want to buy and try the NeoCube challenge?

Honestly, I thought this was going to be the silliest toy of the year, but it I spoke to soon.  The more I saw this toy/puzzle as top gift in several magazines and websites, I had to try it out.  When the NeoCube finally arrived, I instantly smooshed it-BIG MISTAKE!  My next goal was to restore it to its former cube shape and that was a battle all on its own.  The creations are endless and the NeoCube is pretty challenging!  The videos online make it look easy, but when you get that bad boy in your fingertips-good luck.

I read some bad reviews regarding the packaging.  I am assuming the former packaging was some random envelope with the balls stuck to a piece of paper.  When I got mine, the packaging was a nice little box so I am assuming they revamped it to make it more presentable for epic gift giving 2009.

Why this gift is so great for for fangirls? It gives us a time out out of our daily lives of massive gaming, anime costume creating or super sci fi marathons!  It also stimulates the brain sac and gives you an outlet for creativity!  The price isnt so bad either, it fits the specs for a secret santa or a gift you can give a friend.  Hope you get one this year!!  If you dont, fangirlatic will throw a contest just for you so you can have one too!

I read about  NeoCube a few weeks ago and have been mesmerized by it ever since. It’s a toy consisting of 216 little magnetic balls, a silver mass you can squeeze or draw into a string or arrange into stars, a cube, a tube, pretty much anything.

With the snuggie craze behind us, I wonder if the NeoCube is next.

Sunday nights get me down. The weekend is over and it is dark outside and I am kind of sad about it. How can I remedy this? Two things seem to help:

1. Launder the bed linens. Lame? Maybe. But I am a huge fan of a soft fresh-scented set of clean sheets and blankets on my bed. It is a really simple thing, but seems to make Sunday night a little better, and starts the week off right.
2. Organize the photos. If the weekend went well, there are usually many photos that tell that story. I am behind a couple days on uploading the happiness photos, and they really added up. Especially since it was above 50 degrees here for 2 days in a row.

I haven’t posted since last Thursday, so here is Friday:

Cauliflower obsession continues. This was my lunch from Tuscany. Delicious. I urge Jo to give Cauli a chance.

Alex hosted another happy hour in the corner office. Fizzgig came, and brought pretzels to pass. He is clearly excited.

Happy hour continued with more coworkers off-site. Blonde curls were in abundance.

Saturday brought the sun. Porp laid in it of course. Schween was no more than a foot to her right.

I don't really want to talk about this.

Weird bush that now lives in the front yard instead of the backyard. Transplanted during construciton of the roofdeck garage I assume.

One of the happiest things I have seen in months.

Winnemac Park. This will be lush in a couple months. I didn't know it existed until today because I had never crossed the train tracks. Dumb.

Prairie things.

More dead prairie stuff. I took pictures until our table was ready at Over Easy on Damen.

Very popular. Not a lot of seating, so the wait was long. We didn't mind hanging out in the park across the street though.

Officially the best taters I have had for breakfast.

I don't remember what he had, but I remember tasting it and being envious. And beans were involved. <3

Who doesn't love egg-bead curtains, tin ceilings, brick walls and crown molding?

After breakfast I decided to take a nap in the sun on the porch with the cats. Face-down. Woke up with nap face and the need for wine and flowers. Picked up some dried mango slices as well.

Meet Lidia. She is new. She eats jelly beans and wards off evil winter spirits.

Now I am going to sleep in my freshly-cleaned sheets. Goodnight.

You know what? This week has been a little stressful. But this new toy I got is amazingly good at relieving some of that stress, or at least distracting me enough to forget about the stress…for 2–4 hours.

It’s a Neocube. The mailman delivered it to me yesterday. Since the other package that I am tracking—20lbs(!?!?!) of spice jars—is travelling to me via Pony Express, this was a good tide-me-over delivery. The Neocube is not really a cube at all. It is just a bunch of super strong magnet balls. This is a perfect example of a picture not doing any justice to the subject. You have to play with it. You are supposed to make it into a cube, but I have yet to make that happen. My fingers are literally raw from playing with this thing. You have to get it. (Thanks to Dan for the recommending this thing.)

Andrea and Casey and I played with it in the lobby of our building after work for a ridiculously long time. It is very addictive and we looked like certified nutcases, but who really cares. Who needs happy hour when you have…216 super strong magnet balls?

Blur of excitement.

I almost went to go play with it when I woke up at 4am, having realized that I spent the last two days working on 40 die-lines and renderings in the wrong font.

Kennt ihr den Gedanken: “Fuck! Warum bin ich nicht drauf gekommen?!”. Genau das hab ich mir bei diesem einmaligen Gadget gedacht. Es ist der ultimative Langeweile-Killer!

Howdy folks, I thought it’s about time to throw up a quick update post so those of you who give a shit will know whats going on here, and why my blog updates have been fewer and further between.

First off, its summer.  Having fun in the nice weather is obviously a higher priority for me than sitting in front of my computer.  If you are one of the people waiting for me to start posting shit almost every day again, I recommend turning off your computer and go outside as well.  And get a girlfriend too - it worked for me!

Also, I have some exciting news…  I finally have my NeoCube! So my spare time and idle hands are now usually busy rearranging 216 tiny magnetic spheres into tons of trippy patterns.  And everywhere I go with it, people are incapable of seeing me play around without asking a million questions.  The best one I got so far was “Did you invent that?”  … Ha ha, I wish!  Anyway, I happily been showing it off to anyone who is interested, and I’m certain I’ve helped sell a few.  (You are welcome, Chris.)

So now, as I’ve trolled youtube and the rest of the internets, I’ve come to the realization that there is no good instructional content about the NeoCube on-line.  And all the folks who are posting the videos happen to suck with mith magnets.  I’ve managed to come up with tons of way more interesting patterns and shapes all on my own, just by messing around.  That’s led me to the conclusion that I should be the one posting NeoCube how-to and tips and tricks…  people tell me I’m a good teacher.  With that said, my new web project now is going to be a massively detailed and in depth NeoCube tips & tricks page, hosted right here on PooBlog.  All I need to do is to start filming demo vids…   For now here are some quick & dirty cell phone pics I snapped while bored on the ferry.

Para quem não sabe cubo de rubik, é aquele com varias cores para você alinhar, conseguindo no final um cubo com apenas uma cor em cada lado. Pois bem, para quem não achava graça ao jogo, por preguiça mental ou simplesmente porque gosta de passar o tempo, sem fazer algo de relativa utilidade, chegou o neocube. Ele é muito mais simples, porque com ele não há resposta correta, ele é formado por 216 esferas que se conectam para formar um cubo e muitas outras formas, algumas delas interessantes…

No sé vosotros, pero una de mis mayores manías es tener siempre algo en las manos, lo que sea, un lápiz, un papel, una cuerda…La cuestión es mantener a mis manos entretenidas con cualquier cosa, porque sino me pongo nerviosa y no sé dónde meterlas.
