Then, it struck us. We should totally bake neon rainbow cupcakes.

She headed over and we went to Meijer post haste. About $75 worth of baking and decorating goodies later, we returned to my house.

The blender broke, but that didn’t stop us. We tag teamed the batter and, eventually, made it our bitch.

We separated out batter into four zip lock bags, which was a lot harder than it sounded. Then, we added neon food coloring and mixed away. After about 5 minutes, we had a zip lock baggie of bright orange, neon green, hot pink, and a depressing grey that was parading as purple.

We snipped a corner off the baggies, and poured into our neon cupcake tins. We had no pattern, but we did have the highest hopes.

It was at this point that we realized the tins were supposed to be filled 2/3 of the way..not 3/3 of the way. We decided to accept the cupcakes for their muffin tops, and plopped them into the oven.

Despite the depressing purple, they smelled fabulous.

Whilst cooling, we began to make sugar cookies. When in Rome…

The began the decorating portion. Or as I like to call it, the “girlification” of the cupcakes.

Seriously, I have never seen a girlier batch of baked goods.

Truth? These will probably go bad before I can eat them all, even though Aviator and I divided them evenly… So. Come help me eat these tastey neon treats!

Oh, and in case you can’t tell, we are born to bake. Stay tuned for information on our sweet, new bakery endeavor. New side project!

“Neon Food Coloring is FUN!”

Didn’t know what to do for my photo today. I was staring at my bedroom floor where lie empty water bottles that didn’t make it to the recycle. I was playing with food coloring yesterday so that hit in my mind and here we are. Its not exactly what I wanted but time was running out and Im super tired.
Speedlite 580EXII was lit under and up behind the water bottles against a white foam board. Another white foam board is under it with a piece of plexiglass.
