Needing to stoke my fire, I just re-read Oprah’s article entitled “What I know for Sure” on the last page of the Jan 2011 “O” magazine.  In this article Oprah provided an excerpt  from Mark Nepo’s Book of Awakening:  Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have.  In it there is a part that states…”If you feel energy and excitement and a sense that life is happening for the first time, you are probably near your God-given nature.  Joy in what we do is not an added feature; it is a sign of deep health”   Ooowee… As of right now y’all don’t know much about me but let me tell you this!!  I was raised between to holy-spirit, shouting, pentecostal churches… Church of God in Christ  &  Church of God by Faith….. and that quote right there!  Lawd!  Got me shouting 4:00 AM in the morning!  LOL…  For those that don’t understand, I will explain later.  For those that do… Gloorrry Hallelujah!  

In this same passage (yeah… she preaching to me y’all) Oprah goes on to say… “There is no greater gift you can give or receive than to honor your calling.  It’s why you were born.  And how you become most truly alive“    This is something that I know for sure too…  I’ve known it for a very long time.  But I didn’t know how to harness it.  I still don’t… but what I do know is that right now I feel that energy, excitement and sense of life happening for the first time that Nepo mentioned and even more importantly, it has been confirmed in spirit that I am on the right track. Today, 01.01.11, I launched my online publication.  I still have to work out a few technical issues … but I am up and running.  It is nice too! Folks are going to be trying to figure out who we are and where we came from real soon!  I’ll give you the name of the pub a little later this week.  I don’t want you to see it until its right … I should be good by Wed, Jan 5th.  Just in time for the start of the 112th Congress and the second half of My President’s first term.  This is my space… this is my pub… but it is just a start!

As part of public sector savings being identified within the North-East over the next five years as a result of the Budget, a plan has been agreed by the region’s 12 councils and four fire services
  for a new collaborative approach to awarding public contracts.

Built on the platform of the current North Eastern Purchasing Organisation (Nepo), a new group will be established to provide the potential for local businesses to win larger contracts as individual authorities’ needs are combined, ensuring greater value for money and bigger savings.

Research has revealed that the value of collaborative contracts could rise from £177m to more than £500m with the strategy.

The strategy, which will be phased in before April 2012, will also ensure arrangements are in place to help local businesses better compete for public-sector contracts within and outside the
  North-East.

The move comes in support of the Buy North-East campaign, run by The Northern Echo with the North-East Chamber of Commerce (NECC), which calls for more public sector work to be awarded locally.

Statistics from the chamber show the regional economy would grow by £1.35bn, and that an extra 6,000 direct jobs would be created, if the public sector spent an additional one per cent each year until 2016 contracting services from the North-East rather than outside the region.

Ross Smith, head of policy and research at the NECC, said: “Until now, when councils in the North-East have procured goods and services collectively, there has been quite an unsophisticated bulk-buying approach.

“This is now hopefully going to create much more of a strategic approach, which will see huge benefits for the regional economy.”

The plan was jointly developed by the North-East Improvement and Efficiency Partnership and Nepo.

Councillor Paul Watson, chairman of the Association of North-East Councils, said: “We pledge to drive forward a programme of procurement reform, including improving standardisation across all 12 local authorities to make it easier for business to access procurement opportunities and, wherever possible, to align public sector procurement spending with local job creation.

“This forms part of a package of measures being led by the 12 councils in the North- East aimed at supporting North-East businesses out of recession and into recovery.”

Newcastle City Council chief executive Barry Rowland, who leads the Regional Collaborative Procurement Programme, said: “This approach to public sector collaboration on spending will achieve new efficiencies at a time when value for money has never been more important.

“The public sector’s closer working relationship with suppliers will help them become better equipped to bid for contracts, making them more competitive locally, nationally and internationally.

“This will generate new business, jobs and stimulate the region’s economy.”

This Saturday, June 5, Seattle artist Klara Glosova will be opening her Beacon Hill house for the third installment of NEPO, her ongoing series of multimeda art parties.  (Jen Graves profiled NEPO on the Slog back in March, and Joey Veltkamp recently previewed NEPO 3 on Best Of.)

NEPO 3 will be special for a number of reasons, one being a performative light and sound installation by my partner/bandmate David Golightly and myself in which we will transform Klara’s child’s bedroom into a drone chamber imbued with the raw material of creation.

The assertion of a dependent relationship between the utterance of sound and the creation of the cosmos may be found in many of the world’s spiritual and philosophical traditions.  Interestingly, this concept is echoed in String Theory, the branch of theoretical physics aimed at reconciling the paradox of quantum mechanics and general relativity.

With our Drone Chamber for NEPO 3, David and I aim to use the properties of our respective instruments of synthesizer and human voice to create a vibrationally activated environment in which subtle modulations of sound drastically transform the physical qualities of the room.  This performance marks the beginning of what I hope will become a regular series of site-specific performative meditations on the generative properties of sound.  Drone Chamber builds on the series of Subterranean Rituals we have conducted with our band Midday Veil, which utilize a combination of trance-inducing techniques and musical improvisation to probe similar territory.

NEPO 3 will take place from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. this Saturday, June 5 at 1723 S Lander Street in Seattle.  The last NEPO party was a blast, and I can’t envision this one being any less spectacular.  I hope you can come check it out!

Now gONNA gET gOT is led by the man who calls himself by that very name, (also Trip G, Trip Jeezy and simply… G and formerly Drugorious in the years past in The O). This man has the illest (damn right I said illest!!) rhymes you’ve every heard come from a white guy without trying to sound black (you know bling, bling nigga, nigga, nigga). And with an actual band behind him (Most recently comprised of Ry Pilla on Drums, Davey P on bass and Suga Ray Chambers, DJ and backing vocals) he mixes a punk vibe with an upbeat style and harmony and lyrics so goddamn descriptive, catchy and clever, it’s almost as if you’re reading a book about the guy. A book filled with anecdotes ranging from fucking a fat bitch in a bathroom to dealing with his personal pains of fighting for success.

Through his past with the band The O to his career now with gONNA gET gOT, G has been rattled with disappointment and pain that, unlike most people these days, he uses only to fire up his passion to lay down another track. (In this past month alone, right before heading off on the Escape The Wintour with Screaming Mechanical Brain and Shiragirl the relationship between band members crashed causing them to cancel all of their planned shows and tearing them apart as a band altogether. But in G’s own words, “For those who have followed my “career” trajectory, from the O through gONNA gET gOT, you know there is no reason to worry that this bump in the road will keep ol’ Trip Jeezy down. gONNA gET gOT will be back in effect sooner than you think.”)

Now finding gONNA gET gOT can only lead back to one other band… The O. A band that still is hard to find, but not forgotten in the least (maybe cus it’s just not easy to Google a band with a name like that — it’s like looking up that band “!!!”) Going back to the late 90′s to the early 2000′ s The O was blasting ears over in England then back to their hometown in NYC.

Now i have a little history lesson here for you, seeing as how Wikipedia rejects The O’s existence (they reject mine as well) i feel like telling it …(there’s a lot more to this story then what i’m about to tell but… i don’t know it …)

Now The O was most importantly composed of Drugorious (guitar and vocals), nEPo (Bass and Vocals), and the Burnman (Drums), and other members have come and gone along the way. With Drugorious and nEPo both singers, the band had two varied sounds. One side (Drugorious’) was a younger version of the GGG of today. The other (nEPo’s) is self described as electroweed pop (Before you ask, a deeper look into nEPo’s sound will come sometime in the future).

Back in about 97′ The O made their way over to the UK after landing a genuine label deal with Polydor Records. The O produced their first full length album Nightmerica. Though G has a low opinion of the album, they released the “critically acclaimed singles” Get Wasted Time, Now, and Xmas At Bob’s. According to nEPo’s own web page, “Get Wasted Time was named single of the week by both BBC Wales and London’s X-FM, and UK music rags such as NME, Melody Maker and Kerrang heaped seemingly endless praise on the band.” Most unfortunately despite their growing success, Seagrams (yeah the Ginger ale and Gin company) bought out Polydor, and got rid of all the label reps and support for The O. After being apparently thrown out of their home by a brick wielding landlord, The O returned to Brooklyn. During that time they teamed up with Mindless Self Indulgence and Producer James Galus, who… well..I guess things didnt work out there. Regardless, they produced two more albums, Mutant Home Demos with the hits “Anal Thermometer,” and “Ernie’s Dead,” and later released “Junk In the Trunk”.

Though now they have called it quits, you can still buy all three albums from the band here at cdbaby, also available is The O: Side A a Dvd Packed full of music videos, live shows, and interviews.

And yes.. nEPo is still out there with his new studio working on tracks for you to smoke up and freak out to. Just give him a year or so … ha so Fuck you Wikipedia there’s the story you won’t print..(well part of it) and Are they really that hard to find on the Internet?.. not if you look.. here’s some more links..(yeah I know I’m using some Wikipedia links .. only to prove them stupider)
