Avevo letto un articolo su questa scoperta scientifica circa un anno fa. A quel tempo il progetto era ancora all’inizio. Pochi giorni fa questa scoperta si è rifatta viva grazie ai primi risultati positivi ottenuti dopo aver installato il piccolo meccanismo sull’occhio di Peter Lane.

In pratica si tratta di una piccola camera posizionata su un supporto simile a quello degli occhiali. Questa camera trasmette informazioni a un piccolo processore posizionato sulla cintura del paziente (supporto). Qui le informazioni vengono rielaborate e trasmesse a un ricevitore elettronico sottilissimo posizionato sulla retina del paziente. Questo piccolo meccanismo sostituisce in un certo senso la funzione della retina stimolando attraverso impulsi elettrici il nervo ottico.

E’ bello vedere che almeno alcune scoperte scientifiche non finiscono in un cassettino dimenticate dal mondo. I primi risultati sembrano incoraggianti… speriamo che la ricerca in questo campo continui ad andare avanti.

comecei a fazer abdominais por recomendação médica. meu dedão do pé direito adormeceu há dias e até agora eu não sei bem o que aconteceu. pode ser que ele só tenha tirado umas férias de mim, se desligado, sei lá, mas também é possível que eu tenha um pinçamento (não me pergunte) no nervo whatever blábláblá whyskas sachè. enfim. como partimos do nada (um dedão insensível, na verdade) ao lugar nenhum, uma das sugestões foi cair de boca nas abdominais pra fortalecer os músculos do lombo e TALVEZ parar de pressionar o tal do nervo. eu sou um enigma da medicina.

(comecei ontem, segunda-feira, dia mundial de início de atividades físicas e dietas em geral. deixei o abdominator (não sei o nome daquele troço) no meio da sala pra tentar não esquecer. bud spencer – o gato obeso – ficou intrigadíssimo)

Tasting Notes: 2009 Fall Releases (plus September ATP), Staff Tasting, 8.13.09

2006 Monte Bello Chardonnay

A pale golden-yello in the glass, fantastic limpidity, and fairly sparse and slow-moving legs … The nose is redolent of caramel and a light woodiness at a slightly chilled temperature, and as it moves towards room temperature it begins to express a complex array of fruit notes, with lychee, pineapple, and honeydew melon leading the way. A constrained amount of minerality shows through as well, with little influence from any yeast aromas. The first thing I notice is the wildly buoyant acidity, balanced against a surprisingly supple viscosity. Pear and green apple notes are front and center, with a faint trace of (probably imaginary!) residual malic acid. During the movement from mid-palate to finish, notes of meringue (cream of tartar) start to emerge, making for a pleasantly structured close.

2006 Nervo

Shows beautiful mid-tone plum/ruby in the bowl, with a gorgeous pink & raspberry limn, lightly tinged with a pale orange; quick, thin legs running down the sides … Fantastically fascinating nose, with a whole menagerie of aromatic offerings: loads of black pepper, cocoa, clove, cinnamon, baked orange/marmalade, sandalwood, a slight tarriness, and hints of both cola syrup and berry syrup … Fairly firm tannins on the palate, but good acidity as well … a certain spiciness definitely present, though the herbal components are far more dominant. Structurally, the tannin/acid balance is near perfect, but the herb &spice/fruit balance is currently tipping to the former. Not a particularly fruit-forward offering, but perfect for those who prefer their zins with a hearty offering of herbs and spices.

2007 Lytton Springs

Elegance. Subtlety. Suppleness. Grace. These are the terms that come to mind in trying to capture the sophistication and near-shyness of this otherworldly uber-balanced wine. Everything about this wine is restrained, and beautiful. The aromatics are loaded with mixed harvest berry notes, as is the palate, and both are richly intertwined with a complex quilt of lilac, lavender, and violet. A secondary tier of higher-tone red fruit makes itself felt in the mid-palate, bringing in strains of strawberry and cherry, and the finish expresses some nicely chalky, and very-slow moving tannins. Again, elegance, subtlety, suppleness, and grace. Consummately approachable already.

2007 Pagani Ranch

Beautiful magenta tones dominate the color spectrum in the bowl, with some dark plum in the very belly, and some beautiful, pale, bright garnet highlights at the limn. As is seemingly always the case with wines from the Pagani Ranch, the aromatics are a veritable potpourri of, well, potpourri! Add to that strains of cinnamon, strawberry, and the sweet spices of hookah tobacco, and you’ve got a Pagani bouquet. The palate springs a trap full of rich, sweet fruits, almost on the edge of showing some candied character, though this is all firmly counterbalanced by some strident acidity. Certainly still in development, but this wine has both the structure and the fruit to emerge into yet another fascinating contribution to the Pagani canon.

2007 York Creek

It was put forth, during the tasting, that this wine is what the color blue tastes like. I most certainly agree! Blue fruit, blue highlights, blue halo, blue, blue, blue. Which is clearly the influence of the full 22% petit sirah on this wine, a welcome addition, at least to our collective palates, all being petit sirah fans, to say the least. This is a dark, rich, complex wine; burnt blueberry pie sugar, beurre noir, blueberry preserves, sweet black licorice, asphalt, sweet moist pipe tobacco, cigar box, I could go on and on and on, but I imagine you’re getting the picture. If you’re a fan of zinfandel as darkened and molded by petite sirah, this is for you.

2006 Monte Bello

I’ll come right out and say it; I love this wine. I bought in hard on the futures for this vintage, if that’s any kind of worthwhile endorsement. And tasting it again today, I’m happy I did so. I believe this is going to be a Monte Bello for the ages, one of the greats. Of course it’s impossibly young now; the colors are almost impenetrably dark, the limn barely exists yet, the viscosity is intensely adhesive, etc. Interestingly though, the nose is already showing some beautiful florality (lilac and lavender in particular), married to some beautiful herbaceousness. The palate experience is driven primarily by clove, anise, fennel, and hazelnut, with a shake of cocoa powder and vanilla extract, and the finish, while admittedly still  youthfully short at this point, already shows great balance. Can’t wait for the development trajectory of this vintage to play out over some time …

Il pilota della Ferrari Felipe Massa, ferito sabato scorso in un incidente nelle prove ufficiali del Gp d’Ungheria, ha subito dei lievi danni al nervo ottico dell’occhio sinistro. Bisognerà aspettare che sia in grado di aprire gli occhi completamente e di dire se avverte fastidi e di quale tipo.

Lo ha detto ai giornalisti il professor Robert Veres, uno dei medici che hanno partecipato all’operazione all’ospedale Aek di Budapest sul pilota brasiliano. Insomma, prima di valutare se ci sono danni dovranno essere fatti ulteriori accertamenti. «Ha subito certamente dei danni all’occhio ma non ne conosciamo ancora la misura», ha detto Verres. Massa è anche afflitto da un’edema cerebrale che è però in via di riassorbimento.

Il medico ha anche precisato di non poter sciogliere le riserve sulla ripresa della carriera agonistica del pilota brasiliano: «Non possiamo dire se potrà tornare alle corse – ha detto Veres – Al momento è troppo presto per rispondere».

«Siamo e dobbiamo essere ottimisti per la ripresa prima di tutto dell’uomo Felipe» aveva detto in precedenza il presidente della Ferrari, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, nel corso di una conferenza stampa tenutasi a Budapest per fare il punto sul quadro clinico di Felipe Massa. «È stato un incidente incredibile – ha aggiunto il numero uno di Maranello – ma nella sfortuna ha avuto la fortuna di essere stato colpito in una zona che è come uno scudo per il cervello».

There are some very, very talented people out there in the creative world. But then there are those few people that are just at another level. It’s both inspirational and humbling at the same time. Nando Costa of nervo.tv was here last night in NYC. Himself, along with some reps from Red Giant Software, flew all the way from Portland, OR to give some insight into his genius mind. It wasn’t the typical lecture of “we green screened this, added some particles and finished it with a logo animation”. It was more on the level of “the birds are animated using processing technology with full control over behaviors like collision, gravity, force all while maintaining a fluid connection with each line.” That’s about the part our jaws dropped to the floor. If you are wondering, I’m specifically talking about this TV spot for Fox Movies:

No, that’s not live footage. A PNG sequence of a 3D modeled bird was brought into a processing application. From there, Nando and his team were able to fully control their movement and flow that provided a real-time, natural, organic animation that would’ve taken 10x as long to replicate using a 3D app for instance. The show package consisted of 15+ spots so make sure you watch all of them. This was one of about five projects he talked about in depth and with some great behind the scenes info. His Timex spot was another favorite of mine. A workflow of XSI and After Effects with 500+ layers and expression powered animation comprised that spot. Phew. It’s also all about multi-pass(!), something I’m learning is a time saver and very important in having a polished look.

I should also mention that he doesn’t do this entirely on his own. His small team (7 people?) also deserve the proper respect as well. Can’t wait to see the future work that comes out of that studio.

Заказчик, компания Microsift, предоставил студии Nervo большую свободу действий в создании роликов, чем те  не применули воспользоваться экспериментируя со стилями анимации, музыкой и саунд-эффектами, соединив в несколько визуальных рядов абстрактных ассоциаций с музыкой.

Tenho andado ausente,  já que a dor constante que tenho nos dedos da mão direita e no pulso tornam a corriqueira atividade de escrever e utilizar o mouse quase numa epopeia (sem acento, segundo a nova e ridícula rega da gramática).

Descobri que não se trata de uma simples tendinte, mas que tenho uma tal de síndrome de Guyon. Algo meio incomum (comigo não poderia ser algo normal ou comum mesmo),  provavelmente um cisto que fecha o canal por onde passa o nervo ulnar, causando compressão do ditocujo e gerando toda essa dor e amortecimento dos meus dedinhos….

Pra completar, terei que fazer uma ressonância magnética para identificar aonde está o maldito cisto e depois uma cirurgiazinha para removê-lo. Gostoso, né? Detalhe, tenho claustrofobia e só de pensar em ficar meia hora dentro da máquina de ressonância já me dá um desespero!

Pelo menos, tenho uma semana até lá para ir me acostumando com a ideia….ehehe

O síndrome do túnel carpal (também conhecido como “síndrome do túnel cárpico” ou “síndrome do canal cárpico”) é uma doença que ocorre quando o nervo que passa na região do punho (nervo mediano) fica submetido a compressão (por exemplo clicks constantes num mouse não ergonómico), cujo sintoma mais típico é a dormência em algumas zonas das mãos, principalmente nas extremidades dos dedos indicador, médio e anular.
