I spent the evening (in between going to the gym) moving the various StreamInsight projects I had to the November CTP Refresh. This latest CTP definately has a cleaner API Unfortunately my strategy pricer code fails with a rather unhelpful error:

The Blackwater operatives also assist in gathering intelligence and help run a secret US military drone bombing campaign that runs parallel to the well-documented CIA predator strikes, according to a well-placed source within the US military intelligence apparatus.

The source, who has worked on covert US military programs for years, including in Afghanistan and Pakistan, has direct knowledge of Blackwater's involvement. He spoke to The Nation on condition of anonymity because the program is classified. The source said that the program is so “compartmentalized” that senior figures within the Obama administration and the US military chain of command may not be aware of its existence.

(RSF/IFEX) – Reporters Without Borders hails the lifting of the last restrictions on the use of the Kurdish language by the Turkish news media. “This is an important and symbolically-charged step but its impact will be very limited as long as the media cannot tackle Kurdish issues without risking prosecution,” the press freedom organisation said.

The government gazette published a directive on 13 November 2009 indefinitely lifting all remaining restrictions on the broadcast media's use of minority languages. Use of Kurdish had been allowed in the print media and the national public TV station TRT 6 since January 2004, but privately-owned radio stations were limited to five hours of Kurdish programming a week while privately-owned TV stations were limited to four hours.

• New extensibility API through user-defined aggregates and operators
• Declarative specification of CTIs through AdvanceTimeSettings
• More temporal windows in LINQ (and other LINQ improvements)
• Improved error messages and exception handling
• Many debugger tool improvements
• New samples – I think the PatternDetector is new, but not 100% sure

Looks like EventTypeAttribute has disappeared, coupled with changes to QueryBinder and CreateEventType()

I was configuring a site for ASP.Net membership today, I got as far populating the database with the various tables (Using aspnet_regsql.exe), and then added the web.config elements – The connection string and membership provider.

All seemed well and good. I ran the web site configuration tool (Website > Asp.Net configuration from Visual Studio 2008). I then clicked ‘Create or Manage Roles’. I got the following error message:

Unable to connect to SQL Server database

Why? By default, Asp.Net membership connects to a local SQL Express database for its roles, users, profiles etc, under a connection string name of ‘LocalSqlServer’. So, what we need to do is:

a) Remove the connection string from memory

b) Replace it, with one of the same name but with a connection string that talks to our database

Fortunatley, this is easily done within web.config as follows:

I was experiencing an issue where after publishing a workflow to the workflow server the page that would come up where your supposed to see your webform or project was showing a “Page cannot be displayed” error. A quick MySupport incident and a phone call from SYMC support found the issue that .NET 3.5 SP1 was installed.

The solution is to uninstall 3.5 SP1, 2.0, and 1.1. I then rebooted and reinstalled in reverse order up to 3.5 WITHOUT 3.5 SP1. After double checking the associations in ‘default website’ in IIS Manager and an iisreset I was good to go.

Na mojej kochanej PWR realizowałem prostą implementację grafu z wyszukiwaniem najkrótszych ścieżek w grafie. Trochę się zirytowałem gdy mój cudowny kod chodził 20 razy wolniej ;] od kodu kolegi. Niestety moja chorobliwa ambicja nie odpuściła i postanowiłem zoptymalizować kod …..

Zabawę zacząłem z programikiem dotTrace który jest świetnym profilerem badającym wydajność programów. Fajną sprawą jest wyświetlanie ilości wywołań poszczególnych metod i czas ich trwania. Dzięki temu z łatwością możemy wydzielić bloki kodu w których najprawdopodobniej powinniśmy optymalizować. Zgodnie z zasadą 20/80 zmiana 20% najbardziej czasochłonnych linii kodu da 80% wzrost wydajności.

Po analizie i paru zmianach okazało się że źle przeprowadzałem testy. Zamiast ciągle operować na tym samym elemencie za każdym razem tworzyłem nową instancję klasy odpowiedzialnej za algorytm. Przy 1 Milionie wywołań algorytmu dawało to długi czas działania aplikacji po lekkiej modyfikacji czas wykonania spadł z 60 s do 320ms.

Conclusion:
Pamiętajmy o odpowiednim konstruowaniu testów

Ciekawy jest także fakt że tak naprawdę czas wykonania mojego programu zajmuje tylko 56% czasu działania aplikacji. 44% pożerają procedury .netowe

We have new versions of all browsers, operating systems and just about everything else. Unfortunately we are in more mess than ever. Firefox(Netscape) has gained alot of ground but the real changes are the 3G mobile devices like iPhones. They mostly have their own version of some browser that simulates another browser ;( and they can rotate the screen. Screen sizes have gone crazy. Anything from 120X120px past 4120×3096px and new wide screens are everywhere. Even Mac’s are becoming more popular(about time).

If you want to talk about development platforms that is a whole other discussion.

We still have a lot of difficulties in web development but at least some of the issues have been
resolved on the PC client front. We will never have a 100% standard. This is
about as close as it gets. Of course other interfaces like WAP create a whole
new temporary issue(until 3G round 2).

Ya, right. Anyone that thinks that is dreaming. If you want to create an absolute minimal
page then it should work on any browser, but as soon as you want to do anything
cool you are into specific browser issues. It is now to a point that for a developer you
have to consider three browsers(Netscape^®, Microsoft^®, others)
with Microsoft^® and Netscape^® each having several versions that
all support different functions. Then you have to think about the different operating
systems like MAC, OS/2, Unix and Microsoft^® Windows V***, again each with
their own supported functions for each browser.

What are the users settings? Do they have JavaScript enabled? What if they specify their
own fonts, background or other options?

After all that you still have to worry about screen resolution and browser window size.

My old site at one time had three views(one for each browser). In each view there was code
required to handle different operating systems and versions of each browser. Without this
I couldn’t show many functions available to the specific browser. I have now enhanced this
site to demonstrate IE version 4.

As for JAVA? Most companies making development tools(Symantec^®, Microsoft^®,
etc.) have added functions only available on a specific platform. Unfortunately without
these added functions JAVA is limited to the “sandbox”.

So what was that about standard platform????? Ya right.

Humans aren’t the only ones susceptible to swine flu. Cats, poultry and pigs can also catch the disease. Dogs, however, seem to be immune so far.

The Finnish Food Safety Authority (Evira) says animal owners should contact a veterinarian if they suspect an animal may have caught the bug. Evira has already examined a few virus samples taken from cats and pigs, but so far, no samples have tested positive for swine flu.

Evira has drawn up guidelines on how to protect pigs and poultry from the bug. The organisation is also calling on veterinarians to send in virus samples if an animal is suspected to have fallen ill with the flu.

”There have been cases of humans getting sick after contact with pigs in Norway and Ireland. Poultry have better protection, but turkeys have contracted the disease in Canada and Chile,” says Liisa Kaartinen, the head of the Veterinary Virology Research Unit at Evira.

A few months back, I started implementing our last WPF product. As MVVM was being hype, our major application design pattern was MVVM, Model-View-ViewModel. I guess it started from one article from MSDN magazine. Some people said that was the major pattern used to developed Microsoft Blend. I am not sure how true that is, but it catches WPF developer attention too much. But it’s so true that is still amateur pattern. It gave same amount of trouble to me, like I started implementing AJAX by reading one article from MSDN too, by using XMLHttpRequest object with javascript. It’s effective and cool. But it’s really hard to maintain for real big functional implementation, while I were trying to catch up with my manager’s milestones.

Developer are comparing the power between MVC and MVVM, even including MVP. Writing articles about which one is better. Arguing what is right and what are wrong. Unfortunately, most of developers chose MVVM because it’s more pairing with WPF.

Well, to get to the point, MVVM is good. It’s really helpful. But, keep in mind that it’s not the only pattern you use in your application. You got to choose and use any pattern you need to solve your problem wisely, from tons of crazy-coder-proof patterns out there. Put together and make your puzzle beautiful.

Here, try using MVVM + MVC on your application, you will see another beauty of front-end application development. Perhaps, you can even give a name like MVCVM (Model-View-Controller-ViewModel).

You no doubt often find yourself gathering QueryString values, and writing code dependent upon the values found.

You might write:

if (Request.QueryString["foo"] == 1)
 {
     // Do something
 }

Fine, but this will fail if ‘foo’ is not a valid entry found in the QueryString. You’ll get a null reference exception.

So how ahout this:

if (Request.QueryString["foo"] != null)
 {
     if (Request.QueryString["foo"] == 1)
     {
         // Do something
     }
 }

Yup, that’ll work, but its not exactly very elegant code!

Heres another way…

if (context.Request.QueryString["foo"] != null && context.Request.QueryString["foo"] == 1)
 {
     // Do something
 }

The key to this is the fact that we use ‘&&’ (Double ampersand) instead of a single ‘&’ for the comparison operator. The double & operator means the second (right hand side) test is only evaluated if the first (left hand side) test evaluates to true, so our null check happens first, if this is Ok the check for the value we are looking for happens. Assuming this is a match, the code inside our if block will run.

On the flipside of this, using a single ‘&’ means both tests are evaludated – If either or both result in false, the result is – False, otherwise, the result is true.

There is another option, which kind of negates the need for my demo of the double ‘&’ operator, and to be honest this is the best way

• Declare your object at the level you need (e.g. Class, Method)
• Initialise your object at the earliest opportunity, at the same point carrying out the null check, and probably substituting with value, depending on the logic of your application. You may also want to introduce some logic and security here by checking the value is within and expected ranges and of the expected type
• Use the object, knowing it already has a sensible value

สำหรับผู้ใช้ ASP.Net ในการพัฒนาเว็บไซต์ หนึ่งในระบบ Manage บัญชีผู้ใช้ที่ใช้กันอย่างแพร่หลาย(?) ระบบหนึ่งก็คือ ASP.Net Membership

แล้วการใช้ตัว ASP.Net Membership Provider นี่ก็ต้องมีการเข้าไปแก้ไฟล์อย่าง Machine.config เพื่อนำมาใช้กับ Web.config บ้างเป็นระยะๆ

อนึ่ง… Machine.config จะเก็บค่าปรับตั้งอย่างละเอียดของระบบ ซึ่งเป็นในลักษณะ Default Environmen ซึ่งถ้าผู้ใช้ต้องการปรับใช้ให้เหมาะกับตัวเองก็สามารถ “ก๊อปปี้” tag เหล่านั้นมาไว้ใน Web.config เพื่อ override ค่า Default ได้จ๊ะ..

แล้วทีนี้ สมมติว่าเผลอมือบอนไปแก้มันซะผิดเพี้ยน จนไม่สามารถรันได้เลย จะทำไงดี?

วิธีแรกแรก Re- Install ตัว .Net Framework 2.0 ลงไป

วิธีนี้เขาว่ากันว่าใช้งานได้ผล
…แต่ใช้กับ Vista/7 ไม่ได้ เพราะมัน Built-in มา จะ Reinstall หรือ Remove ไม่ได้

วิธีที่สอง เรียกไฟล์ .default

ในเมื่อ Machine.config พัง ก็เรียก Machine.config.default แทนขึ้นมา

วิธีนี้พอจะใช้ได้ผล ในกรณีที่กำหนดค่าผิดเพี้ยนไปก็สามารถเปิดไฟล์ Machine.config.default ขึ้นมาได้ ซึ่งไฟล์นี้ก็อยู่รวมกัน Machine.config นั้นแหละ

Default Path ของไฟล์ดังกล่าวอยู่ที่
“C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG”

หรือ

“%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG”
