A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge is the second film in the Nightmare on Elm Street series of slasher films. It was released in 1985 by New Line Cinema. The film was directed by Jack Sholder.

Tagline: The first name in terror returns…

Trivia:

Special-effects man Rick Lazzarini created a “demonic parakeet” puppet for the scene in which the Walsh’s pet parakeet flies around and explodes. His puppet was not used because they wanted a regular-looking bird.

This is the only film in the series not to use Charles Bernstein’s original theme, or a variation of it.

In the opening sequence, the bus driver is Robert Englund without the heavy “Freddy Krueger” make-up and his signature clothing.

Cameo: [Robert Shaye] the S&M bartender.

Brad Pitt, John Stamos and Christian Slater all auditioned for the role of Jesse.

The song “Touch Me,” which is being played in Jesse’s room, is an early (and slightly different) version of Cathy Dennis’s #2 hit from the early 1990s.

Nightmare series creator Wes Craven refused to work on this film because he never wanted or intended A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) to become an ongoing franchise (and even wanted the first film to have a happy ending), and also because he didn’t like the idea of Freddy manipulating the protagonist into committing the murders.

The running time for this film is 87 minutes, Freddy appears in just 13 of them.

JoAnn Willette is one of the girls seated in the back of the school bus driven by Freddy at the beginning of the film. She would later go on to star in the ABC sitcom “Just the Ten of Us” (1988), a program which not only featured numerous references to the “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise, but also co-starred Heather Langenkamp (from the first, third, and seventh films) and Brooke Theiss (from the fourth film).

The last film in the original “Nightmare” franchise in which Freddy’s house is the focal point of Freddy’s terror. In the rest of the series, Freddy’s terror revolves generally around Elm Street and the town of Springwood with the house occasionally making an appearance. In the hybrid film, “Freddy vs. Jason”, there was a reference in the film that Lori lived in Freddy’s house but the reference was cut from the theatrical release (but appears in the Deleted Scenes section of the DVD).

Shocker (aka Wes Craven’s Shocker) is a 1989 horror film written and directed by Wes Craven. The relatively low-budget film has since become a cult classic. It starred Mitch Pileggi as the antagonist Horace Pinker. This role gained Mitch fame as Assistant Director Walter Skinner in The X-Files television series.

Tagline: On October 2, at 6:45 AM mass murderer Horace Pinker was put to death. Now, he’s really mad.

Both Wes Craven and Universal had hoped for the film to launch a franchise (Craven had particularly wanted to create a new series since he felt he had not been given due profits from New Line Cinema resulting from the Nightmare on Elm Street series). However, due to the middling commercial performance of the film, no sequel was made.

A special edition DVD was released in 1999.

Buy This Title only $7.99

Trivia:

Shocker was filmed in ten weeks and in a low budget. Craven said that all this savings are in a small team work with talent and low known actors.

According to Wes Craven, the film was severely cut for an R-rating. It took around 13 submissions to the MPAA to receive an “R” instead of an “X”.

In Jonathan’s second dream, he looks up at a street sign and sees the street names Maddalena and Wagner. Marianne Maddalena was a producer of the film, and the actor playing the executioner was Bruce Wagner.

When Jonathan and his father enter the Tavern after the funeral of their family, a news program is playing on the TV in the background and discussing the murders. Someone immediately changes the channel and on comes (briefly) the 1986 concert footage of Alice Cooper’s The Nightmare Returns tour.

One of the bodies that Horace took over (the male “Road Worker” with long black hair) is a former guitarist for Alice Cooper.

One of the bodies that Horace took over (the “Jogger” in the park) is Jonathan Craven, son of director Wes Craven.

The clash of titans, the rumble of heavyweights, thunder of the monsters? During the 1980s and early

The clash of titans, the rumble of heavyweights, thunder of the monsters?

During the 1980s and early 1990s, two undead box-office titans carried along two of the most successful horror film franchises of all time. The first is a child-murderer who was burned alive by the parents of his victims only to rise again to haunt them in their dreams. He is Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). The second is a drowning victim of some negligent camp-counselors who returns from the murky depths to punish the campers of Crystal Lake. He is Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger).

In 1993s “Jason Goes to Hell:The Final Friday”, fans drooled with excitement after they witnessed the clawed hand of Freddy drag down Jason’s hockey mask beneath the earth at the conclusion of the film. This one moment has sparked theory and speculation to if and when the clash of the infamous undead would occur.

After that event we saw a couple more entries in Jason’s series and one more in Freddy’s but no more signs of the final confrontation. Now fourteen years later after that small event, we have the movie that was promised.

In the film that finally finds the horrific titans facing-off, Freddy Krueger decides he has one last master plan on how to once again raise terror and destroy the people of Elm Street. Freddy invades the dreams of serial killer Jason Voorhees and uses Jason’s unstoppable body to slay the victims of Elm Street. Freddy’s master plan doesn’t go smooth as he becomes jealous of Jason’s power and that some Elm Street kids (Monica Keena, Katharine Isabelle and Kelly Rowland) begin fighting back against Jason. Can Freddy control Jason long enough to exact his revenge? If not how will the battle play out? Who will reign supreme?

“Freddy vs. Jason” is full of slasher clichés, ridiculous gore, outrageous stunts, and laughter-induced legacy speeches. But all these elements are what these two horror fiends have been delivering for over 20 years. Believe it or not, it has been 23 years since Jason rose from Crystal Lake in 1980. Did we also forget that New Line Cinema is infamously known as “The House that Freddy Built”? What else could one expect when you bring these two characters together?

Gore fans will love the heavyweight fight that concludes the film. There are a lot of scenes that will make fans cheer as they are brought back to previous entries in each series. There are a lot of things to like in this film for slasher fans.

As for Freddy-purists who cherish “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Wes Craven’s New Nightmare” this seems like a step back for Robert Englund who finished off his horror franchise back in 1994 with “New Nightmare”.

Monica Keena, Katherine Isabelle & Kelly Rowland

That film was a great swansong for Englund and the classic character of Freddy it seems such a shame to bring him back for this brainless camp. Of all the horror characters, Freddy was least likely to be misunderstood. There was no gray area on his character; he was evil to the core. I guess in some ways I am a Freddy purist. He was always my favorite horror heavyweight.

The sad part for me was watching actresses Katharine Isabelle and Monica Keena play such rudimentary roles. They are better actresses than these characters. This isn’t the first horror film for both actresses but the first time where they seem wasted. Does any actress in Hollywood want to be the typical-cliched nude co-ed in a Jason movie?

This film is purely for gore-fans and horror-geeks but for people looking for a great scare it might be wise to wait for “Jeepers Creepers 2” or the remake of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. This is just one Freddy-fans opinion.

2 out of 5

So Says the Soothsayer.

The truth, will find you.

The truth, will find you.

Il putem vedea in rol principal pe binecunoscutul actor de comedie, Jim Carrey – de care am fost foarte surprinsa, dat fiind ca din `90 pana azi in afara de The Cable Guy nu a mai jucat in nici o drama/thriller. Jim Carrey e clasic. )

*laughs *

Pana atunci, vizionare placuta !

Trivia:

The transfer of the alien from DeVries into Jonathan Miller was accomplished by stop-motion photography. During the stops, stage hands would work at stuffing the creature model into the mock head. Actor William Boyett, upon seeing the alien going into “his” mouth, was so disgusted he refused to watch and actually left the room.

Me...and my...shaaah...dow!!! (New Line) Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Andy Serkis, Helen Mirren, El

Me...and my...shaaah...dow!!!

(New Line) Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Andy Serkis, Helen Mirren, Eliza Hope Bennett, Jim Broadbent, Sienna Guillory, Jennifer Connelly, Jamie Foreman, Rafi Gavron, Roger Allam (voice), John Thomson, Steve Speirs, Matt King, Stephen Graham. Directed by Iain Softley.

Few things in our experience are as powerful as the written word. With it, we can inform, entertain, transport, amaze, horrify, shock, save and titillate. Even in this electronic information age, most of us still get our information by reading something, whether on a printed page or on a computer screen. The most glorious thing is that the written word still has the power to fire up our imaginations to the point where the limitless is possible.

However, there is a far more dangerous magic in the written word. Certain people, called silvertongues, can literally bring the pages of a story to life when they read it aloud. The drawback is that when a character from a fictional universe is brought to the real world, a real person must be sent to the fictional universe to balance things out. As you might guess, people with this gift are few and far between, and those that do have it tend to keep it on the down-low if they use it at all.

Expert bookbinder Mo Folchart (Fraser) learned the hard way about the dangers of this gift. Reading aloud a fantasy story called Inkheart, he drew two characters from its pages; Dustfinger (Bettany), an itinerant fire juggler whose heart is in the right place, but whose courage and integrity are lacking, and Capricorn (Serkis), a genuinely menacing villain who cheerfully plans world domination with an urbane smoothness that wouldn’t be out of place in a Bond movie. While Dustfinger desperately wants to return home to his wife (Connelly in a very small role) and kids, Serkis prefers this world, where guns and Silvertongues make evil easier.

What compels Folchart is that his wife Resa (Guillory) was sucked into the pages of Inkheart to replace Capricorn. Now he travels Europe with his precocious daughter Meggie (Bennett) in tow. Meggie is frustrated that she is aware something odd is going on, and is bothered by the nagging feeling that her father knows a lot more than he’s telling her, particularly about her mother’s disappearance. She gets the feeling somebody is chasing him, even as he is searching for something, a specific book.

When Dustfinger catches up with Folchart, the bookbinder is none too pleased to see him. In fact, Folchart runs away with Meggie, barely escaping the grasp of the juggler. Folchart and Meggie head to the home of Great-Aunt Elinor (Mirren). She is abrasive and unfriendly, but once you get past the outward unpleasantness she actually is loyal and loving. Still, she’s unprepared for her sanctuary to be invaded by men with evil intent, and her beloved antique book collection torched.

A desperate Dustfinger has led Capricorn’s men to Folchart, and the bookbinder, his daughter and Great-Aunt Elinor are taken to Capricorn’s castle, where he has a collection of creatures from the pages of fiction – the flying monkeys of “The Wizard of Oz,” the minotaur from Homer’s “The Odyssey,” the Tick-Tock crocodile from “Peter Pan” and the unicorn from the tales of King Arthur. The villain there reveals his plans – for Folchart to bring into this world a truly terrifying monster from the pages of Inkheart – the Shadow.

Director Softley has things like Hackers and K-PAX to his credit, which doesn’t really tell you how he did here. Filming in the beautiful Italian Riviera, as well as the Bourne Woods of Surrey, the cinematography has an otherworldliness that compliments the mood of the novel nicely. While it follows the plot of the Cornelia Funke novel it’s based on nicely, the movie is a bit less grim than its literary counterpart.

Fraser has been a capable action hero ever since his work in The Mummy and is proving to be quite a draw for family films as he showed in Journey to the Center of the Earth. He is less dashing and less heroic than other characters he’s played; his Mortimer Folchart is handicapped by his own guilt, and in trying to be protective of his daughter, causes her more pain than perhaps was necessary. I personally would have liked to see there be more of a rift between them – it’s hard to believe a 12-year-old girl would be too forgiving of a father who kept her in the dark most of her life about what really happened to her mother.

The central character in the book is Meggie, and while she technically is here as well, this isn’t her movie. Bennett is better than average in her performance, but when contending with actors the caliber of Mirren, Broadbent, Bettany, Fraser and Serkis, someone a little more memorable might have been better. She’s supposed to be the focus of the movie but she is clearly out of her depth here, so by default it become’s Mortimer’s story.

My problem is that the writer gives these silvertongues immense power, but they rarely use it logically. Oh, when they’re forced to do it they can and will read things out of the classic stories, but for example when one silvertongue is imprisoned in a crypt with the Jim Broadbent character (who plays the author of Inkheart who is suffering from a massive case of writer’s block), while they are able to write all sorts of things for the silvertongue to read at the movie’s conclusion, they don’t think of writing something simple like “The locked door swung open of it’s own accord and the prisoners stepped out and escaped.” Of course, that would have made too much sense.

While the acting is top-notch, the special effects are nice and the scenery is beautiful, one of the problems I have is that this kind of movie needs a heart, something that will stay with the viewer long after they’ve gone home. Inkheart doesn’t have one. Bettany comes close, but his character is so weak-willed, and uses the excuse “I was written that way” to explain away his awful choices, so it becomes hard to root for him. Fraser is also curiously restrained; I think a little more Rick O’Connell might have served the movie better.

While this was ostensibly marketed for kids (and there were a bunch of them at the showing I attended), I wouldn’t characterize this strictly as a kid’s movie. Yes, the kids are going to enjoy this, but there is a great deal of violence and the Shadow is going to be far too scary for younger children. There is enough here, however, that make this a solid enough family movie that I can recommend without feeling guilty about it.

WHY RENT THIS: Gorgeous scenery. Nice performances from the supporting roles. Nice fantasy action and a truly frightening villain.

WHY RENT SOMETHING ELSE: Lapses in logic. Some characters a bit too weak to really support. Lacks heart.

FAMILY VALUES: The Shadow is a bit much for younger children. There is also some violence, but all in all just fine for most kids.

TRIVIAL PURSUIT: Author Cornelia Funke wrote the part of Mo “Silvertongue” Folchert with Brendan Fraser in mind.

NOTABLE DVD EXTRAS: Actress Eliza Bennett reads a passage from the book that didn’t make it into the movie. Using “Reading Rainbow” style visuals as well as illustrations from the novel gives the sequence some visual kick.

FINAL RATING: 6/10

TOMORROW: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Título original: Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare
Año: 1991
Dirección y guión: Rachel Talalay
Reparto: Robert Englund, Lisa Zane, Yaphet Kotto, Tom Arnold, Johnyy Depp

Im englischen Originaltitel lautet der Liebesfilms: The Time Traveler’s Wife.

The written words. It’s a powerful thing. You have to be careful with it.

Selain Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland karya Lewiss Carroll, karya-karya H.C. Andersen pun turut difilmkan. Belum lagi The Chronicle of Narnia karya C.S. Lewis.

Silvertongue

It’s a powerful thing. You have to be careful with it.”

Petersburg, Paris, Middle Earth, distant planets, and Shangri-la. And never have to leave this room.”

Kalau Middle Earth, rasanya semua kita tahu novel apa yang dirujuk: trilogi The Lord of the Rings karya J.R.R. Tolkien.

Simpulan

Lewis is the author behind the popular Chronicles of Narnia series, though he is arguably even more well known for authoring nearly twenty books on Christianity as well as many insightful essays.

Many are not aware, but The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and The Chronicles of Narnia are all considered Christian literature. The themes wrapped into the storylines come directly from the pages of the Bible, and that’s no accident. Both Tolkien and Lewis had a message to share … that of Jesus.

Interested in learning more about Tolkien’s Christian beliefs? Order this book.
Final Destination 2 Theatrical Poster Final Destination 2 (2003) New Line Cinema Director: David R.

Final Destination 2 Theatrical Poster

Final Destination 2 (2003)

New Line Cinema

Director: David R. Ellis

Running time 90 mins.

Genre: Horror

Starring: Ali Larter, A. J. Cook, Michael Landes, Keegan Connor Tracy, Jonathan Cherry, James Kirk, Lynda Boyd, Justina Machado, Sarah Carter, TC Carson, David Paetkau andTony Todd.

The film takes place one year later after the Flight 180 curse from the first film. While on vacation, Kimberly Corman experiences a vision of a mass pile-up on the highway on which she is travelling. She blocks the entrance ramp to the highway so that motorists who would have otherwise died are spared. No one believes Kimberly until a mass pile-up happens on the highway just like in her vision. Soon the survivors who would have perished in the highway crash start dying in mysterious ways, the premise being that you can’t cheat death, even to its personification.

“For every beginning there is an end“

I like every Final Destination movie. And the second part is I don’t like the most. Even though the movie was a great sequel to the first. New bizarre, weird and freak accidents started to happen. Suspenseful plot of the series, and a decent cast of characters. It was a great sequel to the original movie, though. Yeah, I can say that. But seriously, I don’t like this one.

The plot and suspense in the story was great. Mainly, the first main accident. The Highway pile-up wherein a truck carrying loads of logs accidentally scattered the logs and the accident started to happen. A girl named Kimberly had a premonition about the bloody pile-up and saves several people. And then here’s where the plot is getting very suspense and thrilling, they started to die one-by-one (every Final Destination movies does that, wink)

The good thing in Final Destination 2 is the main character is starting to see clues that can save the lives of death has been targeted.

If they save one, they can intervene and maybe it can skip them. But really, they can’t cheat death.. twice.

I can say that this is a crowd please because they said that this movie did a great job to be the second installment of the first one.

New freak accidents can totally freak you out, besides you can even cheat death for the second time. Or fail, and die like all of the survivors from the first one except one. Clear Rivers who got saved and she was in the second installment. I can say you can’t predict what might happen in a movie, that’s where the excitement rises up.

This movie is better on the first one but not better on the third installment. I’m sorry but I have to say that, because in other ways I can truly say that this movie lacks of effects and maybe the story itself.

But the good thing is, it was different than the other 3 movies, this is the only movie wherein the main character is still alive. They won, they cheated death and death wasn’t able to kill them.

We don’t know what might happen if they’re coming back or not, if they’re still alive. Or are they dead at the moment by now.

The movie was a success though, as a sequel to the first one. It was really a big bang to the movie screens. Especially for those who really loves horror and gory movies.

A must-see movie and worth it at the same time, of course I don’t give negative comments to movies, because I know they did their best job just to improve the coolness of the movie.

Nonetheless, this movie gave us the scream-of-your lives scenes and it freaked out us every single time. No one beats the originality and the concept of the story of Final Destination series. Every movie has a great experiences for our own. Every part has a lot of weird and freak accidents. It was gory all the time.

I give this movie a 6/10

Final Destination 3 (2006)

New Line Cinema

Director: James Wong

Running time: 92 min.

Genre: Horror

Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ryan Merriman, Kris Lemche, Alexz Johnson, Amanda Crew, Texas Battle, Chelan Simmons, Crystal Lowe, Sam Easton, Maggie Ma, Gina Holden and Jesse Moss.

Story: The story is set six years after the Flight 180 curse from the first film. Wendy, a soon-to-be graduate from McKinley High School, enjoys a Grad Nite visit to an amusement park with her friends, Carrie and Kevin and her boyfriend, Jason, before their graduation. Whilst there, one of the friends has a camcorder and Wendy has a regular camera taking pictures of their visit. Wendy and her friends decide to ride on a roller coaster which has a talking devil statue at its entrance which unsettles Wendy.

“This ride will be the death of you”

The most horrifying gore movies of all time. One of the most awesome part in the Final Destination series. James Wong, the director of 1 and 3. Did a great job putting all the stuff in this movie. New Death Scenes will mostly horrify you, more bizarre and weird accidents will star to happen and new victims of death will die one-by-one in a moment of time.

The best part is, the main accident will happen at a Carnival on a rollercoaster ride. We all know some of us are afraid of riding those kind of rides. This is where the thrill will be in action, Roller Coaster is a good idea, the movie is set in motion with those scenes from the roller coaster with the bang. With Wendy’s premonition, the story gets exciting every time another person died.

I can say the third installment was better than the two past movies of Final Destination. It was a tough choice to pick a best one, but for me. This was the best among the rest, it was so unique. But unfortunately, the was movie was predictable in some other ways. Because we all know that Final Destination movie is that a girl/boy sees a vision about how they die and death chases them and then they die. End of the story, but this time they added a couple of twists in the story.

Erin's Death Scene with a Nail Gun

I enjoyed the movie, it made me says “Ew. Gross” at the same time, but mostly I was amazed on what they put in the movie. That photo vision Wendy has, it was cooler than just seeing things with a simple vision.

There will be more slice-and dice, slashing, burning and stick-that-nails-to-her-face scenes. And it also involves Nail guns, of course. and Roller Coaster, a Tanning Bed, Train, Gym, Spear, Horse and utterly provocative fireworks.

The good thing is they didn’t ran out of ideas where these teenagers will about to die. Let’s say, their deaths. One-by-one death is chasing after them and they’re chasing death back. Who doesn’t enjoy Final Destination movies? Well, this is a must-see movie, if you want to freak yourself out then you better watch this movie.

I’m not judging or criticizing this movie, or the movies a rated/reviewed. I’m just sharing my thoughts on what I’ve learned or did I enjoy the movie myself? I’m sorry if I made this movie review a rush, I’ll post more reviews as soon as possible. Hope you like it guys.

I almost forgot, I’ll give this movie a 7.5/10

Variety reports that New Line has settled a lawsuit with the HarperCollins and the Tolkien Trust over profit participation in the Lord of the Rings films. The terms of the settlement are confidential, but this is an important decision for New Line as it clears any potential stumbling block to the production of their movies based on The Hobbit.

The Tolkien Trust did not bring this lawsuit solely to increase the wealth of its members. The Trust supports over 1oo charities, including Save the Children Fund, the Darfur Appeal, Asia Earthquake Appeal and the World Cancer Research Foundation. This settlement will enhance their ability to support these causes.
