Today’s the day for sharing old favorites (see previous post). My friend Brooke in New York introduced me to French-Israeli singer-songwriter Yael Naim’s music years ago, and I developed a little something called a “girl crush.” She’s talented and, well, totally adorable. Lee Fields e’ un artista del North Carolina cresciuto ascoltando James Brown, Temptations, Otis Redding e i classici di Memphis degli anni ‘60.Nel corso degli anni le sue produzioni si sono ispirate al funk degli anni ‘70.
Solo qualche anno fa’ e’ invece arrivato il progetto con The Expression, appoggiati dalla label newyorkese promotrice ,la Truth & Soul (anticipata qualche anno prima dalla Soul Fire) ; la missione  e’ quella di dare una veste “moderna” alla musica soul sulla formula di band quali The Delfonics e The Stylistycs e farla conoscere alle nuove generazioni.

Mis je Floetry ook zo??…ikke wel. But I Kinda found something just as good!! Ze heet Ayah en she sounds fresh. Haar CD is uitgekomen ergens in april 2009 en in de States is ze redelijk goed ontvangen. Dat laatste is besides tha point want haar muziek maakt me een soort van blij en daarmee scoor je bij mij in ieder geval altijd punten. Kort gezegd een heerlijke CD met mooie vrolijke Nu Soul Tunes. Back to the Feature - Wale

If you haven’t heard of Wale yet, you will soon.  Wale has been one of the hottest new artists to come out in the past year.  Repping DC, Wale’s laid back style is one that almost any fan of hip-hop can relate.  This mix tape includes songs featuring Bun B, Royce Da 5′9, Currensy, Memphis Bleek, Talib Kweli, Joe Budden, and Lady Gaga.  Chillin ft Lady Gaga was by far the most popular song off of this mix tape.  However, my favorite song off of this tape, and of the summer, is New Soul.  It is a really good, chilled back, song.  It makes the entire mix tape worth checking out.  Be on the look out for Wale’s CD within the next year, it should be good.

Worth adding to your collection

Bom… tenho muitas coisas prá falar desse espetacular CD, mas a principal delas é a agradável sensação que ele traz de se ouvir algo novo, criativo, original e singular. Já falei várias vezes aqui que só posto os CD´s que me trazem essa satisfação. É meio que um compromisso comigo mesmo, que me leva a preferir ter 100 ótimos CD´s postados, daqueles que a gente ouve e nunca esqueçe que ouviu, do que ter 500 bons CD´s postados, daqueles que a gente ouve, diz que é bom mas não nos toca e satisfaz a ponto de serem inesquecíveis.
A alegria de encontrar essa obra do contrabaixista, arranjador e compositor nigeriano quase inglês, Michael Olatuja, se deve ao fator fusão musicocultural que ele imprime nas suas canções. O pano de fundo da coisa toda é o jazz. Como é possível eu não sei, mas ele consegue fundir sobre essa base coisas como soul, R&B, gospel e até um groove africano que denuncia suas raízes. O resultado é de uma fineza ireesistível, sem dúvida um CD que desentoxica nossos ouvidos da mesmice e aponta para a estrada da arte criativa que vem da alma e não da demanda comercial. Essa obra é riquissima por se tratar do primeiro CD solo de Michael, que vem sido idealizado e trabalho desde 2003. Ou seja, é o resultado de idéias e concepções nascidas durante toda sua jornada musical, onde acompanhou nomes como Terence Blanchard, Patti Austin, Lisa Stansfield, Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, entre outros. Muito legal a gente poder desfrutar desse trabalho, que não ouso chamar de cristão apesar de Michael Olatuja ser um homem de Deus. Tenho me perguntado o porque dessa nossa compulsiva necessidade de rotular o que ouvimos de cristão ou não. Nesse post, vou deixar os rótulos de lado porque acho que está na hora da gente começar a repensar o que a gente considera musica cristã. Se música cristã for aquela que é feita prá cantar nos cultos ou prá tocar nas rádios evangélicas e vender CD´s nas lojas evangélicas, esse não é um CD cristão. Mas se música cristã for toda aquela que é produzida por alguém que tem sua vida cheia de Deus e que inevitavelmente se faz instrumento de expressão do valor de Deus prá esse alguém, independente de onde ela toque, ou a que público se destine, então, podemos considerar que esse é um álbum cristão.
Pazz e jazz prá todos….

Players Race the Kia Soul Hamsters in Brand-Building Game For the Social Web – and Get to Face Down Their Foes

LOS ANGELES (August 5, 2009) – Set your mouse aside, there’s a new rodent at the keyboard – and this one’s got legs.  Kia Motors’ first taste of augmented reality in the social media arena pits consumers in a race with the Kia Soul hip-hop hamsters in a game created for Facebook® – and, appropriately enough, one in which the player’s face can make all the difference.

In association with digital marketing agency Initiative and creative agency David & Goliath, Total Immersion (www.t-immersion.com) has unveiled the new D’Fusion@Home Facebook application, called “Go Hamster Go!”  The game marks the first use of augmented reality in a Kia application for a social media environment — and adds to the cool factor with “game changing” face tracking.  The application is available now on the social networking site (www.facebook.com/kiasoul) under the Go Hamster Go! tab.

In a tie-in to Kia Motors’ launch of its new Soul, the in-page Facebook application supports an interactive game featuring the animated hamsters that also appear in Kia’s television commercial for the youth-oriented car.  The TV spot depicts hip-hop hamsters in a Soul outracing and out-styling their treadmill-bound fellow rodents.

Working with Initiative and D&G, Total Immersion developed Go Hamster Go!, placing any user with a Webcam-enabled computer (and a nose for competition) inside the action.  The wrinkle here is that, unlike any other interactive game, the player controls the action with his or her face.  A virtual magnet “connects” to the player’s forehead, which the player uses to grab and transport the hamsters safely into their new Kia Soul as an onscreen clock ticks down.

Each hamster wears a colored tee mirroring a Soul color, and when the user drops a hamster into the vehicle, the vehicle morphs into that color.  The exit window lists the final score – and the cool features the user managed to add to the Soul.  Users can post their scores on the Soul leaderboard and can challenge friends to compete and beat their scores.

“Facebook is an ideal platform for augmented reality, hitting the right demographic for the Soul launch with a game that extends our broadcast ad campaign while maintaining the fun, hip vibe that is so much a part of the brand,” said Michael Sprague, vice president, marketing of KMA.  “This is the ultimate five-minute drill – the game shows the look and dimensions of the car in various colors, while creating opportunities for users to gain more points by engaging with the cool features of the vehicle.  We are challenging users to compete with their friends on Facebook while becoming fans of Soul.”
