BSEditor: Super Mario is a classic game about a moustached plumber Mario. This game is not much different from the original, classic Super Mario Brothers on NES, but this time the graphics have been refreshed and made after the known and popular sequel from Nintendo DS. There are 16 levels filled with enemies and various bonuses. The difficulty level has been adjusted to players who don’t have much experience with Mario games, so we suggest this game to novices. The score can be automagically send to online hi-score database.

While Nintendo was busy making the announcement about the Wii’s pricedrop (more on that later), they also decided to slip the world a little memo that “New Super Mario Bros Wii” has received a release date. The date was tucked deep into the same press release that finalized the Wii’s new pricepoint, and reveals that the once “holiday 2009″ expected game will now be scheduled to arrive in stores on November 15th.

…Guess “Holiday 2009″ comes a little early this year.
Today, I had the plan to wake up at 8am and have friends over, expecting to be watching Square Enix

Today, I had the plan to wake up at 8am and have friends over, expecting to be watching Square Enix’s press conference on E3 live at 9am. But apparently I mis-read the schedule or something. Now, from what I’ve gathered, SE won’t be on till 3pm. FML

So for now I’ll just post on some of the things I’m looking forward to that E3 has shown me.

-

MAG: Massive Action Game

Not that I’d be able to play it cuz I don’t have a PS3, but this game looks freaking schweet. Its an MMO FPS, I guess. It’ll support online battles with up to 256 players, with users divided into 8-player squads, with 4 squads forming a platoon, and 4 platoons forming a company.

Releases in Fall 2009.

-

Halo 3: ODST (& Halo: Reach)

I’ve known about ODST probably since word first got around, but I was never too excited about it. I mean, I’m all for Halo, but this game didn’t seem too essential, so I figured I’d play it once a friend of mine got it. But then Bungie announced Reach, which I am -psyched- for! I’ve read the first three Halo books (I have the other new ones, just haven’t had motivation to read them..), and I know that the first book, Fall of Reach, takes place before the story of the first Halo game, back when Master Chief was training to become a SPARTAN and goes on all those missions early on when the humans got involved with the Covenant. So basically I have high hopes for this game.

And now I’m pretty sure I have to get ODST because purchasing it gets you included in the multiplayer beta for Reach. Wooooo! D;

Halo 3: ODST Gameplay, with Halo: Reach teaser at the end.

Releases Fall 2009.

-

Final Fantasy XIII

I’m looking forward to this more than FFXIV, why? 1) Xbox! 2) I tried FFXI, didn’t like it 3) Not a big fan of MMOs anyway 4) It’s been too long since I’ve played an RPG, I -need- this.

Releases Spring 2010.

(Oh, and on a side note, I really want a PSP and Final Fantasy Dissidia. Look it up for yourselves.)

-

A few others worth mentioning that I don’t feel like posting too much on:

Brutal Legend – Looks retarded, but it -is- Metal…

Left 4 Dead 2 - Cool improvements, but will gameplay still be as fun and exciting as the first? More so? I don’t want to get it if I can get the same fun from the first game.

New Super Mario Bros. – Same game, re-made for the Wii, similar to what they did with the DS version. But now the game can be played in single player mode, or two, or three, or four.

Finally some good news. Nintendo has announced the release of “New Super Mario Bros” for the Nintendo Wii. It seems to be getting very “meh” reviews and predictions (see comments), but those are obviously from people who don’t understand the compassion some others have for classic Mario. I’ve also heard talk of a Mario Galaxy 2 coming up also.
Add to cart. Immediately.

This entirely makes my day. I’m going to make sure all friends with any connections, direct and/or indirect, to video game stores have my name on a reserved copy the second they arrive.

So what exactly did we get out of this. Some good news for fans of Nintendos game series like; Super

So what exactly did we get out of this. Some good news for fans of Nintendos game series like; Super Mario and Metroid. No real big news in console itself except for more accessories including the Wii Vitality Sensor that checks your heartrate. What exactly will they do with that?

So real no big wow moments from the conference, the ones that really pushed the whole think up to: OK status was the following:

New Super Mario Brothers Wii
A game they really wanted to push. And it looked fun for a casual, play with friends kind of game. So this may acctualy be a new best seller. What you think?

Final Fantasy: The Crystal Bearers
A FF game for the Wii is coming! I love FF games but im not sure how well it translates on to a Wii console. Wont be the same kind of exerperience will it? Will just have to wait for more news on FFXIII.

Kingdom Hearts
Not much to say here. Kingdom Hearts whoo.

Mario & Luigi: Bowsers inside story
Just me or did that look like loads of fun? Sure looked entertaining enough to get when its released. Mario games always seem to have that dont they? The fun and joy of casual gaming. ^^

Golden Sun DS
I used to love these portable games. Golden Sun is a RPG that fits more people then just the hardcore RPG fans. Tho I always prefered the 2D kind of feel in these games.

Super Mario Galaxy 2
Well its …. the second Super Mario Galaxy!

Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicle / Dead Space Extraction
Same kind of game get the same spot here hehe. Two games I acctualy want to try out and play. Sadly the lack of a wii will stop this from ever happening. :/

And the big cannon:
Metroid: Other M
“Can we bring new mature games out as well. Ofcourse.” I was acctualy hoping for a complete new game here and was kinda on the edge of my seat untill I saw the first five seconds and just thought: Another Metroid game…?
I was right. Before you use the word “new” in pressreleases. Be sure to acctualy make it feel new.

So overall. It did not beat down Microsofts awesome performance. Alot of people were hoping for Nintendo to make a great show out of this and it sadly didnt happen. That is not to say tho that they DID show alot of good games! Even if they dont suprise us and kicks the game industry in the balls, it keeps putting out descent family friendly titles that just keeps sellin.

Vitality Sensor… what the…?!

Despite the sort of weird title, New Super Mario Bros. is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a new Super Mario Bros. game that pulls off the series’ classic 2D, side-scrolling gameplay without feeling contrived or like a needless nostalgia trip. While there’s plenty of old memories referenced in this game, it is most definitely new. You rarely see 2D platformers at all these days, and it’s even rarer when it’s done right. While experienced players might blow through the game quickly, New Super Mario Bros. is still completely awesome and absolutely necessary.

Mario’s got more than enough moves to deal with his enemies.

The story is simple, provides just enough to get you going, then gets out of the way. Bowser Jr. kidnaps the princess, and Mario needs to save her by running to the right and jumping on the heads of his enemies. You’ll cruise through up to eight worlds in the game, though the occasional use of Super Mario World-like secret exits and a few alternate paths mean that you’ll only really have to play through six of those worlds. Of course, the quality of the levels means that you’ll probably want to go back and see everything there is to see, but if you’re bent on blazing through the game, you could burn up the minimum number of levels in a day or two.

You’ll get a full SMB-like variety in the game’s levels and worlds, including underground and undersea levels, as well as an ice world, a desert, a few forced-scrolling levels that may make you lose it, and so on. The visuals are fantastic, simultaneously reminding you of the older games while using polygonal graphics and effects very well, making the levels and characters all look really, really impressive.

The level design in the game is great, taking advantage of Mario’s moves in a few key spots. Mario’s move list isn’t terribly deep, but he’s got more than enough to get by. The game reverts all the way back to the NES games’ two-button control scheme. One button jumps, while the other runs when you hold it down and shoots fireballs when you’re equipped with that ability. The game includes some of Mario’s 3D platforming acrobatics from Super Mario 64, too. You can cling to walls and slide down them or use them for wall jumps, which really comes in handy. Many of the game’s secrets seem to be built on knowing exactly when and where to wall jump up to some otherwise-unreachable spot. You can push down on the D pad to execute a butt stomp, too, which is handy for busting through columns of blocks. The game’s power-ups are roughly the same, too, though there are a few new options. The mega mushroom makes Mario grow to fill the screen, making him invincible for a short time and letting you just run right through obstacles. The mini mushroom makes you really small, letting you fit in a few tiny pipes. And the blue turtle shell lets you crouch and slide along like an empty shell, taking out enemies as you move. The new power-ups are interesting, but they don’t really pop up very often, so you’re usually just rolling with fireball power. Overall, the level of control you’re given and the moves and power-ups at your disposal are put together very well and help make the game fun.

Fun, definitely, but not especially challenging. There are a few levels here and there that can get frustrating because they demand that you take your time, but for the most part, the individual levels feel a bit short, though there are plenty of them to go around. You’ll get into several boss fights along the way, but some well-placed fireballs make quick work of your foe–and you keep facing the same foe over and over again in boss fights that feel like they were lifted directly from Super Mario Bros. 3, with some occasional twists that attempt to make the battles feel different. But you’re really just trying to beat Bowser Jr. over and over again, usually by jumping on him unless you have fire power, making the boss fights pretty underwhelming. Though they’re so short that they don’t have much impact on the game one way or the other.

The initial single-player quest is the main chunk of the game, and it’s the best part of the game, as well. But there are additional modes. There’s a two-player Mario versus Luigi mode that puts you up against another player in a short level that wraps around. Big stars appear in the world, and you attempt to collect more than the other guy. If you can hit your opponent with fireballs, jump on his head, and so on, he’ll drop stars. It’s a fun little diversion. Also, the game has a mess of touch-screen minigames, just like the ones found in the DS remake of Super Mario 64. Some of these games are OK, but for the most part, they’re a little tired.

Mario’s main adventure is the real action here. The other stuff isn’t quite as exciting.

The game really rides the nostalgia line very well. There’s just enough old or remixed Mario music and sound effects in there to remind you of the older games, and there’s just enough newer-sounding stuff to prevent the whole thing from feeling shameless. In short, the audio is another one of the game’s many high points, containing plenty of great sound effects (both old and new) and the standard array of speech you’ve come to expect from Mario.

With its ability to recall the older games without leaning too heavily on its famous name, New Super Mario Bros. is an essential new classic that lives up to the legacy of the series quite well. If you’re looking for a quality DS game, look no further.
