The Star Trek fans over at StarTrekPhase2.com (formarly StarTrekNewVoyages.com) are “Bringing the original series to the next phase.”

“Producers did not want to address homosexuality in Star Trek even though the original series talked about race and war and drugs and hippie culture; they addressed all that stuff,” Cawley says. “All the subsequent shows have been adventures in space. We have dared to [do] something that the franchise holders would never do. We are including an openly gay couple in the Enterprise, showing the world that it is a totally acceptable thing … in the future. The prejudice and the bias will be gone…

…For the young actors portraying the gay couple, they have the advantage of not having to recreate an iconic role made famous by another actor. Bobby Rice, 23, was cast as Peter Kirk after Cawley saw his performance on another web-based Star Trek project: Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, which is set in The Next Generation era of Star Trek. (It should be noted that Hidden Frontier has also included gay characters and story lines.)”

~ Read the entire article “Star Trek’s Gay Episode Finally Gets Made” by Greg Hernandez at AfterElton.com

Everything in Star Trek comes true!

Those flip-open communicators are now cell phones. Voice activated computers that can talk to you. People from different nations getting along. Interracial couples getting married and having kids, those wireless portable computers are now Kendles, PDA devices and laptops. And from The Next Generation, those touch screen panels have become all the iPhone and iPodtouch rage. What’s next? Gay marriage… As more Star Trek’s social ideals and techno-wonders become actual realities over time. Hopefully it won’t take us that long to catch up to the gay Star Trek times…

Enjoy this well overdue scene from “Blood and Fire“. Alex Freeman, played by Evan Fowler.

All clips posted can range from news to sports, politics to comedy (is that an oxymoron?), sci-fi to drama and everything in-between – all with a decidedly GLBT slant.

So – what’s on the agenda this week? A little queer Trek, some Gays Gone Wild and all the reasons to consider Jon Stewart as our ally. Click on the jump link below to find out!

Let’s start our video rewind session with a long-awaited trip about the Starship Enterprise.

Star Trek: Phase II, a fan-based web series that picks up where the original Star Trek left off has released the highly anticipated episode, Blood and Fire. The episode was written by David Gerrold, who worked on both the original, as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation. The story was originally proposed for development during ST:TNG, but never made it due to concerns surrounding the allegory to AIDS contained within the script.

In the episode, Peter Kirk (played by Bobby Rice) is an ensign aboard his uncle’s well-renowned Starfleet vessel. However, his relationship with his uncle is not on the best of terms, as neither has seen the other for years and James is concerned about putting his nephew in harm’s way. What the captain also is not aware of is Peter’s boyfriend, Lt. Alex Freeman (played by Evan Fowler) is also assigned to the Enterprise. The interaction between the two actors is a little wooden, at best. However, they clearly bring out the notion that these are 2 people who love each other immensely and want nothing but to spend the rest of their lives together. Nephew and Uncle finally encounter one another, in Peter clearly sets boundaries and expectations with the Captain as to being treated no differently in his duties. The scene also includes an “ultimatum” of sorts, in which Peter coerces his uncle into marrying he and his “husband”, once the current mission is over. The reaction by James T., in his conversation with Spock, is priceless.

Alas, no love story ever flows smoothly, as both Peter and Alex are assigned onto a perilous away mission involving a derelict Starfleet vessel that is carrying a destructive and deadly life form that can’t be killed, leaving the Enterprise with the very real possibility of destroying the ship – and Captain Kirk with a decision that will either end his Starfleet career – or kill his nephew and fiance to abide by protocol.

Blood and Fire is being made available in 2 parts. Part one is available for free download at the Star Trek: New Voyages website. Part 2 is being released in February, with Denise Crosby (formerly, Tasha Yar of ST:TNG) guest starring as a scientist who may have the answer to saving the away mission crew.

The clip below is “act one” of part one, in which we see Peter and Alex having some intimate “alone time”.

Our second stop along the rewind is on modern day planet earth – Fort Lauderdale, to be precise, which is exactly where we catch up with the fabulous foursome from Another Gay Movie to it’s second outing, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild!

In the second of the gay teen sex-romp series, the boys re-group during college vacation for a romp in Fort Lauderdale. The guys will contend with a twinkish terrible threesome, known by the locals as “The Jaspers” who always win the “Gays Gone Wild” contest, which consists of various events that require various hook-ups. As usual, the boys will find themselves challenged with dirty tricks by the Jaspers, testing the waters of “open relationships” and for Andy, he may actually find love for the first time!

In this clip, the guys have lost their swim trunks to The Jaspers during a skinny-dipping scene. The guys try to out-run the beach police, only to wind up in a retirement villa full of Jewish grandmas. Oy Vey!

Check it out!

And lastly, our final clip is from a recent episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. On this edition, he sits down with former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. Jon decides to challenge Mike’s ever so dim view of gay rights and why gays can’t (or shouldn’t) get married. Suffice it to say, Jon isn’t taking anything Mike says at face value and calls him on every viewpoint. Jon makes it seem so effortless – but then again, this is Mike Huckabee that we’re dealing with here.

Check it out!

We’ve been excited about the Blood and Fire episode of the fan produced Star Trek Phase II ser

We’ve been excited about the Blood and Fire episode of the fan produced Star Trek Phase II series for months. It’s now available – though only if you download it (as of Dec 27, 2008 at least) without an option for a streaming web version – yet *UPDATE** It’s on YouTube we’ve linked the episodes below!!.

Yet though this episode has some of the best special effects EVER for a fan made Star Trek flick – some of the early chatter has been about the 3.5 minute homo-erotic scene. While it’s not my own particular preference – it’s fair to have this considering that the original Trek was full of its own gratuitous scenes and no one can argue that Jeri Ryan’s super-tight outfit on Voyager served any practicial purpose other than to stimulate males of all ages. (That said I wonder if the Star Trek New Voyages ppl could line up someone that would agree to a skin tight Jeri Ryan outfit...)

That small scene aside – this is an AWESOME first part of an episode that is superior to anything i’ve seen yet from Star Trek XI. Too bad this is set for the big screen. Best line – Kirk’s nephew is a ‘red’ shirt – so Scotty say – ‘Relax Jim we don’t put bullseyes on the red shirts anymore!”

OHH and it looks like it’s now on YouTube – so here ya go – enjoy

Why the third? The first would be silent movies with the likes of the late Charlie Chaplin. The seco

Why the third? The first would be silent movies with the likes of the late Charlie Chaplin. The second was the advent of the television. The third, well…let’s talk!

Television to me right now reminds me of the RIAA trying to cling to the old ways of doing things when technology is quickly making them incapable of putting up a fight. After their “victory” in shutting Napster down, they in the end accomplished nothing as the wave of change moved despite their best efforts.

Likewise Hollywood must soon contend with their own diminished role. There is a small but ever growing segment of the population that wants “home grown” entertainment. What do I mean by that? Look at the internet to see. Whatever you want it’s out there ( just keep your nose clean, kids! ).

Why wait to see what Ebert and Roper have to say about the movies when the guys at Spill.com will do it with a more youthful and humorous approach. Big names are being left in the dust. And when the news on Onion.com is more accurate than anything NBC or CNN has cranked out in years you know someone is in trouble! And never forget that you will not be bombarded every 10 minutes with a mantra to BUY BUY BUY some stupid product.

Remember when it was for the love of acting? Neither do I. So it seems all the more special when it happens. Fan Films are going to take greater and greater strides, improving to the point that less and less people will care what crap comes out of Hollywood. What began as a few guys horsing around with lightsabers is quickly changing to serious productions.

There are even full length shows available. For example, James Cawley and his gang have put together a superior quality Star Trek series ( formerly New Voyages, now Star Trek Phase II ) that makes use of professional Hollywood talent. It started slow, but each episode has been improving exponentially. The latest “World Enough and Time” was as good as any Trek episode I have ever seen. They even got George Takei to reprise his role as Sulu. When it was over I was simply awestruck. In all fairness, it wasn’t a Fan Film…it was art.

What we are witnessing now is the baby steps. In a way Charlie Chaplin is working his magic with us again. We gaze at the newness of the medium, all the while seeing a glimmer of what it can potentially become…entertainment finally returning to the hands of the people.

Not far now friends….
More than 30 years after it should have first aired Star Trek Phase 2: Blood and Fire is almost…almost ready for airing..on the web at least.

Blood and Fire is in our opinion the best of the best for Star Trek Phase II. It’s all action and battle against the mortal enemy of the classic crew..the Klingons..

Pursued and damaged by repeated Klingon attacks, the crew of the Enterprise must respond to the distress call from a Federation research ship. In a matter of hours the ship and crew will be consumed by a nearby star and the crew of the Enterprise will be consumed by an mysterious horror that threatens both ships as the Klingons watch and wait.

Yes this is a fan product from the Star Trek New Voyages people but look at the footage from the trailer…it looks fraking amazIng.

Looks like Star Trek New Voyages (the awesome fan produces classic trek stuff) is changing its name

Looks like Star Trek New Voyages (the awesome fan produces classic trek stuff) is changing its name to Star Trek Phase II.

Now for me personally Star Trek Phase II holds a lot of meaning. I’ve had a copy of Star Trek Phase II on my shelf for many years.

In 1977 Star Trek Phase II would have brought back Star Trek to network TV.

A footnote in Star Trek history, few people realize how close Star Trek Phase II came to full-scale production.

All of the actors were signed except Leonard Nimoy, whose Spock character would have been replaced by a young Vulcan, Xon. Sets and props were designed and constructed. New models, including a never seen model of the U.S.S. Enterprise, were built. A special effects company was hired, and scripts were written, including a two-hour teleplay that would have been the pilot for the series. But, the plans for the network were canceled, and Paramount decided to shift gears to feature film production, shutting down the television series — less than two weeks before the beginning of principal photography. The result of this decision was Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

This is the story of the lost Star Trek series. Including full behind-the-series information on the show that almost-but didn’t-happen. Full of never-before-seen color artwork, storyboards, blueprints, technical information and photos: Star Trek Phase II reveals the vision behind Gene Roddenberry’s lost glimpse of the future.

So will New Voyages recreate what Star Trek Phase II might have been? We can only hope…
