There will also be a free concert for those who want to attend just a few steps away from my home or you can munch on holiday snacks, sip some wine or eggnog and enjoy the concert from my porch. Tip of the Month: Follow Up Is Key

I know we have all heard it before but it is so important to actually follow-up and make those contacts. I schedule it into my week three times; Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. Of course that is going to change depending on the industry you are in but schedule it into your work week however you can.. I find when I follow up it really opens up that dialogue again with people I had been quoting packages to or even talking to about pricing and have not even made it that far. More of my closes comes from that follow up contact. People’s lives are busy, they need a reminder. Keep it simple. I send an email to them that says, “I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to follow up and see if I can answer any questions on a future Disney vacation?” Historically, I get a really good response from this. Better yet, call them.

A Time for Truth

Most of our social, economic, and political problems are rooted in the desire to get something for nothing, multiplied in intensity by the twin emotions of envy and resentment. Just as the lowest common denominators of human nature are greed and laziness, the fastest and easiest way to justify an attempt to get something for nothing is to proclaim that those who have what you want do not deserve it, and you do.

The Two Worldviews
There are two general ways of looking at the world. A person can have a benevolent worldview or a malevolent worldview. A person with a benevolent worldview looks at life and the world honestly and realistically, recognizing that there are many problems and deficiencies, but for the most part, it is a good place and definitely preferable to the alternatives. People who have a benevolent worldview create everything good and worthwhile in society.

Stinkin’ Thinkin’
People with a malevolent worldview, on the other hand, are primarily negative and cynical in their outlooks. They look for the worst in people and situations. They are characterized by low self-esteem and self-worth. They don’t like themselves, and as a result, they don’t like many others. They see problems everywhere. They see injustice, oppression, unfairness, and inequalities of income and status. No solution is ever enough. No situation is every satisfactory. For these people, there is always something wrong.

Your Self-Esteem and Self-Image
The central role of self-esteem and self-image-how much you like yourself and how you see yourself-cannot be overemphasized. They constitute the person you are inside. These core elements of your personality have overwhelming affects on your worldview. Each person has a deep inner need to feel important and valuable, and be respected by others. Each person needs to believe in something bigger than himself.

Political Opportunism
At the political level, there will always be opportunistic people who will offer to represent those who do not want to work for what they get. These opportunistic politicians will create elaborate arguments to prove why these prospective voters should be given free money. As soon as the specter of free money, of something for nothing or very little, raises its ugly head, more and more people will attempt to get it.

The Test for Truth
The two great questions you have to ponder when considering any personal and government action are these: First, “Is it true for me?” Is what you are saying or hearing true for you, or do you think it may be true for others, but not for yourself? Listen to your inner voice. Be perfectly honest with yourself. Trust your own instincts. Only accept the premise or promise that feels right and is consistent with your own personal knowledge and experience.

Action Exercise

What a year 2009 has been for ECEW. We have grown leaps and bounds and with our members’ help continue to grow as a leading women’s networking group in the lowcountry. As you may know, we have embarked on our major fundraiser of the year – the Flags of Freedom Benefit for Our Troops – to be held on October 15, 2009 at Mount Pleasant’s Waterfront Park.

In addition to the entertainment and food, there will be a Silent Auction during the event to help raise funds to benefit 3 groups: Homes For Our Troops, the Mount Pleasant War Memorial Scholarship Fund, and to replace and maintain the flags at Patriots Point.

Our troops and their families have made incredible sacrifices over the years and now it’s our turn to do something for them.

We are seeking your help to gather items, services, gift certificates, etc. for the auction, as well as for an event-wide raffle. No item is too insignificant. Items can be free-standing auctions or we can combine items into themed gift baskets or groups.

You, as a fellow ECEW member, are the first line of support. Not only would we like a donation from you and your business, but we also ask you to solicit donations from friends, business associates and vendors. If you are unable to make a donation to the silent auction, there are numerous other ways you can get involved. We need everyone to commit to selling some tickets. They are $25. For $25 they will get to sample some incredible food from the restaurants we all frequent and learn about new ones, alcohol that includes Firefly’s Sweet Tea Vodka as well as their newest line of Rum’s, a band, silent auction, and so much more. We appreciate your help in selling tickets and what a wonderful way to promote your business by helping a great cause as a member of this organization of women. If everyone just sold two, we would have one great party!

We want to make this the event of the year. The success of this project depends on all of us. We know that ECEW can make this a success! Please contact the following people if you have a donation or any questions regarding the Silent Auction.

Ladies-

If you know of someone that would like to make a donation to the silent auction for The Flags of Freedom: Benefit for our Troops, please let me know. If you have shops currently around you in a shopping plaza, ask if they would like to participate. Send me an email with who you will be contacting and then the response and I will re-distribute to the group, so that we are not asking the same people.

Also, if you know of a restaurant that would like to donate food for 100 people in exchange for a $500 sponsor level, we need food vendors as well. We would like to have at least five restaurants participating. If you have any questions regarding silent auction donations or food vendors, please email cpaume@gmail.com.

Village Playhouse Opportunity

There is a fabulous opportunity to reach over 10,000 patrons of the Village Playhouse. You can advertise your business in the 2009-2010 Playbill – for an entire year – for as little as $125 ($125 for ¼ page; $175 for 1/3 page; $250 for half page and $400 for whole page)! Every patron that walks in the door to see a performance receives the Playbill (the performance information for that night is inserted into the Playbill.)

In a letter from Kathy Bustos, The Village Playhouse Board President, she states “…By advertising in the Village Playhouse Playbill, you not only reach your targeted demographic of Lowcountry consumers, but you send a message that you are doing your part to support this vital community institution.
