“If I’m A Pink High Heel, He’s A Muddy Tennis Shoe.”
Sarah's Brand New Chapter

Today, we get a little advice from my friend Claire. I knew Claire way before she met her husband when we were just kids until she moved away. (Sad day.)  But, thanks to the beauty of Facebook, we’ve been able to catch up a little, and I discovered she recently started blogging. This girl is a busy nurse and a wife of just over two years that enjoys blogging “in her ‘free’ time.” Please give her a warm welcome, and check out her blog – A Less Than Perfect Girl – and give that girl some love. (Follows also work as well) Most girls can relate to finding the perfect pair of shoes and falling in love with them! We like the color, the heel, how they make our legs look, or how incredibly stylish they are; most women just love shoes. I am proudly one of those women!! A few months ago, I was going to dinner with a few girlfriends. They all arrived at my house and I (never being “ready on time”) was running around finishing my makeup. I was in such a hu

The Banquet of My Life

Mom used to make this all the time. The story behind this goes that when Mom and Dad first got married, all Dad asked Mom to cook were bacon cheeseburgers. After a few days of making them, Mom decided that if she let Dad pick the menu, she’d probably want to hurl. The solution: she made this chicken, and it was Dad’s new favorite. Many years after they split, Dad had to have bypass surgery and he stayed with us; Mom made this by Dad’s request every three days, practically–we were tired of it, but it took a long time to get bored. Dad was known for his rather obnoxious tastes. He didn’t like anything too “exotic” (and Chinese Beef with Broccoli was about as wild as it went), so certain flavors were kept a secret from Dad so he wouldn’t complain. In the case of the chicken, it was the ground ginger. 1 whole chicken1/2 lemonSaltPepperGarlic powder1 onionGround gingerCarrotsPotatoes Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Clean off your bird to your pre

Dine Like Kings

Whew! This day!! Had a crazy nightmare about 4:30 this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep. One of those that rocks you to your core things…every had one of those? I had my makeup fabulously applied before 7am. So many things wrong with that. I fixed Jesse a cup of iced coffee from the Keurig (if you’re a coffee/tea junkie…invest in one. You won’t be sorry.) to help get his day started then fried myself some eggs. We love breakfast food in this house, just not necessarily in the morning I took my mom to have a couple teeth cut out. After I got her home I came home and ended up falling asleep on the couch listening to a storm. After a little bit Jesse had me move to the bedroom so he could noisily make supper =) This is what I woke up to!! Twice baked potatoes filled with broccoli and cheese and bacon stuffed chicken topped with broccoli and cheese. Oh. My. Wow. SO GOOD!!! The best part? We’ve got some left for lunch tomorrow! I’ll let him po

The End Is Near!
Two Hearts One Goal

I went to the doctor today for my routine vampire bite and a probe shoved into my hoo-hah. Everything seemed great. So the nurse called me to tell me that I am going to trigger tonight at 12:30am and that my egg retrieval will be on Saturday. Woohoo!! Not sure if everyone is aware of this, but there is a test that you can run called a PGD (preimplantation genetic disorder) where you can have your cells tested for any abnormalities. I asked the nurse if we could do that, but apparently it was something that you had to request before starting your IVF cycle. I wish I had known about this, but I’m leaving it up to God.  So my protocols are: 12:30 trigger 7:30 doctors appt for blood work 8:00 Zithromax pills 5:30am- no eating but can drink clear liquids 8:30am- no liquids 11:00- arrive at the doctors 12:30- egg retrieval 2:00- head home for my nap time 7:00- Hanson concert (yes you read it- don’t judge. I will be “Mmmbopping” all night long) Good night world!

On Newlyweds still being annoying
ElliotArthurCross

I don’t know why I keep watching Bravo’s Newlyweds. Each episode fills me with anger. After bitching about not being the center of attention at his wife’s baby shower, John announces that their gifts are worth about $3,500, so they “made out pretty good,” and then renegs on his promise to make space for his baby’s play room. What redeeming quality is there? Blair keeps screaming at Jeff about financial issues because his parents had a rough divorce (which sounds like he’s heading toward a self-fulfilling prophecy), and seriously told Jeff that he doesn’t want a joint bank account because if Jeff dies, Jeff’s parents can swoop in and take all of the money. Um, what? That’s not how bank accounts work. When you are an adult, your parents can’t just take the money out. Even if you’re a child, they’d need a court order if their names aren’t on the account. You’re not children, Blair, so don’t fre

Interview With Ruth Benson Short
Fort Worden Oral History Program Blog

From the interview with Ruth Benson Short of Port Townsend conducted by Wendy Los at the Fort Worden History Center on March 3, 2004. Mrs. Short, a longtime Port Townsend resident, served as a Gray Lady volunteer for the Red Cross at Fort Worden during World War II. Among the many stories she shared, Mrs. Short recalled some anecdotes about a friend: “I just loved the colonel’s wife (Marguerite Wade Van Bibber McIlroy). She was a lot of fun. They were living in an apartment on Blaine Street and I was visiting with a group of women, we were knitting or doing something. There was a rap at the door and here stood a very darling couple and they’d just got married. Mrs. McIlroy went to the door, and the couple said they were making their formal call. She said,’You’ve made it. You don’t need to come in, just turn around, honey. When I was young and in love I didn’t want to be going to the colonel’s house to be talked to. You just go along.’ Then she came back in and she said, ‘A young couple

Navy and Gold
The Undomestic Bride

I was recently watching an episode of Newlyweds, a reality show that follows couples on their first year of marriage. Anyway, the only episode I watched included a garden party in Georgia and fabulous decor. I am pretty sure the color combo included navy and gold…but I could be making that up. Either way here is a little swanky navy and gold inspiration. My new favorite color combo!   {image source} {image source} {image source} {image source} {image source} Happy planning! xoxo
