The January issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine is revealing on Thursday that an anime adaptation of Tomihiko’s Yojō-Han Shinwa Taikei novels has been green-lit for an April premiere on Fuji TV’s popular late-night Noitamina timeslot. Masaaki Yuasa (Kaiba, Mind Game, Kemonozume) will direct the overall series, while Makoto Ueda (Summer Time Machine Blues, Fujiko F. Fujio’s Parallel Space) will write and supervise the series’ scripts. MADHOUSE is producing the anime with character designs originally created by Yūsuke Nakamura.

The 2005 novel follows a nameless protagonist who is a third-year college student. The protagnoist looks back at the earlier years of his college life and his adventures with a particular circle (club).

The image adds that this project represents a “rebirth” and that Geass will take a new step starting today. The message is signed with the name, “ZERO.”

In the January 2009 issue of Gakken’s Animedia magazine, the Sunrise anime studio indicated the possibility of more plans for its Code Geass science-fiction franchise. Sunrise created and animated the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series and its R2 sequel. Sunrise did not indicate the format that any hypothetical future plans might take. Update 3: The same message that appeared on the mobile website also appears on the franchise’s computer website after the main page downloads a Flash interstitial. It was also repeated during Saturday’s “Kiseki no Tanjōbi” event. Thanks eaglestorm and Crystal.

Update 4: The franchise’s computer website has posted a page devoted to the new project. The page has a message from Code Geass producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi. According to Kawaguchi, the new project will feature the simultanteous releases of comic series, music, new products under development, and visual works. More details will be revealed in the January issue of Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine, which ships this week.

Very Interesting… Though I am a little disappointed.Maybe I was expecting something ground breaking.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

     Five years after the events of Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Char Aznable, the son of Zeon Zum Deikun, leads his own Neo-Zeon forces against the Londo Bell defense forces of the Earth Federation in what was to be known as the second Neo-Zeon War.  The movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack depicts the conflict and the end of the longstanding rivalry between Char Aznable and the protagonist of the original Mobile Suit Gundam series, Amuro Ray.  Amuro is now a part of Londo Bell, along with former White Base and Argama captain Bright Noa and former Argama mechanic Astionage, along with new members Chan Agi and Kayra Su.  When Char plans to attack Earth, the Earth Federation gives him the Axis asteroid, the former base of the first Neo-Zeon movement, as an attempt to placate him.  Meanwhile, Hathaway Noa, Bright’s son, begins to fall in love with the young daugher of a prominent politician, Quess Paraya.  However, Quess is far more enchanted with Char and ends up defecting to Zeon, where her Newtype powers are taken advantage of by placing her in first a Jagd Doga and then the powerful mobile armor, Alpha Azieru.  Char launches the Axis asteroid at Earth to cause an ice age and force the people of Earth to immigrate to space, but Londo Bell predicts the move and intercepts.  In the course of the battle, many lives are lost, and Amuro, in his Nu Gundam, and Char, in his Sazabi, fight over the memory of Lalah Sune and the fate of the world.

     Now, a movie that promises one more fight between this two great rivals sounds absolutely awesome, right?  Like a fanboy’s dream come true, right?  Well, I can think of another movie like that: Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.  And I give a similar response to Char’s Counterattack.  This whole movie was contrived purely to see Amuro and Char kick the crap out of each other, as Advent Children was for seeing Cloud Strife and Sephiroth do the same.  As such, the plot is absolutely atrocious.  For one, the continued idiocy of the Earth Federation after, say, fifteen years (and believe me, they don’t get any smarter) is just mind-boggling.  It makes me wonder how they ever came to power, considering how stupid they are.  Then, the Hathaway-Quess subplot is just obnoxious.  Quess is a little bitch who is supposed to be the movie’s main tragic Gundam woman, but she’s so dislikable that I don’t know what Tomino Yoshiyuki was thinking.  Chan Agi is another character meant to replace Sayla Mass who is so shallow and uninspired that it’s sad, Hathaway Noa isn’t at all a sympathetic character, acting more like Katz Kobayashi in Zeta Gundam, and Gyunei Guss has just a bit of a lolita complex.

     As for the four returning characters, Char’s motivations are just mind-boggling.  Are we missing something between Zeta Gundam and this movie?  Wasn’t he all like “freedom for spacenoids” and a good guy back then?  And didn’t he hate Neo-Zeon?  What’s up with that?  I mean, yes,  he’s still fighting for freedom for spacenoids, but this is kind of a big change in modus operandi here.  And he’s still pining for long-dead Lalah Sune, who was more than ten years younger than him anyway.  Oh yeah, and Amuro’s still pining for her, even though he only met her in person once.  Amuro’s snoozy, since he’s mostly spending time with the boring Chan Agi, Bright Noa just gets barely any screen time, and Astionage gets less than that.  So, the characters are boring, and the plot’s ridiculous.  I mean, the idea that Char would actually send the Psycommu system schematics to Anaheim Electronics just so he could fit Amuro is pretty far-out, even for this series.

     So, as I said, this movie was entirely for the purpose of satisfying fanboy dreams of having Amuro and Char fight one more time.  And to be honest, even though they look cool, neither Nu Gundam nor Sazabi are even that exciting of mobile suits (beam rifle, beam saber, shield, bits, and that’s it), so the fight isn’t even that cool.  Honestly, I think even Kamille Bidan’s fight against Paptimus Scirocco was way better.  If you want an epic Amuro versus Char fight, go watch the end of Mobile Suit Gundam again.  When their mobile suits get trashed, they fight with rapiers!  That’s epic!  The animation is admittedly quite good for the time, but that’s only one plus.  The music is…  did that movie even have a soundtrack?  As for the voice acting, I had no choice but to watch it in English.  Personally, I prefer Brad Swaile as Amuro Ray, but aside from him, the Japanese seiyuu are definitely better.  I mean, Michael Kopsa’s okay, but I think all of us would rather hear Ikeda Shuichi as Char.  And since I had to watch it in English, I got to have Quess’ whininess multiplied by her terrible voice actress.  Great.  So, honestly, unless you’re a diehard Gundam fan, skip this movie.  Just watch the original Gundam again and pretend that was how Amuro and Char’s rivalry ended.  At least Final Fantasy VII Advent Children had some kick-ass fight scenes to justify that contrived story.

Vamos ao que deu inicio a eles: A última edição da Newtype (revista mó cultuada lá na Terra do Sushi, como vivemos dizendo aqui) trouxe uma imagem  de Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu com nossa querida garota sem sentimentos Yuki Nagato. Do mesmo jeito que houve com Suzumiya Haruhi 2009… Será coinscidência?

Time for a general animu otaku post since… forever eh? And does this make me an official die-hard otaku? Nahh…. Heh heh…

So the deal was this, while trolling around in the streets of London last Sunday, for some apparent reason I come home with the latest issue of “Newtype Magazine” and the Light Novel Anthology “Dragon Magazine”. Déja vu? Nah just kidding, I happened to look around in Japan Center. A Japanese Import shop, selling many Japanese food, drinks and snacks, general household products imported and books (+manga) and magazines imported from Japan as well. Looking around for the new volume (21) of Hayate, I was deeply saddened finding out that its coming out in mid October. Meaning I was not going out empty handed oh no. So I might as well buy the latest issues of Newtype Magazine and a random Light Novel Anthology Magazine which at first thought it was a Manga Magazine like Shonen Sunday -_-. By the way I’m still a n00b at reading Japanese so I just looked at the pretty pictures and illustrations, just to let you know first.

Flicking through the pages in Newtype, I soon to notice that many of the pages were just reviewing the new Anime that’s coming up in the Fall Anime line up. Such as Seitokai no Ichizon, Letterbee, Fairy Tail and many more. And also running and recently finished airing Anime including Umineko, Shangri-la and Canaan. Just by judging from the front cover as you see above (Mikuru-chan in the classic Japanese PE uniform as seen the “Sigh” Arc) the main feature of this issue was mainly about Haruhi, including some interview from the director I believe to many screen shots from the “Sigh” Arc as well. Many fold out posters are present as well, a double sided poster (Eden of the East + Spice and Wolf) at the front pages and another double-sided (Gundam) poster at the back. Not only the main attractions but the magazine also includes some topics about recent Conventions that took place and some columns from the journalists/staff at Newtype relating to Anime. A 100-page Evangelion fanbook is also included in Newtype, including Fanart from die-hard Eva fans, articles upon the upcoming releases and the second film, and lastly many interviews with seiyuus and directors who took part in the production.

So here are some screen shots of some pages I decided to take (as it showed me some interest) which took me 4 days to perfect due to the following reasons;

• Monday: Figuring out to find a good place to take them since flares always show up in the photos. Dawn almost fall so I called it a day.
• Tuesday: Found the right place to take the screen caps. But the battery powering my camera died, and since the batteries are special and rechargeable, I had to wait 14 hours for the charge to complete. So I called it another day.
• Wednesday: Finally finished taking the screen shots, 100 photos exactly in total. But because of my camera with the lack of positioning recognition all the screen shots appeared in landscape, and since 40% of the photos were supposed to be portrait, I had to spend the rest of the night to rotate them to the correct position. Laptop being laggy and a bitch so I called it yet another day.
• Thursday: Finished off rotating photos and uploaded onto Photobucket! But since the photos were like super High Quality and were over 2k pixels wide and 1k tall, Photobucket became a bitch and resized them for me, degrading the quality in the image. I would upload them onto Tinypic, where they retain the original proportions, but I’m just not bothered anymore =| And here is the post.

As I first read on EvaGeeks.org, in a recent Newtype magazine interview in Japan, it was revealed that the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series is set to be released during the summer of 2010. This is a much quicker release than what we experienced with the second film which was released just about two years after the initial film in September 2007. The best part of the news though isn’t found in the release date but rather with the announcement that the new films have been so successful in Japan that the animation studio isn’t concerned with ‘limiting the budget’ on the third film and while they are keeping everyone who worked on the first two films, Studio Khara is also hiring new staff with the goal of maintaining the same level of quality while releasing the new film at a much earlier date than was previously expected. The only downside is that the directors and supervisors of the project won’t be able to do any interviews or press conferences due to the intensity of the schedule. This is great news as you don’t often hear a studio of any kind announcing that they are ‘not concerned with the budget’ of a project. The last film was excellent and the third film seems to be featuring the highest amount of new additions and changes to the stories that we’ve seen yet, so I am very excited about this announcement.

Funimation also made an announcement this past weekend on the release of the new Full Metal Alchemist TV series which has been airing in Japan since last April. Essentially, the bulk of the announcement was releasing information about the english voice-over cast (which I have absolutely no interest in) but it was also stated that Funimation will be releasing the new series on DVD in America sometime in the spring of 2010.The new show has been great to watch and although I adored the original TV show but I feel as though that overall the new series is better especially since its been a much closer adaptation of the manga’s story.

New images and scans from Newtype and Animedia showcasing the anime ‘Fairy Tail’. Looks quite similar to its manga counterpart, probably just some minor changes to keep the production cost low. A gorgeous spectacle never-the-less.

No news on how long the anime will run for, but it’s scheduled for 12th October and its shaping up to be perhaps 2009’s most anticipated series yet (although the manga has been quite dull recently). Click the article for more images.

(Sőt, még egy-két színes scan és pantyshot is befigyel, érdemes lapozgatni, lol.) Remélem mindenkinek feltűnt, hogy a 2009 őszi animék egyes szereplőit mutatják be képekkel, igen felületesen, de egy valamit le lehet szűrni: a KG-Andet tényleg ugyanerre az évre és északra tervezik. Oh yes.

Erről már több helyen is olvastam, és többek között a Moonphase is azt írja, hogy októberre van tervezve. Ami viszont érdekes, hogy még egyik Newtype-ban sem tettek említést erről.)

A seiyuukról is van néhány (még nem 100%-os hír). Ku Fiyu hangját állítólag Aya Uchida, Asukurujét pedig Mina adja majd. Olyat is olvastam már, hogy Shizuka Hasegawa és Kaoru Mizuhara és neveit kapcsolhatjuk majd a két főszereplőhöz, aminek azért lenne több értelme, mert nem annyira >>noname<< seiyuuk, mint az előző kettő, és a Gai-Rei, illetve Lucky Star animékben szerepeltek, amikhez a Gotoh neve fűződik.)

Newtype and figurines, I must say I’m pretty happy. So begins my collection of merchandise.

I’ve neglected blogging recently as the school semester resumed this week and time hasn’t been kind in allowing me a break long enough to write anything decent. Luckily for me, I was able to get my hands on two copies of Newtype (even if it was a bit late) and two figurines as my friend had just recently visited Japan during the school holidays. This really makes me want to go back and just buy a whole lot of merchandise just for fun.

The Yuki figurine was one he bought for me, I had only asked for the two Newtype so it was a nice surprise. I don’t have that much money, otherwise I’d have cashed out for a Hatsune Miku figma.

The other figurine was Mari Illustrious Makinami, who appears in Evagelion: 2.0. I have to admit, I had never heard of Mari before getting the figurine. This was the August Newtype special version which is pretty cool. It looks really well made if I do say so with my very limited knowledge with figurines. Her uniform is pretty awesome looking too. Unfortunately, July’s edition didn’t come with some as awesome. The Evagelion T-shirt was paper-thin and a size too small for me to wear. Plus, it would have looked awkward if I did wear it anyway. :\

Newtype. I hadn’t actually realised how much stuff is in an issue of one until actually opening one and reading it. I had seen Newtype and other various anime magazines before when I was overseas, but they didn’t seem that big at the time. Sadly I’m unable to understand most of it, but it’s still fun to look at the pictures. XD

What I didn’t realise was how big K-ON! had gotten. Two full page spreads in both issues?? If you’ve read my past thoughts on K-ON!, then you’ll know that I did not enjoy the majority of the second half of the show – there’s only so much teatime scenes I can take.

I really, really, really can’t wait for this show. The character design is so cute and the show does sound interesting. October is going to be a busy month!
