Gang

Firstly, just want to say well done to everyone who took part in the tournaments at both Poppleton and York R.I. For one of our teams to win both tournaments was a brilliant achievement.

Myself and Paul have been talking about running two teams next season and we have decided we would like to. My team will be Poppleton Tigers and Paul’s, Poppleton Panthers. The only issue is that at the moment, we don’t have sufficient numbers to have 2 squads as we will most likely need 2 squads of at least 15 players. At present, we have 22 players who look like staying on next season, but what I need you ALL to do, is to confirm you will be staying with us next season. Please can you email me at foxc257@aol.com or text/ring me on 07711871170 to confirm you are staying/leaving. We need to tell the league this coming Friday whether we are having 1 or 2 teams. If we only have 1 squad some players will not be playing many games at all next season as it is 11-a-side with 3 subs and we can only register 20 players max for each team. What we do need however is the commitment from all players staying with us that they will be available to play in all, or at least most of the games as it will be useless having players missing each week if we are down to bare numbers to start with. We know it’s impossible for everyone to play every week but we really do need everyone at training where possible also.

If you have any friends at school or know anyone who is looking for a new club please give them my details and I will contact them as we are trying to get another 8 players to make up the 2 squads. It’s in your best interests to do this as we really need everyone’s support in trying to get 2 squads together so that no one misses out. The only other option would be to stay as 1 squad and train each week together but only 14 players will be picked each week to play in the games.

Quick reminder that the presentation day/BBQ is on the 11th June at our ground and we will be given a time slot to do our presentation, so I will let you know soon what time this is. During the BBQ, it has been requested that the under 10′s and under 9′s provide 2 mums and dads for 1 hour slots between 1pm and 6pm. Can I have some volunteers for this please. If we can get a few, we can probably cut it down to 30 minute slots.

Please get back to me ASAP regarding next season!

Cheers

Christian

Last night, Bravo aired part two of the ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ reunion show.

Last night, Bravo aired part two of the ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ reunion show. I don’t know about you, but I felt like part one was leading up to something explosive in part two.

But that never happened. In fact, everyone was very vague with their answers. Did you notice that too? What’s up with that?

It seems Kyle and Kim Richards gave the most elusive answers: “I don’t want to talk about that” or “I don’t want to go there” when asked about Kim’s erratic behavior throughout the season .

Unfortunately, when you put yourself in the public eye and show intimate parts of your life with the entire world, people may have some heavy questions. One question that was not answered was whether or not Kim has a drinking problem. In my opinion, Kim didn’t need to answer the question, because her behavior answered the question for her. Clearly, she has some sort of problem, whether it is drinking or something else.

The point I’m trying to make is, viewers become vested in the ‘characters’ on the show. People are concerned and I don’t know about you, but I’m not here to judge Kim. I think people just want to make sure she is OK.

On that note, I am glad to hear that Lisa VanderPump and her husband Ken finally got rid of Cedric. Unfortunately, it sounds like Cedric, best known as Lisa’s lazy and leech like side-kick, didn’t go quietly.

I don’t know about you, but I really like Lisa and I felt bad about how things apparently ended with Cedric. But, I never really liked him anyway. So, I won’t miss him. Hopefully he won’t be back. Good riddance, I say!

There is no word yet on whether or not Camille will be back for another season, but I have a feeling she will be. In fact, I think they will all be back.

What do you think?

It’s over. I sit here roughly 3 hours after the final Mariners game of the 2010 season and I’m struggling to piece together an “End of the Year” blog post. I could point out the obvious things of 101 losses, the worst offense in baseball, and how this team took quite a few steps back… but I don’t want to.

The Mariners ship in 2010 was sunk long ago...

I decided the minute the game ended this afternoon, for all intensive purposes, this Mariners season ended. It cannot get any worse and it cannot get any better. Simply put, it is what it is. Mariners Nation will anticipate the announcement of the A.L. Cy Young Award, but after that, let this one go!

The playoffs will go on for the next 3-4 weeks and then everybody goes into hibernation. I’ll be watching the playoffs, most likely every game. We all wish the M’s were representing the A.L. West this season but it wasn’t meant to be. We have a competent general manager that will do whatever he can to fix this the right way. Step One already began: the great amount of success within the Mariners minor league system. (Photo courtesy of Jill Workman)

Some players won’t be back; new ones will take their respective places. By that 2nd week of February when the sun decides to stick around just a little bit longer, and the grass begins its process of going green again, baseball will be in the air.

It sure is a lot tougher to wait a whole offseason coming off the season the Mariners did. That of course depends on how you see the 2010 season as a whole. Was it half-full or half-empty? I’ll leave that up to you, but whatever the substance, you spit it out and look for improvement. You want to get better. You want to make amends. You want to see the Mariners be a positive product to watch, root for, and love.

The Seattle Mariners will never lose me. They could lose 120 games in 2011 but I’d still follow their every move and be ready to “get after it” in 2012. I’m committed to this franchise. My fandom is married to them. I’ll never stray, I’ll never cheat. The Seattle Mariners and I are like Shrek and Donkey.

I will miss the Mariners, but I look forward to the new and improved ones that will dawn the navy and teal in February. I’m patiently waiting for my trip to the World Series in the Emerald City. I go into every new season hoping “this is the year”. It might take awhile, it might happen next year. I’m in this for the long haul. Holy Moly Me oh My, you’re the apple of my eye.

——————————————————————
P.S. – When I made this back in February, I really did “believe big”. 2011… please be a little more kind to us. Thanks!

As I followed him down the ramp, he asked me if I needed any more autographs. Not knowing who he was, I handed him my book, and he signed it, “Vince Orlando.” Years later, I would learn that he was the team’s equipment manager. When I told him I was disappointed that not all of the players were wearing their uniforms, he pointed to one who was, standing alone by his locker. “How about that guy?” It was Number Eight, Carl Yastrzemski.

I suddenly felt winded as I approached the young ballplayer who was twice my age. I tried to remember how many doubles and triples he had hit so that I would have something to say to impress him, but nothing came to mind. I handed him my book and silently watched him write his name.

There was a moment of quiet reverence between us. Somehow, I knew next season would be a good one.…

We’re now coming into what I call the “Dregs of Summer” in the garden. Dregs being what’s left, or, the remnants of… In my experience, this last part of Summer is a tough time to keep things looking fresh in the garden, so I just don’t. I usually put in about as much effort as I do during the rest of the summer (aside from a mid-summer refreshing) and so the result is that about now things will start to get a bit leggy, a bit blown out, or just pain tired. I’m ok with that. I like seeing the different seasons in the garden. On the temperate Coast here, the seasons are stingy with their changes, and the ones we do get are subtle. I try to pay attention to the rhythm of the garden and I don’t try too hard to force things into looking permanently like it’s late Spring or early Summer. (prime-time around here)

August in the garden

I trim things back if they’re in the way (of me or other plants), I keep up with my watering & weeding and I continue to harvest the food we’re growing. Aside from that, I also do a lot of thinking about what to do next- what changes I want to make in the layout of my garden for next year, what plants will need replacing, which ones I want to plant more of or try for the first time, etc. Mostly what I do, though, is wait for the sun to appear so I can go out and enjoy it! As garden seasons go, it’s one of the more relaxing ones.

Or do that thing from the Ellen show where she pulls the lever and sends the loser plummeting through that hole in the platform. But she couldn’t laugh. Or be sad. That would ruin it. I guarantee they’ll do something like that next season.”

Blasphemy.

i personally agree with nathan. pure genius idea right there.

Word on the street (and by street I mean via Reality Steve) is Ali’s the next bachelorette. I

Word on the street (and by street I mean via Reality Steve) is Ali’s the next bachelorette. I don’t like or dislike Ali. I think she’s as interesting of a choice as ABC has. But I guess people are pissed she’d choose her job over Jake/The Bachelor, but then choose The Bachelorette over her job (assuming she had to choose and her job didn’t suddenly decide to give her leeway).

Here’s the thing, girls. Why would you leave a job, which she’d already said she loves, over a one in four (or one in three, or even a one in two) chance with a dude? And not a dude you picked, but was picked for you? I definitely wouldn’t. Jake is bo-ring. And he ruined her boots. And likes Vienna. And wants a girl who’s going to stay at home and raise his kids for him (when Ali clearly wants to have a career). There are so many warning signs against being with dude, she for sure made the right choice. Especially since his hoohah is now tainted with Vienna sausage juice. And likely infected. Disgusting. I wouldn’t want to be gyrating upon that thing after Vienna has, either.

Anyway, now Ali has the chance to CHOOSE a guy (not have one picked for her), and be the star of the show. She controls her fate, not someone else. And I can relate to that! Plus, now SHE’S the princess everyone’s fawning over, rather than being one of many girls clawing for a random dude. AND she gets to be a TV star and be famous, so even if the whole Bachelorette thing doesn’t work out, she’ll for sure find a guy. I say, get it Ali!

Editor’s note (I’m the editor, right?): After posting this I heard about Diaries of the Departed on abc.com, and here’s Ali’s departed video. She’s pretty much saying the same thing about leaving her job for a guy who WILL be with her, but not for a chance with a guy who might be with her. Well said!

And am I the only one who thinks Ali’s HAMMERED in this video? In fact, most of the limo rides (this is the first Diary I’ve ever watched), I think the girls seem drunk. Slurry, not as well spoken as they were in the show. I know they’re emotional, but not THAT emotional. I think someone’s giving a newly heartbroken girl a drink to ease her sorrows. I guess that’s one way to get them to talk, ABC!

Many people still have not sat down and thought about what needs to be done to go faster in 2010. Do

Many people still have not sat down and thought about what needs to be done to go faster in 2010. Do I need to swim more, bike more or run more? Where am I weak compared to my competitors? Do I need more long rides or runs? Maybe I should do more speed work?

Too many people will never answer these questions. Instead they will continue to do the same type of training as they did before. They will wonder why they still can’t run under 1:35 in a half ironman. They will stick with the same program that got them the results they are currently complaining about. Much to a planner’s delight.

Too many will take off the time between now and January. They will run half of what they normally would, which in itself, is half of what they really need. Their bike will sit collecting dust in the garage. Goggles will dry rot from sitting in the trunk for the next 2 months. Their idea of working out is running from the car to the coffee shop.

When their first race rolls around, they will wonder why they got their ass kicked (again) and roll out the excuses. I’ve been slacking on my training (duh, we see your race result), I’m doing base training, I haven’t done any speed work, my long run isn’t up there yet, my build phase starts next week.

Their failure to plan will be your benefit. Their inability to see the long view their demise. They will spend all season playing catch up, only to fall further behind. You can use their strengths to your advantage, while your weaknesses won’t benefit them.

Now compare this to an age group swim team. Their coach plans their season. They don’t take lots of time off transitioning from long course to short course and back to long course swim seasons. They swim 46-48 weeks per year. A week here, two weeks there are their only breaks. Then it’s back into the water. They address things that help them become more efficient early in the season, doing drills, high velocity swimming, working their turns. Making the little things that are crucial to success a habit. They then progress into their training program. Sprinters now train one way, distance swimmers another. Once the championship part of their season rolls around they start tapering. There is no panic about trying to squeeze in this type or that type of workout in. No distress because they have to race in three weeks. The work is done, it’s time to go fast. They don’t hope they have a good race, they just wonder how much faster it will be then early in the season.

2009 was the year where if you wanted an age group Kona slot, suddenly you needed to be 10-15 minutes faster to get that slot. Where elite run times dropped 2-3 minutes over the half distance. Before you could go around 9:30 and give yourself a chance to go to Kona. Now, you are so far out of it, you have to hope the roll down rolls down past the normal roll down roll down. If you are an elite, you used to be able to stay in the top 10 with a 1:22 run. Now all you are doing is counting butts as they pass you by. 53 is the new 55 for the IM swim.

Are you doing the work now to insure success? Are you objectively evaluating yourself, your training and your habits to make yourself a success? A good way to insure failure is to fail to plan. Fail to look at yourself in the mirror. Fail to tell yourself you need to change. Fail to have the balls to actually make those changes.

Now is next year. Now is the time to make the tough decisions about yourself, your life, what you want to accomplish in sport for 2010. Are you starting to do the little things that lead to success? Are you taking a big picture view with your planning? Have you even thought about getting out the door to train this year for next year? Is your rate of change outstripping everyone else’s? Or would you prefer counting people’s butts as they run by?

The weather is cooler, leaves are changing colors, we’ve had to turn on the heater, the days are shorter, and we’re wearing warmer clothes. Yes, it’s a change of season and I’m excited about it. At the same time, it seems I’m in a season of change in life, and I want to be as enthusiastic about it as I am about the change in weather.

I have led various small prayer groups over the years, with differing purposes, and usually different people in each of the groups. We get to know each other by the Spirit, and sometimes the Lord draws us together into fellowship, as well. For more than five years, now, three of us have been connected in this way, even going to China together last spring. I love these two ladies dearly and trust them with my life – both spiritually and naturally. We are forever connected by the Holy Spirit.

We’ve all been aware for some time that a season of change for our prayer group was approaching; we just didn’t know the exact timing. The Lord began to prepare us a few months ago for the coming change by calling us to seek Him as to whether we were still to be a part of the group. Even though all of us recommitted fully, we knew the time was short for things to remain as they were. A few months later, the season of change is upon us, and the other two women have moved on into the next season of the Lord for them.

I am truly excited for what the Lord will do in this next season of their lives. He’s been training and preparing them during our five years together for other people who need to know Him as they do. If they didn’t move on now, in God’s perfect timing, they would stagnate, and miss ministering to and with others the Lord has put in place. They have chosen to follow His lead away from the comfortable and secure place of the familiar, into the unknown – because it’s their season of change.

Though I have loved our weekly prayer times and the regular fellowship that came from it, I am not sad. With much anticipation, I look forward to those people the Lord will bring in to replace these prayer warriors. Despite the much He has already accomplished in and through us, there is still much to do in prayer for His body in preparation for Christ’s return. He’s not finished with this group, but is pruning it for greater fruitfulness in all of us, as well as grafting in new branches with whom we will wrestle against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in the heavenly realms on behalf of the body of Christ!

It’s a new season – duration unknown. I must continue to fix my trust and hope in the Lord, not in what I do or with whom I do it. I am here for His purposes in every season of life, including seasons of change. In His plan and purpose, I will forever love and treasure the people connected with me in each season. I will pour into them and allow them to pour into me as we grow in God together serving Him. When the season of change comes, I will release them and trust God as we begin all over again.

A season of change in God – how exciting!

Psalm 31:14-15 But I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hands . . .

Florentino Perez’s decision of bringing Kaka at the Bernabeu might have forced his side to spend a lot of money; however, it was the desire of being successful next season that made him do it. Such determination shows how much Real want to bounce back from their poor form last season; and in fact, it isn’t only a positive sign for Madrid fans, but also is it a new threat for Barcelona.

Something new?

FC Barcelona are the reigning Spanish Champions, and their treble last season proves how strong they have been under their new coach Pep Guardiola. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have been fighting for glory; however, the last time they met at the Bernabeu Stadium, the score was 6-2 in favor of the Catalans.

It could be different next season though, and with the likes of the former Fifa player of the Year Kaka, Los Blancos supporters could see their team triumph for the third time against their rivals in the last five meetings.

SANDALFORD Wines is set to expand after an agreement to buy the Killerby vineyard on Caves Rd, Margaret River.

The vineyard is located on the boundary of Sandalford’s existing 400ha vineyard.

Sandalford Wines chief executive Grant Brinklow said the purchase provided Sandalford with a unique, long-term opportunity.

“First and foremost and coinciding with our vision of delivering ‘a fine wine experience’, our primary objective is for Sandalford to be a benchmark producer of premium and super premium wine from one of Australia’s – and fast becoming the world’s – leading wine-producing appellations, Margaret River,” he said.

“This acquisition will help achieve that objective by giving us access to some more well-established vines on arguably one of the best sites in the region.”

Mr Brinklow said the site would play host to large-scale concerts and events over the coming years.
“Negotiations are currently underway with our promoter partners to bring some truly world class performers to our Margaret River vineyard next season, the likes of which haven’t performed in the region previously,” he said.

Mr Brinklow said the venue would hold at least 12,000 people.

“We have aspirations of making our Margaret River vineyard the premier winery concert venue in the country.”

Do you want to shed some clothing so you could be fashionable?

You can still make it work for you by adding a long scarf doubled and tied around the neck of your vest or jacket. How about a hat that is not only functionable but also fashionable? Many stores are putting scarves and hats out at very special prices at this time of year. Pick them up and save them for next season.

Take that square long scarf, fold it into a triangle and tie it around the shoulders of your coat. Not only does it make the coat warmer but it adds flair to last season’s coat
