Is there such a thing as karma? Destiny? We’ll see as the New Orleans Saints attempt to complete a perfect 16-0 season. It certainly seems that way after some of the games they’ve been through. Trailing the Washington Redskins almost the entire game, it took miracle plays such as Robert Meachem’s amazing forced fumble return of an intercepted pass. Just watch the clip.

On the flip side, it’s really interesting how much of a role expectations play. The Indianapolis Colts right now have the same 12-0 record as the Saints and could just as likely complete a perfect season. Yet the media focuses its attention on the Saints, because there’s a compelling story there. They haven’t been the dominant dynasty the Colts have; they’ve been a very mediocre, if not downright poor team, that has a dedicate fan base. So when the lovable losers have a chance to make history, everyone’s all over the story. When the Colts meet expectations and win game after game, no one notices.

In other words, this season’s Saints are fulfilling the maxim, under-promise, over-deliver.
