After weeks of waiting, Fukuyama Masaharu’s latest single “Hatsukoi (はつ恋)” or

After weeks of waiting, Fukuyama Masaharu’s latest single “Hatsukoi (はつ恋)” or “first love” is finally out !! Of course I checked out the PV right away and here it is for your personal satisfaction !!

Again, why is he singing on his bed? I love the part when he sings with his band, but I don’t like the fact that he doesn’t play the guitar while singing with the full band.

Also, I happen to find out that this song was also used in an advertisement for a certain brand of LCD TV.

This video is cool. I think this is better than the official video..(^^,)

If you are looking for a copy of the single, I guess it is available on the net It is there. You just have to find it. Don’t punish me. I also cannot find any Romaji translation of the lyrics, but if you want you can check out my other post HERE about this song. In that post you can see the song’s English translation. I hope you like it.

So , I guess that will be the last single for Masha this year. But he will also appear in a certain NHK music festival on New Year’s Eve! I will try to make a post about it.

And next year we will see Masha all year round because he will be the lead actor on the NHK Taiga Drama “Ryomaden” as ”Sakamoto Ryoma”. yeah , I know you can’t wait for it right?

So for now, lets enjoy his latest single.

(“,)wonderwall

(note: I do NOT own the videos, I simply embed it. Credits will GO to the people or company who made it. (^^,))

What did TVXQ do on December 4th? Ishihara PD blog message.

Q: What did TVXQ do on December 4th?
A: They were at NHK!

Were you surprised to hear about it a little bit?
We did shooting of Music Japan Christmas Special at NHK,
but I could not reveal about it until now, please be understandable.
They were here for Music Japan Christmas Special.
Broadcast/12/20/09 (Sunday).

They will sing “Stand By U” full song version.
And there will be a message from TVXQ to their fans.

For me, it was TVXQ’s 30th songs shooting.
It’s been a while and I could talk with all five of them.
I tried my best to deliver your thoughts and requests to TVXQ.
How did it turn out? Please watch it on air.
Please look forward to Music Japan Christmas Special which will broadcast on December 20!

Ishihara PD is so considerate!

Once again, there is a lovely article in the Music Japan staff’s blog, EYESBLOG.

To all Tohoshinki (TVXQ) Fans

As you know, Tohoshinki will participate in some music programs in this year end in Japan, such as Kouhaku.

We can see English comments sent from international fans, and also Japanese messages written using the translating engines. Also, there were many messages sent from many international fans for our program, Music Japan.

It may be presumptuous for me to ask you Japanese fans, but I will be very happy if you support Tohoshinki, thinking that you are the representatives of all the Korean and International fans.
Though we are staffs of the Japanese TV station, we are planning to produce programs that our international fans could also be delighted in watching.

Well, I could not request any specific examples.
But I am especially in tears when I read messages sent from abroad…
(Especially, when I think how Cassiopeia members are feeling)

(Ishihara PD) Nov 26, 2009 15:24

Ishihara PD is so considerate about our international friends! So, I’ll once again explain in details for making comments in this blog.

A small window will arrive. In the top column, please write in your name, and in the second big column, please write in your comments related to NHK Kohaku Utagassen, Music Japan, and Ishihara PD & staff. Again, it will be nice if you can write where you are from as “I am a Tohoshinki fan living in Peru”. When finished, click on the left “送信”.

It’s amazing how some songs are able to bring cheer to our lives, while others trigger bucket

It’s amazing how some songs are able to bring cheer to our lives, while others trigger bucket loads of tears.

By and large, the radio waves and music charts are dominated by sad love songs, of spurned feelings, of betrayal, of things gone awry and lives spiralling downhill.

That’s why I appreciate songwriters who pen uplifting songs that provide the inspiration when I ache for it, or even tickle my funnybones when I need a good laugh.

I have started collating a list of “genki songs”, to spur me on when my energy level dips or my mood swings off tangent.

One of the latest on my chart is Progress by Japanese songwriter-singer Shikao Suga (スガ シカオ).

More accurately, it’s a song written by Suga, and performed and produced by a collective named “kōkua“. The group comprised Suga himself as the vocalist, and four other professional musicians – Satoshi Takebe (武部聡志), Hirokazu Ogura (小倉博和), Takamune Negishi (根岸孝旨), and Gota Yashiki (屋敷豪太).

kōkua was formed to produce the theme song for the NHK documentary programme Professionals: Ways of Work (プロフェッショナル 仕事の流儀) which went on air in January 2006. The single was released in the same year.

And the famous line that has inspired many viewers, and listeners, goes: “あと一歩だけ、前に 進もう”, which basically means “go forward, it’s just one more step”.

In fact, the beauty of Suga’s lyrics is that they speak plainly of the everyday person’s aspirations to search for the ideal self and find the courage to face the future, a world of unknowns.

I caught the song while watching the NHK programme a few months ago – yeap, it’s still running. A very belated introduction to this motivational programme and this talented songwriter and singer, I must say.

Suga is now with Office Augusta, an indie music label that has been churning out some refreshing vocalists like Chitose Hajime (元 ちとせ) and Motohiro Hata (秦 基博) .

Hopefully, there will be more great stuff from Suga and the Office Augusta stable to add to my genki playlist soon.

One of the joys of November in Japan is the release of the top 60 new slang and trends of the year. Publisher Jiyu Kokuminsha provides the list, and fortunately Pink Tentacle provides excellent translations of each term (with explanations for those who may be less familiar with pop culture, politics and notorious crimes in Japan).

Next month 10 finalists are selected. I will start introducing some terms on my blog. You can read the full list of 60 new slang of 2009 on Pink Tentacle.

Naniwa-no-miya Remains, with the NHK building and Osaka Museum of History in the background

Long before the city of Osaka existed, there was an imperial capital called Naniwa. It first served as the seat of the emperor and his grand palace in 645, and for the second time in 744 (capital cities tended to move regularly as new emperors took power). Thanks to its strategic location, Naniwa developed into an important seaport for trade and cultural exchange not only between different regions of Japan, but with Korea and China as well. Even after the first permanent capital was established in 710 in Heijo-kyo (modern-day Nara), and in 794 in Heian-kyo (modern-day Kyoto), Naniwa acted as the seaport for imported customs and traditions that Japan integrated with its own to form the civilization we know as Japanese.
Besides sea routes, Naniwa was the trading hub for overland routes, much as it remains today. Militant Buddhist influence was be strong here, centering on the Honganji sect, but would finally be violently crushed by Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century, and in the 17th century Toyotomi Hideyoshi would establish the great merchant’s capital of Osaka.
The name “Naniwa” remains in place names, such as Naniwa-ku (Naniwa Ward), Naniwa-bashi (a bridge on Nakanoshima island), Namba (the famous entertainment district, whose name is a modern reading of the same kanji characters (難波) for Naniwa).
Naniwa-no-miya, which was built two times on two different sites, was one of the grandest palaces in ancient Japan, and when its role as the imperial government center had ended, it served as a diplomatic meeting and lodging place for high-ranking overseas dignitaries visiting Japan. Only a small portion of Naniwa-no-miya remains, which can be seen in a small park adjacent to Osaka Castle Park. Next to the ruins is the Osaka Museum of History, which is the best museum in Osaka and one of the most enjoyable museums I have visited period. It is not only informative but engrossing, as it appeals not just to history buffs but average people who may not know anything about Osaka’s deep history. Additionally, you can enjoy a spectacular bird’s-eye view of the grounds of Osaka Castle and the Naniwa-no-miya remains from the tenth floor of this building. Both of these can be accessed from Tanimachi 4-chome Station (Chuo and Tanimachi Subway Lines).

One of the more interesting places to venture is up Centre Gai. This small street and the small streets surrounding it, provides you with a glimpse of Shibuya’s fashion. This is not to be confused with Harajuku. Here, you’ll see the infamous Yamamba. This has been literally translated to be “Mountain Hag”. It is a subculture of Tokyo and consists mainly of teens coming from the rural areas surrounding Tokyo. They tend to wear pajamas or anything in a pastel type colour. Guys tend to do the same, but they also include gray clothes. The biggest shock is their skin, make-up, and hair. First, they usually go to tanning salons until their skin has such a dark tan, it looks brown. Their hair tends to be bleached blonde, and then they add various pastel colours like pink or baby blue. As for make-up, both men and women wear white make-up that goes around the eyes and white lipstick. This is to give an image similar to a reverse panda. They can usually be seen around the Centre Gai entrance to HMV.

As you continue to head up Centre Gai, you go from the Yamamba hang out near HMV to the shoe outlets, and on to the hip hop centre of Shibuya. The closer you get to the NHK studios, the more the influences from Hip Hop fashion and music becomes apparent. You can find lots of shops selling Rastafarian style clothes and some Japanese style Hip Hop clothing. You can also see NYC Records, which is one of the more famous places for DJs to pick up vinyl.

Shibuya 109

Probably the most well known place in Shibuya, especially for women, is 109 (ichi maru kyu). This building can easily be seen from Shibuya crossing when looking west. This is where all of the young teens and early 20 year old women go to get the latest fashion. It is also popular for the gyaru fashion. Gyaru is a broad term for various young women’s fashion. It can range from a princess look with big hair to the Yamamba’s that I mentioned earlier. While I would say the majority of gyarus in this building would tend to be more of a princess variety, it isn’t impossible for you to see almost any type of young girl entering and exiting this building. You can also see many of their boyfriends happily in tow as they cruise looking for the next big thing in fashion. I have heard that Madonna and Gwen Stefani enjoy visiting 109, and various other celebrities have been known to drop by. It’s unlikely that any of the girls here would care though. For guys, there is 109-2, which is just north of Shibuya station.

Shibuya Love Hotel

Heading towards 109 leads to a fork in the road. Head left and turn right at the second street. This will take you to Shibuya’s, Love Hotel Hill. This area is called Dogenzaka, but in reality, it’s a compact area where every street has a love hotel. If you don’t know what a love hotel is, it’s basically a hotel where you can stay for one or two hours. The rooms tend to be large and each hotel works hard to protect your privacy. The main purpose of a love hotel is for young couples to have a place to enjoy some personal time together in a private bedroom (a.k.a. sex). To the untrained eye, you may easily skip over one of these hotels. However, there are several easy signs to spot one. First, look for a tacky looking building. They can be built to look like a Romanesque mansion, like a castle, or some other crazy theme. Many of them just occupy a plain building, but all the windows are tinted or mirrored. Another sign that it’s a love hotel is to look, or listen, for a fountain. Traditional hotels would never put a fountain in front of the hotel. The entrances for the hotels are almost always hidden to protect the couples’ privacy, and if there is a sign out front, they’ll have two prices, rest or stay. If you search the internet, you can find a lot of crazy love hotel rooms. Some are themed after Hello Kitty, Anime scenes, trains, buses, planes, and almost any fantasy you could want. From what I heard, all you have to do is enter the building, select a room from a picture by pressing a button, and enter the room. To get out, you just put money into a machine on the wall and the door opens to let you out. You will never see a single person while you are there.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/109_(department_store)

This is Part II of a III part series. Tune in next week for the final part of the series.

We received a request of renewal of TV Licensing the other day by post. In the UK, TV owners are required to obtain an official TV license for the reception of TV and radio broadcasts. The licence fee represents approximately 75% of the public broadcasting BBC’s income. The current annual license fee for a colour television licence is £142.50 and £48.00 for black and white TV, and is charged on a family unit per household basis, which means there could be many TVs per household covered by a single license. The license fee is free for over-75s and 50% discount for people with visual impairment. Payment can be made via online (monthly, quarterly, or annual payment by Direct Debit, or debit or credit card payment), over the phone, sending a check via post, or at over 20,000 PayPoint outlets nationwide located in the shops and supermarkets. You can carry over your TV license to a new address by updating your information online or by post. Refunds are available for complete unused quarters that remain on your TV Licence at the point it was no longer needed, for example, moving abroad. Astonishingly 95% of British paid the TV license fee in 2007/08 period, but you have no choice but pay, if the fine is up to £1000 and you are bombarded with scary TV adverts (below) or posters.

Like the Council Tax, the TV licensing fee has been going up and up every year. The first time we paid for the TV license in 2003 was £116, therefore, £26.50 increase (about 23％) in 6 years. Although there are some silly programs, BBC also produces many good quality programs and I don’t complain to pay for TV license. However, BBC is also criticized the way they handle license fee payers’ money, such as executives’ high salaries and expenses, secret pay deals of star presenters, and expenses on luxurious villa in Cannes. Popular TV presenter Jonathan Ross’s salary was £6 millions, before the £3million pay cut due to the Andrew Sachs affair. I hope they understand the current hard economic circumstances and license fee payer’s sentiments, and use our money more discreetly.

Tech-On!
