So my joke was the funniest, and I pushed Ni into the pool. But since I was already in my swimsuit (just in case mine was the lousier joke), I joined him and we swam for a little. Past three days were spent together, yesterday was our 16th consecutive day meeting and we’re still not sick of the other. Friday we played tennis with Ranran and Mark. That night I was in quite a bad mood coz of work but Ni made it better by just being around. Saturday yoga in the morn was fantastic, I skipped rwinds and cleaned my room, he met my grandparents, who looked real happy and were very nice and chatty towards him. Afterwhich was KTV but his friends pangsehed so in the end it was us two + Jeremy and SJ sitting at TCC having a chat over drinks. Sunday we ran 7km and met Ru and Yuan for dinner at Billy Bombers coz we had a voucher (18 bucks off min order of 36 bucks), which Ran gave us, which Yuan realised it was actually his and he gave Ran and Ran gave us and in the end we used it at dinner. Hahaha.

Oh how can I forget, I cut Ni’s hair on Sunday just before the run. It’s now very very short. But I kinda like his new cleancut look, as compared to his previous scraggly longish hair.

At 2 months and a couple of days, we’re still madly in love. Over dinner we were staring at each other grinning, and Ru and Yuan were like… “what are they doing?”. And I replied, “we’re actively loving each other”. Haha. We don’t ever want this feeling to end.

Je profite de cette belle journée pour baptiser une nouvelle catégorie (j’ignore si elle vivra) : “Ho, le beau site”. L’objectif est de découvrir ensemble un site d’une qualité qui daigne attirer mon attention.

Or, comme vous le savez tous et toutes, une députée UMP, Edwige Antier, pédiatre de son état a proposé une loi visant à interdire la fessée ; nenni de prison ou de sanction pour les contrevenants, cette loi vise avant tout à en finir officiellement avec cette pratique en la faisant entrer dans le code civil.

Cette pédiatre avait déjà brillé par le passé par ses propos sur l’adoption homosexuelle, et sur l’homosexualité en général qui ont fait la joie de bien des associations, hurlant aux raccourcis faciles. Mais nous nous éloignons du sujet, car toute cette actualité m’incite à vous parler d’un site d’un fort beau gabarit :

Le site de l’association “Ni claques ni fessées“

Je leur fais de la pub au passage, hop. Notez à l’arrivée sur le site ce merveilleux tableau de Jean Bruegel de 1560, “Les Jeux d’enfants“. Tableau qui me rappelle, allez savoir pourquoi, “Le Massacre de la Saint Barthélemy” de François Dubois. Mais ce n’est pas le sujet.

Ce beau site, chers lecteurs, propose de découvrir l’éducation sans violence, en arrêtant les châtiments corporels sur nos bons chérubins. Alors, nous n’allons pas ici débattre de la fessée ou non, de la bonne claque dans la gueule ou pas, mais plutôt de ce site et du fond. Car, que vous le croyiez ou non, sachez qu’il y a de terribles conséquences à coller un pan sur le cul des bambins. Cliquons ensemble sur le premier lien “Pourquoi supprimer les fessées ?“

La fin des fessées risque de faire des malheureux

C’est vrai ça, pourquoi ?

Et bien, mesdames messieurs, sachez que c’est la science qui le dit ! Preuve en est, nous trouvons sur le site cette affirmation bien mystérieuse  :

“Romain, j’en ai assez, couche-toi ou tu vas avoir ta fessée” dit la maman,

mais en aparté elle confie

“il lui faut sa fessée tous les soirs sinon il ne veut pas se coucher”.

Comme nous le voyons ici, les fessées n’ont aucune efficacité à long terme puisqu’il faut redonner chaque soir la fessée

Effectivement. En sortant un exemple unique de nulle part, on peut tout de suite en tirer des conclusions sur le fait qu’une bonne fessée est inefficace. Du coup, moi aussi je veux jouer :

“Romain, j’en ai assez, couche-toi ou je te marave la gueule avec un parpaing” dit la maman

mais en aparté, elle confie

“Depuis que je le lui ai éclaté le nez avec ce bel objet de maçonnerie, il est drôlement plus obéissant”.

Comme nous le voyons ici, le parpainguage d’enfants est une méthode efficace sur le long terme.

Comme quoi, affirmer n’importe quoi, c’est vraiment formidable. Heureusement, le paragraphe suivant vient à notre secours pour mieux comprendre pourquoi les parents battent leurs enfants. Là encore, voilà qui donne envie de se poser les poings fermés sur les hanches en s’exclamant très fort “Ha bin oui, hé, pourquoi ?“

Pas de panique, le site répond à cette interrogation :

Beaucoup de parents ne sont pas instruits des possibilités de leur enfant en fonction de son âge. Ils auront alors des exigences que l’enfant sera incapable de satisfaire.

Par exemple, trop souvent, on demande à Mattéo, 4 ans, de bien vouloir garer la R19 dans le garage familial. Et jamais il ne le fait, ou pire, il abîme le véhicule ! Aussi, ses parents lui mettent une fessée pour avoir endommagé les enjoliveurs en alu neufs de papa. Un bel exemple de parents qui fessent leur progéniture par manque d’instruction sur les possibilités de leur enfant. On nous explique que plus loin, on va nous enseigner les bons réflexes pour mieux communiquer avec l’enfant. Que je suis impatient !  Cependant, à titre indicatif, on nous rassure :

Portons un autre regard sur l’enfant. Aucun enfant ne naît méchant, agressif, diabolique, démoniaque, pervers ou chargé d’un péché originel.

Que nenni, le Président de la République a affirmé le contraire, en expliquant que tout cela, c’était dans les gênes. D’ailleurs, qui mieux que lui pourrait affirmer que l’on peut naître méchant agressif, diabolique, démoniaque et pervers ? (Mais pas porteur du péché originel, ça ce sont les filles, c’est le pape qui l’a dit).

En tout cas, sur le site, on a bien des hobbies de pervers, preuve en est quelques lignes plus bas avec cette maxime :

Il est très amusant d’écrire sur une feuille de papier la liste des comportements de notre enfant qui nous ont irrité suffisamment pour que l’envie nous soit venue de le corriger.

Ho oui, que cela est amusant ! Cela occupe tous nos dimanches après-midi avec nos amis de la paroisse, entre deux parties de bingo ! Pour compléter ce fabuleux passe-temps, on peut l’étendre :

Et puis de faire le même petit travail par rapport à d’autres membres de notre entourage, le conjoint, la belle-mère, le collègue, la voisine… On découvre alors avec stupéfaction que ce sont souvent les mêmes problèmes qui se manifestent, mais qui sont résolus différemment suivant qu’ils sont posés par l’enfant ou par l’adulte.

Oui tu m’étonnes. Régulièrement, je constate en riant que ma femme, tout comme ma fille d’un an et demi, écrit sur les murs et joue avec son caca ; dans le même temps, ma fille tout comme ma femme claque mon argent dans des chaussures moches et couche avec mon voisin. Effectivement, cet exercice m’a permis de découvrir bien des choses ! Merci, Ni claques ni fessées !

Ni claque, ni fessée, surtout lorsque l'enfant a un M-16

Maintenant que nous savons pourquoi des parents battent leurs enfants, découvrons ensemble la catégorie suivante :

Les “Preuves de la nocivité des fessées“

En effet, messieurs dames, les fessées sont nocives, et grâce à la science, tout cela a été prouvé avec force exemples. On nous annonce d’entrée de jeu que les fessées augmentent d’ailleurs “les risques de conduites agressives, de dépression, de tendances suicidaires, d’abus de drogues, de manifestations anti-sociales diverses pouvant aller jusqu’à l’homicide.“. Ho !

Pour commencer, sachez que “deux enfants meurent chaque jour en France à la suite des mauvais traitements de leur entourage”. Et on nous explique que par exemple, à force de les tabasser voire de les cogner contre les radiateurs, les conséquences sont néfastes. Attendez, à quel moment est on passé de la fessée/claque au mauvais traitement ? Mystère, le site ne distinguant aucune nuance entre un pan sur le cul et une branlée d’anthologie à coups de batte de base-ball, ou encore avec les “bébés secoués“. Rappellons que ces traitements sont eux punis par la loi, justement car dangereux, ce que le site semble mystérieusement oublier, assimilant le tout dans un immense gloubiboulga. Mais attention, on ne s’arrête pas là !

Effectivement, bien souvent en voiture, on subit un flashback d’une tannée reçue étant jeune, et hop, sortie de route. Il y aurait donc un lien entre les fessées et les accidents de la route (vu qu’on regarde le flashback au lieu de se concentrer sur la signalisation routière). C’est un peu osé, non ? Non, nous dit on, puisque l’étude est très sérieuse. Sérieuse, oui, car on imagine bien l’accidenté sur son brancard aux urgences :

Bref, il y a un lien visible, nous dit on. Comme tout cela est intriguant. En tout cas, tout cela est suivi d’études sur les enfants battus, toujours dans le plus pur style “Il n’y a pas de nuance entre une fessée un jour et un enfant battu“.

De plus en plus fort, on explique que les enfants ayant subi des châtiments corporels tournent souvent mal, comme par exemple (on sent le hasard des choix sur le site) : Hitler, Staline ou encore Saddam Hussein. Parents, attention : la fessée entraine une poussée de moustache et d’envies de conquêtes. Par ailleurs, nous venons de franchir en l’instant le Point Godwin, ce qui sur un site d’association visant à éduquer sans violence, est tout de même assez fort. Chapeau les gars.

Un peu plus loin encore, nous apprenons que les sociétés non-violentes n’ont pas recours à la violence. Intéressant. Ou encore que les Justes, durant la seconde guerre mondiale, avaient “pratiquement tous” eu une éducation sans violence. On en déduit donc par corolaire qu’après Hitler, voici la fessée qui transforme vos enfants en nazis !

Cette partie s’achève sur un paragraphe tout à fait superbe :

Et cependant, si les troubles du comportement engendrés par les punitions corporelles sont indiscutables, beaucoup de gens disent “j’ai été battu, je ne m’en porte pas plus mal”. Parce que lorsqu’arrivent dépression, alcoolisme, toxicomanie, délinquance, accidents, maladie… aucun ne fait le rapprochement avec son passé.

L’argument ultime : déjà, le site n’hésite pas à affirmer que ce qu’il dit est “indiscutable“, comme ça, c’est réglé, et enchaîne avec “et ceux qui disent le contraire sombreront dans la drogue et l’alcool et seront trop bêtes pour faire le rapport avec ce que nous révélons ici“. Ha oui, rien que ça ? Dites donc.

La catégorie suivante, “Comment agissent les fessées” ne nous intéressera que peu, puisque cela reprend ce qui a été dit auparavant. Cependant, on notera le paragraphe suivant sur les manières d’évacuer sa colère sans frapper l’enfant :

Certaines familles utilisent avec bonheur le “coussin de colère” ou le putching ball sur lequel on va taper lorsqu’on sent une grosse colère monter, que l’on soit enfant ou parent. Une fois la violence physique déversée, un dialogue peut plus facilement s’instaurer.

Notez déjà le “avec bonheur” ; on imagine le célèbre “Chic alors, le coussin de la colère !” de toute une famille voyant arriver ce splendide outil en sa maison. Dans le même temps, j’avoue être perplexe sur l’impact psychologique de ce dernier. Car plutôt que d’apprendre à se calmer tout seul pour dialoguer il permet de signifier à tout le monde son énervement. Exemple :

Je ne vois pas trop la logique bénéfique dans l’idée du “Quand je suis énervé, il faut frapper”. Mais si c’est “avec bonheur“, alors…

Pour le reste, je vous laisse découvrir par vous-même.

Brièvement, dans la catégorie suivante “Qui s’oppose aux fessées ?“, on nous cite François Dolto en exemple, qui, pour rappel, engendra Carlos. Ce qui en soi, est déjà une excellente raison de fesser son enfant sur le champ pour éviter qu’il ne finisse obèse à chanter “Big bisou“.

On oublie les fessées, et voilà ce que ça donne

Allons enfin sur la dernière catégorie qui nous intéresse “Sans fesser, comment faire ?“

(vous pouvez visiter les autres après, ce n’est pas mon problème, hein)

Et bien pour éduquer votre enfant sans fessées, il faut établir des règles (ho !) et savoir dire non (diantre !). Le site d’ailleurs, pour des raisons qui m’intriguent, utilise de nombreux exemples moralisants sur ce qu’est une vraie belle famille (avec une marraine et beaucoup de relations avec la grand-mère à qui il faut rendre visite et faire plaisir en lui achetant des fleurs).  Par ailleurs, comble de l’ironie, les propos tenus en cette dernière catégorie appuient bien l’importance de la nuance entre “la fessée” et “ne rien faire“, en expliquant bien qu’entre les deux, il y a l’éducation, et qu’il ne faut pas tout confondre avec du laxisme.

Ha oui, de la nuance ? Comme celle qui distingue un pied au cul d’un enfant battu ?

Pour conclure, un bien beau site. Et peut-être bientôt une bien belle loi ? En tout cas, si elle ne passe pas, j’espère qu’Edwige Antier n’ira pas se défouler sur un coussin de la colère en pleine assemblée.

Ce serait faire l’apologie de la violence. Quel exemple pour nos enfants.

This is a little note, a little about Goi (who’s in the shower right now).

To those of us who’ve ever fallen in love (and maybe even fallen out of), we know what that feels like. It’s exactly like that cliche metaphor, as crazy as a rollercoaster ride. My best friend commented and I concurred that romantic relationships lead us to the whole gamut of emotions. Because that other person means so much to you, he/she is capable of bringing you extreme sadness, or extreme happiness. No matter how detached you are, that’s the way relationships work. Your other half – the moiety that completes you.

I didn’t think I’d ever feel complete again. For a while I was getting used to being alone. I became so good at being single that I actually relished the uniqueness of buying tickets singly and watching good shows alone. It didn’t bother me that everyone else had someone else’s hand to hold.

Ok, I was kidding. This isn’t a note about Goi. This is a note about what he means to me.

I didn’t think I’d ever be this happy again. But he made it happen, and has been making it happen from our second date onwards. He dotes on me so much it just… I don’t know. I’m someone who believes in karma. The way life has been these days, I must have done something right the past couple of years. To deserve this bliss. To have him shield me, care for me, love me this way.

It began after I asked and we counted which date we were on. It kinda also started on our third date, when I complained that I’ve asked him out thrice and he hasn’t asked me out even once. Turns out Ni kept a .txt file and recorded stuffs about me, including dates I suppose. We continued where he left off, using google docs.

It’s called Ni and Baby’s Master File.

To-Dos
We have a list of to-dos, written by either of us or us jointly. We track the status of our to-dos. To date, there are 69 items on our list, of which 27 has been accomplished. Some of the accomplished to-dos are “Bring Baby to Rider’s Cafe”, “Watch Zoolander”, “Meet Ni’s grandma”, “Bring Baby to her favourite hokkien mee on Simon Road”, “Break into RJ old compound and stargaze”. Some of the pending to-dos are “Take Cody to Tavistock Park for a walk”, “Make Tiramisu”, “Meet Dean” (Ni’s bestie, who is in China), “Smooch through a new year’s countdown”, “Slow dance in a crowd”, “Marriage Proposal”.

Timeline
Yesterday was our 56th date. Ni came over and nua-ed. On our 44th date we had bak kut teh at Balestier, then we watched Matrix. On our 37th date we tried cooking basil pesto pasta (Ni’s favourite pasta). On the 31st I surprised Ni at his office and fetched him home from work. On our 28th, Ni fetched me from work, we ran 7km together, and then went to AMK hub to get KOI bubble tea. On the 26th we slept and woke up to each other the next day. On the 11th, we got together officially. On the 0th, which was 29 Nov 08, we had dinner at Sushi Teh at Serangoon Gardens and were thinking each other was snobbish.

Travel 27 Nov 09
Budgeting and details for our Bali trip, such as flight info. Total budget for Bali for 2 is SGD1,429 Also a tracker for expenses already paid for, by whom, and whether payee has been reimbursed.

Ni did something today that made me remember the past many guys who’ve done the same thing to me initially and gone on to do worse.

A part of me thinks I’m over-reacting.

A part of me is panicking. That faithless part.

If you flip the coin a hundred times, and every time it lands on tails, would you think the coin is biased?

If the first man says A, then says B,

and the second man that comes along says A, then says B,

and the third man that follows says A, then says B.

What do you think the fourth man will say, after saying A?

After rwinds pract on Saturday, Ni came to fetch me, we were headed out to dinner at curry wok. The moment I hopped into the car I was told to close eyes. Why? I’ve got a surprise for you. Don’t open your eyes k. Ok.

Lean forward.

And so I did.

I felt something hook onto my ears and rest lightly on bridge of my nose.

Open your eyes.

OK.

Oh man…

A week or so ago, we were shopping in town, I think it was for a shirt for Ni. So in Takashimaya, I went into Coach and was looking at all the bags and nice stuffs. Walked past the sunglasses section. Picked up this pink/maroon pair and tried it on. We realized it looked really good on me. Or rather, I look really good with it.

And so that was my first surprise from my honey.

It wasn’t how much the shades cost. It’s the fact that Ni’s so frugal. And what really got me was what he said as I was grinning and squealing – I like seeing you this happy.

Went to a little talk at the Ulster Hall on Tuesday 3rd Nov, regarding the NI Design Alliance, and as the name discloses, it regards the alliance between designers. “The creative and cultural skills has been working with designers to establish a NI Design Alliance with the vision of promoting professional standards and developing skills that will keep NI design a step ahead in global markets.” (This was taken from a little extract advertising some design events such as OFFSET and Airside etc)

Back to the topic of conversation, Johnathan Sands chairman of the international brand design consultancy “Elmwood” (click here to visit the site) gave a presentation at this event. It was fascinating, he was talking about his belief on how skills are important based on his experience, and how designers should share and not keep their methods bottled up as this limits the market and industry. So the moral of the story is to be nice and share, and join the NI designer alliance as we designers need to stick together!!
