Canibus teamed up with Eminem’s former rap group, D12, to take shots at the Detroit rapper, Marshall “Eminem” Mathers. The Jamaican born rapper, Canibus, seems to be carrying on the beef that started in 1998 when he though Marshall had ghost-wrote a diss record by LL Cool J. Since then there have been shots back and forth from both rappers. On this track he spits a few harsh line like “You pushed D12 to the side to sign Volton 5, if Proof was alive he’d b dyin inside , you aint no hiphop messiah, you a bitch cause you dissed Mariah..”. The D12 members seem to be bitter about being ditched by Eminem and got a bit personal, mentioning his step-dad and his previous drug problem. They also claim that Marshall had fallen off and wasn’t a good enough rapper. We’ll have to wait for a response and see if Slim Shady still got tricks up his sleeves. I bet Mariah & Nick Cannon have this track on repeat!!

A celebrity is a famous person. A famous person is one who has a widespread reputation usually of a favorable nature. A star is a person who is celebrated or distinguished in some art, profession, or other field… So – some may ask – how is it that an increasing number of “celebrities”, who possess no discernable talent, manage to obtain a lavish lifestyle of the rich and famous? Millions of people who are even vaguely familiar with pop culture are perplexed by the heightened celebrity status bestowed upon those whose fame stems from activities once considered obscure, vulgar, or unflinchingly trifling – and completely devoid of what is commonly referred to as talent.

One wonders if 25 years ago or more, talent agencies would’ve considered taking on clients who offered no on-screen talent or training whatsoever, instead, relying on tawdry marketing strategies to ensure notoriety. For example, game shows contestants stayed in their respective lanes, and the only place you may find a former contestant was in your local mall or supermarket. Now, these contestants and other ‘non-scripted’ show participants seek to use their 15 minutes as a portal to create a whole freakin’ hour.

Sex sells for men and women alike, but for 99% of female celebs, sex appeal has always been paramount. Upon reflection however, those whose roots originated in (and failed to deviate from) X-rated activities, thrived in their own genre. Nowadays, it appears as though the lines are blurred, and women who would’ve reigned freely within the confines of the adult entertainment world are able to carve out tenuous careers in the mainstream. On the other end of the spectrum exist “the awkward” bunch who are willing to exploit their own eccentricities for the sake of prolonged media attention.

What fuels this phenomenon? Is it an insatiable need for attention? The media’s habit of nurturing the sensational rather than the substantive? The jury is still out on this convoluted debate. So we took a survey, which lists alleged “no talent” notables that receive far too much air time. Each of the celebs listed below falls under one or more of the following categories: pornographic; general opportunist; nepotism; gimmick. Take a guess as to who’s who in each category:

As an online magazine, we are aware that new media is a major factor in the rise of the 15 minute famous set. The bigger issue at hand is the long-term impact this new trend will have on our society. What happens when newscasts become gossip – or scandal trumps talent and cheapness obliterates creativity? For starters, it may manifest in two media-crazed parents staging a hoax involving their missing son weather balloon…

No matter how you slice it, the fact is that a good deal of these so called ‘skill-free’ stars not only permeate the media, but have an avid fan base to boot. At the end of the day, that may be all it takes to be on top. Either that or one damn good publicist.

The feud between Mariah Carey and rapper Eminem continues to unfold and Carey seemed to hold back no punches this time around when she recently appeared on The Late Night Show With David Letterman.

Referring to the Detroit native as a rejected boy, the singer stated that Eminem is the boy that is really in love with a girl, but is unable to have her.  The result must be for him to lash out and have temper tantrums.

Everything went downhill back when Em dropped Relapse back in May.  The album featured a song titled “Bagpipes from Baghdad” where Shady gave his perspective on the relationship between Carey and her man Nick Cannon.

His backlash was heavy as Cannon seemed to want to step up for his woman and almost resorted to a physical altercation with Slim, but Carey “handled” the issue with “Obsessed.”

When asked about the track “Obsessed” on Letterman, which seems to make a clear cut story of Eminem being overly consumed with an alleged relationship that they had back in 2001, Carey continues to make the plea that there were no particular targets for the song.

“The song is not about anybody and yet it could be about anybody. You know? You never know.”

Slim Shady released “The Warning” earlier this summer where he threw shots at his former “lover” and basically gave her an ultimatum to keep her words for herself or face even further embarrassment from the hands of Mr. Mathers.

“I got the same exact tat that’s on Nick’s back/I’m obsessed now /Oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee?/Wow Mariah, didn’t expect you to go balls out/B*tch shut the f*ck up before I put all them phone calls out.”

Along with phone calls, the rapper also stated that he had pictures that he would be forced to leak if she was unaware to stop making reference of him.

With Relapse 2 over the horizon and Em continuing to shake his rap legs out, things may begin to heat up sooner than later.  A person only gets one warning.

An up and coming agent, Ms. Reilly (Sevigny), is brought on to a super secret, outside the government, project involving intense psychological tests on civilian volunteers.  As the volunteers begin getting killed off, Reilly has to ask herself if she can actually be a part of this kind of experiment.  Of course, her own life could depend on the answer to that question as well.

You find yourself in a white room with 3 other people, one of which has already been killed, and you’re being subjected to odd psychological tests.  What do you do?  Do you play along with the games?  Try to escape?  Or just do what everybody in these kinds of movies does:  get angry, argumentative, and violent?

So this movie goes.  There’s not much original here, even though there’s a surprising number of fairly highly respected actors involved.  I had to wonder what attracted them all to such a by the numbers script.  I guess it might have been the political angle at the end, but I won’t say any more about that.

I’m having trouble coming up with things to say about this movie because there’s nothing much interesting in it to talk about.  I guess I’d say it’s well made, in that it looks good and moves at a good pace.  There just weren’t many new or thought provoking ideas present.  Plus, the characters mumbled too much.  There were times when I couldn’t understand entire lines of dialogue.  That was very annoying.

The performances are fine, particularly Hutton and Sevigny, but there’s just not enough character development to get us rooting for or against any of them.  When it was over, I realized I had just watched it all with almost complete indifference towards the story and the characters.  Maybe it’s because of that indifference that the final message the movie delivers just seemed annoying rather than compelling.

The Killing Room is yet another variation on the Saw and Cube type of locked room horror film, but unlike a lot of it’s wannabes, this is one is executed perfectly. It has a great conceit, with a great script, director and a exemplary cast. It really makes you think and the film definitely has some shocking moments in the film. Liebsman is really blossoming into a great genre director, his first film Darkness Falls had a great idea but was ultimately flawed and from that he went on to Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, which is the far superior of the modern entire in that series. I aloes think the film is really helped by the anchor of Stormare as the main heavy and he always brings his A game to anything he does. This is a film that you discover more with each repeated viewing and it actually benefits the locked room genre rather than detract from it.
The plot basics are this, four disparate people meet in a stark white room. They have all agreed to be part of some psychological testing for monetary gain. They are all given a large questionnaire to gauge their psychological insight. Once they finish it the one in charge of the test, Dr. Phillips (Stormare) tells them that they will go through a rigorous series of psychological tests. He wants them to all come up with the same answer or there will be dire consequences. Phillips watches this all with rapt attention while boning up a new military scientist (Sevigny) on what he wants to achieve here. She is unsure what to make of his diabolical plans and has a crisis of conscience if she should go along with it or put an end to the charade. While the beleaguered people in the room are trying to work together and all survive intact. But, will that work or are they all doomed to failure?
This is a tense and tightly woven film. Liebsman direction is very claustrophobic and intense. He sets up the stage for what is to happen and then pulls the rug out from the viewer effortlessly. The script is very taut as well, you get feelings for all the characters and actually sympathize with most of them. There are many twists in the films that are shocking but really work well in the context of the film. The cast is great, Stormare is the high point of the film. He just exudes the oily used car salesman persona in this role and he is delightfully maniacal. Chloe Sevigny is great as the scientist who has moral dilemmas about what is happening right in front of her. What was really surprising was the great performance that Nick Cannon gave, this is miles above his horrible performance in the Day of the Dead remake. I did not even recognize him, he fit into his role that well. The SFX in the film is very good too, there is not a lot but what is displayed is used very well. This was a great film in the vein of Saw and Cube, but different enough to be it’s own beast.
This one gets 5 out of 5

In this week’s Sales Wrap, Michael Jackson returns to become the king once again, Jay-Z holds down Top 10 and new releases from Tech N9ne, Z-Ro, Triple C’s and more debut on the charts.

Proving his memory still carries on, the late Michael Jackson’s This Is It soundtrack managed to debut at No. 1 this week. According to Nielsen Soundscan, the iconic singer’s compilation disc moved 373,800 records after seven days in stores.

Grammy-winning rapper Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 3 took a slight six-position dip but managed to land at No. 10 with 40,700. After two months on store shelves, Hovi’s 11th number one album has sold 1,200,100 pieces to date.

Pop group Black Eyed Peas‘ E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies) fell out of the Top 10 moving downward seven slots to No. 13 with 30,200. With 21 weeks to their names, the group’s latest offering has secured 1,300,000 sold discs.

Rap veteran Tech N9ne’s K.O.D. debuted onto the charts this week securing a spot at No. 14. Tech’s new album was able to push out 29,900 records after seven days in stores.

R&B singer Brian McKnight made his return to store shelves as Evolution Of A Man opened at No. 20. Headed into just his second week, the singer’s latest effort has generated 24,400 sold discs.

Award-winning singer Whitney Houston’s I Look To You dropped ten spots to No. 30 with 15,200. After nine weeks in the books, the singer’s comeback album rests at 765,500 secured units.

Renowned singer Mariah Carey’s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel took a slight hit dropping 17 slots to No. 31 with 14,900. Nick Cannon’s wife has been able to move 290,400 records after five weeks in stores.

Young Money’s Drake has taken a hit, too, as So Far Gone dropped 14 positions to No. 37 with 13,300. After seven weeks, the rap newcomer’s retail re-release rests at 210,700.

Rick Ross and Triple C’s Custom Cars & Cycles got off to a rough start this week debuting at No. 44. With seven days in the books, the group’s debut Def Jam release has sold 12,100 records.

Singer Trey Songz’s Ready evens things out in Top 50 by dropping 12 slots to No. 49 with 11,300. After nine weeks on the charts, the singer’s new album has moved 294,200 pieces.

The late Michael Jackson compilation disc, Selections From Michael Jackson, also debuted onto the charts at No. 91 with 6,100 sold records in its first week.

Canadian hip-hop group Swollen Members‘ Armed To The Teeth debuted at No. 146 this week moving a total of 3,500 records after seven days on store shelves.

Texas rapper Z-Ro’s Cocaine also debuted onto the charts landing at No. 147 with 3,500 pieces to his name heading into week two.
