A girl (let’s call her Alex) has a dilemma.  Every day she must walk to get to work.  She lives in Dublin, where it rains.  A lot.  And so the girl mostly wears her patent leather Gareth Pugh inspired Nike ID trainers pictured below (complete with nerd alert slogan across the top – hey come on, I need all the positive reinforcement I can get!).

The girl was sick and tired of feeling underdressed.  When she read Garance’s blog about needing flat shoes for walking she said AMEN GARANCE!!  She desperately wanted to wear heels more than just on the weekend, especially considering she had so many fabulous pairs, from brown leather boots with zips and a four inch heel, to new black mesh and leather shoe boots, and everything in between.  Like these:

But the girl knew she would be crippled if she tried to walk to work in these shoes and more importantly she would be an hour late and would lose her job.  Sometimes she brought her heels with her but there aren’t many trousers that go with both heels and boots, and so more and more often the girl wore her trainers and was sad inside all day.

The girl had no solution to her dilemma and so she posted a blog about it, hoping that someone somewhere would come along with a magical solution.  She knew in her heart of hearts that it was unlikely but she was hopeful.  And what is fashion if not the triumph of hope over practicality?

We present to you another cool application for iphones and ipods, and this time it’s from NikeiD. Sweeeeet! This app allows you to design your very own sneakers right in the palm of your hands. All you have to do is take a picture of something you’re inspired by, or use photo that you already have in your phone, and the NikeiD app will do the rest!  After you select your photo, shake your iphone/ipod, and then the app will give you a bunch of different color variations to choose from. Then from there you shoot over to the color picker, where you select two colors for your customization and then throw it in the “myLOCKER” option then pick it, pack it, and post it. Once you’re satisfied with your shoe creation then head over to “Personal iD” to add your own design or graphic ( put your personal touch on them thangs). Then you’re finito, and you can throw it the bag or your locker.

We think the new NikeID programme is pretty cool – customisation of clothing is always good. We then started thinking about what Baby’s customised Nike trainers would look like… and then we came across this:

This sculpture of a Nike Air is made entirely from consumer waste. It acually looks pretty wearable, but it might be a bit heavy. We want Nike to open up their customisation enough for us to turn this into a reality…

You can create Nike Id designs on your iPhone, save them, & even order from your phone now! If you have an iPhone this is a must have! I just downloaded & have not put it down since lol. Its free & will give you hours of new fun if you like to create shoes!

NIKE’s released this new iPhone app earlier this month. You can actually extract color combinations from any photo and place them on a design of your choice! I’m guessing it’s expensive, but can you really put a price on a pair of rainbow shoes?? Worth it.

The Nike Blazer is a shoe that is one of the most all-time favorite amongst the Nike family with consumers.  Now Nike has made it so that the average joe can customize their own pair. I have created my own butter colorway as you can see.

One Nike iD that has been in anticipation of it’s return is the Air Max 1 iD. With dates of the return scheduled for June, than moved to September, Air Max 1 fans have been befuddled to say the least. Well, rejoice as I have the scoop on the date, new premium materials, shape and why the delay.

Customization is a key way to define your individuality within your own wardrobe. A monogram on a dress shirt, luggage, or tote bag is a common way people choose to customize their accessories; the L.L. Bean Tote is a classic example! I personally prefer a monogram on a more obscure item like a bikini bottom or denim pocket, but tote bags can be fun too and remind me of Nantucket! But certain brands elevated customization to the next level buy allowing more substantial items to be color-coordinated and branded, like sneakers! 

I am almost positive the trend really began with the launch of Nike iD years back. And for athletes, hipsters and really active people I can assure it was awesome to be able to create your own soccer cleats or Air Jordans. But since New Balance are my active sneakers of choice, Nike iD was never anything I tampered with. My 21 year-old nephew on the other hand, can stare at this website and get lost in seconds! I was recently introduced to Converse’s version of customization, Converse One, and my excitement level clearly rose instantly. You could never possibly have enough Chuck Taylor All Stars and you can also create unique pairs of their other styles including Jack Purcells and One Stars.

My fiance discovered the website, I have no idea what took him so long considering he lives in Converse and PF Flyers, but when he did, he was hooked and sucked me in along with him. The process is quite simple but the options are limitless which makes moving on definitively from one section of the shoe to the next almost impossible. You simply choose the available shoe you would like to design: classics, skate, basketball, etc, high-tops or low-tops, leather, canvas or suede. Depending on your particular shoe selection, various parts of the shoe design can be colorized and eventually ID’d.

Let’s use the classic Chuck Taylor All Star high-top as an example. First you choose the material, like leather. Then the website presents you with a blank canvas and your imagination can run wild from there. Starting with the Outer Body, you are given color swatches to choose from and as you click on each color it will paint the shoe so you can begin to build the foundation.

Then you move on to the rest of the shoe components like the tongue, rubber sidewall, the laces and even the racing stripe! This part could take hours, I can’t even guess how many color combinations there are; it can be overwhelming to the point of being frozen with indecisiveness, but you must choose and move on! (if you have decision anxiety like I do, you can save your designs and come back to them later)

So you get the idea. As a very late and fun way to celebrate our engagement period, and to add variety to my current collection, I received my first pair of custom Chucks in the beginning of the summer to represent the time between my current name and future married name. He designed a funky pair of canvas All Star low-tops in bright summer colors and branded them with my current and future initials. I’m officially taken!

I have already considered ordering a pair of metallic silver sneakers to wear to my wedding after-party or maybe the wedding reception itself if I feel the need to ditch the heels! This time instead of initials, the wedding date may be a nice touch! What better souvenir, who needs a bouquet of dried flowers?!

So I made two pairs of NikeID Dunks. I was always a fan of the Money Cat or Lucky Cat SB series, but I wanted something different. I decided to make the Money Cat Mids and High Tops on the low dunks. I really dig the white pair, but I am indecisive about the black pair.

Welcome to Week One of D’s Adventures in Funemployment: Am I Dreaming? We’re three days in and I’ve got to tell you it’s rather surreal. I find myself asking Paddington at least once a day, “Is this really happening?” to which he replies by jumping on my lap and biting my elbows or standing on the keyboard with his butt in my face. Clearly, he’s confused as well. Or maybe he’s trying to tell me something, but eventually he gives up and takes a nap. Sounds about right, no?

The accomplishment of the week has been securing an interview, and also going to the gym every morning. The unexpected twist seems to be writers block. Can you tell?

There’s a point in every day where I cannot stop fidgeting in my chair and my work on the computer has spiraled into an online shopping fantasy of what I can’t buy. Yesterday I designed a really fantastic pair of Nike IDs. I’ve also picked out a new desk chair. I cased the merchandise on Pearl Art Supply’s website in preparation for my foray into a new creative outlet: painting. I’m a little nervous given that I have led several people to believe that I might actually be good at painting, but this confidence is solely-based on several portraits I painted of Care Bears when I was about six and many hours watching David Bromstad paint on Color Splash. We’ll see how it goes. I promise pictures.

I am excited to present this one to you, this is the official place to hear the exclusive ‘Energize’, Thy Maryan is an up and coming producer, most known for producing for G-FrSH (tracks such as Do It and Urgh).

As artists struggle to breakthrough in this country, we forget that producers too face similar difficulties, seriously a producer of Thy Maryan’s ability should be far more in demand and recognizable than he currently is, his versatility means his level of creativity has no boundaries, all his songs will not sound the same, but one thing is for sure..they will sound good.

Energize, an up-tempo number, with chart climbing potential, Thy’s arrangement of the pacey melody blends nicely with the varying beat pattern, these variations help keep the track flowing (allowing this kind of variation prevents the track from becoming repetative), as the focus remains on Thy Maryan it would not be fair to comment on the vocals, although I will bring you more on that soon. Thy Maryan for me is one those producers who understands music and understands the fine line between making what they (the producer) like and what the audiences like to hear, that understanding allows him to create something like Energize, a track that conforms to what the audience likes to hear yet stands out as unique, like a pair of Nike iDs, the shape is the same, but the colour, contrast and detail is one of a kind, That is what Thy Maryan brings to producing with Energize to add to his collection.

Without a doubt, Thy Maryan possesses the ability to be one of the most successful producers from the UK, with a sound that appeals to a global audience, expect to read more reviews as I expect to hear more hits from the FrSH producer.
