O serviço será oferecido aos consumidores ao longo do ano, inicialmente pelo Nokia N97, ou pela web, no endereço da loja: store.ovi.com .

Por enquanto, quem quiser acessar a loja em inglês através de 100 modelos diferente, sendo necessário o uso de cartão de crédito internacional para poder comprar os aplicativos, entre jogos, vídeo e podcasts e serviços web, entre outros.

La noticia bomba de la semana:  la decisión de Telia Sonera de vender Yoigo, su operador móvil en España

La puesta en venta de Yoigo (el cuarto operador de telefonía móvil), por parte de su dueño, la sueco TeliaSonera, ha sido un auténtico aldabonazo en el mercado español que deja en paños menores a muchos que creían en el mito de que este mercado era Jauja y que no había suficiente competencia. Pues no. El mito no es tal y el emperador está realmente desnudo.

Personalmente me ha sentado como un jarro de agua fria, ya que es el operador por el que llevo apostando desde su lanzamiento comercial. Hacen las cosas bien, tienen un buen posicionamiento, son buenos en el trato, buenas tarifas, buen servicio… el pero está en que salieron al mercado demasiado tarde, justo con el boom de los Operadores Móviles Virtuales; es un hecho que la mayoría de los consumidores, e incluso gente especializada, piensa que Yoigo es un OMV, cuando esto no es así (n-ésima vez: opera con la licencia UMTS que el Estado otorgó a Xfera Móviles!).

Aunque el lazo que tilda de luto el anuncio, sin lugar a duda viene dado por el  “interés que France Telecom (Orange) pone sobre la mesa” (viene de la semana 48).

¡Maldita sea mi estampa, pardiez!, ¿de nuevo los gestores españoles de Orange van a repetir la misma operación que tan malas consecuencias les trae una vez tras otra?. Esto da para un post completo, y no es la ocasión, tan solo decir que una vez más, parece que la única forma que los gestores de France Telecom España encuentran para crecer, es abduciendo a algún competidor. No, no se distinguen en servicios, en atención al cliente, en excelencia en la gestión, en servicios novedosos, en la diferenciación respecto a la competencia, en un posicionamiento de nicho, no. No saben qué significa crecer orgánicamente, porque un arbol “con el gusano cabezudo (Capnodis tenebrionis) viviendo en su interior y chupando su sabia”, es incapaz de crecer; o se coge a tiempo se le aplica un duro tratamiento de choque, o el árbol termina secándose y muriendo, y esto le pasa a Orange, que tiene demasiados “gusanos cabezudos” que atenazan su supervivencia. Qué pena.

Sin embargo, la posible compra tendría muchas aristas desde el punto de vista legal. El pliego de condiciones del concurso por el que se adjudicaron las licencias UMTS a Yoigo, Movistar, Vodafone y Orange, en el año 2000, establecía en la cláusula 29, referente a la transmisión de las licencias, que “en ningún caso, podrá adquirir la licencia quien ya fuera titular de una de ellas o controlase efectivamente la entidad titular”.

Otros culebrones que llevamos viviendo en estas últimas semanas:

- Yahoo: tras los ligoteos con Microsoft, parece que surge un tercero en discordia,  Jonathan Miller, antiguo CEO de AOL que podría estar interesado en su compra, ¿tanto dinero puede llegar a tener una persona?.

- VMWare – virtualización: igual que hace un par de meses comentaba la abundancia de noticias con “el color verde” en los titulares, noticias sobre tecnología respetuosa con el medio ambiente, eficiente, etc., llevamos unas semanas donde la moda es la “virtualización de servidores”, a través de tecnología VMWare, sobre todo.
La verdad es que nosotros llevamos ya un año detrás de la pista de la virtualización, desde que en enero del año pasado asistiésemos a unas jornadas en el IE al respecto.

A mediados de Octubre, Gartner publicaba su listado de las 10 tecnologías estratégicas para el 2009, y la virtualización estaba en el número 1. No sabemos qué fue primero, si el huevo o la gallina, si ahora todo el mundo habla de virtualización porque Gartner lo dijo, o si realmente, Gartner lo dijo porque realmente son unos visionarios, y se anticiparon correctamente al mercado… eterno dilema.

En fin, ya queda poco para cerrar el año. Pondremos un lazo negro en señal de luto por Yoigo; a partir de ahora, volveré a ser abanderado de Symio…

Flash is around the corner for Google’s G1 and Nokia’s Symbian smart phones; Flash on Blackberries likely coming as well; Apple continues its apathy towards Adobe

The best selling phone in America, Apple’s iPhone, could be the last of the smartphones to get Flash.  At a slew of press events over the last few days, Adobe unveiled a new version of mobile version of Flash – a leaner, faster, smart phone-aimed version of Flash 10.  The new version is optimized for ARM processors like the one used in the iPhone.

Any smartphone with a 200 MHz or better processor and 16 MB of RAM should be able to run the new version of Flash, opening many phones up to the software.  A “completely capable [Web] browser” is also required, implying support of typical standards.

Previously, Flash was only available on a few smartphones via Flash Lite, a greatly stripped down version of the software.  TheNokia N-series has it, and Verizon’s LG EnV2 uses it to animate its home screen.  However, when it comes to Flash, most users are in the dark.  Thanks to a partnership with Qualcomm and ARM, Adobe plans to turn on a more full-featured version of Flash for many new users.

The new version will be available for phones running Symbian, Android, and Windows Mobile, among other platforms.  Qualcomm BREW feature phones, such as the LG Voyager andSamsung Delve will also support the new product.  Steve Sprigg, Qualcomm SVP of engineering states, “We’ve integrated the tech in a way that allows a Flash developer to author a full-blown app for the BREW mobile platform … and they haven’t written any [additional] code.”

Google’s G1 and future Android smartphones will likely soon be getting the update, either over the air or in Google’s store, although no official release date has been announced.  Flash was demoed fully working on a T-Mobile G1 phone, though.  Adobe’s Anup Muraka adds, “It’s our belief that you’ll see an Android-based version of Flash in the coming months.  We’ve talked previously about Microsoft licensing Flash for use in Windows Mobile. We’ve been working closely with Nokia on getting it to work on the Symbian platform.”

Mr. Muraka added that Adobe is in talks with Research In Motion about bringing Flash to Blackberries.

The addition will open up a new world of advertising possibilities for Google and others.  Flash apps will also be great asset as an animation and program platform tool.  Flash games or tools could be developed for smartphones, a seemingly intuitive match.

With all the Flash hoopla, the one party notably absent is Apple’s iPhone.  Continuing its tradition of blocking features its customers want, Apple has blasted Flash saying that it will not support it in the foreseeable future.  Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stated that Flash “performs too slow to be useful” on the iPhone.  Apple’s software developers’ agreement bans Flash by introducing a provision prohibiting third-party software from “launch[ing] other executable code”.  This bans interpreters like Flash.

It seems like Flash and the iPhone would be a logical fit, but Apple doesn’t think so.  Adobe has tried to woo Apple first with ARM-support upgrades and now with even more ARM-processor optimization.  The iPhone’s processor clearly can support Flash, and can support it well, but Apple remains obstinate in its refusal to adopt the technology.

Some in the iPhone rebel community have taken it upon themselves to release an underground version of Flash.  Belgian university consultant Thomas Joos has developed a multimedia toolkit for the iPhone that enables Flash Lite, a clear violation of Apple’s developer agreement.

As to things of an official nature, it appears Windows Mobile phones, Google’s phone(s), and RIM smartphones are finally on the verge of getting Flash.  And it looks like the iPhone may be the last one left out of the Flash party, due to its own decision not to come, despite numerous invitations.
