Somehow it took me quite a few months to get to Johannesburg’s ‘Old Biscuit Mill’ equivalent. The Neighbourgoods Market at 73 Juta Street, Braamfontein. As much as I would love to tell how I spent my Saturday morning surrounded by friends eating sweet treats and drinking frozen margaritas in the sun, I did this first exploration of the Neighbourgoods Market on my lonesome. Firstly because I am still trying to find those friends I really fit in with/find new friends at all! Secondly, AP was at work. Thirdly, when I was eternally single, I refused to let that stop me doing whatever it was I wanted to do. Now I am in a relationship but single in a different way, I am no longer surrounded by a group of ‘girl friends’ in the way I was before, so I decided that that wouldn’t stop me from doing what I want to do either. So I took me, myself and my camera to the Neighbourgoods Market. Here are some of the photos I took. It had a great vibe, slightly more space than the Biscuit Mill but somewhat less of the great variety of foodstuffs offered by Biscuit Mill. However it does have a brightly, sunny ‘deck’ area where you could (if you are not me in my current ‘limbo’ state) go and chill with friends and a craft beer or margarita and some yummy things to munch on. All in all it is definitely a great way to spend a Saturday morning/lunch time, massive group of friends or on your ace.

So I bought some cupcakes (which were AMAZING! And remember I am a baking addict, I have eaten and baked a lot of cupcakes in my time, these really were delicious) and a craft beer for AP – its called a ‘BoneCrusher’, which is an odd interesting name for beer, and seems to be very popular.

Those stairs lead to that sunny fabulous chilling area I mentioned earlier. Just incase you wanted to know.

Champagne and Oysters, anyone?

I went for a walk today down to the Old Port of Montreal with my camera and decided to recreate a photo that I took about 5 years ago that was lost when my computer got stolen. This particular photo is one of the variations from the original and also my favorite out of all the shots that I took today.

The ivy is making it’s journey up the tree. This is part of this years growth.

These beautiful flowers are by far my favourite. Blue is the colour of choice for me.

Here is another photo from earlier in the week. Just the trunk of a tree in a park that I pass through all of the time. For some reason all of the trees were getting my attention this week. Or maybe I’m just drawn to the color green!

These tulips are not only reflecting the sun they have leaned toward the sun!

Red and Yellow, such a pretty look to the tulips now!

I saw these leaves and I wondered about the unusual markings.
Not every leaf has white on it and the ones with white on a leaf is not the same amount. A lovely effect.

Sometimes the best pictures are right in front of your eyes. This is the tree just outside of my front balcony. Simple subjects often make the best pictures.

A close friend made me this paracord (parachute cord) writstband.

It seems to have survived quite a lot.

The art of photography, an art that has been commercialized to an almost invaluable extent.

When I was first introduced to a DSLR (Digital Single-Lens Reflex) camera and was given the opportunity to be involved in an art form I have never thought to purse, I was surprisingly disinterested.

I thought, this looks easy, and it doesn’t seem to involve much creativity. I was radically incorrect.

I was lucky enough to be around a group of creative minds who dabbled with all sorts of art forms, including photography. As a person who is easily attracted to new ways to be challengingly creative, naturally, I was ready to give photography a second chance with a new perspective. This was mainly due to my progressive exploration of different types of photography as I matured in my field, which is creative at its core.

Upon borrowing a friend’s Nikon D3100, I began to indulge in a new obsession, a new passion that I intend to pursue relentlessly, aiming to capture the essence of a moment in a timeless modern art form.

This is my first photograph, taken in my room. It is of a handmade wooden box, with a metallic lid, that I received as a gift from a friend’s trip to Thailand.

More of my “attempted” photography will be posted every now and then, as long as I deem them worthy of the Blogway.
