It was the same this time last year with Kanye West remixes we had so many of them that we couldn’t help but overlook them! This year Major Lazer have been the ones that the bedroom Dj’s are getting their claws into! The two remixes of Keep It Going Louder we here guess are a little above that level, the first coming from one half of the group former super taste make Diplo (Source: Club, Bass and Wine) and the second and far superior coming from the up and coming Germans So Shifty.

For the first 7.5 seconds of Major Lazer’s video for the dancehall-dub by way of Billboard Hot 100 fever dream that is “Keep it Goin’ Louder,” off this year’s Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do, all seems to be up to code with the Hip-hop Club Scene Video Cliche Mandate/Doctrine of 2004(that’s on the books, believe me), a bill that was authored and vehmently championed by the distinguished gentleman from New York, Cam’ron.

Ten seconds into the video, however, is a completely different story.  That story is one filled with human hybrid cartoon zombies and evil, gravity-defying cartoon blowfish dancing, nay REVELING, with their normal hip hop club counterparts as Switch, Diplo  and the crooning, auto-tuned, double trouble combo of Ricky Blaze and Nina Sky slowly melt minds.

This unholy (yet ridiculously stupid awesome) dance scene reaches a frenzy pitch just as Major Lazer himself saves the day and eviscerates all the cartoon zombie-dancehall human hybrids with his towering speakers of kalidescopic light and general bad-assery.

That description (which I’m surprised I could even write) doesn’t come close to the real thing.  Guns Don’t Kill People is my favorite party album of the year for a reason.

Major Lazer at Terminal 5, 10.10.09

We arrived at Terminal 5 for HARD before midnight to catch Major Lazer’s set. The whole time I was under the impression that it was just going to be a “DJ set” …but I was way off. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I turned to a friend and said “this is fucking crazy” or “this is insane!”

Terminal 5 was an absolute circus on and offstage. The crowd looked about ready for a rave, while the onstage dancers during Major Lazer’s set performed some of the most jaw dropping stage antics I’ve ever seen including, ladders, weightlifting, gold booty shorts and scandalous dance moves.

Diplo sans Switch represented Major Lazer, with special guests Nina Sky for Keep it Goin’ Louder and Santigold for Hold The Line. It was a solid 1 hour set show that went above and beyond any of my expectations.

Italian duo Bot and Phra aka Crookers slid right in after Diplo wrapped around 1 AM. Crookers’ set focused heavily on connecting with the crowd through the music and visual montages that rotated between Peter Cottontail, text, animation and footage of Crooker’s DJing live via the camera attached to the turn tables.

I’d seen Crookers DJ at Webster Hall with Annie Mac earlier this year but this was a much grander scale. I was greatly impressed yet again, left anticipating the full-length debut this January, titled Tons Of Friends. Spotted at HARD: M.I.A. and Trouble Andrew.

I almost forgot about this album.  Well, not really.  But it’s been a while since I listened to a song on this album that wasn’t remixed.  I didn’t really like this song at first.  I guess I was turned off by the autotune, but it grew on me after a couple rotations.  It’s really catchy.

This video features lots of zombie-lookin vampire creatures.  Just in time for the Halloween season!  Enjoy.
