This is actually cringe worthy. Maybe because her album isnt that bad and i used to intern at her label. I feel really bad for her, i heard shes now dropped from her label and career is on the ‘down-slope’

I just saw that Mercury Music Prize winner Speech Debelle has quit her label Big Dada (a subsidiary of Ninja Tune) due to them not having her prize winning album in shops since being awarded the prize.
“The Mercury Prize was on Tuesday, and on Friday there were no more physical albums in the shops,” she said.
“So, on the Mercury weekend, which would have been my biggest selling weekend, people couldn’t get it,”

A point of the Mercury Music Prize is to create a buzz, highlighting some of the records that generally get missed by the ‘mainstream’ media and general public, and to get the public into the shops with this increased profile that the awards generate.    It’s the record companies that submit albums to the Mercury Music Prize for consideration, so you think that Big Ninja Dada Tune would have a plan ready should their artist win?  Why bother with submitting the album if they weren’t gonna have a few records ready following the announcement of the award.  They should have the hotline to  the pressing plant as soon as they heard “…and the winner is Speech…”

In these days of record companies bitching about lack of sales, blah, blah, blah, you’d think they would take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity to recoup their costs, after all the work that’s been put into the recording.  Certainly wasn’t any promotion being done.

It pains me  to say it, ‘cos I do like Ninja Big Tune Dada and quite a bit of the stuff they release, but they are a bit sloppy when dealing with people that want to get hold of their product.  A month ago, I bought a Daedelus mp3 via their online Ninja shop. After they copped my money, I was expecting a link to download the track, like when you buy from Boomkat, Beatport etc. The link never appeared so I wrote to Ninja immediately to ask ‘what was up?, surely your not sending the mp3 in the post?’

They didn’t reply, not to the first, second, third, fourth or fifth emails.  (Hey Speech, maybe there is nobody at the office.)
It was only after I wrote to Daedelus direct, that I was able to get what I paid for, as he responded practically immediately.

Speech, good luck in your future endeavours, Daedelus, your a star, Big Ninja Tuna Dada..ahem,  you kinda losing it, and hence your artists, which are your life.

Update:  NInja have now sent me my paid-for goods.

Το 2004 ο Sixtoo υπογράφει στη δισκογραφική Ninja Tune και το “Chewing On Glass & Other Miracle Cures” είναι γεγονός. Layout καλλιτέχνημα για χειροφίλημα και περιεχόμενο σκοτεινό και σπαρταριστό. Όταν η hip hop μπλέκεται με την indie, τότε το αποτέλεσμα είναι λούπες αβανταδόρικες, ηλεκτρικές κιθάρες ξεκοιλιασμένες και drum machines με εμφανή την έλλειψη πλήκτρων. Μην αμελήσεις. Ο δίσκος μαμάει και δέρνει… 4/5!

Amon Tobin - Out From Out Where

Seguimos investigando cosas del productor brasileño. Éste LP es el siguiente después del tremendo “Supermodified”. La verdad es que la esencia continúa siendo la misma, poco se diferencia este álbum de su predecesor. Eso es unos temas electrónicos con regusto a trip-hop, pero con miles de influencias distintas en cada tema, del jazz al break beat, pasando por sonidos propios de la banda sonora de cualquier thriller hollywoodiense, samplers de hip-hop o guitarreos supermodificados.

Todo ello consigue envolvernos con una tensión moderada, con una suavidad que se acerca al placer físico y con una habilidad sobrehumana de conjuntar de manera armónica los sonidos a su disposición. Incluso a ratos recuerda al genial  “Endtroducing…” de Dj Shadow. Amon Tobin devora influencias sin parar y te las escupe en la cara con estilo, en forma de 11 cortes sobresalientes.

KING CANNIBAL SAYS…

This is going to be a big one, with a special 2 hour set from myself showcasing the best of the album, its influences and a few brand new works i’ve yet to play out (yup, album 2 material on the first album’s launch party) All this alongside Coldcut’s Jon More, new Big Dada signing Offshore and a certain other (very quiet) God Of War. Its going to be a deep dark event.

Plastic People isn’t the biggest of venues and a certain amount of the door will be held back for press & industry folks so PLEASE if you want to go i’d advise booking NOW to avoid disappointment.

First stumbled across Journeyman while trying to track down “Latneiro (Woob’s Sunrise Dub)” which was missing from every single Tone Tales From Tomorrow mix out there.

It led me to this album from the brief ambient offshoot NTone (originally Ninja Tone) sub-label of Ninja Tune.

A nice ambient dub (there seems to be a pattern here lately…) album.

I went to Koko yesterday night, in Camden town for the videocrash 4, especially to see Hexstatic, which is a duo consisting of Stuart Warren Hill and Robin Brunson that specializes in creating “quirky audio visual electro.“

Great show, Koko is a nice place, kind of an old theater, and it was interesting to see AV performance in this area. The way that hexstatic, coldcut, DJ cheeba mix, using DVD turntable in very powerfull to see in live. And to see them remixing Timber (Hexstatic+ Coldcut and Auto, their most famous videos.So, many good parts, great video mix by DJ cheeba, powerfull with a great sense of humour. Robin Brunson was doing really well ( I was a bit tired when Stuart Warren Hill started, and I think He was too !). Robin did a funny remix of Tarantino’s fake trailer Machete, second degree and it tore my guts out. But I was disappointed by the vjing during the other band, for Glass diamond and Stonephace, I can take those cheap and kisch effects anymore (specially the “tunnel and kaleïdoscope” effect, quite bad!)

Audio from the forthcoming Dj Food’s ‘The Shape Of Thing That Hum’ EP is now up on Soundcloud. The release is out on December the 14th,so in the meanwhile get your ears round these. This is even more noteworthy as i was on mixing duties for the lead track  Sentinal (Shadow Guard).

Strictly Kev himself says…. “Here are 3 tracks from my next EP, streamable via Soundcloud – there 5 tracks in all with a further 3 remixes on the download. Sentinel is a collaboration with DK and GIANT is a cover of The The without the vocal which will be added to a remixed version on the album.“
