Second album pour l’anglais Fin Greenal sous le nom de Fink.

Ce qui sort généralement des alchimistes électro de Ninja Tunes laisse toujours présager de bonnes choses pour nos oreilles… Fink était dans ma liste des artistes Ninja Tunes à écouter. Profitant d’une session spécial soldes Ninja Tunes chez Amazon MP3, je me suis procuré Distance & Time. Pour découvrir et éventuellement poursuivre sur son dernier opus Sort of revolution.

L’album ouvre ses portes avec Troubles what you’re in. Batterie mixée comme à côté de vous et dans son plus simple appareil, quelques arpèges de guitare acoustique, quelques cordes pour donner de l’emphase et ensuite la voix du bonhomme. Une voix blanche et chaude qui invite instantanément l’auditeur dans l’univers intime de Fink. La production du morceau est impeccable. Juste. Rien à ajouter…

L’album continue alors dans la lignée. La plupart des compositions sont structurées de la même façon (This is the thing). Batterie, guitare et voix dans un complet acoustique et produit avec la classe d’un smoking, sobre et avec classe. On pourrait penser que l’on va s’en lasser mais non. La formule est si simple et honnête qu’elle invite à rester là, tranquillement assis un verre à la main à partager les vagues à l’âme et autres confidences (Under the same stars) de Fink.

Le point culminant de l’album est je pense avec le superbe If Only.

Je ne sais pas ce que vaut un concert du monsieur, mais je m’en vais tenter ma chance de ce pas lors son prochain passage à Paris à l’Alhambra ou à Massy la veille.

Ninja Tunes have over the years provided some fantastic gems, and with the combination of Fink and remix duties given to The Cinematic Orchestra on Fink’s stunning – “Sort Of Revolution” – from the album of the same name – the label certainly haven’t failed neither sonically or timing wise. This is as if it was tailored for your sunsets.

I tested this while in the Balearics, and peoples jaws are dropping faster than you can say “Another Campari Orange!” once this comes floating out the speakers at you.

MP3: Fink – Sort Of Revolution (The Cinematic Orchestra Remix)

The name DJ Food is synonymous with the ever loved, lounge-surfing, hip-hop sampling, Ninja Tunes style trip-hop of the late nineties. As of late DJ Food has gone from being a collective to just one turntable master, that being Strictly Kev, and along with Darren Knots, aka DK, the duo have been carrying the torch for the new sound of Ninja Tunes, releasing the critically acclaimed genre-mashing DJ mix “Solid Steel – Now, Listen Again”. They’re also pushing the envelope with their stage show, combining wildstyle hip-hop DJing with a similarly minded approach to VJing, mixing in visual snippets of pop culture the way a hip-hop DJ would mix in breaks and beats.

This is a short slice of a recent “Up Close and Personal” couch-session at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town. If you weren’t there, don’t go get jealous now.

I guess (and hope) you all heard of Amon Tobin a.k.a Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin if not i´m pretty sorry for your lifes!! He is without doubt one of the biggest underground heroes alive on planet earth today, who has delivered so much good music the past decade, this blogpost is a celebration of Tobins´s career!

The Brazilian musician, DJ, and producer known for his massive sound walls blending trip-hop sampled jazz fused with drum and bass, intelligent dance music and samba, often with a pretty dark and deep approach is best known for his use of sampling, where a small section of a previous recording is manipulated to produce a new sound. His use of this technique has changed over the course of his career. On his original singles under Ninebar and his first three albums, Tobin acquired all of the samples to produce music from his personal collection of vinyl records, nowadays he manipulates the sounds with a combination of audio hardware and software, and the original source is often not recognizable in its new context. His techniques began branching into technical sound design, taking break beats or single instruments, modifying specific frequencies, and producing new sounds. Tobin is signed to the ever so reliable label Ninja Tunes.

And last but not least is more of a novelty mix.  Well it completely is a novelty mix, Mad Decent (for those of you who dont’t know) Is a blog/label started by Diplo.  The Mad Decent tour recently came through the A. It was a monday night as well as Diplo’s birthday, and maybe it was due to Boy 8 Bits issues with his CDJ’s(although his remix of Township Funk by Dj Mujava was def the highlight of the evening for me personally) or the fact it was a monday, but I have to admit ATL let me down.  It just seemed like an off night. Luckily Diplo will be pulling back through the A to support STS9 on the first date of the  NYE run at the tabby. But anyway back to the facts, I ran across a very nostalgic mix by Genevan Heathen & Matt Foley entitled: Win in the Movies.  Basically its a mix of classic 80’s soundtracks and scene samples, and anyone born in or around this time period will def have a throwback moment when listening to this.
