I Am Thankful…

• For Gummy Worms! Or bears, or fruits, or anything in the gummy family, really. Hell, you could throw a bag of gummy penis’ in front of me and I’d probably be willing to nom on them.
• That I Am Not One Of John And Kate Gosselin’s Shitty Children! I’m not kidding. If I was I’d be forced to shoot myself. Not only because my childhood would have been stolen by my over-zealous attention hungry shit-for-brains parents, but also because I’d have a chance of growing up to look like THIS GUY:

• That I Have Gone 22-Plus Years On This Planet Without Being Fully Engulfed In Flame. I can’t even begin to express my thankfulness for this one. If there is one thing I’d like to avoid being for the duration of my time on this planet, it’s a human inferno.
• They Can’t Censor The Internet. Because if they did, I’d have no vessel for my colorful language. Where else can I put words such as “Fucktardation” and “Fuckilution” into the public eye? I do, however, believe that BECAUSE the internet isn’t censored, we have a lot of fuckilution clouding it up. But that’s what you get when you have a bunch of people running around screwing things up with all their fucktardation.
• My Radio Has An Off Button: I mainly feel this way because Sheryl Crow exists. I’d be REALLY thankful if gravity reversed in the small patch of land she occupies and then she flies away into the sky and burns up in the atmosphere on her way out. I swear, I didn’t hate the word “Sun” until she started writing music. Sheryl, babe, do you have to use it in EVERY damn song?! No one is that happy all the time. And if you are, you need medication. Also, I call you babe simply to be facetious, because you are hideous to look at as well as listen. Something is seriously wrong with your face. It’s too fake to be fake. It’s as if they carved a statue of your face, then beat you with it repeatadle until shards of your own face stuck in your face. This stopped making sense a few sentances ago, but it’s still making sense. Does that make sense? Sheryl Crow ruins all sense. “IIIIII  wanna soak up the sun!” Fine, then get in a rocket and shoot yourself at it, you obnoxious lunatic.
• I Don’t Have Barophobia. That’s fear of Gravity, in case you’re wondering. Wouldn’t that be a bitch!
• We Made A Holiday That Celebrates The Wonders Of Pie. That’s something we can all be thankful for this Thanksgiving. Pie. And usually multiple kinds of it. In fact, someone brought pie into work today. Which means in a little bit, I’ll be shoving pie in my face. Be jealous, fuckers! The only way it could be better is if it was pie with gummy worms on it. MMM Gummy Worm Pie! OM NOM NOM.
• I Haven’t Gotten Anyone Pregnant Yet. If only because I’m not that big a fan of watching a girl fall down the stairs…
• I Haven’t Had To Kill Someone Yet. Basically, it’s somewhat of a minor miracle that I haven’t. I mean, everyday the thought crosses my mind. Guy on the bus tries to “Axe” the bus driver a question. I want to murder him. With an axe even. Several co-workers simply open their mouths and it makes homicide seem like a viable option. One time, I actually just SAW a person on the street and wanted to push them in front of a SUV. Why? ’cause they kinda looked like a douche, that’s why. I’m also thankful I haven’t killed someone ’cause then I’d go to prison. And for those of you who don’t know, I’m a tiny fucker. Which would make me a wonderful candidate for wife.
• I Was Born A White, Male In America. It’s like winning the fuckin’ universe PowerBall man. I’m not saying White Men are BETTER, we’re just not ever on the shit end of bigotry. Unless we’re gay. Or fat. Or non-Christian… FUCK! Nevermind…
• “Touched By An Angel” Was Taken Off The Air. BEFORE the priest molestation scandals.
• Women Dig Guys With A Sense Of Humor. Oh wait, that’s completely bullshit. Nevermind that one either…
• The Nintendo Wii Has A Wrist Strap. ‘else there would be a pretty fair chance I’d have flung the controller through the TV while pwning bitch-ass goblins in Legend of Zelda. That, and there is also a good chance I’d have thrown it through the TV just trying to keep up with how quickly it tears through batteries. What the fuck, Nintendo, you don’t even SELL batteries so this doesn’t benefit you one bit! Does Mario and the Energizer Bunny have some kind of pact I don’t know about.

Ultimately, these are obviously meant to be a bit on the oddball side, so I figured I’d end this with some serious things I’m thankful for.

I’m thankful I’m still here, despite the fact that I sometimes wish I wasn’t. This place is fun, Earth I mean. It’s like one giant ball of things to make fun of. It’s wonderful in it’s total and utter shitty-ness. I’m also thankful that this blog has given me a medium not only to vent this shit out before I explode, but also to use it to make a couple people laugh. Which brings me to you, you crazy bastards, who are reading this. I’m thankful you fuckers are still around, reading my ranting and raving and considering it mildly amusing. Without your constant ego-boosting compliments, I wouldn’t be the ego-maniacle son of a bitch I am right now. In all seriousness, the last couple of months I’ve managed to become more active, and have also managed to read a ton of hillarious shit. I love you guys, all of you. You’re a bunch of lunatics and weirdos, and it makes my day better. Thanks for putting yourselves out there and saying what needs to be said. And hey, let’s keep  it up. Maybe someday we’ll become so well known that a few pre-teens will occasionaly leave horribly written comments on our blogs with shitty grammar and terrible spelling! We can always dream.

The voice-over smoothly signs off with “…the game is just the start” in the current ad campaign for Sony’s latest iteration of its PlayStation game console. Better than that, the ad voice-over kicks off with “Start up more than games” and continues with “start a home entertainment REVOLUTION”.

He doesn’t actually shout or speak in block capital letters to emphasize the point. I just wrote it that way because while everybody’s expecting a mobile/digital TV/broadband play to deliver the (apparently) holy grail of convergence, game consoles are kind of sneaking up to grab the big prize.

And what exactly does the disembodied voice in the PS3 ad campaign mean by “home entertainment revolution”?

How about being able to access BBC iPlayer to catch up with your favourite TV shows and films! And when you factor in the matching offer from Microsoft’s XBOX 360, boy will you want to ‘jump in’. And don’t forget the Nintendo Wii either.

Each console is internet-enabled and allows ‘players’ (how much longer will they be called that?) to watch content from online TV catch-up services, download and play the latest DVD film releases e.g. ‘Ice Age 3 – Dawn of the Dinosaurs’, watch trailers for blockbuster films before they hit the cinemas and demo the latest games before they’re in the shops. And if this isn’t enough consumer engagement, with their PS3/Xbox360/Wii consoles, they’ll be able to audio-chat with friends while they’re playing games and hook up with friends on Facebook and Myspace or just tweet away on Twitter.

And then there are the games. But aren’t they’re just for kids?

Hold that thought ~ because the recent release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 shattered entertainment sales records to become the biggest launch in entertainment history – in its first five-days it grossed $550 million. This has beaten all previous first and five-day entertainment box office, book and game records – including ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ which held the record for the highest grossing film over five days, racking up $394 million.

In fact, this first-person shoot-and-destroy war-based game sold 4.2 million copies in the UK and US in 24 hours. (Bet the manufacturer’s stock management logistics were on fire!)

In the UK alone, there are 12 million of the latest generation games consoles which can bring the TV and web together. When you also factor in handheld siblings, like PSP and Nintendo DS and Apple’s iPhone apps, you’re looking at reaching something like 24 million consumers. I’m calling them ‘consumers’ because it’s not just kids who play on consoles. Just look at the positioning of the Wii as ‘family-entertainment’ and the success of games like Dr. Kawashima’s ‘Brain Training’, not to mention the ‘older’ demographic that makes up the iPhone customer-base.

Xbox 360 Live offers Sky, Zune, Lastfm, Facebook, Twitter

There’s more evidence that points to a real sense of convergence. By the way, I’m not particularly promoting Xbox. It just happens to be the games console my two boys just bought having clubbed together their savings and birthday money! (And they’ve had to start with the entry-level Xbox 360 Arcade).

Durante anos eu venho falado sobre a importância da história e da atmosfera em games; e em um território absurdamente batido como os FPS (First Person Shooters) isso se torna fundamental. Shooters sem história e sem atmosfera, mesmo com uma jogabilidade equilibrada, bons gráficos, uso de veículos e mesmo multiplayer, acabam por receber as famosas conotações de “enjoativo”, “repetitivo”, “sem noção”, etc…

Também durante anos a Activion, a Treyarch, a THQ e a EA, cada uma de sua forma tem tentado injetar vida em FPS sobre a segunda guerra uma vez após a outra, com diversos graus de sucesso. Finalmente em 2007 a Infinity Ward recebeu a chance de tentar sua mão na franquia da Activision de FPS da 2ºGG e, literalmente, modernizou a franquia, trazendo-a aos dias de hoje, com direito a uma história profunda, com dois pontos de reviravolta e que não xingava o cérebro do gamer sem exigir, no entanto, que ele entendesse todas as implicações políticas do cenário apresentado: Nascia Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Reflex (o quatro caiu, porque agora existe um Modern Warfare 2…. então meio que virou uma franquia dentro de uma franquia… bollocks) traz todo… eu repito TODO… o material que havia no game lançado 2 anos atrás nas plataformas de alta resolução. O single player está lá, com todos os estágios, todas as animações entre fases (semelhante ao que ocorreu na versão do PS2 de RE4, onde as animações entre fases foram gravadas do Cube, onde tinham uma resolução maior, e inseridas no game como se fossem uma CG – aqui as animações são gravadas em DIVX e rodam entre as fases com a mesma resolução do PS3/XBOX 360 – só que o Wii não tem cabo de HDMI para assisti-las em toda a glória) todas as partes truncadas e todo o divertimento; o multiplayer, embora não tenha chat de voz está perfeito, com um sistema de matchmaking rápido, todos os estágios, armas e dispensando os friend codes (AAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLUUUUUUUUUUUUIIIIIIIIIIAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!) – quem jogava em multiplayer no Call of Duty 1 e 2 de PC vai se sentir em casa. O som está aqui… em Dolby e cristalino… ajudando você a se sentir no meio de um campo de batalha enorme. Dito isso tudo há sérios problemas nesse game… sérios!

A Treyarch fez um trabalho sensacional tranzendo um game tão detalhado ao Wii mas houve um custo alto… ou melhor, vários custos… os personagens tem uma quantidade de polígonos bem menor do que tinham na versão HD, ou mesmo do que em CoD 5 do Wii, o que resulta em personagens blocados e a animação sofreu bastante com isso, gerando movimentos estranhos e problemas graves de detecção de colisão (não chega a ser no nível de Far Cry Vegeance do Wii… mas não é nem de perto o que o Wii consegue fazer). A mira e o sistema de controle da tela tem dezenas de possibilidades de customização (acho que o único game com mais opções de customização foi “The Conduit”) e embora elas facilitem bastante o game, com menos polígonos e pixels, e um sistema de detecção de colisão fraco, mirar com precisão se torna uma atividade difícil, contra-intuitiva e frustrante. Além disso o sistema muitas vezes não consegue conter todas as inúmeras facetas do jogo funcionando e acaba por desativar texturas (criando paredes que piscam entre um marrom e a textura de madeira que deveriam ter), desaparecer com personagens (helicópteros por vezes somem, inimigos piscam e reaparecem, corpos no chão não duram nem 10 segundos, etc…) ou mesmo para de funcionar… eu não estou brincando… meu Wii nunca.. NUNCA… deu pau antes desse jogo. Mas por duas vezes eu recebi a mensagem de erro no processamento, por favor resete o seu sistema. Uma rápida visita a internet provará que não estou sozinho.

Isso cria uma situação difícil para os fãs, até porque os jogos são caros, então aí vai uma idéia. Se você tem o Wii e considerou Call of Duty 3 e 5, bons jogos, você, assim como eu, era se acostumar rapidamente com o sistema de miro meio vesgo e chamará, por celular mesmo, seus amigos para diversas e divertidissimas partidas online. Mas se pra você, frame-rate constante e controle perfeito, sem essa de “dar jeitinho” são fundamentais… passe longe desse game e dirija-se para “The Conduit”. Você vai se divertir muito mais. Se você não acompanhou toda a saga recheada de Zumbis, aranhas, lesmas e monstruosidades mil que acompanharam ou foram criados pela companhia sem escrupulos Umbrella, não tem problema! A Capcom, tão gentil, está reciclando seus games antigos e dando a você, gentil jogador a chance de se aventurar em todas os games… só que agora na forma de shooters on tracks… o que significa uma espécie de cruzamento bastardo entre um jogo de tiro, um sistema de câmera da bruxa de blair e uma montanha russa. Residente Evil Umbrella Chronicles, lançado em 2007, trazia um capítulo inédito, além do game 0, 1 e 3. O novo game, Darkside Chronicles traz os games 2, Code:Veronica, além de diversos trechos novos que fazem RE 4 e 2 terem bem mais sentido. E vamos dar uma bela olhada no novo game.

Darkside Chronicles é bonito… muito mais bonito que seu antecessor e surpreedentemente bonito para um game de Wii, principalmente se você usar o video componente. Os Zumbis se sujam, com seus fluídos ou com sangue que jorra deles ou de seus “colegas de grupo” e seus corpos pútridos ficam na tela por tempo suficiente para a mesma se mexer, aumentando o realismo da cena – das aranhas a Veronica-D (o super monstro que Veronica vira ao se injetar com o Progenitor Virus) um cuidado exuberante foi dado para os gráficos do game. O som também não faz feio, com diversas músicas retiradas direto do jogo e remixadas ou modernizadas, além de sons ambientes bem feitos e soberbamente utilizados.

Os controles são excelentes e funcionam muito muito bem, com um sistema de mira fortalecido e excelente sistema de detecção de colisão. A história começa com Leon e Krauser, em uma missão na América do Sul, o país não é especificado, atrás de uma menina. Logo depois Leon se lembra de suas aventuras, e rola Resident Evil 2, a história passa para o ponto de vista de Claire que se lembra das aventuras de Code:Veronica e por fim a história retorna para Krauser e Leon, explicando a razão da inimizade que perdura até RE4.

Se você curtiu House of the Dead e Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles então esse jogo é definitivamente para você. Se você, no entanto, nunca ligou para Zumbis, não dá a mínima para a Umbrella e considera odioso a idéia de um jogo com a câmera do filme Cloverfield, então talvez seja melhor você tentar Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex.

In a PR Blitz that even caught the Associated Press’s attention, QVC Monday announced it is looking to give brick-and-mortar stores a run for shoppers’ money on Black Friday.

In a press release, QVC claimed it “is seeking to redefine Black Friday by offering all of the deals shoppers are looking for, with none of the craziness.”

To kick off “The New Black Friday, QVC is inviting America to get a jump-start on its post-turkey gift shopping with 28 hours of nonstop holiday shopping,” we are told.

The games Thursday, Thanksgiving evening, at 8 p.m. and continue until Friday at 11:59 p.m.

“When conventional retailers zig, QVC zags,” Claire Watts, QVC’s president of U.S. Commerce, said in a prepared statement. “This year, we’re joining the Black Friday fray – but in our own way – to make holiday gift shopping easier and more enjoyable than ever. The New Black Friday event at QVC offers a welcome escape from the mayhem – no long lines, no traffic, plus our customers can rest assured, knowing that they found really special gift ideas, at exceptional values.”

In addition to five hours of all-new, specially priced gifts Thanksgiving evening, QVC will offer three Today’s Special Value offers, items presented at exceptionally low prices, for a specific period of time. Holy crow!

AP’s David Bauder — who is a very nice guy, by the way — reported that QVC host Dave James will stay up 28 hours straight to do “telethon-like coverage” of the Black Friday event.

QVC shoppers will also get a sneak peek at the TSV for Saturday at QVC.com.

The nonstop shopping continues throughout the day on Black Friday, as QVC will offer a specially priced offer in every hour of programming. There will also be additional, specially priced offers at QVC.com.

QVC’s Black Friday programming will include, keeping with that Thanksgiving theme, “a cornucopia of terrific holiday gift-giving ideas”, the press release says.

Those include: the Nintendo Wii Gaming System with accessories, case and games; Panasonic HD Video Camera; Clarisonic Facial Cleansing System (enough with that damned Clarisonic!); and Philosophy Merry-Mint Chocolate Box 3-in-1 Shower Gel Duo.

Throughout the holiday season, QVC has extended its returns policy; gifts purchased between now and Dec. 23 may be returned up until Jan. 31 next year. But that’s not special: HSN and ShopNBC have done the same.

DS owners found the same glitch in New Super Mario Bros., now they’ll find it in Mario’s latest Wii adventure. This should make the game much easier now, if it isn’t already with the multiplayer.

Nintendo first came up with the idea for the Wii in 2001 just as the Gamecube was released to the market. Nintendos focus for the next console was simple and to focus on a new form of player interaction. Nintendo did not want to compete on hardware specification and that the video games market may suffer if everyone was competing for power. These simplce concepts lead to the creation of the Wii.

It was originally announced at E3 2004 and was the 5th console from Nintendo. At that point, no one really knew what the Wii was about until Nintendo unveiled it for the first time at E3 2005.

It wasnt until the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005 that Shigeru Miyamoto unveiled the Nintendo Wii in all its glory, as they showed off the motion gaming concept live for the first time.

At E3 2006, Nintendo officially announced the console would be called the ‘Wii’ The 2 ii’s are ment to represent 2 people standing side by side, playing together – hence Wii

The Wii was released on the 19th Nov 2006 in America, and later on the 8th December in the UK. The UK Suffered from a huge shortage at launch as Nintendo had distributed most of the consoles to the USA.

3 years on, and the Nintendo Wii has sold over 56 million units worldwide and has seen serious success, annihalting its more compelling rivals, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
