Vorige week gewandeld in de buurt van Mt. Everest naar het Tengboche. Tengboche is een Tibetaans klooster en een belangrijk boeddhistisch centrum voor de regio. Het is een heel mooi gebied en ook cultureel heel interessant. Was toch weer heel anders dan mijn andere tocht in het Annapurna gebied en het maakte me weer eens bewust hoe afwisselend Nepal is.

So since September 2009, I have taken part in five group exhibitions!! Its so cool to be able to be apart of the Newfoundland YOUNGER artist world! I have a lot of people to thank. Mostly Hillary Winter, Craig Joseph and Jill Waite for creating Pick Me Up Artist Collective =) three of the five shows are thanks to them and their wonderful idea!
Also a lovely thank you to Michelle Bush for letting me participate in the member’s show at Eastern Edge’s Time After Timeline show, exhibiting work of members from 1984 to now!

Fall down six times, stand up seven – chinese proverb

Albert Pujols won his third National League MVP award today, receiving all 32 first-place votes to become the first unanimous MVP since Barry Bonds back in 2002.

From MLB.com:

Pujols received all 32 first-place votes, good for 448 ballot points. Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez garnered 15 second-place votes and 233 points. First baseman Ryan Howard of the Phillies was a close third with 217 points. He was followed by Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder and Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

“It’s an award you give to one person, but I believe if it wouldn’t have been for the help my teammates have given me for the past year, I wouldn’t be standing up here,” Pujols said. “I always say, if I could split this award and give a piece to every single player that had an impact with this organization, I would do that.”

It’s the second straight year that Pujols has won the award, and the third time overall. He is the 10th player in history to win three MVPs, and the fifth to win it three times in the National League. He is the 12th player to win back-to-back MVP awards. The last was Barry Bonds, who won it four straight years from 2001-04.

Today, Albert Pujols won his second straight NL MVP award.  Pujols is the first the win back to back titles since Barry Bonds won four straight from 2001-2004.  Pujols was a unanimous pick, winning by over 200 votes.  Pujols had a batting average of .327, belted 47 homeruns, and had 135 runs batted in. Those numbers good enough to get your the NL MVP and our halfdog nomination of the day.

Fresh off his run-in with the Washington Highway Patrol, my boy Tim Lincecum reeled in his second consecutive NL Cy Young award Thursday.

Some had doubts toward Timmy because of him having only fifteen wins this past year, but everything else was there. He dropped his ERA down to 2.48 this year and had 261 K’s. Apparently, it’s all about the numbers for the voters. They could have gone with front-runners Chris Carpenter or Adam Wainwright both from St. Louis, but I think they made the right choice.

Lincecum does it again on a team that doesn’t see postseason action. Granted, the Giants were still much improved, but their offense was still garbage. Pablo Sandoval could only do so much for the Giants.

Timmy is also the first to win Cy Young’s in consecutive years since teammate Randy Johnson won it four years in a row with Arizona from 1999-2002.

Lincecum and AL Cy Young winner Zack Greinke were both short on wins compared to typical Cy Young winners. That just shows that the voters are looking at much more than victories these days.

The Baseball Writers Association of America have awarded Zack Greinke, 26, and Tim Lincecum, 25, with the Cy Young awards for their respected leagues.

Kids these days… they can pitch that baseball pretty well.

To no one’s surprise whatsoever, Zack Greinke won the Cy Young for the American League. He had a phenomenal season on a lousy team where some of his many accomplishments include: not allowing a run in the first 24 innings of the season, pitched a hitless 4th inning with 2 strikeouts in his 1st All Star game, he followed up a 15+ strikeout game with a one-hitter, and posted an ERA of 2.16, the lowest in MLB. Not too shabby.

But he wasn’t the only young pitcher who had a terrific season on a team that failed to make the playoffs.

For the second year in a row, San Fransico’s Tim Lincecum won the Cy Young for the National League. This hasn’t happened since Randy Johnson won back-to-back awards. And Tim Lincecum isn’t even as tall. Lincecum has only been in the league three years. So far so good.

It is a shame that these awards are announced after the MLB season has ended and baseball goes into its winter hibernation. It can’t possibly take all this time to make such a decision, so why wait and rob these stars of the praise they worked so hard to earn? Because the Baseball Writers Association of America are slower than congress and probably want to extend their own season.

Congrats to Greinke and Lincecum… puttin’ the “young” in Cy Young!

Side note: Tim Lincecum and Michael Phelps have smoked pot, and apologized. But really both are pretty f***ing successful, so it may be time to examine how harmful marijuana actually is.

San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum has won the 2009 National League Cy Young Award in one of the closest votes by the Baseball Writers Association of America in history.

I personally was rooting for Lincecum, but thought he would come in second. Nice job TIMMMMAY!!!

Lincecum had 11 of 32 first-place votes, 12 second-place votes and nine third-place votes for 100 points in the 5-3-1 balloting system. Both Bay Area writers who had votes, myself and Paul Gutierrez of the Sacramento Bee, placed Lincecum second on our ballots behind Carpenter, who had nine first-place votes and finished with 94 points. His teammate, Adam Wainwright, actually got the most first-place votes, 12, but finished third with 90 points.

Dwayne contacted me last spring about purchasing an session for the love of his life. She was graduating from University and he knew she would love to also celebrate their engagement with a photo session. With both of them traveling for work, my busy wedding season and RDF (Rain, drizzle and fog) we just got around to doing the shoot last weekend. But it could not have been more perfect!

I think that evening was made for Andrea and Dwayne!

Before I announce the slideshow I have some really exciting news! Craig’s brother and his fiance  (Joey + Jennifer) have asked me to shoot their wedding in the Mayan Riviera in May 2010! I’m so excited. I’ve never been to Mexico before! It’s going to be a beautiful adventure and I’m really looking forward to seeing the whole family again! So stay tuned. Spring ‘10 is going to bring many exciting happenings around this here blog!

Three years ago my husband and I packed up our new family of four and moved clear across the country. I was moving home. You might already know that my husband is from Zimbabwe and my kids were both born in Calgary. Me? I was born in Newfoundland. Coming home was pretty exciting. What I wasn’t prepared for was that all my old friends had moved away so returning home meant living in the city where I knew nobody. That also meant three year olds, I didn’t know any three year olds. So being the responsible mother I knew one day I had to become I decided to put my baby in pre-school. He needed friends, he needed to socialize and grow and learn to love his new home too.

That’s where Liam met Liam. For two years they played together at school and grew some kind of pre-school bond that I did not know was possible. Liam and Liam were separated this past September as they started kindergarten in different schools. My Liam is not jaded, he states just about every other day that “Liam is still his best friend’.

And that’s how I met this family. Whenever I move to a new city I’m reminded how much heartbreak, unrest and loneliness can follow you. With a little hard work it doesn’t long to be reminded that the best part about moving is new friends; new people are waiting in each place to be a part of your new life.

This past weekend I spent a beautiful mild Saturday morning with Liam’s best friends family.

They love to take their kids to the Fort Amherst area.  We shot at 9:30am to catch a softer morning light. And I say it again, “I must have the best job!”

This is the other Liam.

And this is his ‘little’ brother! He stops for nobody or nothing and yet makes a great subject for my camera!

How do I shoot into the sun successfully? A lot of you have been noticing that I shoot into the sun a lot.  Most of the these images were indeed taken that way.  The first thing you have to do is start shooting in manual.  Surprisingly a lot of point and shoots can shoot manual but it’s not always easy to access those settings.  In order to succeed at getting what you want from your camera YOU have to be in control. So, my first piece of advice is start shooting in manual mode. You’re camera manual is a great place to start if you have no idea what ‘manual’ even means.  When you’re comfortable with that I’ll tell you what to do next.

And so that mom and dad don’t get a bad rep I had to share this one where they are happily smiling for me and the kids are doing what kids do best!

Today MLB handed out its Rookie of the Year award and Chris Coghlan from the Florida Marlins was the recipient. Coghlan clearly stood out as a rookie compiling a .321 average with 84 runs and 232 total bases. What I think really swayed voters was his second half surge. Coghlan was as hot as anybody during the second half. He managed to hit .372 after the All-Star Break. Who says hitters’ bats get slower as the season goes on?

This is the definition of PAS as described by R.A. Gardner who discovered the syndrome and has become an expert in dealing with the issue.

Gardner’s definition of PAS is:

“The parental alienation syndrome (PAS) is a disorder that arises primarily in the context of child-custody disputes. Its primary manifestation is the child’s campaign of denigration against a parent, a campaign that has no justification. It results from the combination of a programming (brainwashing) parent’s indoctrinations and the child’s own contributions to the vilification of the target parent.”

Basically, this means that through verbal and non verbal thoughts, actions and mannerisms, a child is emotionally abused (brainwashed) into thinking the other parent is the enemy. Michael Bourn won his 1st Gold Glove this year but I’m sure there will be more to come. He is one of the fastest center fielders to play the game and I’ve never seen anyone as quick in lateral movement and acceleration as he is. The lateral quickness helps him adjust to balls in the air and change directions easily when he mis-judges a ball or when it is really windy. And he makes the plays when he gets there. It seemed like he made a “Wow!” play every night this year and he was one of the few bright spots for the Astros in 2009.

Outside of Michael Bourn’s phenomenal catches there aren’t many enduring memories from this season for Astros’ fans. But Bourn is only 26 years old and a season in which you’re named the team MVP and NL Gold Glove Outfielder isn’t bad for a guy who only made about $450,000. The Astros better not let this one get away.

The Olympic Flame has arrrived at the Grenfell Park in St Anthony, NL.
