Lyric time again. This is from a metal band called Six Feet Under. I just rediscovered how great the imagery is in their video for this song. I’ll include the lyrics here — they’re pretty good — but it’s the video which says it all quite well for American culture. Very reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s movie The Wall. But NOT the music — just turn off the volume and watch the video.

When my father was in so much pain, I sat there next to him, holding his hands and kept smiling hiding my tears and fear, to help him forget his pain I read his favourite books Hafez, history of Iran, and books about people like Sattar Khan, Bagher Khan, Amir Kabir, Mosadegh and many other patriots. I was just 8.

I had a dream last night. He was alive and wanted to hug me, I smiled to keep my tears from falling. I told him I’ve missed you so much. Where have you been for so many years? You can come and see me, but how about me? What do I do, when I need you and miss you? Everyday I waited, watching for you to walk through the door. After many years I accepted, you would never return home.

I stopped smiling, and said I can’t pretend and smile, come back home…
I felt a terrible burn in my heart and that woke me up

Time is not a healer and the pain of losing someone does not end and gets deeper and deeper

Peace Through Music – Playing For Change

Peace Through Music is a story of hope, struggle, perseverance and joy. Directors Mark Johnson and Jonathan Walls, along with the Playing For Change team, travelled the globe with a single minded passion to connect the world through music.

Their ambitious journey took them from post-apartheid South Africa, through the ancient sites of the Middle East, to the remote beauty of the Himalayas and beyond. Using innovative mobile technology, they filmed and recorded more than 100 musicians, largely outdoors in parks, plazas and promenades, in doorways, on cobblestone streets and amid hilly pueblos.

Each captured performance creates a new mix in which essentially the artists are all performing together, albeit hundreds or thousands of miles apart. Playing For Change: Peace Through Music is the story of this unparalleled international musical collaboration and its remarkable power of redemption.

National Call-in Day: No Timeline! No Exit Strategy!

 Congress is steps away from passing the $625.8 billion 2010 Defense Budget, which contains approximately $128.2 billion to conduct the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq through September 2010. 
  

  So far the White House has offered no timetable and no “exit strategy” for Afghanistan. To the contrary, General McChrystal is calling for tens of thousands of additional American troops and a long-term commitment, which could tie the United States down in Afghanistan for years to come.  

This is the original meaning of “a quagmire”-when every step taken to escalate a war makes it harder than ever to leave. At this critical moment, members of Congress need to get a powerful message from their constituents that we need a different policy in Afghanistan -one that emphasizes diplomacy and humanitarian assistance. Without any plan to bring the war to an end, Congress should not give another” blank-check” to the White House for continued fighting.  

United for Peace and Justice, CODEPINK, Peace Action, Progressive Democrats for America, Just Foreign Policy, AfterDowningStreet and Voters for Peace (list still in formation) believe that a public outcry is vitally important now, when the Pentagon is so obviously leaning on the President and Congress to escalate a costly, destructive and ultimately un-winnable war. On September 30 join the National Call-in Day and tell your Senators and Congressional Representatives to vote against the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill. When making this call, urge them to co-sponsor Congressman James McGovern’s H.R. 2404 that would require President Obama to provide an “exit plan” from Afghanistan no later than December 2009. Non è vero che si tratta di una missione di pace. La responsabilità per i soldati italiani morti in Afghanistan ricadono su chi li ha mandati a combattere una guerra ingiusta.

<<Per cosa sono morti i soldati italiani? Questa è la prima domanda che dobbiamo porci, al di là della retorica che in questi momenti sommergerà l’Italia e che cercherà di nascondere i veri motivi perché questi soldati con le armi più sofisticate erano in questo Afganistan.

  I politici, i pennivendoli del regime, i sindacati confederali, vi racconteranno parecchie bugie. Diranno in sostanza che  i “nostri” soldati sono lì per aiutare le popolazioni (in sostanza quasi dei missionari), per combattere il “terrorismo”e  per la “pace”.

  Quello che nascondono è che i soldati italiani sono in Afghanistan (come negli altri paesi) per gli interessi politici dell’imperialismo italiano in alleanza con quello USA.

  I lavoratori non hanno nulla in comune con queste borghesie predatrici e hanno tutto l’interesse ad opporsi alla partecipazione italiana alla guerra  che si sta combattendo in Afganistan.

Per questo,  il primo obiettivo urgente è quello di opporsi a tutte le guerre e, come denunciamo da tempo,  per evitare altri lutti  alle famiglie italiane e alle popolazioni afgane,  lottare per l’immediato ritiro delle truppe italiane in Afganistan e negli altri paesi nei quali sono presenti>>

G20 March to say:

Jobs NOT War! Hands Off Iran!

As the unemployment rate continues to skyrocket, Washington is stepping up threats against the people of Iran, using phony claims about “weapons of mass destruction.”  Last week the New York Times reported that U.S. officials are claiming Iran “has created enough nuclear fuel to make a rapid, if risky, sprint for a nuclear weapon.”  These claims, which are  flatly contradicted by earlier reports from every major U.S. intelligence agency and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), bear a striking resemblence to Bush Administration claims leading up to the illegal invasion of Iran.

These claims come as Congress is considering a new round of draconian sanctions against Iran.  Ealier this summer, on the June 6 ABC’s This Week, Vice President JoeBiden opened the door to a military attack when he said that the U.S. would not stand in the way of an Israeli strike against Iranian nuclear facilities, calling such an attack is Israel’s “sovereign right.” Israel, he said, was “free to do what it needed to do.”  
 
Biden’s threat came during a full corporate media offensive against Iran. Its timing – and the new threats – should serve as an alert to the entire progressive and anti-war movement. U.S. aircraft carriers, destroyers, nuclear submarines, jet aircraft and drones clog the seas that wash up on Iranian shores.  In light of the events of this summer, and the ongoing propoganda war against Iran, it is important to remember that John Bolton told the Telegraph of London in 2007 that a US military attack on Iran would “be a ‘last option’ after economic sanctions and attempts to foment a popular revolution had failed.”

Join us at the G20 in Pittsburgh to say “Hands Off Iran – Money for Jobs, Not for War!”Washington is planning to use the G20 in Pittsburgh to rally support for its ongoing campaign against Iran.  We need to be there to demand “Jobs, Not War!”

In this time of global capitalist crisis, when millions are unemployed and millions more facing evictions and foreclosures, we must demand that the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on current U.S. wars and the trillions that would criminally wasted in a new war be spent for jobs, health care and housing for poor and working people in the U.S. and around the world.

On Sunday, September 20, join the Stop War On Iran contingent in the March for Jobs, kicking off with an opening rally at Wylie Avenue and Soho Street (map here) in Pittsburgh at 2:00 pm.

Join the Tent City in solidarity with the unemployed, beginning Sunday, September 20, and lasting through Friday, September 25.

On Monday, September 21, join us at the “Bring the Troops Home” antiwar rally; and then the Peoples’ March on Friday, starting at noon.

From Just Foreign Policy: “The estimate that over a million Iraqis have died received independent confirmation from a prestigious British polling agency in September 2007. Opinion Research Business estimated that 1.2 million Iraqis have been killed violently since the US-led invasion.”

Note: Not by just the US-led invasion!

First thought and a question: For Sept. 2007_Over one million (1.2)…Is this a true number? Help and Help and Help! Then another question and another question. Is one person dead 1.2 million too many? Easy Answer…(And how many today_2009?)
