Lagu hits milik Bob Marley ini sangat membumi, siapa sih yang ndak tau. Saya yakin, meskipun kalian-kalian jarang memutar lagu ini tapi paling tidak kalian-kalian punya lagu ini di antara deretan koleksi anyar. Ayo pada ngaku deh

Dari hasil klik sana sini, tanya sana sini. Saya punya beberapa list penyanyi yang telah mendaur-ulang lagu yang populer di tahun 1974 ini.

Ini dia yang paling kalian-kalian ingat tentunya, versi The Fugees. Kalau ini sih sangat unik dan berkarakter. Nuansa yang ditawarkan oleh grup The Fugees terhadap lagu ini memang sangat berbeda. Terbukti saya bisa manggut-manggut dan sedikit bergoyang ala rapper ketika mendengarkan lantunan aransemen ini. Fugees banget deh nih lagu jadinya. *yoo yooo..*

Yang baru saja kalian-kalian liat itu versi dari Sean Kingston, penyanyi  rapper pendatang baru. Meskipun sama-sama nge-rap tapi warnanya tetap beda sama punya The Fugees.

Ada juga Versi Bossa ‘n Marley, vokalnya yang jazzy sangat ngena sekali di kuping. Ditambah aransemen yang swing banget. Saya suka sekali sama versi ini. Si Bossa mampu mengenyahkan sisa-sisa nafas Marley dalam jiwa lagu.  Top markotop deh!

Versi gitar akustik juga ada, punya Connie Linch. Saya juga jatuh cinta sama versi ini. Jadi balad banget, bener-bener ndak nyangka kalau lagu aslinya ini reggae. Dan satu lagi, lagu ini jadi cewek banget. Keren pokoknya. Tapi sayang, saya ndak nemu versi youtube-nya. Jadi saya sharing lewat 4shared saja ya. Silahkan kalau ada yang berminat ngunduh.

La historia musical de Brasil data de siglos atrás y ha tenido transformaciones importantes incluyendo la samba y el refinamiento de la musica popular a través de la Bossanova. Estos géneros han dado como resultado la llamada MPB o música popular brasileña, la cual tiene su más prolífico y completo representante en la figura de Gilberto Gil.

Bahiano de nacimiento, ha navegado sin problema en la tradición musical creando sambas, bossanovas y refinó a finales de los 70 el género llamado “tropicalismo” con su coterráneo Caetano Veloso.
No se puede representar una tradición sin glorificarla y eso es lo que hizo Gilberto Gil en su presentación en el Festival Cultural Zacatecas 2009 ante un lleno en la Plaza de Armas en un evento gratuito (Forum Monterrey se te extraña al igual que a mis impuestos… jaja… si)
Con guitarra en mano, el ex ministro de cultura de Brasil entregó su corazón de manera agradecida a los autores que le han dado renombre musical al pueblo brasileño y lo han cubierto de alegría y de esa eterna pero feliz melancolía o “saudade”.
Con música de su repertorio como “aquele abraco”, “expreso 2222″, “toda menina bahiana” y covers de Bob Marley y John Lenon, Gilberto cautivó con su sencillez y calidez tanto al interpretar como al comunicarse con un público que se entregó a la entrega misma del artista.

Vincent Tata Ford, the human being credited to writing No Woman, No Cry has died.

I doubt that many major news outlets will cover this story, but I would argue that out of most of the news that you will hear today, little will be as important as the death of that songwriter.

I may be exaggerating, but of most of the people who have died recently, few have touched as many lives as Vincent Tata Ford. His song No Woman, No Cry has connected with so many people, so many times that it’s kind of tragic that this human’s life is not celebrated in some sort of larger context.

But I guess that’s a testament to not only the song, but to music itself. Music has a power that most people don’t truly understand, and even fewer really tap into.

Vincent Tata Ford tapped into the power of music. No Woman No Cry is just one of those songs. It moves and repeatedly connects with you at different points in your life.

There is very little to breakdown in this song.

Lyrically, It has an awesome title/hook/chorus. It’s instantly memorable. Everyone can at least sing the chorus.

Melodically, the same chords repeat themselves throughout the song. The chorus chords are nearly the same as the verse chords, and only the melody line changes between them.

The power of this song is in its simplicity. Every time I hear it, it feels like a fresh jam, and if you have ever heard it sang around a fire, then you understand the power of this song. God Bless Vincent Tata Ford and Bob Marley. One Love.

Vincent Ford, también conocido como ‘TATA’ murió el pasado domingo a la edad de 68 años. Fué compañero de Bob Marley durante los 60 en el ghetto de Trench Town de Kingston, pero por lo que se le conoce es por ser el compositor de ‘No woman no cry’ una de las canciones más conocidas del artista jamaicano. También se le atribuyen algunas letras de canciones del álbum de 1976 Rastaman Vibration.

Creo que solo por haber escrito esa gran letra se merece nuestro reconocimiento. Jah Bless.
