Darayonan Lodge

Darayonan is a Cuyonon word that means a place to stay. The lodge is situated in a residential part of Coron town, strategically located along the National Highway. Darayonan Lodge aims to provide its guests with clean and comfortable rooms, good food and quality service. Aside from that, one has options on choosing the rooms to stay at: in the native bamboo, sawali and banig set-up or in the modern concrete and tile two-story building.

Darayonan Lodge is an accredited tourist inn by the Philippine Department of Tourism. What is striking about this place aside from its homey atmosphere is the owner’s love for the arts. It definitely is a reflection of the owner’s strive in achieving perfection in everything. From the lodge’s interior decorations to the food being served for each meal. He personally goes over every little details right before being served or handed over to the guests. We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights; and it was a part of the overwhelming positive experiences that I have had during my stay in Coron, Palawan.

The place is clean all the time! They see to it that the rooms and private comfort rooms get cleaned everyday during your stay. They also make sure that the entire lodge is spic and span all throughout the day. I have never seen any litter at all in my entire stay.

The facilities in this lodge pass the normal standards of travellers: hot and cold shower, all air-conditioned rooms, centralized water system. It’s like you never left home at all. I’ve had a comfortable stay at this lodge.

It’s also probably the only lodge that includes breakfast for two along with the daily room charge. And what’s more, drinking water and coffee is unlimited, no extra charge. I should say that staying at Darayonan is really a value for your money.

É com pesar que admito que precisaremos nos acostumar com o calor agora, afinal de contas, o frio só volta no ano que vem. Ah! O verão… Como eu odeio esta estação.

Acredito que não há mulher que aguente cabelo caindo no rosto neste calor, não adianta. A boa notícia é que a moda que está fazendo a cabeça da mulherada está a favor, viu?

I don’t like when people say everything. I’m not thankful for everything such as a bad leg, horrible skin, poor social skills and having to do pre-college before I really get started. But I AM THANKFUL for the leg’s advantages in ballet (I can twist my leg back further than the other girls), for the bad skin making better skin produce in certain areas, for the social skills having me to grow and learn more about myself as a person, and for pre college setting the way for the real thing, so I guess that’s being thankful for life itself. But everything in it? NOOOOOOO. I’m just glad to know God, have family that loves me and two fully functional hands.

I am a volunteer, intern, student, employee, daughter, sister, friend, supporter, writer and more.  I live a life on the go and prefer it that way.

Lately I have been contemplating the simple word no. Every time I mention to an acquaintance what things I am working on in my life they just stare blankly at me, my friends tell me I am crazy and I need to stop the madness, but I won’t. I love what I am doing in my life right now, the progress I am making and how much I am learning. Why on earth would I turn down an excellent opportunity to take on something new. For one it might be my 8 am to 7 pm work schedule I am on (that isn’t including time set aside for homework. I am a bit surprised that I’m passing any classes at all). Another may be the fact I don’t have the energy or time to run anymore, and this is coming from a avid runner and life long athlete. The things that make me sane and give me that break from work unfortunately I am not making time for anymore.

It seems these days the only time I ever catch myself uttering the word “no” is when I speak sternly to my dog. Yes it is true, I am one of those people, the ones who can’t turn away requests, people, or what ever might come bobbing by. Is it worth the extra long hours and stress of trying to please a co-worker or friend, to me yes it is. Sometimes I secretly hate myself for being a ‘giver’ but I don’t regret the way I am. But I do understand there is a time to speak that awful word, not only for my health but my happiness too. For those others out there like me who can’t seem to turn down even the most random of people I suggest practicing putting yourself first for a day and see how you like it. I am taking a bit of my own advice and putting this last thought into practice for this week. Word of the week: NO.

The life I have been describing I know isn’t too far off from many other college students. A lot of pressure is put upon students to receive fabulous grades on top of being actively involved on campus, interning and work. Oh and you can’t forget the wonderful social life you have to keep up on too. This has always been described as the time to be meeting new people and developing great relationships you will carry with you for the rest of your life. When does the break come in? I have been asking myself that same question this past year, and I really believe it is up to ourselves to find that balance within all the craziness. Pick and choose, say no to a few requests and find time to set aside for YOU.

While a very catchy Weezer song…I think it pertains to my blogging as well. After a very long time, we have internet again and I can waste my precious time doing pretty much nothing but lose brain cells and stare at a screen. I’ll try to blog more often but I dont see that happening much…Life has other plans for me right now and honestly, I have no time what-so-ever! From here on, perhaps sporadic posting….we’ll see

I was at a charity thinger tonight with my friend, Dannae, who is an attorney. I was talking with some folks and this guys said, “So, what do you do?”. I replied, “I’m a fortune-teller.” “Which is a euphemism for??”. “Um, I’m a tarot card reader?” “Which means?” “Dude – I do readings – I’m a psychic, fortune teller, palm reader, Ms. Cleo – seriously.”

“Oh, I thought you were being funny.”

No, not this time.

HAHAHA! President Obama will not be reading Palin’s book as he probably feels it would be a bore to read & full of lies like we all know it is!

During my childhood, I did not have choices. I had things forced upon on my little childlike body. The word “no” did not exist in my vocabulary. I had never heard the word boundaries. Let alone know I could have them.

However, within the past year I have figured out that now, I can choose things. I have chosen to return to school. I have chosen not fight therapy and to just let professionals help me. I am starting to choose who I show love to.

The most important thing that I did choose was to start my journey of healing. I could have picked a very different path than I did. I could have become an addict, or a criminal. I could have chosen to stay a victim but I decided to call myself a survivor.

Recently my mother told me “I am self-centered and selfish for not giving someone a hug”.

I thought about what she said, I realized something. The first 22 years of my life, it was about everyone else.

While I experienced long-term sadistic abuse as a child. I kept my abuse a secret unconsciously because I was worried about how it would ruin the family image. My family stole my childhood away from me because of the unrealistic image they choose to show others.  They enabled my abusers for years until one of them died.

Selfish actually means caring only about oneself and I do not see anything wrong with that. At this point in my journey, I need to work on self-care. I am learning that it is ok and very healthy to establish boundaries.

I will not let others control my life. I will not do anything that I do not feel comfortable doing. If someone gets offended by not getting a hug, too bad. I am an adult now and a survivor. I make decisions for myself based on what makes me feel safe.

Therefore, “Self-centered” and “selfish”…damn right I am!

As a man I have spent my life attempting to figure out how to interpret this statement.

I double take every conversation with a Bulgarian as they shake their head up and down whilst saying ‘No’ and shake their head left and right whilst saying ‘Yes’.

I feel very sorry for Bulgarian men.
