Ghazkull Thraka is the most famed of all orks. He is nearly 4″ tall in real life, and can put on the hurt like a freight train. I was thinking, and if I had a no-point limit game, this would be my ideal Ghazkull Thraka army:

HQ:

Ghazkull Thraka (obviously)

Mad Dok Grotsnik (another obvious choice, why would you have the big boss without his trusted painboy?)

Elites:

2 units of ten meganobs in a battlewagon, no upgraded guns (sure, maybe a flamer or two, but meganobs are supposed to be plain and tough,) all with cybork bodies from the Mad Dok

1 unit of ten nobs, Painboy, Cybork bodies, 3 big choppas, 2 power klaws, battlewagon, waaagh! banner, eavy armor, 5 twin linked shootas, ETC

Troops:

5 units of 30 ork boys, slugga/choppa, three big shootas, nob with power klaw, bosspole

1 unit of ten nobs, Painboy, Cybork bodies, 3 big choppas, 2 power klaws, battlewagon, waaagh! banner, eavy armor, 5 twin linked shootas, ETC (troops because of Ghazkulls ‘Big Boss’ special rule)

Fast attack:

Please, this is a Ghazkull Thraka Goff army, and while he did employ speed freeks, they worked separately. Old Ghazzy would never be caught dead with those panzy bikers

Heavy support:

3 sets of 3 kannons, runt herd, extra crew, ammo runts

I know that this may not be a game winner, but I think it would be fun to play, and really goes along with a ghazkull theme. Watch out for pie plates!

I have done lots of posts about specific units, but I have done very few posts about the larger scale. I decided to start with one of the most popular (and ridiculously fun) ork strategies: The WAAAGH!

In essence, you take as many ork boys as possible, a couple of warbosses, and let fly. That is what most enemies will be expecting, and that is what many players will give them. I like this strategy, but I find there are several holes in it. Firstly, there are no tank killers. Take power klaws and rokkits if you want, but taking a thirty man squad and then diverting it for something it wasn’t meant to do? No! I suggest you use deffkoptas with rokkits, and if you have a warphead, tankbustas. I know I have said they aren’t worth their salt, and they aren’t on their own, but there is one way you can make them better, and that is the warphead. 1/3 of the time he will teleport the group, and when that happens, place them right behind the tank. You may not be able to assault (don’t take tankhammers or power klaws,) but you can unload with your 10-15 rokkits. However, that would cost 235-310 points, will take several turns to work, and when it happens, you will only get 3-5 hits, which causes 2-4 penetrating on AV 10, which will probably do damage to the tank, and might kill it. So, is 235 points worth a probably? I don’t think so. Try killing it with the deffkoptas, are some other killer, but only do this against tau or space marines. (you can use the rokkits later to kill their troops/elites.)

That is the main disadvantage to the WAAAGH! strategy. There are others, but they are taken care of by numbers. (think about it, thirty ork boys on the charge get 120 attacks at strength 4, against space marine terminators around 60 will hit, that is 3 wounds, which is 5 dead terminators. So, lets see, a 180 point unit kills 200 points of another close combat unit before it even takes a hit! it doesn’t matter that the armor won’t be pierced, the unit will take massive damage.

Warbikers can be some of the most awesome units in the ork world. They are fast, they have two 4+ saves, they have an awesome gun, they have four attacks on the charge, and they can fire both of their guns when they move 12″ (sluggas are classified as defensive weapons.) The warboss can take a warbike, and nobs can take a warbike. (did you know?: the most expensive single ork unit is biker nobs with all the trimmings, it would cost exactly 1087points.) The nobs on warbikes are probably the most awesome and well rounded units in the game, (if they have several power klaws.) With the two seperate 4+ saves, the 5+ invulnerable saves, and the 4+ feel no pain save, I can only think of one weapon that denies all defenses, and it is a space marine gray knight CC weapon that costs TONS of points. So lets look at the pros of warbikes:

super high movement: The additional movement is invaluable for an ork army. Orks have several strengths, and normally mobility is not one of them. The fact that they can move 24″ per turn, and have an assault threat of 18″ is invaluable for orks, and probably the greatest advantage for bikers.

Dakkaguns: Simply put, these are half range big shootas. They have pretty good strength, decent AP, a high fire rate, and are twin linked. This means that bikers can put out serous firepower before assaulting.

Additional toughness: While it doesn’t hold against instant death (S8 or higher) the additional toughness means that small arms will be even less effective. (the standard S3-4 anti troop weaponry will be powerless to stop them.) Combined with an orks naturally high resilience, this helps a lot for absorbing firepower, especially combined with:

AV 4 and exhaust cloud: These two 4+ saves mean that almost nothing will be penetrating the ork armor. Half the time it may slip past the armor, but it won’t be penetrated.

Now lets look at the cons:

25 pts: While in comparison to other bikers, this may not be a huge amount, it still costs 19 points more than a normal ork boy. For the cost of one biker, you could get 4 1/6 ork boys, or a nob with ‘eavy armor. Nobs cost even more, but then again, they are nobs.

Maximum unit size: the maximum unit size is ten with these guys, so you will lose mob rule very quickly. This can be sated by a bosspole, but mob rule is normally one of the orks greatest strengths, so you are giving up one strength to benefit from others. This also applies to:

No WAAAGH!: Being on bikes, they cannot run. They have the additional movement anyways, but I think that wastes a great ork special if you take a all-biker army.

All in all, the warbikers have pros and cons. They are harder and shootier than most orks, but they also waste two of the orks greatest bonuses. I personally think you would be better off to put a unit of twenty ‘ard boys in a battlewagon with armor plates (300 points) than to take ten warbikers with a nob and bosspole (two hundred and sixty five points.) Yes, the boys are one lower on the toughness scale, yes, the guns are weaker, yes, the unit costs more, yes, they don’t get the cover save, but they have a greater assault when the waaagh!, there is enough of them to keep the casualties ineffective, with the battlewagon they can take up to six big shootas, (which have double range) and the battlewagon can operate as an independent gun/ramming base once they get out. I personally think that, while warbikers rock, (and they roll,) they simply aren’t worth their teef.

A while ago, I posted a tau-killer article. I tried that strategy recently, and to my surprise, I lost spectacularly. I had planned everything out rather well, but my opponent accidentally placed his fire warriors mare than 12″ away from the table edge, and when I tried to infiltrate, he realized that. By that time, he had figured out my ploy, and so he placed his fire warriors in a long surrounding line around his tank, making my guys worthless. Since then, through experience, I have discovered a far more effective tau-killing tactic: Deffkoptas. For 40 PTS each, they have twin-linked rokkits. That almost always causes instant death, can kill most any tanks rear armor, and penetrates nearly all tau armor. I used three deffkoptas, (135 pts,) and killed two crisis suits and a marker drone. (160 Pts.) If I had more koptas, I would have used them, because then I would have lasted long enough to cause even more damage. Another great thing is there maneuverability. They can fire from the rooftops, and that gives them good cover as well.

Stuff to look out for: Fire warriors. They have to many shots per unit to be sated with rokkits. The option I am thinking of now is: a battlewagon filled with 5 meganobs, a mega-boss, and a kilkannon on top. It is expensive, but if you do this you can blast at the enemies troops, get heavy units in fast, and cause enough havoc to draw the fire away from your koptas.

Possibly my favorite unit for massive destruction is the shokk attack gun. It epitomises what all me

Possibly my favorite unit for massive destruction is the shokk attack gun. It epitomises what all meks live for: Big, Shooty, Killy, and impossible to replicate. But with the capacity to blow up in your face, is it worth it?

First off, lets dispel one common myth found amongst most gaming forums. Though it can blow up in your face, that is VERY RARE. Only 1/6 of the time will the shots be doubles, and only 1/2 (which comes to about 1/12) of that will actually have mere potential to damage your own units, and it still could hurt the opponent. After that, only 1/18 of the time will it hurt you automatically (or at least target you automatically) and a mere 1/36 of the time when that happens will it definitely kill your men. (often just the big mek.) Given the potential for destruction, it can pay itself off before destruction around 96% of the time.

When to use it: The shokk attack gun may have varying strength, but there is one constant: AP 2. That means it ignores feel no pain, and penetrates anything. (Unless the save is invulnerable.) Combine that with the fact that overall, it is the cheapest large blast weapon in the ork arsenal (the others you have to take on a vehicle) it makes an effective anti-troop unit. Against any high point unit (assault gene-stealers-38 pts each, or terminators-40 pts each,) you only need to take out three and he is payed off. (I know I have said not to try and kill your points worth with a unit, but this is an exception. He is designed to kill, nothing more.)

Note: While the odds of something bad happening are slim, they are still there, and they are still a threat. While the shokk attack gun is useful 96% of the time, you should always have a backup plan in case you roll double ones on the first roll. Now, if you roll double sixes on the first roll and take out marneus calgar and half a dozen terminators, you will see why the shokk attack gun rocks, but the odds of that happening are also 4%. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst.

Today I continue my session on ork boys, moving on to biker boys, storm boys, and burna boys. These are the ‘elite’ forms of the ork boys. (I know, I know, two of them are fast attack, I am just saying they have better wargear and supplies, making them better than normal boys.)

Bikers: These guys are fast. Really fast. with turbo-boost and twin linked dakkaguns, these guys are the second most well rounded units in the game. (With biker nobs being the most.) they cost twenty five points each, so it gets pricy fast, and I don’t like how they get killed easily, but when siezing or contesting objectives, these guys are really good. However, on the flipside, they cost more than space marines, there twin linked BS is slightly worse than BS 4, and they have only a save of 4+ (though they also have the 4+ cover save, so they will get it most of the time.) However, they are unable to stand up to the ‘bane of orks:’ blast template weapons. One S6 AP 4 blast can easily take out the entire unit. So, is 250 PTS worth it if they can get blown up in a single shot? well, that powerful of a weapon doesn’t come cheap, and it doesn’t show up very often. though around twenty bolter rounds fired by marines can also take it out, these guys are still strong enough to fight it out. Overall: 7 out of 10

Stormboys: these guys have the second longest close combat threaght in all of orkdom. (second only to a group of trukk boys who move 12″, use waaagh! and then get their 6″ assault.) I think they can easily pull their weight the same way bikers can, and they are ten points cheaper. Do I think ten points is worth an extra toughness and twin linked dakkaguns? Well, the toughness, definetly not. The dakkaguns, however, I am not sure about. However, at that range, you want to conserve your ammo, waaagh! and go straight for the kill. Not much more to say here, Overall: 7 1/2 out of 10

Burnas: Ah, burnas. One of the best ways to deal with space marines. also, AP 5 is good against guard. for more details, see the burna strategy in beakie killin’.

I have said before that I don’t think tankbustas should be used to, well, bust tanks. However, there is a good application for them: Killing beakies and panzies. (space marines and tau.) Both of these armies have rather good armor on their soldiers, and it can be difficult to kill them. lootas can be used against space marine scouts and most tau, but they don’t have assault weapons, and they don’t cause instant death against T4. My suggestion is to kill all the tanks with kommandos and the kommit from the warp. Then bring in the lootas and tankbustas to mop up the mess. I find that the codex idea for the unit isn’t at all what you should do with these guys. You have all those instant death causing AP3 shots, why not use them?

Today I will focus on the best way to kill three types of space marines: terminators, land raiders,

Today I will focus on the best way to kill three types of space marines: terminators, land raiders, and tactical squads. Lets start with the basics:

Tactical squads: These guys are incredibly awesome in all parts of a battle. their guns hit most every time, their toughness is four instead of three, and most importantly, they have a save of 3+. I think the only disadvantage is that they only get one attack (to if they drop the boltgun). I find the best way to get rid of them is to let them hit first. You are obviously going to hit second, so you need a warrior who can take the hits, and you need someone who can penetrate armor. I think the best way to do this is: Meganobs! They hit second, but they have a save of 2+, S8 power hits, and three attacks! (four on the charge.) not only that, but with weapon skill of four, toughness of four, only 1/4 of the attacks will even make it to the armor save! The other way is to get an SAG or possibly a boomgun and let fly with that.

Terminators: These guys are better than tactical squads in so many ways. The main way is the guns and the power fists and the attacks. Meganobs won’t work here, as they will take instant death, and it will penetrate armor. something else is needed. My suggestion? Burnas. With the initiative advantage they will have no problem taking out the terminators, so long as they get there. (try a trukk or a looted wagon.) Lets look at it this way: ten terminators, (400 pts) VS twelve burnas in a looted wagon. (185 pts.) after shooting, I would say 10 will make it, so long as the looted wagon gets pretty close before it explodes, which it probably would against most terminator guns. they get in close combat and strike first. three attacks a piece on the charge. (with waaagh! that should be no problem), that makes thirty attacks. Half will hit, so you have fifteen hits, and half of that wounds. Overall, seven and a half left, taking invulnerable saves that makes it five dead terminators. (200 pts of dead termies.) That leaves five living terminators. Two attacks each, that is ten attacks, five hit, four wound. So that is six remaining burnas, which is a total point loss of 125 pts, with the looted wagon. next turn, they kill two more, and they take two wounds. four burnas VS three terminators. next turn, assuming nobody has intervened, (using kommandos and boys and stuff that shouldn’t be a problem,) that is at worst one dead terminator and two dead burnas. two on two. terminators turn, okay, one more dies and then one burna dies. one on one. last turn, the burna dies and the terminator captain is okay. So lets see: on the ork side you take 185 points of casualties, but on the marine side that is a whopping 360 points of casualties! the terminators would have to be doubly effective in order to pay their dues! one captain should be relatively easy to kill, as well.

Land raiders: Ah, land raiders. The most heavily armored vehicles in the 40k universe. I find only one solution to this problematic vehicle. I call it: The meteor from the warp. It costs exactly two-hundred points, but can also be used for other fun purposes like carrying meganobs to the tactical squad or burnas to the terminators, so this tactic can double up, and it will pay for itself when the raider dies. Bring a warphead, a battlewagon with a deff rolla, (maybe give the BW armor plates too, just in case,) and whatever you want to carry in the battlewagon, though that is not necessary (however, i strongly suggest meganobs. They fight good, they help the strategy, and they can be used successfully once this tactic is over. Every turn roll two dice, even if you get a neutral, to try and get an ‘ere we go result. this is one of the reasons meganobs come in handy for this, because it isn’t strong enough to penetrate the side armor, and you can take one or two saves with meganobs without being damaged at all. The moment you get an ‘ere we go, transport as close as is safely possible (around eight or ten inches) from the land raider, and if you can, have the rear facing the raider. If you brought meganobs, have them waaagh! and assault near the edge of the raider, just so you can try for a ‘crew stunned’ result. That is all it takes right now. Then, soak up the incoming fire by using the rest of you transport units to block and absorb shots, (another good reason to take meganobs, it will look like they were the main purpose of this attack.) Immediately on your next movement phase, (try and get your warphead out of the wagon before this point) spin the battlewagon around and ram the land raider. D6 S10 HITS! that will almost definitely kill it, and even if it doesn’t it will still cause heavy damage, you can still shoot at it with zaaap! (if you get lucky) and you can still (maybe) attack it with meganobs, (assuming you took them.) It is a practical guarantee that the tank will die, you have most of a meganob squad remaining right next to the beakie army, (plus the warphead,) and you can continue to charge things (like dreadnoughts and beakies) with your battlewagon!.

If anyone has other suggestions for these three units, please post, I will be happy to see your feedback

Obviously, the Rokkit is more powerful. It may have 1/3 less range, but it can pack a much more powerful punch. It is a heavy unit killer. Right now, I think the rokkit is winning, but there is one factor less.

Gun type:

big shoota: assault three

Rokkit: assault one

So that settles it. The rokkit is designed for taking out mid strength heavy units. The big shoota is an anti-troop unit. But with BS 2, you would need:

rokkit – three guns to hit (30 pts)

big shoota – one gun to hit (5 pts)

So is 25 pts worth +3 strength and the -2 AP? no. Sorry kids, but if you are facing guys with that good of armor, you are better off taking tankbustas (not for use against tanks) because they are cheaper, burnas because of the power weapon, or meganobs because of the power klaw. Ork boys still won’t do much against a 3+ save in CC, so no point trying to use them as a firebase for it. I am not denying that rokkits are valuable, but they aren’t for that.

Nobs are like super powered ork boys. Not only that, but they have really good upgrades. But which upgrade should you take? and how many of each?

Nob Bikers: a good upgrade when trying to seize objectives. It costs more than an extra nob, but when speed is an issue, you can always count on these guys. Verdict: take when seizing objectives

Stikkbombz: a good upgrade, but if you are assaulting into close combat in cover, you are either going to be assaulting a panzee shooter unit, or a close combat group. the close combat group is probably going to have to high of initiative anyways, so I really think that this is a wishy-washy upgrade, that won’t be used much. However, if you are facing a bunch of initiative three units on a board with lots of light cover, sure! go ahead! otherwise, I really don’t suggest this at all. Verdict: No

Big Choppa: plus two strength is great! you lose an attack, because it is two handed, but you are strong enough to cause instant death against anyone but space marines. Which rocks. Verdict: 2-3 per unit

Power klaw: This is an incredibly powerful upgrade that costs as much as a warbike. It works great, but reduces initiative to one. The initiative is only three anyways, so that won’t matter much, but one nob with a power klaw costs more than a nob with mega armor (which comes with a power klaw.) Don’t EVER take an entire unit with power klaws. However, one heavy hitter in a unit is always a good thing. Verdict: 0-1 per unit

Twin linked shoota: At first I doubted how useful a twin linked gun would be, especially with orks. Then I used a unit of meganobs against a tyranid army. Meganobs have twin linked guns. My opponent flew his winged warriors to the top of a building, and I had no jump packs to battle them. I had my meganobs within 18″ so I let fly, and with five guys I INFLICTED 5 WOUNDS! that left him with a single near dead warrior, that’s it! Verdict: 3-5 per unit

Shoota-rokkit combi-weapon: This looks good at first, but since orks have only a BS of two, you are probably going to miss. You could give the unit several instead of twin linked shootas, but that gets rid of the twin linked shootas. You could also give them ammo runts, but think about it like this: you are spending three points to help a five point upgrade that replaces a more efficient five point upgrade in the first place. If nobs are good, it is not for there combi-rokkits. Definitely not for the combie-rokkits. Verdict: 0 per unit

Shoota-skorcha combi-weapon: This is another combi-weapon that replaces the twin-linked shoota. However, unlike the combi rokkits, I like these. It is template, so it ignores cover and hits automatically. It has AP four and S 5, so it will ignore most armor and usually wound on a 2+. I don’t think you need very many, because by the time you are using these, it is time to get stuck in, but one or two to soften the target is always nice. Verdict: 1-2 per unit.

‘eavy armor: A good upgrade against weak shooters. I like it especially against tyranids, because only one of their guns can even do anything to pierce it. It may cause instant death large blast, but they aren’t getting past that armor. Verdict: entire unit against weak shooters, 1-2 against heavy shooters (ever notice that a few welded plates does the same thing as a masterfully crafted space marine scout suit? That’s waaagh! power for ya.)

bosspole: A cheap but effective upgrade. You can only take ten nobs, so you will lose mob rule very quickly. When taking this, always take at least one guy with ‘eavy armor, because that way half the time you won’t even need to count the wound and you get the re-roll free! Verdict: 1 per unit

Waaagh! banner: This upgrade is awesome! if I were to tell you the one thing that made nobs awesome and deadly, it would be this. for fifteen points, you can make them WS 5. that sounds okay at this point, but for 30 points, they have a WS of 6. Once you get to spending 75 points, you are at WS 9! that means that even preferred enemy won’t stand a chance. It would be like twin linked BS 6. It still isn’t good. Now, if they die, you lose one of the WS, but if you take a couple extra guys and bring in ‘eavy armor, you are going to survive pretty well.

Ammo runt: Nice, but only worthy with the shoota-rokkit. otherwise, for two points more, you could just make there weapons twin linked anyways. And since the combi-rokkit isn’t good, the ammo runt isn’t good. (though it is still good for flash gits and big meks with SAG’s.)

Painboy: A good upgrade if there are 6 or more nobs in the group. otherwise, he isn’t worth his teeth. But in a larger unit, you could use that added protection, you can afford that added protection, and you might just need that added protection. Verdict: on units of 6+

Grot orderly: if you are taking a painboy, that means you are probably thinking of taking a grot orderly. I have one suggestion. Don’t. He is pretty much like an ammo runt for FNP, but I think that there is a better application of you 3 points. also, three is an odd number, so you will probably have two points leftover, unless you play grots and you have 19 of them.

Cybork bodies: another painboy upgrade. I suggest against people who pierce armor and cause instant death. for instance, a tau railgun will not be effective 1/2 the time. If you add this, it will not be effective around 3/4 of the time. That is significantly better odds. Verdict: 2-4 per unit, (assuming unit of 6+)

A lot of people, (A LOT!) look down on flash gits. I did too, at one point. They write them off as w

A lot of people, (A LOT!) look down on flash gits. I did too, at one point. They write them off as worthless because lootas have better guns and lootas cost less. But what they always seem to forget is that they have the stat-line of a nob with ‘eavy armor. Look at this chart:

Nob w/ eavy armor: Ws 4 Bs 2 S 4 T 4 W 2 I 3 A 3 Ld 7 Sv 4+ for 25 pts

Flash git: Ws 4 Bs 2 S 4 T 4 W 2 I 3 A 3 Ld 7 Sv 4+ for 25 pts

Notice any difference? still not? that’s because there isn’t one! (except the name) The only difference is the gun. Flash Gits are assault troops. The gun is merely for pulping up the troops before slaughtering them in close combat.

I have come up with five reasons to chose Flash Gits.

1: Nob statline: These guys have good guns, but they still rock in CC like no other. If you were to give a nob a shoota-rokkit launcha ork scorcha, it would cost the same as a ‘more dakka’ upgrade, and it would have less range once the rokkit was fired. And once you are in CC, your plentiful attacks will tear the foes to pieces. The only con with this is that they cannot take as much wargear. Also, if you wanted to have a nob-based army, the most you could have is 57 nobs including the ones who lead boys and stormboys, and the ones your warboss makes into troops. Not only that, but you would have no elite choices left, no troop choices left, and no fast attack. This allows you to take up to thirty more nobs without filling up your sheet. In the end, gits are like the shoota boys of nobs.

Painboy: The unit can take a painboy. That means that, for thirty points, you can give the gits a second 4+ save, to go with there armor. Not to mention the fact that it allows them to take cybork bodies.

Gitfindas: this is a useful little ditty. If I could buy these for lootas I would. It goes along nicely with the whole ’shock troops’ thing, because if they can’t shoot, they can run! Since they can check range before deciding to run or shoot, it means that they are far more effective at getting to the enemy quickly.

Snazzguns: These are only one shot, (maybe two, if you spend the points,) but are powerful enough to hurt and kill most enemy. 1/2 the time they penetrate space marines, 1/3 of the time they even hurt terminators! Also, they are assault guns, so they have a threat of 30″, not 24″. That is only slightly worse than that of lootas, which have a threat of 48″. That threat means they can match bullets with even tau fire warriors!

Model: This is more of a fluff advantage, but there is no stock model from games workshop. Not only that, but the codex states that they have tons of gold and teef (and golden teef.) That means you can add tons of gubbinz and bits and it won’t seem ridiculous. I personally think if Games Workshop ever came out with this model, it would be one of their coolest looking ones ever.

Now that we have established that the basics are good, which bonus should you choose? there are three options.

Dakka: turns the gun into assault two

shootier: gives +1 strength

blastier: helps AP but Gets Hot!

You can take any combination of these three, but I only like more dakka. One more shot means that there is one more chance to hit, invaluable with the low BS for the orks. Shootier is good, but it isn’t worth the points. Blastier is also a good choice, and maybe worth the points, but it has Gets Hot!. I would not want to risk injuring my own soldiers just to help hurt the beakies.

Kaptin badrukk: NO WAY! sorry kids, but this guy STINKS! Well, he doesn’t stinks, but at MOST, I would only spend 85 points on him. lets look at his counterparts.

Snikkrot: 85 PTS

Zagstruk: 85 PTS

Badrukk: 160-175 PTS (add 135 to the cost of the gits)

Not only that, but he has one less strength then snikkrot. Lets compare him to a nob:

If the nob has a waaagh! banner, Attack squig, 3 ammo runts, stikkbombs, a bosspole cybork body, and eavy armor +bionic bonce (not in the current edition, but i needed a stand in) He would cost 75 PTS. So is the gun worth 85 Pts? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It does the same thing as three kustom mega blastas, though it is three in one. At best, I would value it at 20-25 PTS. Besides, for the cost of the gun, you could buy three more gits, which is awesome, and for his total cost, you could buy 6 more! That is two more units! (small units, but still.) So lets see, Kaptin badrukk or 6 flash gits. That is an obvious decison. There is only one application I would suggest baddruk for. If you had a contest for: ‘who can find the least efficient unit. Ever.’

Overall?:

Flash Gits: 9

Painboy: 5-6 in small units, 9-10 in large units. (for every one git, add one to the score. so if the painboy was the only guy, it would be a one. Painboy +4 gits would be a five. painboy + 9 gits would be a ten.)

Badrukk: -3

Well, the new year begins tommorow! I figure I should show you all my ‘09 projects before 2010

Well, the new year begins tommorow! I figure I should show you all my ‘09 projects before 2010 begins. Firstly, (and you already know about this one,) Mad Dok Grotsnik:

I converted him using mostly nob from the nob set, including two cybork parts. I then used Irondog’s idea and took a flamer container for the ‘urty juice. It took a little tricky fitting, but I got the arm to fit on the other side.

Another project I’ve been working on is ‘old zogwort’:

I built him on pieces of plasticard painted yellow so it is like energy beams for him to float on. I also used modeling putty to create little snakes for him.

Closeup of the energy beams:

I also made another awesome modeling discovery: Magnets. Here is a couple of nobs I built, all painted and ready to play:

Here is another shot of the same nobs, all painted and ready to play.

No, you are not going crazy! and no, I didn’t post the wrong photo! I used magnets! (for more info on using magnets, check out All Things 40K. (here is part two))

I also magnetized several waaagh! banners. I plan on using several of them against genestealers. If they have ballistic skill 8, it doesn’t matter that they can re-roll to hit if they miss, they won’t be able to hit me! ever!

This christmas I got a TON of warhammer stuff. (including some stuff I just got with christmas money.) I got arouind ten paints, a painboy, two brushes, a set of nobs, ten grots, and a set of lootas. Okay, maybe not a ton, but I have my work cut out for me. I have alreaddy painted the grots. Right now I am working on custom building Mad Dok Grotsnik out of one of the nobs. It is coming along nicely. I will post photos when I am done. Other plans: build the lootas, give the burna guns to some spare boys I am not using. Build the nobs, giving a couple of big choppas, maybe a PK, and a couple of choppa sluggas, and a WAAAGH! banner. Maybe even give them ‘eavy armor. (obviously I can’t do all of these or it would cost too much, but that is my general idea.) My plan is to bury light enemies in a flurry of blows. Maybe imperial guard. just imagine it: on the charge ten S 5 attacks, 8 S 7 attacks, all at initiative of four and WS 5+.

Note: Notice that nowhere in the codex does it say your nob has to hold the waaagh! banner in his arms, or that you can only one. I am planning on building two or three and strapping it on their backs. (WS 8, anyone? that could take down a greater daemon with ease!)

There are three basic kinds of nobs: Nobs, Meganobs, and Biker Nobs. But which nob is best? Nobs: Le

There are three basic kinds of nobs: Nobs, Meganobs, and Biker Nobs. But which nob is best?

Nobs: Lets face it. These guys rock. They can do anything boyz can do, but better. However, they cost a bundle. One disadvantage is that if they take a power klaw, they are already costing more than meganobs, who get free power klaws with their armor. They can also take a painboy, who can help by doubling the survivability of the unit.

Biker Nobs: These guys are some of the most powerful warriors in the game. They are also the most expensive. you are looking at sixty to ninety points per model. They can take a painboy as well, but in the end, I think they are still not competent enough to justify the point value, especially since you could by an entire dreadnought for the cost of just one biker nob.

Meganobs: These are probably my favorite of them all. They can’t take a painboy or a bosspole, but at toughness 4 and a save of 2+, not to mention the power klaw, these guys are a steal. If you were to give a regular nob mere ‘ard armor and a power klaw, he would cost ten points more and have a weaker save. They are slow, but I find (for real) that if you stick them in a battlewagon, or even a trukk, they rock all the harder. (for a bosspole or other fancies just give them a warboss.)

In the end, nobs are the most versatile and meganobs are the best deal. Now, biker nobs are the fastest and have higher toughness, but lets face it, for the cost of one and a half biker (or just one biker nob with a power klaw and combi-weapon) could buy a BATTLEWAGON as a transport, thus removing the point of the bikes.

overall: Nob: 7 Biker Nob: 3 1/2 Meganob: 8 1/2

Escalation League 2008 Player Name: Truedemon Army Codex: Orkz Report by Lord Inquisitor Rothman Ord

Escalation League 2008
Player Name: Truedemon
Army Codex: Orkz

Report by Lord Inquisitor Rothman
Ordo Malleus
Date : 008M41

In researching the activities of Angar’acks Blood Legion and the Space wolf Vengeance company that set out in search of them my travels lead me to one of the first worlds that the Angar’acks Blood Legion made themselves manifest. It is a semi industrialized world that fell from Imperial to Ork dominance in the 35th millennium. The orks there renamed the world Gog. The remains of the original Space hulk which brought the orks to Gog still orbits the planet as a second moon.

In the Ensuing Millennia the orks of Gog have factionalized into three main war bands separated by vast areas of the Pangaea formation continent.

Goff Clan: One of the war bands to settle on Gog took residence in an area that was never fully claimed by imperial authorities. The areas still were inhabited by various chaos worshiping cults who were being rooted out of the area when the orks came. For the most part the orks have finished off the remaining cultists over the following millennia and have taken residence around their crumbling buildings and blasphemous icons. Daemon spawned powers still find it easy to manifest in these areas.

Warband Rivalry: The Goff clan’s position although fortunate to bring them the reoccurring brawl with daemonic entities left them far from the two other war bands. Although the Goff Clan will make the trek occasionally to clash with the two other war bands this is a rare occurrence.

Isolated as they are It has been Imperial policy to attempt a beach head in the Goff Clan region in order to avoid fighting multi front battles against the orks of Gog. The Goff Clan orks to date have the most experience in battle against servants of the Emperor. So far Imperial forces have been unable to make any lasting deployments into Goff Clan Lands.

The numerous encounters with the Emperor’s forces including multiple clashes with Imperial space marines have developed Goff Clan’s rocket manufacturing ability. These appear to be the favored squad based weaponry amongst the Goff clan.

Imperial forces have been warned away from attempting heavily vehicle based assaults on Goff Clan. The space marine forces that usually can be trusted to stand up reasonably well to ork assault troops are being phased out among the local Imperial planners in favor of the use of more infantry based Imperial Guard formations. My Own Storm Trooper forces should be adequate for whatever specialized missions that will be needed to conduct my research on Gog. Thankfully Inquisitional forces will not be expected to fully remove the ork forces for any sustained period of time.

CHAOS ACTIVITY: Chaos Space Marine forces of the Hell’s Inferno renegade force. have been sited in limited engagements with Goff Clan orks.

It is reported until this time that Goff Clan orks have defeated Chaos forces in all known battles. However the intensity and frequency of these clashes are increasing.

What the Renegade Chaos Space Marine forces are after in the area is unknown if these activities are related to the recent increased Demonic activity on Gog is unknown.

Given this recent turn of events a force of Grey Knight space marines are being dispatched to Gog. Their expertise in the combat of Chaos forces will be invaluable in getting to the bottom of what the chaos forces and the orks of Gog are fighting over.
