Unite!

Super groups have never been a personal favorite of mine.  It’s the point when musicians begin to see music as more of a means of profit than artistic expression.  On most occasions, super groups are prolific musicians of a certain genre attempt to unite against the forces of the popular media in hopes to add some girth to their wallets, not to their musical repertoire.  It could be likened to the collusion of Noel Gallagher, Bono and Steve Vai.  Each of these three iconic musicians is indispensable to his own act, yet the combination of three acclaimed musicians creates too many ego-headed, talented musicians all looking to make their own impact on the music.  In many ways, Monsters Of Folk is the same way.  Each singular member is outstanding.  Some are already on their way to becoming some of the most respected folk artists of their era.  Yet the collaborations don’t do justice.

Monsters Of Folk is M. Ward, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis of Bright Eyes and Jim James from My Morning Jacket.  Individually these acts are superb, but upon release of the self-titled debut, I found it to be MILDLY disappointing.  The music is still enjoyable and there are a few noteworthy tracks.  Make sure you check out each of these artists out individually and then in collaborative form in Monsters Of Folk and tell me what you think.  7/10 on the debut, still  great entertainment.

Viva La Musica

Durante entrevista a revista italiana ‘Vanity Fair’, o ex-vocalista do Oasis, Liam Gallagher, voltou a falar do futuro da banda. Ele acredita que a saída de seu irmão Noel, no fim de agosto, foi só um pretexto para poder lançar um álbum solo e afirmou que a banda seguirá com outro nome, sem o guitarrista. “Foi só um pretexto. Estava cansado e tinha vontade de fazer um trabalho solo e seguiremos adiante sem ele (Noel). O grupo vai mudar de nome, porque não seria a mesma coisa. Mas o resto da banda está comigo”, acrescentou Liam Gallagher. Ele também disse que desta vez a separação é definitiva, diferente dos conflitos anteriores. De acordo com ele, não existe uma discussão verdadeira ou um problema a ser resolvido.

As brigas e trocas de “elogios” entre os irmãos Gallagher sempre renderam ótimas manchetes para os jornais do mundo inteiro. Em um desses episódios, quem saiu prejudicada foi a MTV. No ano de 1996, Liam estava brigado com o irmão e alegou uma “dor de garganta” de última hora para não gravar o ‘MTV Unplugged’, que foi comandado por Noel (sendo assistido no auditório por Liam, acompanhado de uma garrafa de cerveja). Se não bastasse isso, Liam se recusou a seguir em turnê pelos EUA, deixando Noel sozinho. Quando resolveu voltar, Noel pegou um voo de volta para Inglaterra, retribuindo a gentileza do irmão.

Gallagher fractured three ribs and suffered a bruised ego after he was pushed to the ground and landed on a speaker.  Sullivan was apparently drunk off his ass and can’t remember the incident (yeah, right). No one tried to stop Sullivan from getting onstage until he was tackled by security after the incident.

The push comes at 1:30 in this video during the first verse of “Morning Glory.“  In a rare moment of solidarity with his brother, Liam Gallagher looked liked he tried to get a punch in and then followed security offstage to try and get in a few licks. Daniel Sullivan is officially the biggest dick in Canadian history.

The man, who allegedly injured Noel Gallagher at an Oasis concert in Canada last year (08), has pleaded guilty to an assault charge.

Daniel Sullivan tackled Gallagher onstage at Toronto’’s V Festival in September (08), which left him with three broken ribs.

During a hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice on Friday, the attacker admitted assault causing bodily harm, reports the Toronto Sun.

“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical chords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” the Daily Star quoted attorney Ruth Neilson as reading an agreed statement of facts to the court.

Neilson narrated how Sullivan also tried to take down frontman Liam Gallagher, but he couldn’t succeed as security hauled him offstage, where he was arrested.

The court heard that Sullivan could not recall how he stormed the stage as he was intoxicated at the time.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place on February 5 (10).

A clean-cut Pickering man admitted yesterday he attacked Noel Gallagher while the leader of British rock band Oasis performed in Toronto last year. On Friday Daniel Sullivan pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for the September 2008 attack, which was captured on video by several fans and has garnered worldwide attention on the Internet.

At the concert on Toronto Island, the band had launched into its hit ” Morning Glory” when Sullivan sneaked by stage security, skipped over the electric cords and passed the drum kit to charge into the guitarist from behind.

“Sullivan managed to make his way up to the main stage area, run past the electrical cords set up along the stage, pass the drum kit and lunge toward Noel Gallagher, shoving him violently from behind with great force,” said Crown attorney Ruth Neilson in reading an agreed statement of facts to Justice Richard Schneider in the Ontario Court of Justice.

Gallagher, who was facing the crowd and playing his guitar at the time, suffered three fractured ribs when he fell forward on to a speaker. He then turned and lunged at Gallagher’s younger brother, singer Liam, but was tackled by three security guards. The crowd of 25,000 cheered when the singer jabbed and kicked Sullivan while security dragged him offstage. He continued to struggle and scream as police arrested him backstage, court was told.

Sullivan only recalls trying to climb over a fence before falling on his back, according to an agreed statement of facts. Neilson said Sullivan was intoxicated at the time and has no recollection of how he was able to mount the stage, except that he “remembers attempting to climb over the fence .

The judge ordered a pre-sentence report for Sullivan to determine whether there are any extenuating circumstances that should affect his Feb. 5 sentencing. Calls to Sullivan’s Pickering home on Friday went unanswered.

In the moments after the tackle, the band stood stunned and Gallagher’s guitar rang with feedback. Gallagher walked offstage, where he stayed for several minutes before returning to perform the last 20 minutes of the set. The next day, he went to Toronto General Hospital for x-rays, where a doctor recommended he rest. He was reassessed two days later and told to cancel all performances until he was better.

A CT scan in London, England on Sept. 22, revealed he had fractured his ninth, tenth and eleventh ribs on his left side. As a consequence, Oasis was forced to cancel five concerts that were scheduled to promote the band’s new recording. One of those concerts was  major record launch in New York City.

Chances are you’ve already heard of the major blowout that happened between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher. Well now that Noel has left to produce his own music, Liam has decided to continue with Oasis minus the Oasis name AND Noel. That last part was a given.

To be honest, those two are well-known for two things, their music and their volatile relationship.
Is Oasis really done? We don’t know but we’re not sure how much success they’ll have without each other.

Noel Gallagher, afuera de Oasis. ¿Será lo mismo sin él?

Liam Gallagher anunció en una entrevista concedida a una radio italiana que Oasis estará de vuelta en un par de meses pero bajo otro nombre y sin la presencia de Noel Gallagher, que en agosto se había separado de la banda por la mala relación que mantiene con su hermano.

El guitarrista Gem Archer, el bajista Andy Bell y el baterista Chris Sharrock, integrantes de la última formación de Oasis, serán los acompañantes de Liam en el nuevo proyecto.

Para que se den una idea de lo que significó Noel Gallagher para Oasis, hasta el álbum Heathen Chemistry (o sea, los buenos tiempos) él se encargaba de la composición de todos los temas del grupo.

El hermano menor de los Gallagher, Liam Gallagher, ha revelado que cree que Noel quería dejar Oasis meses antes de hacerlo, pero no tenía las agallas para admitirlo.

 Además, durante la charla, Liam contó lo sucedido durante la pelea que provocó la separación de Oasis, y confirmó lo que se suponía: la cosa se puso fea cuando ambos hermanos rompieron sus guitarras en un momento de bronca.

“No le arrojé la guitarra a él, ojalá lo hubiera hecho”, dijo Liam. Él (Noel) rompió mi guitarra, que era un obsequio de mi esposa. En ese momento pensé que era justo pagar con la misma moneda y por eso rompí una de él. Se que suena ridículo, como una pelea de dos viejas”.

Lo mas gracioso de todo, es que luego del ataque de ira, Liam se percató de que la guitarra que había roto no era de Noel, sino un bien común de la banda.

“La guitarra que rompí no era de Noel, era de Oasis. Algo que yo también había pagado. No debí haberla roto”, expresó el pequeño Gallagher a su entrevistador.

Como se va a extrañar el show de estos hermanos dentro del mundo de la música.

Welcome back. Sorry it took awhile for a second update. I’ve been crazy busy with school work. I will be for the next 4 weeks. So my updates will be short and sweet for the time being.

First on my palette of things to mention. Steven Tyler is on the fence on whether or not he should leave Aerosmith. Yes I know it’s probably slightly old news by now. But it’s big news to me. Aerosmith being one of my favourite bands on earth and Steven Tyler being possibly my only favourite performer EVER!

Now the thing that irks me about this sitituation is attempting to find a replacement for Tyler. That is within itself impossible to do and completely stupid to do so. You can’t have Aerosmith without the Tyler. It’s the whole band chemistry that makes Aerosmith, well Aerosmith. Oh and Steven… trust me you don’t need time off… we need you belting out on stage. Done and done. Case closed.

Now as we all know, Noel and Liam Gallagher of Oasis never got along. they made great music, but they just didn’t hit it off. Finally Noel decided to depart from Oasis. Currently Oasis is still split. But Liam and other fellow Oasis memebers continue to create music together.

Hole’s back but with only one member? Courtney Love has decided to release her most recent album under the band name of her previous band ‘Hole’ but none of the original Hole members are on the album. Now for me this seems a tad selfish on Courtney’s part. The name ‘Hole’ was created to represent a band of members creating music not just one. I wonder if any of the Hole members will receive any money from Love’s album sales?

In den kommenden Monaten wolle die noch namenslose “neue” Band auch schon live auftreten. Zu Bruder Noel hatte Liam nicht viele gutes parat: so sei dessen schon Ausstieg länger geplant und “feige” gewesen. Aber er empfand den Streit, bei dem Noel Liam zufolge eine sehr persönliche Gitarre von ihm zertrümmerte, als nicht so schlimm wie vorhergehende.

Liam Gallagher was interviewed on Friday by Italian radio station Radio Deejay, and he told the station that he would be playing live shows in the near future. He said:

“I’ll be back doing that [playing live] within a couple of months. I’ve just done a tour, I always miss singing songs. I miss the people.”

Gallagher also admitted that he is writing new material with his former Oasis bandmates, except for his now-estranged brother Noel.

And Liam discussed Noel’s departure from Oasis, saying:

“To be quite honest, I think our kid [Noel] wanted out. But you’ll have to ask him when he comes in and does his little solo thing. We had an argument – but we’ve had bigger ones, about more important people. Basically, I think he wanted out, wanted something different, but he hadn’t got the bollocks to tell the band or the fans.”

Liam revealed that the stories of he and Noel smashing each other’s guitars was true. He said:

“I didn’t smash it [the guitar] on him, I wish I had, man. He sort of… treated my guitar poorly, which was a present off my wife. So I thought it was only fair to pay the compliment [back] so I smashed one of his. It sounds ridiculous, like a pair of old women.”

But Liam did own up to a regret about Noel’s guitar that he smashed:

“That guitar of mine was mine. The guitar that I smashed of Noel’s was Oasis” guitar. Part of the thing that I pay for. So I shouldn’t have smashed it really!”

I’m curious to hear the new music that the Gallagher brothers will come up with working apart from each other. However it sounds, I’m sure that both brothers will have a lot to say about it.

Personally I couldn’t care less about the news that Liam Gallagher plans to form a new group with the rest of the recent Oasis members, excluding brother Noel. I’ve long considered Oasis to be one of the world’s most over-rated bands, and they certainly had an over-inflated opinion of their own worth.

 What WILL be interesting is what might unfold about the brand “Oasis”. These days a brand is almost everything in the music industry, more important than the music itself. How often have we seen former bandmates squabble over the rights to the use of a name err brand?  -  most recently Black Sabbath.

Liam would be in his rights to keep calling his band Oasis. He’d already formed the band, named it, was performing under that name when big brother Noel came along and ask to join, with one important proviso, that the band exclusively performs Noel’s songs. And that’s how it’s been throughout that journey, with Liam contributing a few songs in the latter period. So it can be Oasis without Noel legally, but musically can it be Oasis without Noel?

How will fans react to the new band? Or Noel’s inevitable solo career? It’s interesting to remember the fate of Australia’s Weddings Parties Anything. When leader Mick Thomas decided it had run its course the band was clearly his vehicle, dominated by his voice and songs. The music Mick has created since is every bit as worthy as what he did with the “Weddos”, same sound, same everything, but Mick’s commercial standing fell right away immediately and the only reason you can offer is the absence of that brand name. The minute Mick adds to the name “Weddings Parties Anything” to his activities interest increases.

4. Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Kasabian suffered from the sophomore slump with 2006’s Empire. But third album West Ryder… is also the band’s best effort yet. The energy is finally contained — in a good way. On a song like “Fire,” it’s easy to wish you were seeing the band live. And finally, Kasabian have made a complete album. There’s just not much filler here. An interesting instrumental (“Swarfiga”) is about it. It’s a band that might not ever break the United States. Which is unfortunate, because Kasabian is easily one of the best proper rock bands left in the world.

5. Animal Collective – Merriweather Post Pavillion

A Pitchfork fad? Nope. This is Animal Collective’s eighth LP and it’s experimental bliss. Everything sounds like it’s from another planet. One of those albums you must look up the lyrics to just to know what’s going on. For the first time, it sounds as though Animal Collective knows exactly what they’re doing. Precisely. Down to every note. Complete confidence. On first listen, many will think “this is weird.” Only a short time passes before it usually turns to “this is amazing.”

6. Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You

Forget Talyor Swift. Lily Allen is 50 times more interesting and a 100 times more entertaining. Case in point: It’s Not Me, It’s You. Lead single “The Fear” shows Allen’s blunt honesty as she sings, “I want loads of clothes and f***loads of diamonds,” all in that soft British accent. But the album is far deeper than honestly. Allen added some electropop to her second LP, adding to the catchiness of her debut Alright, Still. She even does politics. “Kabul S***” might not make you think for hours, but it’s easy to relate to. “F*** You” is even better, with Allen sounding ever so polite while telling a certain former president what’s what.

7. Metric – Fantasies

It doesn’t get much more slick than this. From “Sick Muse” to “Gimme Sympathy,” it’s hard to see why a bundle of songs here didn’t take radio by storm. Nonetheless, Fantasies deserves to mentioned with the best of the year. On a song like “Blindness,” Metric know when to hold back, letting vocalist Emily Haines take the spotlight with lyrics to sing that are more interesting than on any other Metric album.

In the middle of an Italian radio interview aimed at promoting his Pretty Green clothing line, former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher revealed that he’s currently working on music with all of his old Oasis band mates not named Noel. (Via Billboard.) Their new band, however, won’t be called Oasis. “Oasis is done,” he reiterated, expressing a long-overdue and now factual sentiment.

In the interview, he also mentioned that his new band should start gigging “in a couple of months” and that the end of Oasis climaxed with a guitar smashing session between him and his brother. (Via NME.) Would you expect anything less?

I think Noel is going to fair much better than Liam after all the dust clears from the break up. Who knows though maybe Liam will pull something out of his uni-brow and surprise me.

Now, according to Reuters[1], less than 1 in 8 British men who apply to BeautifulPeople.com are accepted.  On the women’s side the things do not improve: 17 of 20 ladies who have applied have been rejected.

The same source states Swedish men are the ones with better acceptance in the Danish founded website, with 65% percent of the applicants being accepted.  On the other hand, women from Norway seem to be the most beautiful for other users, given that 76% of the Norwegian girls who have applied have been accepted.

Reuters report also says nearly 1.8 million people from 190 countries have been rejected.

So, what is it? Are people from the United Kingdom ugly? The managing director of BeautifulPeople.com gives us the answer:

I would say Britain is stumbling because they don’t spend as much time polishing up their appearance and they are letting themselves down on physical fitness (…) next to Brazilian and Scandinavian beauties, British people just aren’t as toned or glamorous.

We tried to reach Liam Gallagher to get his opinion on such peculiar matter but his representatives were unresponsive so we take it as he is “unavailable for comments”.

Mindez Liam Pretty Green című ruhamárkájának indító buliján történt – ahol egyébként megjelent többek közt Richard Ashcroft, a Kasabian és Liam Howlett a Prodigy-ből, és ahol persze nem jelent meg Liam bátyja, Noel.
