Trotz der Schließung des Nokia-Werks in Bochum Mitte letzten Jahres hab ich mich auch diesmal bei der Verlängerung meines Handy-Vertrages in der finnischen Ecke umgesehen. Im Handy-Vergleich hab ich mich zwar etwas um die Nokias gedrückt – ich finde die Schließung des Werks immer noch völlig unnötig und moralisch nicht vertretbar – hatte aber am Ende dann doch noch eins in der letzten Auswahlrunde. Das andere Modell von SE ist leider ein ziemlicher Plastik-Bomber, also kam nach 2 Jahren Motorola (akzeptiere und du bist glücklich) wieder ein Nokia ins Haus bzw. in die Tasche.

Mitgeliefert war u.a. ein “TV-Kabel”, man könnte auch sagen ein Adapter-Kabel von 2,5mm Klinke (4polig) auf 3 Cinch-Stecker (Ton l/r und Video).

Ich hab das Handy dann irgendwann mal testweise an mein Desktop-Mischpültchen angeschlossen und sofort einen low cut festgestellt. Nach dem ungefähren Frequenzbereich hab ich gar nicht gehört, aber der Cut war ziemlich hoch angesetzt. Das hat mich ein wenig verwundert, denn übers mitgelieferte Headset war der Klang nicht mal soo schlecht wie man es vielleicht erwartet hätte. Ich hab mir erst überlegt, ob das vielleicht doch kein Cut sondern nur eine Absenkung ist (warum auch immer, den Cut kann ich bei den schlechten Speakern gängiger TV-Geräte verstehen) und das mitgelierte Headset das vielleicht ausgleicht. Konnte ich mir zwar schlecht vorstellen, aber Microsoft tut auch viele Dinge, die man sich nicht vorstellen kann…

Jedenfalls, gestern Abend wurde das Thema wieder aktuell. Im Laufe der letzten Woche, so schön sie war, hab ich doch ab und zu meine PC-Boxen vermisst und mir ist eingefallen, dass ich ja dann in PNG 6 Monate ganz drauf verzichten muss. Also schnell mal ne Runde nach In-Ear-Höhrern gesucht. Am Laptop sicher kein Problem, aber wie siehts mit dem Handy aus? Laptop als mp3-Player unterm Arm macht sich auch oder grade dort vielleicht nicht so…

Mir ist aufgefallen, dass man wenn man das TV-Kabel ins Handy einsteckt den Ausgang erst im Menü aktivieren muss. Steckt man das Headset ein, wird ein entsprechendes Symbol angezeigt und der Ton wird sofort vom Handy-internen Speaker genommen und auf den Klinke-Ausgang umgelegt. Wir folgern: Das Handy erkennt aufgrund irgendwelcher Hardware-Eigenschaften, ob das Headset oder das TV-Kabel angeschlossen ist. Fragt sich nur welche Eigenschaften das sind.

Im Headset ist noch ein Mikro, ein Taster (zum Weiterschalten im Music Player) und es dient als Radio-Antenne. Das in Verbindung mit einem Klinkenstecker schreit natürlich förmlich nach einem überbrückten Pin. Der Test war denkbar einfach: TV-Kabel ins Mischpult gesteckt, am gelben Cinch-Stecker (Video) mit einem kleinen Metall-Teil die Kontakte gebrückt und den Klinken-Stecker ins Handy. Und schau einer her, da wird uns das Headset-Symbol angezeigt! Das bleibt übrigens auch so, wenn man die Brücke wieder rausnimmt.

Und die Mission war erfolgreich: Der LoCut ist weg. Ich habs zwar nicht gemessen, aber ich könnte wetten, der Pin für die Video-Übertragung (Masse ist in Summe) ist einer der Ringe am Stecker. Kleiner Kurs für die dies nicht wissen: Klinken-Stecker bezeichnet man auch als TRS. Tip, Ring, Sleeve. Die 4poligen Stecker haben dann halt 2 Ringe, müsste also korrekt TRRS heißen. Somit wirds also auch keine Probleme mit In-Ear-Höhrern am Handy geben, denn bei TRS-Steckern in TRRS-Buchsen sind die beiden Ringe dann eh gebrückt… fehlt mir also nur noch ein Adapter von 2,5mm TRS male auf 3,5mm TRS female. eBay sei Dank…

Das Switchen der Lieder konnte ich jetzt mit den Pins am Video-Ausgan noch nicht nachvollziehen; bei Lust, Laune und Zeit – und evtl. Interesse – werde ich mal noch ein bisschen rumprobieren und durchmessen.

Nu ja, heute gehts noch in den Wald zum Holz machen, ich will noch Posaune üben, sollte einen VW-Bus nach einem kleinen handlichen Führerschein durchsuchen, muss noch Termine ausmachen und wir müssen in der Jugendstunde unseren Part an der nächsten Jahresfeier besprechen. Today is 22 March 2008.
This morning after I found out that my desired mobile phone model was having a “2 Day Special” promotion, I immediately rushed down to the M1 Shop @ Jurong IMM to get it. Actually, I have aimed this particular phone model for a long time liao (approx. 6 mths) but I didn’t buy ‘cos the price for it was pretty high back then (hovering ard S$168-S$300). As for this “2 Day Special” promotion, it was selling @ a damn good price of S$118 ONLY! That explained why I got to RUSH down to the M1 Shop…haha.

As seen from the title of this blog i.e. “Back to Nokia”, it should be obvious that my new mobile phone is actually a Nokia one. FYI, the model is Nokia 6500 Slide (Silver). So, what makes me attract to this phone? Basically, there are 4 things which I like about this phone and they are as follows:

1. It’s silvery metallic design (made from stainless steel)
2. Comes with a 2.2″ LCD display
3. Integrated 3.2 megapixels camera with Carl Zeiss optics
4. It’s NOKIA

Well, it may sound a bit contradicting for me given the fact that I USED TO be an anti-Nokia user BUT the key point here is “USED TO”. After having “break up” with Nokia for a mere of 2.5 yrs, I finally “patched back” with her again…haha. IMHO, I feel that Nokia offers a wide variety of reasonable phones (in term of features/functions) @ reasonable prices. Coversely, Samsung mobile phones usually have very limited features/functions and yet they are beri expensive (overpriced I would say). Actually, while I am doing my shopping for a new mobile phone, I do consider Samsung phone again BUT seems like those Samsung’s bad points which I have mentioned earlier still exist even in most of their latest models. So its not that I gave up on them but rather they gave up on themselves for not improving esp. its ringtone volume & sound quality, features/functions, battery life etc. Besides considering both Nokia and Samsung, I also have considered Sony Ericsson but none of its design caught my attention.

Anyway afterall, I hoped I have indeed make a good choice in purchasing the Nokia 6500 Slide. My ex-mobile phone i.e. Samsung E720C has served me well for the past 2.5 yrs and I truly hoped that my new Nokia 6500 Slide can served me BETTER for the next 2-3 yrs.

Der neue Browser basiert auf der Version Opera Mini 4.1 und ermöglicht es, einzelne Ausschnitte schneller und vergrößert auf dem Handydisplay darzustellen. Die Kosten für das Surfvergnügen auf dem Handy liegen bei günstigen neun Cent pro Minute oder für nahezu unbegrenztes Surfen bei 10 Euro pro Monat.

Mit o2 Internet-to-Go sieht der Nutzer die aufgerufenen Webseiten auf seinem Handy in dem Format, wie er es vom Surfen auf dem PC oder Laptop gewohnt ist. Für Kunden, die noch kein internetfähiges Handy besitzen, bietet o2 ab sofort den kostenlosen o2 Internet-to-Go Browser, den man spielend leicht auf das Handy laden kann. Dank Zoomfunktionen und Mauszeiger lassen sich die Inhalte auf dem Handy so darstellen, wie man sie vom PC zu Hause her kennt. In reality the Nokia 6500 slide is a very different mobile from the 6500 classic we tested recently.

Both the Nokia 6500 slide and 6500 classic are 3G quad-band mobiles using the latest version of Nokia’s hugely popular Series 40 platform that’ll be familiar to anyone who’s used a Nokia in recent years.

But the headline features, look and feel of these two models part company soon after that point. Whereas the 6500 classic is a chic, ultra-slim candybar mobile, the 6500 slide is a more substantial sliderphone that has a smart brushed stainless steel casing. The 6500 slide bears more of a family resemblance to Nokia’s high-end N95 smartphone than it does its ‘classic’ namesake.

The Nokia 6500 slide outdoes the 6500 classic again by including a secondary camera for 3G video calling on the front of the phone, above the display – something that’s missing from the classic’s specs.

The screen on the 6500 slide is a larger 2.2-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) LCD display too, supporting up to 16.7 million colours; this provides a bright, clear platform for viewing images, video, web pages and other content. That’s just as well.

The 6500 slide supports all the regular 3G features, including video and audio downloading and streaming, plus Nokia has included in here a couple of browser options – Nokia’s own surfer software plus the small screen-optimised Opera Mini browser.

There’s a multi-format music and video player onboard, which uses Nokia’s latest player user interface. While the Nokia 6500 classic is stocked up with a heavyweight 1GB of internal memory, the 6500 slide goes light on built in memory – just 20MB – but offers MicroSD card memory expansion instead.

Nokia ships the 6500 slide with a 256MB card in the box, although users keen on using the slide for tunes may want to spend a few quid on a higher capacity card. MicroSD cards up to 4GB are supported.

On the music side, the 6500 slide further adds to its attractions with an FM radio inside (another feature absent from the 6500 classic).

You couldn’t exactly accuse the Nokia 6500 slide of being svelte. It measures a solid 96.5(h) x 46.5(w) x 16.4(d) mm and weighs a substantial 123g – a fraction heavier than the N95.

The flip side is that this solidity makes it comfortable to hold, and it doesn’t feel like it’ll slip out of the hand easily. The reverse of the phone reflects the digital camera aspirations of this mobile, with the minimalist brushed metal casing giving it the required compact digital camera look. The weighting and balance of the phone work in its favour as a camera too as you hold it in landscape format.

The controls on this phone are simply laid out and straightforward to use; there’s the regular Nokia navigation D-pad in the centre, a couple of softkeys either side above standard call and end keys. The slip-down keypad has a pleasingly smooth action; keys are simply laid out in the usual grid pattern, and are large and responsive.

The side of the phone sports a camera quick access button that becomes a shutter release when the camera fires up, and there’s a volume up/down key that doubles as a zoom control.
