Alempana muutamia kokeiluja.

<img class="size-full wp-image-574" title="banaani-N810m" src="http://lessormore.wordpress.com/files/2009/07/banaani-n810m.png" alt="Aluperäinen kuva, Nokia 810.

At Nokia World, Nokia showed off the Nokia N810 tablet with 3D capabilities. Thankfully, you’ll be able to see the 3D effect without glasses. Nokia will launch this 3D technology on a mobile phone in the future, but it won’t be the N810 – they’re just showing off the technology. Apparently, Nokia “has been working on 3D phones for ’several years.’”

I bought this device with high – but realistic – expectations, and I wasn’t disappointed! During the 5 months I researched it before buying, I read every article and blog, and watched every video I could find about it, so I had an idea of its capabilities as well as its perceived shortcomings. However, the shortcomings, I believe, came from unrealistic expectations. For example, there is a lot of complaint about the position of the camera on the front of the device rather than on the back, facing away from the user. I wasn’t disappointed in that, since the device is used primarily for video conferencing using Skype (and others). Yes it takes photos, but that’s not the primary purpose for the camera, so I didn’t have expectations to use it as one.
There is a learning curve for me, as I’ve never used Linux before. But it is usable right out of the box even to a windows user like me, very easy to find my way around the device, and even included a getting started video right on the opening screen!
Although I purchased this on March 2nd, my first device was defective. Nokia’s tech support was TOP NOTCH, both on the phone, and via email. They worked with me to get the device returned, and sent a replacement within a few days. This is the first Nokia purchase I’ve ever made but I am so impressed with their customer service that it definitely will not be the last.
Battery life is long, and this has replaced my PalmPilot (games, phone numbers, notes) and Zune (mp3’s, photos), plus my bedside alarm clock and radio. I carry it with me everywhere, and listen to both mp3’s and my favorite interent radio station, depending on the availability of a wifi signal, and can show all of my photos to anyone at any time, more easily than in a photo album. In addition I’m able to keep up with my email and Facebook (use [...] for a mobile version of the site) when I stop somewhere for lunch, and can look up anything on the web on the fly.
The N810 will also connect to the internet via my cell phone using bluetooth, but I haven’t had the occasion to use that feature as most places I go in our small town have wifi and that is primarily why I purchased the device.
I am thrilled with my N810 and it has quickly become a large part of my daily life, from the time I turn off its alarm clock in the morning, until the time I fall asleep listening to internet radio at night! [Read More]

I have been postponing my longer post about the Nokia n97 for too long, so now it’s time to try to get something useful written out. I will not write un-boxing story or post photos of the box and what is in there, you can find tons of those posts from internet. I don’t feel like I should post yet another of those, especially this late after the sales launch..

Nokia N96 and Nokia N97
I posted some thoughts about moving to Nokia N97 from Nokia n97, but I will quickly recap and add some right here.

The size of the Nokia n96 is quite optimal in my opinion. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, even though I’d like see it not as thick as it is. In retrospect it would be quite cool handset if it had touch screen large enough to fill the whole front of the phone; with the slider keyboard of course. When handling the Nokia n97 I was surprised how it felt lighter than the N96 and despite being taller and wider it felt comfortable even in my jeans pockets. This is due to it not being as thick as the N96.

N96 had the annoying tendency to slide open in pocket and since N97 is touch screen and flip-up model, I have not seen this problem again. I am curious to see if the flip-up will loosen in use so much that it will not hold closed, but right now it feels firm and sturdy enough.

The front “glass” of the N97 feels similar to the N96, even though I assume it will be more durable just due to the nature of touch screen: it will be handled more and though will more likely be scratched. I still think getting a pouch for my N97 is a top priority. Now I just need to find a good one. Yes, some of the early-birds did get a similar cover/pouch as E71 is shipped with, but I got mine through channels where only what’s in the box will be shipped..

Nokia N97 in hands
I have used the Nokia N97 for my primary phone now for just over 3 weeks and I think I have gotten used to it and found out what I like about it and what I hate about it.

First of all I feel that touch screen is the right direction! Using touch screen in a mobile phone is exactly where the future of mobile devices is. No matter which manufacturer and which mobile OS, the touch screen is so much more intuitive and natural to use. For example checking your calendar by simply clicking the date on your phone’s screen and the kinetic scrolling of a web page or a menu are things that make using phones with more and more features and apps easier.

I had been using Nokia N810 as my email and web browsing device and had gotten used to having a touch screen and a qwerty keyboard both in use simultaneously. This, I assume, made it easier for me to start using the touch screen in N97. I still don’t think it is difficult to get used to the touch screen even without previous experience. My wife had S40 phone for a long time and had been using S60 phone for only couple months before getting the 5800 XM. She has gotten used to the touch screen quite quickly, even though she is not 100% sure if she likes it or not. But for power users I can recommend phones with touch screens.

Comparing N97 to few other Nokia products

I can compare Nokia N97 only to what I have used extensively, so I will not compare it to any mobile devices I have only used for a week or tried briefly. I feel the comparison would be unfair to both devices in such scenario. I have earlier compared N96 and N97, so nothing more about them right now.

First of all, I will write own post about E71 and N97 since I feel like N97 could be seen as a worthy replacement even for the E71.

I use my N97 as a replacement to both, N96 and the N810 Internet Tablet. For the tablet part, I think the N97 has performed well. The screen in N810 is larger, but I feel that the touch screen responsiveness is not as good as in N97. The edges of N810 screen do not register the touch nearly as well as the edges in N97. The N810 keyboard felt bit better and it had REAL Scandinavian qwerty, not ÄÖÅ behind the function/fn key. This is the most annoying thing in N97. In Finnish these letters are used quite extensively, and the symbol key is right next to this function/fn key causing quite often mis-strokes. Other than that I am very pleased at the keyboard, even though it is not the best Nokia has produced. I would’ve loved to see something that is between E90 and E71 keyboard: E90 keyboard with E71-ish little “bumps” on the keys. This way they would’ve managed to squeeze in the scandic letters too. Or the N810 kind of keyboard..

As you can see from the comparison picture of N810 and N97, there would’ve been enough surface to have N810 type of keyboard. I cannot say if it would’ve been possible in means of insides and other components though.

For a size comparison, I have also included a photo of N97 next to Nokia 6300. Despite the evident size difference, the N97 is slim enough to fit quite comfortably in a trouser pocket. In feature-wise there really isn’t comparison between these two handsets, since they are meant for different type of use from the design board on..

I do not have much experience using Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. We have one of them in our family, and the user has not been complaining about it. Anyway, I still thought it would be nice to include comparison photos of the two. They both run S60 5.0 and have touch screens. Despite this, in my opinion, they feel as different to use as you might think S40 and S60 feel.

On a note, the baby photos I have posted in the blog since early July are taken with the Nokia N97. The photo quality is quite nice especially in outdoor photos, but as you can see from the “peek-a-boo” photo, some indoor conditions prove to be challenging to the camera. Still not up to par with most of the compact digital cameras, but still one of the better cameras in phones.

Note: all of the photos in this post have been taken with the Nokia e71 phone. I will include camera/photo comparison of the E71 and N97 cameras in the own post about the two phones.

I have been using Nokia N96 mobile phone from early October 2008 as my primary phone. All in all the experience was good, you can read more about that from previous posts and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have questions. I will try to answer them in reasonable time.

Moving data
I received the new Nokia N97 about a week ago and have been using it from last Monday on. First, of course, I needed to copy all the content from the old phone to the new one. There is the handy app that’ll make moving your data from phone to another a breeze! Sure it takes some time to transfer lot of stuff over Bluetooth from a phone to another, but it is still lot more convenient than copying everything on your computer and then copying them from computer to another phone. I did start the transfer in the afternoon and let the phones do their thing and got back at them about 2,5 hours later. I do not know how long it took, but around 450 contacts, 600 photos, web favorites, 360+ sms, 150+ mms, etc were moved along with my personal calendar data.

In the end, I did encounter problems: even though the app informed in N96 that everything was sent and in N97 that everything was received, I had somehow missed nearly 40 contacts which I had to manually move from phone to another. I do not know the reason for this and have not heard that anyone else has had same problem.

Exchange related problem
Later I did set up exchange account on my phone and thought I’d sync the calendar and contact list from exchange as well. Big mistake! By doing this, even though everything was set to keep the phone data, I lost many contacts from the list and few contacts ended up having only the name and nothing else. Try to contact someone without phone number and email addy. This was sorted since I synced the work contacts only once to my phone and my personal contacts to Outlook. I just had to manually go through the list and edit or add contacts.. This seems to be exchange related problem, but it did not affect my work phone, Nokia E71 at all. Difference is that I have only business stuff in that phone and I do nothing (well, almost) personal with it.

Getting to know N97
Nokia N97 was easy to get used to from the start; it took me probably just couple hours of normal use to get hang of where everything is and how they work. Nokia N-series phones have similar logic in the menus etc, so everything was about the same place as they were in N96. Of course the manufacturers do minor tweaking in the new models. Having used few E-series devices, the N-series is bit different, but I feel that N97 is really easy to use wither you come from N- or E-background. Nokia is Nokia is Nokia.

Getting used to the touch screen was not a big deal, I assume because I had been using Nokia N810 for my email, web and other similar needs. The kinetic scrolling, for example makes using N97 a breeze. It is intuitive to use compared to having to click with the cursor or scroll with the buttons. I set the automatic display roll on since I had gotten used to it with my N96. I still would advise anyone not familiar with the feature to first get to know the phone well before setting it on. This feature may get annoying if one is not prepared and does not handle the device so it will not roll the display.

The keyboard feels surprisingly good compared to what one might expect from the looks. I don’t really like the design of the keyboard, it looks like something from early to mid 90’s.. Well, not that bad, but the feel does make up some of the appearance.

Software
I did use some of the now installed software already in my N96 and some in my old E90 as well as in my work E71. For your annoyance, here’s small-ish list of the software currently in my N97 and in use:

- AccuWeather.com: it was pre-installed and I found it useful since the casts are close enough and the app shows the weather according to my location, using the gps.

- Facebook: this is another pre-installed app. It is quite useful, but lacks the ability to “like” someone’s status. It also somehow gets confused when I get out of wlan range. In such case it will prompt me that the app is unable to cnnect to wlan and does not connect to 3G network. I had to force it to use 3G..

- OviMaps 3.0: I installed this since it is update to Nokia Maps 2.0 (?) that was in the phone when I got it. I have not used it yet since I have few navigation license related problems, but they are handled by representative.

- Traveler: Psilocs good old traveler now comes with the phone! It looks nice and works well. I use its world clock, exchange rate and weather features. Weather as a “second opinion”.

- Qik: I found this only a little while ago, but it is really nice little app and service. The app is tied to Qik service where you can stream live video and the video is stored there for later viewing. You can define if and how accurate location info is attached to the video and you can share Qik videos straight from the Qik app to twitter, facebook, etc.

- Google Maps: I am using this quite a bit, especially because of the Latitude! Share your location live with your friends in Latitude. Nice, sometimes even useful feature!

- Eat.fi: Greater-Helsinki area dining guide. Uses gps signal to show you your closest restaurants and cafes. You can get more info about the restaurants by clicking it in the list. Has been useful especially at lunch time.

- Pixelpipe: I currently use this exclusively for my online photo sharing. It is possible to register your social networks, etc. in there so by sending to Pixelpipe it forwards the media to your selected services. Services include ie. Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, Flickr, etc.

-FriendView: I am using this occasionally even though I don’t have friends using it. Similar to Google Latitude, but from Nokia.

- TweetS60: twitter client. I really loved in in N96, but there are few issues with N97. The software works well, but is bit slow. I don’t know if I have wrong version, but it did not directly support S60 5th Edition.

- Battery Extender: handy little app that has saved me few times with my previous E90 and N96 as well as with my work E71. Gives you power saving settings and profiles for your phone. Really useful and version 1.10 works well with N97.

I had few other apps in the phone just out of curiosity, but for reason or another I did not like them or they were not working well. Good example is this one compass app. It looks amazing, but it never really pointed to right directions in any circumstances. Also the leveler was nice, worked surprisingly well, but I did not find real use for it.

I will later dig deeper into the design, usability and comparisons with other Nokia devices I have had pleasure (?) to use. My user experience with other manufacturers’ phones are from at least 3 years back, so I will not make comparisons to them unless I feel they will provide more information and are relevant.

Until then!

Ok, here’s quick peek at the N97 next to N96.

I have grown into N97 really quickly, but I assume it has to do with me using N810 with the N96. What I mean by this is that I was already using touch screen for web browsing and many other tasks. It took me no time to get used to the touch screen.

On the other hand I feel that the touch screen on mobile phone is logical since it is intuitive to use, no need to clickety-click dozen times to get the cursor on the right link/icon and then click select. Kinetic scrolling is definately the way to go, but I wonder why in some of the menus and apps there still is the scroll bar in use. I can understand it in the menus since you need to be accurate when choosing “Revert to original settings” or “launch nuclear device count down”. You don’t want accidentaly choose those while kinetic scrolling.

i will be posting first feel post of the N97 soon. I assume after using it for about a week I have pretty good idea what it is all about.

Hello!

It’s been a while , really long while.. But I assume you can guess from the previous post what I have had in my mind. And the same little reason kept me away for a while before too.

After using Nokia N96 for about 10 months, I have to say that all in all the experince was pleasant. There were no major problems during this time and some of the encountered problems were self caused. LEt me get together my feeling and thoughts about the N96:

It never failed to deliver what I was after when I got the phone. The DVB-H feature was something I did not think I was going to use that much, especially since there were not too many channels available at the time of aquiring the device, but I ended up watching news while on bus etc. I also found myself watching random video clips with it, but honestly the screen is too small for full feature film..

I used the phone as my phone, sms and mms machine as well as my posrtable camera. I took approximately 100-150 photos per month and I was happy with the photo quality. Also the GS receiver was working well. I used Nokia Maps and Google Maps for navigating around and Latitude to shout out my location to registered friends. I used the Sports Tracker to track my bicycle routes as well as walkngi and car trips, really good for all of these.

For email and internet browsing I used N96 as a bluetooth modem for Nokia N810 which I still like a lot. It is exceptional tool for these uses! With lots of apps available one can customize it to suit almost any needs. ..as long as you remember what the hardware is capable of.

There are few downsides too.. The keyboard felt bit slippery and feel is not that good. the feel got better over time, but still. Also when I had the phone in my jeans pocket, the phone would slide open and start doing weird things by itself.

Also the screen was getting swcratches too easily, but they are minor and will be easy to get rid off with little paste and polish.

Now I have moved on to N97 and have E71 as the work phone. I will write something about them, about available software for the devices as well as do comparisons that are mindless, are not relevant and just make no sense in opinion of many people. But still, I compare them to what I have gotten used to and what I have used previously. N-series and E-series phones ahave different focus, but lot of people use both and get one after another et cetera.

So, bye for now and I will get back to this soon!

He has included not only the latest handset specs (including very latest 5th edition devices such as the 5800 & N97), but also some Maemo devices, namely the N800, N810, and N810 WiMax (which support a Flash 9 browser plugin)

The specs for this phone aren’t listed on the site, so I’ll just do a few pros and cons:

Pro: Looks crazy awesome.
Con: Uses some touch screen technology, which I can’t stand.
Pro: You can search for stuff on Google by talking to your phone, making your phone eerily futuristic, all the while making you appear insane to others who saw you talk to it without dialing anything prior.
Con: Can’t do basic things like video capture, doesn’t have stereo Blue Tooth.
Pro: Utilizes the ancient technology of “buttons”.
Con: Hasn’t a standard 3.5 MM audio jack, but rather uses HTC’s ExtUSB connector (Google’s proprietary piece, I’m guessing). Wtfx with that T Mobil, are you intentionally making this difficult for me?
Pro: Can connect to both 3G AND WiFi networks.
Con: Getting it means I’d have to sign up for a new contract.
Pro: The new contract would be with T-Mobil, and they’re freaking awesome.

Mozilla has released the first beta for their mobile Firefox web browser, Fennec. It currently only works on the “Nokia N810 Internet Tablet running OS2008 (‘chinook’ or ‘diablo’),” but you can also download it onto your computer if it runs Windows, Mac OS X or Linux. Features it includes are the “awesome bar,” nice controls, thumbnailed tabs, extension capabilities, FLASH! and password remembering.

The awesome bar at the top works so that you can see where you’ve been, suggestions and search enginess. The controls and tabs are viewed by swiping all the way to the left (tabs) or right (controls), which keeps in mind Mozilla’s main goal for Fennec, which are to make the best use of the small screen. The controls are to bookmark, back/forward and options, which includes extensions.

A video walkthrough, by Madhava Enros can be found here: [Vimeo], which shows that it’s different than a concept video made a while ago: [Vimeo].

Moore’s Law, the observation that processor speeds double every few years, has hit the other principle, the law of dimishing returns. Once computers can reliably do the following, list below, any increase in processor speed or other tech spec is frivolous:

1. Connect to the web
2. Get and send email, photos, and video
3. Process text, spreadsheets, and presentations
4. Keep track of schedules and tasks
5. View documents, pictures, and video
6. Communicate by voice and video
7. Play music, movies and television
8. Play games
9. Blog

There is really no great need for the latest processors or gizmos once a device can do the above reliably. To make money, you have to innovate or you sell upgrades of broken software. This is why Apple has triumphed by creating a device that does all of the above with panache in a pocketable package. But in getting there it created compromises (12 things I hate about iPhone), which made me try out the N810.

It was after a great deal of research that I finally broke down and purchased the Nokia N810. I had been complaining about the iPhone and its deficiencies, and even with iPhone 3.0 which came out yesterday. Apple has been determinedly avoiding creating a competitor to its MacBook, iMac, and PowerMac’s. This means keeping everything aside from the making of simple emails, playing songs, and launching apps completely hidden.

The N810 is an internet tablet which in many ways is the un-iPhone. It runs a flavor of Linux designed for ARM processors, and potentially the iPod Touch could run it. It has a physical keyboard. I wrote this review on it using LeafPad, an open source project available for free download. Nokia appears to have built the N810 for geeks, because I see no obvious business use. It only connects via wifi 802.11g, although they offer a Wimax version. But it has several things going for it that trump iPhone: the keyboard, bluetooth keyboard capability, and communications via Skype and Google.

First Impressions
The device out of the box is gorgeous. All brushed aluminum in grays and blues that are dressy and corporate. It has none of the tacky garishness of some of the Windows Mobile phones. The slideout keyboard works nicely and there are just enough buttons.I think iPhone doesn’t have enough -particularly a keyboard. There is a forward facing videocamera for chatting and a popout easel stand -perfect for using with a bluetooth keyboard.

Turning On
This is one dislike -the device requires a bootup but the device behaves like a smartphone in that it quickly spools into standby mode which the battery meter will tell you is good for almost a week. Bootup takes less than a minute. I would much prefer instant on. After some use, I realized that you aren’t meant to turn off the machine after bootup. It goes into a sleep mode and you can keep it in standby for days. A tap on the screen brings it back to life. With average use, I’m getting about 7 hours of battery life. This far exceeds the iPhone, which frankly is under-batteried for the ways that I was using it.

Software
The device needed to be upgraded to the current OS version which I had to do via a Windows computer. Not a big deal, and it enhanced stability.

It comes with a very capable web browser that renders full pages quite well. It has a dedicated zoom rocker switch that lets you adjust to comfort level. Also, there is a dedicated full screen button. It has Flash, which empowers this device for web 2.0. Unfortunately, it is an older Flash and some web sites, including Hulu won’t run, but Youtube and videoclips off NYTimes ran okay, if a bit choppy.

Multitasking is smooth and it has copy paste. Pressing the x cleanly ends the program, unlike Windows Mobile which has muddled way of dealing with multiple processes -namely it doesn’t and Windows Mobile devices get easily gummed up.

It works perfectly as a communicator -it notifies you of incoming text messages via skype, google, and aol and presumably msn via a number of programs. Unfortunately, skype’s client doesn’t have video chat yet.

Email is functional and straightforward. The client that comes with the N810 is spare and straightforward, but has a limited feature set. A more feature rich client, Claws Email is available for free download from Maemo.org.

The un-App Store – the Apps are open source and free. What isn’t available are PIM and Office software -I don’t think anything matches the utility of Documents to Go for the Palm OS. Everyone is waiting for someone to port OpenOffice, but I know it will run very slowly. There are some who have hacked Debian or Ubuntu Linux to run on this device but it slows down when programs meant for laptops and desktops run on what is a smartphone.

I have paired an Apple Bluetooth keyboard to it and it is now a very useful netbook replacement.

Media
It will play movies converted to mpegs or wmv’s. It comes with a one month trial of Rhapsody’s music library which is wonderful. I installed a Mini-SD card which had a few albums from my former Treo. With the iTune’s store offering DRM free MP3’s, getting music onto this device is not too cumbersome. The included headphones have a built in microphone for phone calls which work fine as well.

Rationale
Why did I get this when iPhone did most of the things I needed? It has to do with the things iPhone left out: Bluetooth keyboard, copy-paste, multitasking, and builtin-keyboard. I got the N810 through Amazon -not from the mothership but one of the vendors who had it for $250. With Apple Bluetooth keyboard which is very portable and stable, and usable with my other Apple gear, it is a worthy replacement for the Acer Aspire One which I recently sold to a friend.

Why? The netbook phenomena is a giant failure because it has been hijacked by Windows. With Windows XP, these small laptops are just that -small Windows XP laptops with slow processors. Coupled with Vista, these netbooks are completely useless. Microsoft intends on loading these netbooks with Windows 7 that has been downgraded to run only 3 applications.

Right now, I can compose on a very comfortable keyboard or a usable thumbboard in a pinch with a total cost of $325, with all the communcation capabilities brought by Nokia. Very happy. This entire blog entry has been created on the N810, by the way.

The netbook replacement in action

Rhapsody on the N810 is pretty cool because you have access to a large number of tracks and radio stations centered around bands. This rental of music scheme is okay, but I don’t think I’ll keep it. Pandora works! It’s slow, but it works fine. Streaming Sting radio, it comes through with FM quality with occasional very short skips probably related to the processor groaning while I type away.

The media player does a fine job with files loaded onto the internal storage. External storage is in the form of Mini-SD cards. I don’t particularly mind as I have all the adapters, but would have preferred regular SD. I don’t plan on watching movies with it, as the iPod is just too easy to use -iTunes to iPhone trumps ripping DVD’s to the correct aspect ratio, then copying to a mini-SD card -it was okay ten years ago to geek away, but in this day, streamlined delivery of content is a given.

I wish they would update the Flash, as Flash 9 doesn’t work on all sites, particularly Hulu. Also, Netflix is run off Silverlight -and I doubt they’ll release a Linux version anytime soon.

The picture shows the minikeyboard opened -this elevates the display perfectly. The easel stand is a wonderful touch. The Apple Bluetooth keyboard is the same chiclet keyboard found on the new Macbooks and is wonderful to type on. It would be great if iPhone would do the same, but we will never ever see this. They want you to buy a Macbook.

Addendum 3/23/2009
After using it as my netbook replacement for a week, I have been only delighted with it. I use the open source program WordPy to update this blog. Google Documents, though a big laggy when it comes to saving and opening, works just fine and is the office solution that this device didn’t come with. The great thing is that I am now typing on a great keyboard and extremely portable.

I have totally gotten into the internet radio, which for now eliminates my desire to pick up a short wave radio. Hundreds of stations from Hong Kong to Zambia, from Lichtenstein to Kuala Lumpur are available.

I also get much better phone calls out via Skype indoors at my hospital over the guest web connection than I do through the AT&T connection which goes through a repeater. I have to figure out how to get my contacts on the thing though -simply taking outlook contacts and trying to get the N810 to recognize them isn’t working.

Addendum 4/17/2009

After a month of use, I am pleased with the portability of the setup. I do find that certain things run slowly -some web pages take a while to load up where in iPhone Safari -it’s pretty blistering fast. Also, typing on some Web 2.0 pages causes strange stutters in the text. It is much easier to live with than the Acer Aspire One primarily because I didn’t need a small Windows XP laptop in my life. This the N810 does everything that iPhone doesn’t do at all very well. The overlapping functional items -mostly I leave to iPhone because I don’t have too much in the way of non-iTunes related media. The whole idea of using the Acer One as a large video iPod really failed because the video output was laggy compared to the sound.

The N810 is a device to fill in the gap between iPhone and a small laptop. It does this function very well.

If you remember a couple of weeks ago, Mozilla renamed their mobile browser, Fennec, to Firefox. Well, around that time, Fennec was available but in a barely usable state. Now, Firefox Mobile has just hit Beta 1 but is actually only available for Nokia’s internet tablet PC, the N810. It has add-on support already and actually comes with a couple of extensions, which is a nice bonus. Unfortunately, no mobile phones can even use this browser, but it shouldn’t be too long before Mozilla has a working version for handsets. Maybe Mozilla is focusing too much on this mobile browser, hence why we won’t see Firefox 3.5 until June.

If you’re after a way to surf the Internet, process emails, and enjoy the likes of instant messaging, social networking and video conferencing on the go, you can’t do better than the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet.

The 800 x 480 resolution, 4 inch touch screen is gorgeous, perfect for web browsing and watching movies – and the slide out keyboard is decent enough for posting the odd blog entry, composing medium length emails and instant messaging while you’re out and about.

The N810 has no built-in GPRS or 3G connection. Instead it relies on Wi-Fi and a Bluetooth connection to your mobile ‘phone to provide wireless connectivity wherever you are. But it does have a built-in GPS system and pre-loaded maps, in case knowing where you are matters to you.

Nokia launched the N810 back at the tail-end of 2007 and a replacement with – rumour has it – built-in support for a GPRS / 3G is due soon. But, honestly, if you’ve got a decent Bluetooth ‘phone to pair it with, there’s really no need for SIM support or the hassle of managing two mobile accounts.

Which is what makes today’s price-cut anouncement from Expansys so interesting.

They’ve just reduced their price for the N810 to GBP 179.99 including tax. What was already the best Internet tablet on the market is now available at a bargain price.

Tempting, very tempting…

Mielestäni koko laitteella on kesken jääneen tuotteistuksen maku, ainakin osittain. Yksi sellainen on Internetin käyttö.
