How do I configure my S60 device to access an existing Ovi Mail account?

If you do not have an Ovi Mail account yet, you can first go to http://mail.ovi.com on a computer to create an Ovi Mail account. Then you can configure your S60 device to access your Ovi Mail account by following the instructions below:

• Select “Communications” from Menu on your S60 device
• Select Messaging -> Options -> Settings -> Email
• Select Options -> New mailbox
• Enter your complete email address (such as username@ovi.com) and password to connect to your Ovi Mail account

If you are using a N-series device such as N95 or N96, the above steps may not work. In that case use the following manual steps:

• Select “Communications” from Menu
• Select Messaging -> Options -> Settings -> Email
• Select Options -> New mailbox
• Enter your complete email address (such as username@ovi.com) and password
• If you see the message “Email Provider not on the list – search”, click “OK”
• Select “IMAP”
• Incoming Mail Server: imap.mail.ovi.com (secure/SSL port 993)
• Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.mail.ovi.com (secure/SSL port 465)
• Username and password is your name@ovi.com and password.
• Define Access Point (Pick your local Operator)
• Define Mailbox Name as Ovi
• Select Messaging -> Ovi -> Options -> Connect
• It may ask for your email address and password one more time and after that you are ready to start using Ovi Mail

I noticed a lot of Nokia phone users forgot the security code and having hard time figuring out how to reset the code to default settings. Now you can stop the headache because regain or reset the code is easy on BB5 phones. Yesterday I wrote the step by step tutorials regarding this on the Zedge forums after reading the problem of the Zedger is having. So I decided to post this on my blog as well. Hope the tutorials help.  Any question about this are welcome. Now, let’s start on how to regain your forgotten security code back.

Tools Required :
- Nemesis Service Suite (NSS)
- Nokia PC Suite
- Data cable

Regain Your Security Code

Steps:
1. Install Nokia PC Suite
2. Install Nemesis Service Suite (NSS)
3. Connect your phone to your PC with data cable. If the phone prompts, choose default mode or PC Suite mode (DON’T OPEN PC SUITE)
4. Open Nemesis Service suite (NSS)
5. Click scan for new devices button (on top right corner of NSS)
6. Click Phone Info button.
7. Click Scan button.
8. Click Permanent Memory tab.
9. Click Read button.
10. It will read the permanent memory file and save it on the disk at following path.
C:\Program Files\NSS\Backup\pm\<IMEI>.pm
11. Open the .pm file using Notepad.
12. Now scroll until field [308], and on the 5th Record (5=) your security code is saved at there.
13. Like 5=31323334350000000000 (Example)
14. Abandon the red fonts.
15. So, 12345 is your security code. (Example)

Now, here is how to reset your security code.

Reset Security Code

Steps:
1. Install Nokia PC Suite
2. Install Nemesis Service Suite (NSS)
3. Connect your phone to your PC with data cable. If the phone prompts, choose default mode or PC Suite mode (DON’T OPEN PC SUITE)
4. Open Nemesis Service suite (NSS)
5. Click scan for new devices button (on top right corner of NSS)
6. Click Phone Info button.
7. Click Scan button.
8. Under Power Mode, click Local and then click Change button. At this part, your phone should restart, and you should see the text Local mode across your phone screen.
9. Under Production Data Edit, click Read button. The textboxes should now contain values.
10. Check the Enable check box beside Product Code.
11. Click Write button.
12. SelectTools button on top
13. Click Factory Settings tab
13. Tick Full Factory button and click Reset button.
14. Final step, go back to Phone Info and click Normal then Change.
Now your security code should be 12345.

Since you can have the forgotten code back, why want to reset the code to default? LOL.

Apparently these settings work best on E series Nokia phones. I’ve had some trouble with my n95 and n70 so I assume the settings are notmeant for the N series, as they work randomly.

well hopefully you can use these settings. Some may think this app is unpolished and to basic, but in need to not install a third party app I think this app does what it needs. Dont forget you can also use this app fo other servers such as msn, jabber, but I only need it for yahoo and is the only settings I have right now. I have used it with msn but didnt use it for long. It worked fine as well.

Ok so the iPhone is king of smartphones. Lets not beat around the bush…1000’s of apps and an image of coolness that shouldn’t really even be associated with a phone.

But there are others! Google’s Android phones and of course Nokia’s S60. So what applications are there for the Nokia S60 platform? Well below are 5 apps that are definately worth a mention:

Nokia Sports Tracker (beta)

Nokia Sports Tracker is a GPS-based activity tracker that runs on compatible Nokia mobile devices. Information such as speed, distance, and time are automatically stored in your training diary. It recently won the award of ‘Best Mobile Internet Service’ at the Global Mobile Awards

This is great for all sports fans as it allows you to time yourself doing laps and record your route. If you want to run 10k then it’ll tell you when you’ve reached 5k and you can turn around and run back.

The only downside is that this is not available on the Nokia 5800 yet so here’s hoping…

Synble

This allows you to access your phone inbox and contacts via web browser. Get instant notifications of a new messages and missed calls to your computer screen. Be connected to Twitter, get direct messages and @replies as text messages. Send free text messages to your Synble friends from mobile and web. The UI in nokia maps is almost the same as the one in google maps it is simple but it works grate.The features are some what same,

The emerging trend from software companies focused on open mobile operating systems is to capture network value from the phone address book, with cloud offerings accessible from the PC web and mobile phone. The address book on the phone has traditionally been a place to input and access contacts and phone numbers for dialing while on the go. It wasn’t a destination, but a useful resource that once accessed, would allow a user to launch a communication channel. With the growth of social networks, it was realized that the mobile phone address book was perhaps more accurately described as a user’s real social network, and there was huge opportunity to monetize that if you could build out the largest mobile social graph. 

Windows Live gets credit for being one of the first in the market to integrate presence and link to photos from within the native address book application on a mobile phone, but Jaiku was the first to make popular. The Jaiku experience brought in presence and required a user to access from a separate, connected address book application on the phone.  Many people believe the Jaiku acquisition by Google was to get its own version of Twitter for a fraction of the cost, but I wouldn’t dismiss the power of the mobile network address book  and how Google could leverage as it looks to further enhance Android and its cloud services in v2 and v3. Even Jaiku founder, Jyri Engeström, may be signaling that is the case. 

ZYB, a company purchased by Vodafone in May of 2008 for approximately $50M USD, has been focused on building out a network address book accessible from the PC web and mobile phone client based on mapping contact relationships from a phone. 

With the iPhone, it’s amazing to look at how the Facebook and Yahoo OneConnect applications can actually replace the native address book on the phone, while leveraging the network they have built online for users. Instead of simply finding a phone number and address within the contact card, you can see status, recent photos, and access all native communication function directly from within these cloud-based address books, or mobile social networks. 

The Android operating system from Google is perhaps the most obvious signal from any of the giant software companies that they want a relationship with the consumer on the phone and online through cloud services on the PC web. The initial setup of the T-Mobile G1 requires a user to input a Google username and password to sync with Google contacts, calendar and gmail. Once that point is crossed, the customer relationship is with Google, not the operator, and what was commonly referred to in the 1990s with the rise of the internet vis-a-vis brick-and-mortar, as “disintermediation” is now being applied to the mobile industry with the rise of open operating systems. 

There is no doubt that Google, Microsoft, and Apple recognize the strategic importance of disintermediation value that connected services offer, particularly around  the mobile phone address book and PC online services that can be built around it, but in the traditional mobile phone industry, surprisingly there are only three companies who have publicly indicated they are serious about this market. The first is Vodafone with the acquisition of ZYB. The second is Nokia, with its OVI services. Two weeks ago at Nokia World, Niklas Savander, the day 2 keynote speaker said that Nokia had the opportunity to build the world’s largest social graph based on the volume of phones (about 450M annually) and average of 100 contacts per phone. The third is RIM, who is talking a seemingly opposite approach to help the operators reduce its exposure to disintermediation. 

As the Economist noted last week in an article on Nokia’s OVI strategy, the connected services market is finally taking off. Companies without a strategy will be left unable to differentiate their phones & networks, suffer the challenges of disintermediation, and surrender the billions in revenue that this market will create as software innovators like Dashwire power the new generation of connected consumer, social and business services across open mobile operating systems.
