El otro día quise instalar Windows después de haber instalado Ubuntu, asi que reparticione mi disco con el fabuloso livecd de gparted, y supuestamente, ya tenia todo listo para insertar el disco de instalacion de windows y dejar que él hiciera el resto. Me llevé una sorpresa cuando al seleccionar la partición donde quería instalar Windows me marcaba un error de que no podía encontrar una partición donde pudiera instalarse. Intente una y otra vez eliminar y crear la partición que tenía destinada para el Windows sin conseguir éxito. Decidí desistir por ese día y volver a trabajar en mi querido Ubuntu. Fue ahí cuando me lleve una terrible sorpresa, “Insert disk, Operating System not Found”… WTF……..

El problema es que tenía una partición extendida y el espacio que deje para Windows lo puse en esa partición extendida, esto ocasionaba que Windows no se pudiera instalar. Lo que no entendí es, PORQUE DEMONIOS BORRÓ MI TABLA DE PARTICIONES. En fin, para recuperarla hay una excelente herramienta que se llama TestDisk y es muy fácil de usar. También la puedes encontrar en el “Ultimate Boot CD” (fabuloso para toda clase de tareas de diagnóstico y reparación), lo díficil es encontrarla en los menús… :-| bump ..  pero si no mal recuerdo esta en la opción de “Recovery Tools” (yo andaba perdido buscandolo en Partition Tools, Hard Disk Tools, Antivirus jajaja)

Una vez recuperada tu tabla de particiones tienes que vovler a cargar el GRUB en el MBR (asi es, Windows no solo borró la tabla de particiones, reescribió el MBR completamente :@ ) para poder arrancar Ubuntu. Esto lo puedes hacer con cualquier disco de Linux (Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSuse, etc), yo lo hice con el de Ubuntu
Basta con arrancar el liveCD de Ubuntu (seleccionar “probar Ubuntu sin modificar mis archivos”) y una vez que carga la interfaz gráfica, abrir una terminal (Applications->Accesories->Terminal)
Ejecuta el siguiente comando para entrar en la consola de GRUB

sudo grub

Ejecuta

find /boot/grub/stage1

Te va a regresar algo como “hd?,?”, p. ej. “hd0,0″, vamos a usar esa ubicación para el siguiente comando

root (hd?,?)

finalmente ejecuta

setup (hd0)

Nota: El ultimo comando instala el GRUB en el MBR, si quieres instalarlo en una partición utiliza setup(hd?,?).

Listo! Hemos recuperado nuestra tabla de particiones (gracias TestDisk) y reinstalado el GRUB (boot loader).

So last night I decided it was finally time to watch this DVD I’d gotten on Netflix like a million years ago (Man On Wire = good, watch it).  So I go in my room, get the DVD, and then in the living room proceed to putz around for a few before settling down to watch the movie.  I bet from getting the movie from my bedroom to actually being ready to watch it, lets say 15 minutes passed… and when i went to put it in I COULDN’T FUCKING FIND THE DVD.

I mean I just lose shit.  Not my sanity, or my mind or my marbles… but physical things, I lose them all the time and in all different ways.  You could say, that I actually am a loser.  So this morning while I was laying in bed, I started thinking about all the different kinds of losing I do and in an unsuccessful effort to fall back asleep, I categorized them.

First we have Everyday Losing.  This is where items that I lose everyday are categorized.  Everyday I lose my keys, my metrocard, my cell phone, and most certainly without a doubt forget where i’ve decided to keep my building security card for the day.  The important thing about everyday losing though, is that its ramifications are minimal.  My loved ones might find it annoying, but Everyday Losing usually results in me finding said item within say 1-2 minutes of announced loss.

When said item is not found, that’s when we have Serious Losing.  Serious Losing is the permanent loss of something I use every day… like my office keys which I just had to get replaced recently.  Other then the office keys Serious Losing has not taken place in over a year I’m proud to say.

Next we have Seasonal Losing, that’s pretty self explanitory.  Every winter its a few scarves, a hat, and always one, JUST ONE glove.  Every spring I lose my black hoodie when I take it off because I’m too hot (this can also be lost in the fall).  In the summer time, I lose sunglasses… but those are okay because they usually only cost $10 from a street vendor.  I’m sure if somebody buys me expensive sunglasses I will never lose them.

Then, we have the worst kind of losing… Mystery Losing.  I hate to admit it but most Mystery Losing is a result of me putting things in what I like to call “a safe place”.   However for me “safe places” are usually a random box, the corner of a drawer, the one place I’ve never put anything til now.  So, I forget where the “safe place” is and then the item is Mysteriously Lost.   However, sometimes Mystery Losing is NOT my fault.  Currently I have Mysteriously Lost my favorite black tank top (you all know it, its my summer uniform) and a few months ago I Mysteriously Lost a bottle of vitamins.  These I take no blame for.  I think elves stole them.

And lastly, there is I’m a Fucking Moron Losing… which brings us full circle to the DVD, which was in the pocket of the hoodie I was wearing.

I then began to play around with permalink structures

I think the error is something to do with me writing a custom permalink: from default to /index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/. This then give me the the 404 error stating that wp-login.php was not found on this server!

I try to find the answer with google, and i found the article to solved my problem,here i give the resolved if you don’t want to read the article.

If you have access to the site via FTP, then this method will help you quickly get a site back up and running, if you changed those values incorrectly.

1. FTP to the site, and get a copy of the active theme’s functions.php file. You’re going to edit it in a simple text editor (like notepad) and upload it back to the site.

2. Add these two lines to the file, immediately after the initial “<?php” line.

update_option('siteurl','http://example.com/blog');
update_option('home','http://example.com/blog');

Use your own URL instead of example.com, obviously.

3. Upload the file back to your site, in the same location. FileZilla offers a handy “edit file” function to do all of the above rapidly, if you can use that, do so.

4. Load the login or admin page a couple of times. The site should come back up.

5. Repeat the above steps, but remove those lines. IMPORTANT: Do NOT leave those lines in there. Remove them immediately after the site is up and running again.

If there is no functions.php file in the theme: Create a new text file called “functions.php”. Edit it with notepad, and add this text to it, using your own URL instead of example.com:

Upload that to your theme directory, then proceed as stated above. Remove the file afterwards.

and then i can resolved my problem and my site running again normally.
