Those eyes that have never seen grand parents get divorced after 50 years of happy marriage to fit into a medical program that forces them to sell off life long hard earned assets before they can qualify.

Yeah this post is for you, the one person I have never met that believes that health prevention is a bad idea for single mothers who work two jobs so they don’t have to accept Welfare.

You, the one who hasn’t noticed all the new part time jobs cropping up that don’t offer benefits with 39 hour weeks.

What kind of imbicilic, fear mongering, corporate controlled, beneficiary of Insurance and Pharmaceutical Industry propaganda argues that Universal Health Care is a bad idea?

What kind of McCarthyist, ass kissing, finger pointing, closet sociophobe really believes this country would go to Hell in a Socialist Hand basket if we used our tax dollars to keep our people healthy after busting the nonexistent budget trying to kill them off in oil for profit wars?

What pathetic excuse for a member of society would even whisper that they don’t want their tax dollars going to disease prevention for the working class who are breaking their backs to keep those tax dollars flowing into programs that benefit everyone but themselves.

Seriously, are you really arguing here about NOT providing healthcare to every human being that needs it?

Keep people afraid of their medical chart being controlled by the government.

Tell them about the big bad Bureaucracy boogie man—like HMO’s don’t have Bureaucracy.

Scare them into believing they will be on waiting lists for a kidney—like Blue Cross doesn’t reject a claim three times before the pay it.

Go ahead and slip that Religion tarnished, shamed by ignorance, abortion issue into the decision making so being healthy correlates with morality!

Do you REALLY believe we won’t even notice our wallet has already been stolen by your lobbyist pals?

Maybe American citizens and workers should be considered a Special Interest Group.

We might get our needs met on the agenda before you and your party crashers.

Profiteers like yourself, who have no qualms about exploiting humans for dollars to pass around for elitist opportunities and corporate agendas make me uncomfortable and give me dis-eases.

You, who drive a limousine through working class and low income neighborhoods, pretending to empathize make me sick.

But I can’t see a doctor about it—got no health insurance.

What’s the matter with you?

Have you run out of that expensive medication that takes you to your happy place?

What do you mean, you don’t want healthcare for your friends and neighbors, for everyone in this country?

What do you got, a secret stash of kidneys and a chemo kit of your own?

You don’t ever have to worry about health insurance, huh?

You probably wouldn’t give your neighbor a band-aid for free if he needed it, would you?

Well, I’m thankful you don’t need a kidney—or a medication to treat your social disorder.

But I don’t trust you with my kidney—or my wallet, or my social order.

Why in the world must there be foods one once enjoyed that now set off gasapooloza? More importantly, why are there people in the world over the age of 8, who don’t have the common decency to release their gastrointestinal emissions elsewhere? As in FAR away from me and my hapless nose???!!!!!

There are bathrooms, outside where no one else is, taking some TUMS, whatever! Just control yourself. Interestingly enough, if the offended party rats out the gas monster, the offended person’s olfactory senses must hold and bear it, or risk looking like a jerk.

I’m sorry but that’s just bad manners. I’m not related to any one these random gas emitters, so why should I have to bear it graciously? It isn’t easy being the one to correct social faux pas like telling someone they have something in their nose, or they smell bad, or have something in their eye.

Ugghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m grossed out just thinking about it. But if by chance I’m walking around looking crazy or am less than fresh for some odd reason, I’d want someone to tell me. Yet we all grin through gritted teeth and avert our eyes. Well most of us do.

Kudos to the brave ones who can speak up and spare a friend or perfect stranger from further embarrassment. I am NOT that person…

Re: Diversions – Brazilian TV Host Charged With Murder

Last Thursday, your “funny news” segment, Diversions, ran a piece about a TV host charged with Murder. This was a very disturbing news item and deserved to be treated with respect, rather than run with the light-hearted music that usually indicates silly animal stories or similar. I expect more from NPR than from the mainstream media, which routinely treats other people’s suffering as food for entertainment. Please refrain from using any other murders as “diversions”. NPR stations depend on the confidence of their audience to stay afloat. With stories like these, they may lose dollars, as well as the faith of your listeners.

I was in a restaurant in Norfolk having  delicious Seafood with my sister.  All was going well until my sister suddenly gasped and said ‘Big Siss, I can’t breathe’  Suddenly everything went down hill very fast, she thought she was having a allergy attack and we called an ambulance.  However, luckily for her (although horrid at the time) she was actually having a panic attack.

Now, why I am writing this on my BLOG is because the question came up as to what would happen if she had been anaphylaxis.  I found out that Restaurants are not allowed to carry one of the ‘epi’ pens that are used to inject adrenaline into the patient (who is unable to breathe due to the immense swelling that is caused in the throat).  It has to be done by a trained medic.

There is a huge problem with this.  The ambulance we called took 50 minutes, they sent a wonderful pre ambulance lady to help, but she did not have the relevant pen.  Basically my sister would have died if she had been in allergic shock because of the speed of chocking.

Once the ambulance lady arrived, she was actually in a car, not an ambulance, so that would also have been hopeless.  Now, the story gets better, she DID have an epi pen with her,  but advised us that she was not trained to use it.  So I asked naturally who on earth was supposed to administer this life saving prick in the arm.  This was her reply ‘ we would prepare the pen and put it onto the table for the invalid to inject themselves’.

I hope at this point you are as shocked as I was.  The NHS rule is that Someone who is literally being strangled is supposed to inject themselves in the arm, having never done it before (I am asuming you would not know you were anaphylaxis) and yet the medic who is intelligent enough to be able to administer this simple drug is not allowed to, for fear of reprimand or backlash.

This is a website to look at if you need help but I am just praying that we as a nation will start seeing sense and looking past the paperwork and red felt tips.

In his book Gödel, Escher, Bach, Hofstadter hints at what he believes gives rise to humour in human brains. Humour, he says, is a subversion of expectations. When we are amused, we are also surprised. In a hypothetical model of the brain’s functioning, he attributes this to a trip down an unfamiliar neural pathway- like a tour across a version of your country that has all the city and highway names mixed up. (The latter bit sure doesn’t seem funny to me.)

This post is an attempt at this “subversion of expectations”. I’m no good at engineering such twists, though, so I sought help from the all-knowing Google overlords. I figured that the first person to have his expectations flipped over and kneaded by this exercise ought to be me.

That’s enough hinting, I think. What do you think happened to this piece?

I already found this Mad TV video a few months ago on Youtube and it’s really funny.

But after having heard about the latest announcement/idea of Ryanair (read about it e.g. here or here) this scenario doesn’t feel so absolutely unimaginable any more…

Simt ca mi-e frig..dar nu orice fel de frig..mi-a intrat in oase si-n fiecare participa a corpului si nu reusesc sa ma incalzesc pentru ca nu e frig fizic ci e mai mult psihic, simt ca trupul si creierul au renuntat sa mai lucreze impreuna, simt ca teama se transforma in frica, in disperare. Si nu e doar frigul, mai e si tremurul salbatic care m-a cuprins si care imi zice in fiecare clipa ca mi-e rau, ca in curand voi claca.

Ma gandesc de unde si de ce senzatia, poate pentru ca am doar idei pesimiste si creierul meu se razbuna pe trup pentru asta, sau poate pentru ca nici caldura nu mai merit sau merit doar dezastru. Sunt trista si daca nu se vede, se simte…renunt incet, incet sa mai sper pentru ca aparent nu am in ce. Mi-e teama de viitor, mi-e teama si de secunda ce urmeaza pentru ca nu-mi poate aduce satisfactii ci doar adevarul, care e crud, care doare!

Nu am nimic acum…nici dragoste, nici incredere, nici speranta, nici dorinta…sunt seaca si fara rost! Afara ploua, in suflet e intuneric, in minte ceata si in inima tristete… Vreau acum o secunda de liniste, o clipa de placere..cer prea mult?

Nu plang, nu mai am lacrimi. Nu rad, pentru ca nu am motiv. Nu spun nimic, pentru ca totul e o minciuna. Nu cred, pentru ca nimic nu e concret. Nu vad, pentru ca ceata e prea densa.

Nu pot…nu vreau..sau nu exista?
