Modafinil According to Wikipedia.com (quote) Modafinil (Provigil, Alertec, Modavigil, Modalert, Modi

Modafinil

According to Wikipedia.com (quote) Modafinil (Provigil, Alertec, Modavigil, Modalert, Modiodal, Modafinilo, Carim, Vigia) is an analeptic drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of narcolepsy, shift work sleep disorder and excessive daytime sleepiness. The European Medicines Agency has recommended that in Europe it be prescribed only for narcolepsy.

Despite extensive research into the interaction of modafinil with a large number of neurotransmitter systems, a precise mechanism or set of mechanisms of action remains unclear. It seems that modafinil, like other stimulants, increases the release of monoamines, specifically the norepinephrine and dopamine, from the synaptic terminals. However, modafinil also elevates hypotalamic histamine levels, leading some researchers to consider Modafinil a “wakefulness promoting agent” rather than a classic amhetamine-like stimulant. Despite modafinil’s histaminergic action, it still partially shares the actions of amphetamine-class stimulants due to its effects on norepinephrine and dopamine.

Let me clarify: I was well prescribed with Modafinil, I had a distraction problem which was very serious and affected my quality of life. Modafinil, if taken like the doctor tells you to, can be a great life changer. For good.

I was just very appaled by the fact that a simple pill(s) could get me up for more than a day. Be careful what you wish for.

Day 1

It can be summarized at ‘whatthefuckdidijustdoallday’. I was so massively productive. I took a half the moment I woke up along with my anti-depressant, and it is like a massive will dose. Typing and typing and typing. I ended up doing in 2 hours what would have cost me 6. I took another half at midday, just because I like to experiment with pills (thanks for the heritage, mother) and I didn’t like it, I had horrible chest pains because my heart was beating so fast. I don’t really recall the rest of the day, I just remember I worked my ass off – and it felt I had done nothing.

Day 2

I take sleeping pills to, well, sleep. I usually take half a miligram. That night I took 2,5 miligrams and could sleep at 4 AM… to wake up at 7 AM. I took 1 modafinil pill and made my whole website (having very poor knowledge about WordPress) from 7 AM, trying everything until it looked like it does now (which I am not really satisfied, by the way, but it is presentable). I got my first post up approximately at 2 PM. Afterwards, I had two more modafinil pills at once because I got into an argument with someone – that night I had horrible chest pains, and I wasn’t as productive as Day 1. At the end of the day, I stay at my cousin’s house “to sleep”, but since I did not take my sleeping pills, I didn’t sleep – at ALL. I was rolling in bed from 1 AM to 5 AM, then I got into her Macbook and waited for her to wake up and open me the door. A sweetheart, as always.

Day 3

This day went very well, despite the fact I hadn’t slept at all. Good things happened. There was a lot of love. But not because of Modafinil.

The experiment was a complete failure – it’s not worth having your body up if your brain cannot function well (or function at all, like Day 3). Plus, I lost like five punds in 3 days because YOU FORGET TO EAT.

How did I on the end of Day 3?

Don’t ever experiment with medication. It is bad for your health and it can have nasty consequences – even death.

I will follow my friend Paul’s advice: a healthy life is the way to go. I loved the healthy sandwich I ate with him today!

The only thing I know is… I will sleep like an angel tonight.

PS. So no one of you gets offended, I just want to clarify that I am a writer and this is a completely made-up story. I do take Modafinil, but would never be irresponsible with medication. It’s just a writing piece for entertainment purposes.
