This morning when I woke up, I logged onto the internet.

This evening when I returned to boot up again and log on, no dice. My wireless indicator light was off, so I figured I must have bumped the switch. I turned it to on. The orange light of doom was still glowing. Orange means the wireless is off. Blue means the wireless is on.

The orange light was mocking me.

So I fiddled with it some more. I used my Blackberry to Google why the wireless wasn’t turning on, and the orange light remained. Ironically, I came upon a forum where a member referenced my exact model of HP laptop and said they had experienced the same problem and that their calls to HP Customer Service were futile. (I’ve heard that about them.) They also said they’d taken the laptop into a repair store and decided the $150 diagnostic fee was not even worth it.

I glanced over a few more articles on the Crackberry and decided my best bet was the cheapest route (thank goodness for that)… I headed out to purchase a wireless adapter. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to get installed and working, but after an hour of frustration, I got it. So, that’s that. I no longer have the ease of built-in wireless, but at least my computer is still working and able to function online with the adapter. (And I had a $20 reward certificate from Best Buy to use up, so it cost me half the price)

Technology. I love it. And I hate it.

Ohayou minna-san!

Genki desu ka?

Just some months ago, MK’s laptop crashed for the first time. I was a nervous at first but when it recovered, I just brushed it off. After some weeks, it crashed again. And again. I can’t remember just how many times my laptop has crashed so far, but I know that it has started crashing more and more often.

The other day, my dad came home and he, my brother and I were hanging out in my room. My laptop was on, of course, and I think I was showing them something online when it crashed once again! But this time, when I tried to turn it on again, it just showed that scary black screen, kinda like this one.↓

Only, mine was empty and just said "Operating System not found"

When I saw this, MK became a bit panicked. I tried pressing the Enter-key but ever time I pressed it, another “Operating System not found” would just show up. Again and again.

So, I was forced to shut down my laptop by force.

Tip: For those of you who aren’t great with computers (like my mom), you might have experienced times when you are unable to get your computer to respond, therefore, also unable to get the computer to shut down. In such predicaments, try holding down your computer’s power button for about 5-7 seconds. The computer will shut down forcefully.

Anyway, so once MK’s computer was down, I proceeded to pray and ask God to restore my computer back to normal, even if just for a short period of time so that I could get my files backed up.

Of course He heard my prayer and allowed my computer to start up normally again.

But now I know that I should really look into a new laptop that I can buy soon, because my dad said it probably won’t be long before it happens again, and it might not start up again!

So, MK has been looking into some laptop-candidates.

Of course, as I’ve said in a previous post, a Macbook/Macbook Pro is one of MK’s laptop candidates.

Macbook Pro!

For a long time, I’ve wanted a mac because I think Mac are superior to Windows for multiple reasons. I also love how macs are so good at creative stuff. Macs are just like, the world’s coolest computers.

Of course, I do agree with people who feel macs are overpriced. But I think macs are kinda like luxury vehicles. You pay extra for the fact that it’s a mac and it’s got the world-famous apple-logo on the lid. It’s possibly just a mind-share thing.

But anyway, if I were to buy a mac, I’m pretty sure I’d buy a 13″ Macbook Pro. Because I’ve always loved the size of the 13″ White Macbook, and obviously this one is the same size, only much better build and much better specs.

But to be realistic, I don’t know if my parents would buy me a mac at the moment since it’s at such short notice plus our family’s currently going through a difficult time financially.

So, MK has turned her eyes to some less costly candidates:

1. Sony Vaio CW-series
2. HP Pavilion dm3z series
3. Dell Inspiron 14

Those are the candidates I have seen and am looking into at the moment. If you know anything about any of these candidates, let me know please, I need all the info I can get.

MK will report back to minna-san in the near future with some more information and thought about these and maybe some more laptop candidates!

But for now, I have homework to do!

Ich musst doch etwas stutzen, als ein Kommilitone in Mathe, nur eine Reihe vor mir, auf meinem Handy zu tippen begann, mit meinem Notebook auf den Knien.

Dann kam der Bling!-Moment. Na klar, er hatte nur das gleiche Equipment (später haben wir noch abgefahrene andere Gemeinsamkeiten entdecken können).

Doch in einem war er mir weit voraus. Mein Mac war bis eben in grau/schwarzes Neopren gekleidet gewesen. Seiner in edlen Filz.

Jetzt schläft auch meiner in einem “Hirsch&Söhne” Schlafanzug, handgenäht von meinen (wohlgemerkt BWL!) Kommilitonen.

Zu Beginn war es noch etwas irritierend, dass die Menschen nicht mehr auf den Mac (ist in der Uni aber auch nichts besonderes mehr, da hat jeder einen, nerv!) sondern auf die schöne Hülle schauten.

Aber lassen wir ihn mal zu Wort kommen. Mein Mac nach einer Woche im “Hirsch&Söhne” PJ:

möchte es nicht mehr missen, in Filz zu schlafen und genieße es, nichteinmal mehr aufzuwachen, wenn Bene mit mir Rad fährt.

- Ten Dollars Laptop -

Setelah mendapatkan kesempatan untuk menggunakan berbagai jenis laptop (kecuali Fuj*tsu) dan melihat perkembangan laptop akhir-akhir ini. Saya akan merilis laptop idaman atau impian saya, tetapi jangan berharap laptop ini muncul dipasaran lho … hehehe. Saya mengambil bagian-perbagian dari segalam jenis merk tentunya. Ingatkah ketika anda ingin membeli sebuah PC-Desktop? anda akan mengatakan kepada sang empunya toko : “saya ingin motherboard merk A, processor B, memory C dengan kapasitas sekian GB, graphic card merk D dengan seri xyz, monitor E ukuran K“, hardisk merk F size nTB, dll. Sejurus kemudian sang penjual mengatakan “ini listnya, dan harganya sekian“. Proses tawar menawarpun bisa terjadi untuk menurunkan atau menaikkan spesifikasi kebutuhan sesuai dengan budget yang tersedia.

Berawal dari cerita itu, saya akan mengusung laptop idaman/impian saya. Semoga suatu saat memang dapat kita membeli laptop sesuai keinginan yang kita butuhkan. Kalo perlu juga belinya gak usah pake OS sekalian, biar user dapat memilih sendiri OS yang akan digunakan.

Casing : Untuk casing saya mempercayai casing Len*vo Th*nkpad. walaupun bentuk yang jadul, dengan setiap sudut yang runcing, tidak membuat saya memalingkan perhatian dari casing ini. Ketahanan dan keamanan data dapat dicover oleh casing thinkpad menjadikan alasa utama saya memilihnya. Untuk ukuran yang dibutuhkan, 12″ menjadi favorit saya.

Keyboard : Pilihan keyborad saya jatuhkan pada laptop Ac*r Aspi*e atau Ac*r Ferr*ri. Tuts yang sangat empuk, membuat jari-jemari kita betah menari-nari diatasnya.

Track Pad : Tanpa pikir panjang, multi touch pad M*cBook sudah pasti terpilih. Kemudahan yang ditawarkan dengan hanya menyentuh track pad via berbagai jumlah jari, gesekan dlsb membuat saya tertegun dengan teknologi mereka. Bayangkan, untuk menscrol web page, kita tidak perlu repot. Cukup dengan menggerakkan 2 jari kebawah dan keatas layar.

Layar : hmm… sebenarnya cukup bingun dalam memilih layar pada laptop. Karena hampir keseluruhan layar memiliki kesamaan. Tetapi jika harus memilih, pilihan saya tempatkan pada laptop S*ny V*io VGN seriesnya. Layar yang bening dan tipis menjadi andalan S*ny dalam bidang ini.

Oke, sekarang kita beranjak kebagian dalam atau isi dari laptop ini.

Processor : sudah pasti processor akan dimiliki oleh Int*l Corp. Dengan spesifikasi Int*l Core 2 Duonya. Pokonya yang paling mutakhir dan yang paling cepat klo soal processor .

Hardisk : Pilihan hardisk saya berikan pada SSD, terserah merknya apa. Jika memungkinkan SSD yang bermerk WD (West*rn Dig*tal). Keuntungan yang didapat banyak sekali. Selain akses ke data yang sangat cepat, karena ketiadaan read/write head. Selain itu SSD dengan kapasitas kecil juga dapat menghemat tenaga dari laptop kita. Sayangnya ada beberapa kekurangan dari SSD ini, selain kapasitasnya yang masih terbatas, tidak sebesar Magnetic Hardisk, harga yang dijual dipasaran juga masih sangat mahal.

Memory : DDR3 mungkin pilihan yang sangat tepat saat ini . Untuk kapasitas, so pasti disesuaikan dengan keadaan dompet, hehehe dan kemampuan dari moterhboard dan chipset dari laptop yang kita miliki.

Graphic card : sepertinya saya lebih mempercayai merk besutan nV*DIA dengan G*FORCE GT nya, selain power full. nV*DIA juga mampu menghemat penggunaan daya dari laptop kita.

DVD Multi atau bahkan blueray player internal sudah pasti harus ada pada spesifikasi laptop tersebut ^^. Hmm… apalagi yah yang perlu dilengkapi? Untuk OS tidak akan saya cantumkan saat ini. Mungkin akan saya urai kegunaan beserta kelebihan dan kekurangan OS yang sedang berperang saat ini. Terlebih lagi, google juga telah menabuh genderang perang pada bidang per-OSan ini dengan Chrome OS nya.

Ich werde jetzt erstmal etwas über die Webcam schreiben, dann natürlich auch ein paar vergleichende Fotos hochladen.. bitte nicht erschrecken, die von der alten Webcam (Logitech Quickcam 9.5) sind schon fast 3 Jahre alt. Danach noch ein paar allgemeine Punkte die mir so aufgefallen sind. Außerdem habe ich, bitte oben schauen, eine Unterseite erstellt, auf der ich alle Testergebnisse zusammenfasse, damit eine grobe Übersicht entsteht. Natürlich lohnen sich die Blogeinträge trotzdem

Hier jetzt erstmal die beiden alten Bilder und anschließend einige neue, ich behaupte einfach mal, man erkennt den Unterschied sehr deutlich. Mir gefällt vorallem die nette Bildchen Funktion, damit könnte ich ewig herumspielen und dass die Kamera scharf stellt, wenn man sich näher heranbewegt. Ein Video folgt dann die Tage einmal.

Weitere Dinge, die mir aufgefallen sind:

• Win7 hat einen schönen Startbildschirm.. na klar, unglaublich wichtig : D
• Zum Hochfahren braucht es in etwa genauso lang wie mein Desktop PC, ich mess die Tage mal.
• Es gibt im Vergleich zu WinVista die Sidebar nicht mehr, in der man Widgets ablegen kann (Notizzettel), stattdessen geht das auf dem ganzen Desktop, schön!

Außerdem hab ich natürlich erstmal Mozilla Firefox installiert, sowie ICQ, als die ersten, wichtigsten Programme.. *hust*

Eu acreditava que poderia rodar tudo no Ubuntu usando o VirtualBox, ledo engado. Bom, o VirtualBox é um aplicativo fantástico que permite que você instale um novo Sistema Operacional dentro do seu próprio sistema. A ideia de maquinas virtuais não é nova e não necessariamente é inútil, só que não serve para tudo. Breve vamos aprender aqui a usar o VirtualBox e todas as suas configurações e funções.

Vamos ao que interessa, formatando a maquina e instalando os dois sistemas operacionais.

Fiz todo este processo em um Itautec W7645, Celeron 2gb, com 160 HDD e placa de vídeo integrada da Intel. Atualmente é minha maquina para tudo, o PC de casa morreu e também passo muito tempo na rua, trabalho, faculdade, casa de minha noiva. E acabo sempre com meu note no colo mesmo. Lembre-se que para este processo é aconselhável fazer um backup completo de seu computador, para o processo iremos re-fatiar todo o HD e para não correr o risco de perder alguma coisa, ou você grava tudo em dvd ou então passa para um pendrive ou HD Externo que foi a minha opção.

Os sistemas operacionais escolhidos foram o Windows 7 Home Premium e o Ubuntu Netbook Remix. O Win7 acho que se você está lendo este blog, você deve conhecer, se não conhece, vou  a uma rápida explicação sobre a escolha. Durante anos o Windows XP vem sendo o SO mais usado no Brasil e no mundo a fora, a grande maioria dos usuários se recusa a sair do XP simplesmente porque ele funciona, ele supre todas as necessidades de um usuário médio ou para os usuários de internet. Ele ainda recebe todos os programas atualizados, possui uma gama enorme de desenvolvedores, seja de programas ou até mesmo de temas para deixa-lo mais bonito, então para que sair? Ele é inseguro, instável, passivo de muitos erros e falhas de segurança.

O Windows 7 veio para abocanhar a fatia do mercado que o WinVista não conseguiu, o novo sistema da Microsoft além de bonito é mais seguro, possui diversas ferramentas de acessibilidade que ajudam no dia a dia, e é tão leve quanto o Windows XP. Diferente do Vista que transformava qualquer 2gb de RAM em uma verdadeira carroça. Eu gosto do Windows 7, eu o acho fantástico. Mas ele ainda é Windows e isso o remonta a famosa Tela Azul, Erros de Partição (que foi o que me aconteceu) e uma dezena de outros problemas que só um sistema operacional de retalhos poderia ter. Mas mesmo assim eu gosto dele. Bom, a decisão de usa-lo tem em vista a função que ele terá no meu notebook. Ele será um verdadeiro console de jogos para mim. Infelizmente a Industria possui diversos acordos com Microsoft e Apple de reserva de mercado, assim os jogos que poderiam perfeitamente serem desenvolvidos para Linux, ficam restritos ao Windows e ao OS X.

O Ubuntu Netbook Remix foi uma opção um tanto quanto pessoal. Eu acho ele muito bonito e vem com bem menos coisas instaladas nativamente, é um prato cheio para mim que gosto de sair procurando meus programas e de instalar eu mesmo meus trecos. Bom, ele foi desenvolvido para Netbooks e como o nome já diz é apenas um remix do próprio Ubuntu. Mas é uma distribuição oficial que você pode encontrar para Download no site da Canonical ou então pedir uma copia pelos correios, chega na sua casa em média 20 dias após solicitado, mas agora que os pedidos estão em alta pode demorar mais de um mês.

Escolhidos os sistemas operacionais vamos à pratica. Fatiar o HD, e instalar os dois sistemas.
