Bradford, who actually won the Heisman by barely edging out McCoy, is coming off a frightening injury to his throwing shoulder. McCoy gets to play in front of his home crowd, and is surely pumped up.

My Prediction: I am actually going to go with Oklahoma in this one. These two teams are pretty evenly matched, but the Sooners have the better QB in my opinion, and quarterbacks win games.

#6 USC at #25 Notre Dame- Charlie Weis needs this win badly. His Notre Dame team was absolutely embarassed in last year’s highly anticapated game against the Trojans. In the incredible 38-3 blowout last year, the Fighting Irish failed to move the first down chains until the third quarter. It was total domination by USC.

My Prediction: USC takes the game, but it will be a close one. The Trojans have been here before, under the same circumstances. Matt Barkley will step up and bring back a win for Southern Cal.

#4 Virginia Tech at #19 Georgia Tech- Bobby Dodd Stadium in Georgia will be going wild tomorrow. Virginia Tech is in town to face the Yellow Jackets, and this game will be all about defense.  Both teams score a ton of points. Since their lost to Miami, Georgia Tech has won three straight. The Hokies lost to Alabama in the first week, and that stands to be their only loss so far.

My Prediction: If I could, I would pick the “tie” option. It will be extremely close, but I think Georgia Tech will pull away with the win.

Upset Alert of the Week: I am going to have to go with Texas Tech over the Nebraska Huskers. Texas Tech is the nation’s top passing team, and like I said before, quarterbacks win games, and the Red Raiders have the advantage there.

So time to pack and get my shit together because I have to leave in a couple of hours for Indiana.  Don’t get me wrong..I love to travel but when it’s for business it’s never the same.  Although we will be heading to a ND/Wash football game on Saturday.  It will give my the greatest pleasure to report after the game that Washington wiped South Bend with the Irish.  They are and have been one of the most overrated teams in college football history.  I mean in the 20’s they were pretty good and what maybe late 80’s with the Rocket, the Bus and Zorich.  Of course they did have the Golic bloodlines go through there YEA!!!!  They are stuck in the 80’s, they had a black coach but that was too modern for them, he got canned Weis takes over and wins with his players than tanks for the next 3 years with his recruits.  Over and over they seem to be that guy everyone knows that still talks about the 3 TDs he scored in the league championship game in 88 to win the city title.  All ND has is memories of ghosts of the past.  The only thing I give them is that with those maybe 3 years they have fooled the BCS and NBC into behemoth contracts and rights into the BCS, they can’t even make the damn Copper Bowl, let alone the BCS Championship, what a joke!!!

“Fair Minded Words”

President Barack Obama wants people who have a disagreement to stop demonizing one another. It sounds so good to say we should stop demonizing others. Other than the large word it sounds exactly like something a Mom or Dad might tell two siblings who are fighting. One can hardly find a way to disagree with the statement, until you connect it to an act and a way of thinking.

• Should we stop demonizing people who are racist and claim that being a racist is their right?
• Should we stop demonizing people who are abusing children and then say the abuse is okay.
• Should we stop demonizing the serial killer who goes out to murder innocent people?
• Does a rapist have a right to rape? Is it demonizing him to call his action a crime and morally wrong?
• Should we stop demonizing the actions of Hitler?

President Barack Obama strode head-on Sunday into the stormy abortion debate and told graduates at America’s leading Roman Catholic university that both sides must stop demonizing one another. President Obama stated this as our common ground. “We can still agree that this is a heart-wrenching decision for any woman to make, with both moral and spiritual dimensions.” 1

The problem is those moral and spiritual dimensions. Abortion is the taking of a life, murder, it is morally wrong. It is morally wrong for the woman to take the life of her unborn baby in the same way it is for a baby once born. It is wrong for the doctor to participate in her crime. It is wrong for the nation to make laws that justify this act.

President Obama called us to use, ”fair minded words. “ That sounds good but let’s put it in context. What would a fair minded discussion have sounded like in Germany while Hitler was slaughtering the Jews? During that era there were people who had those fair minded conversations. Many believers were silent in regards to the slaughter of the Jews. It didn’t affect them. It was men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who after having escaped Germany, went back to stand as a voice against the crimes of Hitler that made a difference. He died at the age of 39 because he discussed the issue in fair minded words.

What would a fair minded discussion sound like between an unborn baby and its mother who is considering an abortion? The baby might say, “Mama I love you I want to live.” The Mom would respond “But I am in college and I don’t have time to be a mother now.”

Our President went on to say that we can work together, to stop unintended pregnancy, encourage adoption, and support moms who carry their babies to term. I’m sorry, but that doesn’t solve the moral dilemma. The baby is still dead. How do we come to grips with the fact that the #1 killer of unborn babies is their mother aided by a professional doctor. I do have a proposition for all of America. Let’s stop abortion as an act of convenience and then work on unintended pregnancy, encourage adoption, and help parents learn to be responsible and raise their children. If our president, the congress, and Senate will vote to do this, then’ I’ll be a part of the rest of the solution. Until we stop abortion is a problem with moral and spiritual, and eternal implications that will destroy our nation.

Here’s an excerpt from Obama’s speech at Notre Dame.

We must decide how to save God’s creation from a changing climate that threatens to destroy it. We must seek peace at a time when there are those who will stop at nothing to do us harm, and when weapons in the hands of a few can destroy the many. And we must find a way to reconcile our ever-shrinking world with its ever-growing diversity — diversity of thought, of culture, and of belief.

In short, we must find a way to live together as one human family.

Wise words, although a bit too religious. Of course, I don’t believe in God, but I suppose this was appropriate for one of the most religious (and apparently homophobic) major universities in the US. He was already made to feel unwelcome by many for his presence, so it was probably wise for him to make religion his main theme.

When I watched the video of this part of his speech, I thought I heard upset protests and yelling right after the part about climate change.

There’s nothing quite as odd as magic hour lighting peaking through stormclouds.

Și iaca reușii și eu să dau o fugă până în Franța la Marsilia cu Nicu, ca s-o vizităm pe Sophie la noul ei loc de muncă de la Hopital Nord din Marsilia.

Și pentru că tot am făcut efortul să ajungem până acolo ne-am zis că ar fi frumos să mai vizităm și alte locuri înafară de Marsilia, care oricum e extraordinară și are foarte multe de oferit pentru turiștii care o vizitează! Așadar …

Deși totul a fost făcut foarte pe fugă am reușit totuși să vizităm extrem de multe obiective din sudul Franței iar dacă momentan putem spune că doar concurăm cu șanse bunicele, ei bine eu zic că data viitoare suntem ca și învingători la nou-apăruta probă Olimpică care se intitulează: “Proba de vizitare obiective turistice – VITEZĂ!” (remarca asta malițioasă a fost cu dedicație pentru Nicu – care din motive obiective a trebuit să accelereze totul pentru a putea să vizităm cât mai mult).

Așadar doamnelor și domnilor așezați-vă cât mai confortabil în fotoliile și scaunele dumneavoastră și fixați-vă foarte bine centura de siguranță pentru că urmează, inevitabil, descrierea celei mai palpitante probe de vizitare a sudului Franței!

Ziua întâi (Sâmbătă 22 August 2009)

Plecarea din Timișoara nu pune probleme prea mari echipei conduse la volan de veteranul Nicu, greu încercat în urmă cu 8 luni, de Revelion, într-o cursă similară până în Germania (Limburg) și înapoi unde a străbătut dintr-un foc, fără să clipească măcar o dată la volan, 1600 de km (și asta doar la dus – tot atât și la întoarcere). Da, ați auzit bine, o mie șase sute de kilometrii!!!

Deși echipajul nostru scoate un timp foarte bun până în Italia, probleme încep să apară în dreptul localității Udine unde un nesimțit de ambuteiaj refuză să-i lase pe cei doi să-și continue frumoasa cursă. Se pierd astfel timpi frumoși până când cei doi se hotărăsc să-și ia destinul în propriile mâini și să iasă de pe Autostradă continuându-și drumul pe șoselele paralele cu ea până foarte aproape de Veneția. În aceste momente echipa noastră face un tur de forță cu greu încercatul navigator Daniel, supranumit și Minitechnicus care nu pierde ocazia de a arăta tot ce știe el mai bine în materie de “navigare terestră cu degetul pe hartă” și pilotul Nicu care conduce foarte flexat și relaxat de peisajele înconjurătoare, lăsându-se întru-totul pe mâna mea. Se pierd astfel undeva cam pe la 3 ore pe acest ocol paralel cu Autostrada după care se revine în forță în spiritul mașinilor de cursă lungă.

Cu toate astea oboseala își spune cuvântul și imediat după ce este ocolită Brescia se ia hotărârea de a se trage pe dreapta pentru o porție sănătoasă de somn până dimineața pe scaunele rabatate ale BMW-ului (seria unu). În acest moment se face fatidica greșeală de a se folosi sacii de dormit pentru acoperire și din cauza asta ultimele 2-3 ore de somn vor fi făcute cu geamul șoferului deschis și portiera navigatorului întredeschisă. Rezultatul: Somn în Leasing!

Ziua a doua (Duminică 23 August 2009)

Trezirea și restul drumului până la Marsilia nu mai pun nici o problemă. Echipajul nostru este de neoprit, exact ca o forță a naturii!

Se trec repede în revistă câțiva munți, o Mediterană și multe zone aride din sudul Franței:

Când ajungem la Marsilia vremea e frumoasă și toată lumea fericită, mai puțin Sofia când aude că nu vom sta așa de mult cum ne planificasem inițial. Sorry Sophie … c’est la vie!

După ce Sofia ne face cinste cu micul dejun undeva în zona Portului de l’Estaque ca să ne arate că nu ne poartă chiar atât de multă pică, începem cu o primă vizită la Bazilica Notre-Dame de la Gard:

Pentru ca mai apoi să încheiem ziua cu o porție zdravănă de bălăceală în Mediterana pe Plage du Prado din sudul Marsiliei (al naibii de sărată apa asta a Mediteranei, noroc că mi-am adus ochelarii de înot):

Ziua a treia (Luni 24 August 2009)

Timpul e prea scurt ca să putem povesti așa că se bifează rapid următoarele obiective de pe traseul nostru:

Scurtă incursiune prin centrul orașului Aix-en-Provence cu Nicu pe post de ghid (că el a mai fost prin zonă în urmă cu ceva timp):

Un tur rapid prin Salon-de-Provence și prin al său Palais d’Imperi ne pune la curent cu întreaga istorie a Franței iar Nicu exclamă la trecerea în revistă a fiecărei campanii de cucerire dusă de colonialiști: “ce și-au mai luat-o francezii și aici!”:

Pentru ca la final cireașa de pe tort să apară în orașul Arles cu ale sale arene și amfiteatre romane:

Seara se încheie cu o magnifică cină la una din terasele din centrul Arles-ului și apoi cu un somn frate cu coma în camera Sofiei din Marsilia.

Ziua a patra (Marți 25 August 2009)

De dimineață se pune cap compas pe Avignon însă după căteva deliberări echipa hotărăște că cel mai indicat ar fi să trecem mai întâi în revistă câteva obiective din Parcul Natural Luberon cum este și acest superb Castel din Lourmarin:

Apoi ne clătim rapid burțile și ochii cu o Pădure “artificială” de Cedru chiar lângă localitatea Bonnieux:

După care luăm pulsul ultimelor trenduri în materie de machiaj profesional cu fond de ten bazat pe ocru în timpul vizitei fulger de la fosta Carieră de Ocru din dreptul localității Roussillon:

Iar apoi cântăm într-un glas “Sur le pont d’Avignon” în timp ce vizităm ultimul punct de pe agenda de azi, Palatul Papal din Avignon:

Urmează o cină cu o discuție aprinsă inclusă în meniu după care totul se liniștește pe drumul spre Marsilia iar în dimineața următoare totul e pregătit pentru ultimele vizite.

Ziua a cincea (Miercuri 26 August 2009)

E ultima zi în Franța iar echipa ia dramatica decizie de a se împărți în două tabere: Nicu rămâne în oraș ca să-și termine o parte din treburile care vin incluse la pachet cu jobul său și să se mai plimbe puțin prin magazine iar eu și cu Sofia încălecăm pe-o navă și luăm direcția Arhipelagului Frioul unde ne așteaptă Château d’If și Port Frioul ca să fie vizitate:

Ne oprim prima dată pe insula cu fortăreța Château d’If și analizăm toate unghiurile posibile – cam nasoală treaba pentru toate vedetele care au fost încarcerate aici printre care Contele de Monte Cristo și Omul cu Masca de Fier:

Apoi ne dăm jos în Port Frioul:

Și avem rapid timp să tragem o bălăceală fulger într-una din plajele din apropiere:

Sus ancora apoi și cap compas Marsilia după care direcția Geneva unde ne așteaptă Roxana și vocea ei suavă antrenată din greu la Karaoke.

Ziua a șasea (Joi 27 August 2009)

Trezirea e horror pe la 7 dimineața după ce am culcat geana doar vre-o 3-4 ore și asta în Leasing pentru că Bițu lui Roxana (cățelușul ei) mă tot controla scâncind din juma’ în juma’ de oră din cauză că și eu și Nicu dormeam pe o saltea întinsă pe jos.

Ne mobilizăm cu greu dar suficient cât să ajungem la mașină și să ne plantăm pe posturile noastre. Contact și dăi pedală!

Jumate din Elveția o văd dormind, oricum Alpii deja deveniseră prea mici ca să-mi mai facă cu ochiul iar Nicu reușește să culce geana pe bucata Salzburg-Nickelsdorf (Austria) în timp ce eu mă delectam conducând o mașină care nu are decăt două pedale (ca bicicleta mea) și o cutie de viteze automată. Respect BMW!

Ziua a șaptea (Vineri 28 August 2009)

E noapte, e întuneric. Am intrat în țară pe la Nădlac în jurul orei 12 noaptea și începem căutările pe toate fronturile a unei Pensiuni ca să dormim până dimineață pentru că nici eu dar mai ales Nicu nu mai suportăm o clipă în mașină. Nu ni se arată din nici o poziție!

La Nădlac și în împrejurimi totul e ocupat pentru că sunt zilele localității iar în rest totul e luat mai ales de românii care se întorc în țară sau în străinătate, majoritatea cu numere de Italia.

Și uite așa o tot lungim până ajungem la Deva și deja e ora 5 dimineața.

Eliberăm mașina de bagaje și îi ardem instant un cap la pernă și eu și Nicu. Suntem rupți! Restul e istorie …

Aventura s-a încheiat … cel puțin pentru mine! Nicu mai are puțin de tras …
