10 Questions with the Brother and Sister Team from Bullrun’s 3rd Season

Excitement is building as the 3rd season of Speed TV’s hit reality show Bullrun is set to return February 18th. The automotive gauntlet is set to excite viewers once again as 12 teams race across America in hopes of claiming the $200 000 grand prize.

Over the past few weeks I have been conducting interviews with several of the competing teams from the 3rd season of Bullrun. This time around I had the pleasure of interviewing Team BMW, the only brother sister team on this year’s rally. Consisting of driver Jason Arias and co driver Kristina Arias, Team BMW entered Bullrun with their BMW 335i.

As one of the youngest teams to enter the rally, it is anyone’s guess how they will fare. We will all have to watch the show to see what happens. Read below to see their answers to the 10 questions.

1. How did you first hear about Bullrun?

-Kristina: I randomly saw it on tv one day and immediately was hooked!
-Jason: We watched season 2 every week! We weren’t lucky enough to know about the show during season 1. After the 2nd season ended we watched every episode of season 1 we could online.

2. What was it like when you received the final call indicating you would be on the Bullrun Reality show?

-Kristina: I was driving and pretty much had to pull the car over because I was so pumped. I swear I had a heart attack.
-Jason: When my sister called me, I didn’t know what the hell she was saying because she was talking so fast. All I heard was “freaking Bullrun!” (laughs)

3. Were you at all apprehensive about bringing such a new vehicle into an automotive challenge like this one?

-Jason: Helllll yeah! It’s our daily driver for god’s sake!! There were some advantages to having a newer car. It should definitely be more reliable than an older car would be. It also has its disadvantages if something were to happen its not necessarily as easy to fix when you have limited tools and technology available to you.

4. Team BMW is Bullrun’s first Brother and Sister Team. What made you two decide to do this together?

-Jason: Pretty much, we’re a badass team
-Kristina: And we knew we’d be amazing.
-Jason: I get sick of people very easy so I couldn’t imagine being in the car for that long with anybody but my sister.

5. Most siblings wouldn’t be able to handle the pressure of Bullrun together. I take it you and your sister are close?

-Jason: Bullrun is intense! I’m not gonna lie. I wanted to throw her out the window more than once!! (Laughs). But yeah we are very close.
-Kristina: Super close. I hate to admit it but I totally idolize him. Great, now his heads gonna get all big. We get along most of the time.

6. The last BMW team to appear on Bullrun was in Season 1. Many BMW enthusiasts wanted to see a better finish. Did you feel the pressure heading into the rally?

-Kristina: I felt the pressure to do well not just because of BMW enthusiasts but in general. I mean who wants to be the lame team.
-Jason: Of course we wanted to make BMW enthusiasts proud. But it’s hard to say what they will think of us and our performance because when you’re at home watching it’s easy to say “I could have done that better.” or “my BMW is more vicious.” All I know is we did our best and let it all hang out!
-Kristina: Its hard to compare us to the other teams from previous seasons because a lot has changed and we had the advantage of watching 2 seasons before. We kinda knew what to expect.

7. When you arrived at the start line for Bullrun Season 3, what went through your head as you saw who and what your competition would be?

-Jason: The first thought in my head was “Am I really on Bullrun!?” It was a lot to take in. We were so lucky!
-Kristina: I still can’t believe we were on Bullrun. We definitely were the least qualified to be there.
-Jason: There were a lot of crazy cars and for a second I thought we might have been in over our heads.

8. You are one of the youngest competitors to ever be on Bullrun; in any season. Heading into the competition, did you feel this could be an advantage or disadvantage?

-Kristina: We’re young and ready to do whatever it takes. Go big or go home! That mentality definitely is an advantage I think.
-Jason: If you think about it, we were at a big disadvantage because between the 2 of us we only have about 8 years of driving experience. The other teams were older and more experienced. And I’m not even talking about track or rally experience; I’m talking about driving period.

9. I have interviewed a few of the teams already that you competed against in Season 3. I keep hearing that this year is going to be colossal. Do you agree?

-Jason: Yeah, each season gets better. The challenges get harder and crazier.
-Kristina: It will rock your world!

10. If given the chance would you do it again?

-Kristina: Definitely. I had so much fun. Living out of a suitcase, going place to place, even if it’s a random town with a total of 3 people, it was totally exciting.
-Jason: Probably the most exciting thing I’ve done in my life. And I would love to do it again.

Are We Just Better Multi-Taskers?

It only makes sense, or at least the lawmakers and safety advocates thought so, that enacting laws to prohibit placing calls or texting with wireless devices would help drivers focus on the road ahead and therefore improve safety overall.

Banning Hand-Held Phones while Driving Doesn’t Reduce Accidents

It appears, however, that these drivers are either finding other ways to maintain their need for distraction or that using a cell phone and texting while behind the wheel isn’t as dangerous as previously pronounced, if a new study by the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) is to be believed. In fact, the study determined that laws currently in effect to ban the use of handheld cellular devices have zero effect on crash rates.

“The laws aren’t reducing crashes, even though we know that such laws have reduced hand-held phone use,” said Adrian Lund, president of HLDI.

Observing crash rate data over decades, prior to cellular phones and PDAs becoming popular until now, shows that the zero reduction stat should have been expected. Currently, most people, including teens and the elderly have at least one cellular phone in their possession, and those who would have used one while driving have been doing so for decades. Accident rates, however, have not increased at all since the advent of the mobile phone or PDA, and therefore it makes sense that removing them from use while driving would have no effect on the accident rate; obviously we have become extreme multitaskers, the drive-thru window having been a progressive step toward doing more than just driving while behind the wheel.

While it appears by this study that there’s no direct correlation to cell phone usage and crash rates, it still makes sense that less distraction while behind the wheel and greater focus on driving is the ideal.

Is Mercury Ready for Canadian Consumption Again?

Ford hasn’t marketed its Mercury division in Canada for more than a decade, having left our country in 1999.  Yes, while the Grand Marquis, a Mercury-branded version of its fleet-only blue oval Crown Victoria that ironically is still produced in Ford’s St. Thomas, Ontario plant, was available to consumers up until 2008, it was sold under the Ford banner north of the 49^th.

The problem was that other than the second to last model sold here, the Ford of Europe-designed Mercury Cougar with its unique angular design that still looks sharp today, the rest of Mercury’s lineup was little more than slightly revised versions of Ford models.  This issue persists today, although since greater visual separation between Ford and Mercury brands is now evident there’s a fairly good argument that cars like the Mercury Milan, a classier Ford Fusion, and the Mariner, an upscale Ford Escape, would do well in our market.  The only other vehicle offered, other than the aforementioned Grand Marquis, is the Explorer-based Mountaineer, and hybrid versions of its Mariner and Milan.

An upcoming C-segment model based on the upcoming European-designed 2012 Ford Focus, which also shares its architecture with Ford’s C-Max and Grand C-Max MPVs as well as Mazda’s 3 and 5, might be perfect to reintroduce Mercury to Canadians and help to grow the brand in Mexico where it maintains a one-model offering, the Mariner being the only vehicle for sale (check www.mercury.com.mx to see for yourself).

The news comes via Automobile Magazine, which placed an unspecified Mercury model on its list of 10 vehicles Ford plans to produce off of its C-segment platform.

“Certainly, one [variant of the global C-segment architecture] will be a Mercury… It’ll give us something to put into showrooms, and help energize the Mercury brand,” Lincoln-Mercury spokesman Mark Schirmer told the popular magazine.

It’s been more than a decade since Mercury sold a compact car, which is a major deficiency in any lineup attempting to be competitive in a market plagued by fuel economy issues and environmental concerns.  Previously Mercury offered a revised version of Mazda’s 323, dubbed Tracer (1988-1999), and before that a cloned Ford Escort, named Lynx (1981-1987).  Mercury’s first true compact was the Bobcat (1975-1980), based on Ford’s much-maligned Pinto.

Moving forward, the upcoming Mercury compact could be any one of a variety of possible body styles.  Ford showed a C-segment Lincoln dubbed Concept C at last year’s Detroit auto show, which was more of a tall two-box multi-purpose vehicle than a traditional hatchback or sedan, while the Focus will be offered in hatchback and sedan forms, at first, with other body configurations likely to follow.

10 Questions with Bullrun’s Father and Daughter Team

It is now less then a week away from The Bullrun Survival Guide Special on Speed TV February 12th. In less then two weeks time, on February 18th, Bullrun Season 3 will debut on Speed TV. If you are not already excited for the next season of Bullrun, you should be. It promises to be a fast-paced adrenaline fueled roller coaster ride pitting 12 teams of gear heads against each for the chance at $200 000.

Lately I have been given the opportunity to interview several of the Bullrun Season 3 Teams. This time, I had the chance to interview Team HemiCuda. A father and daughter team comprised of Mark Janos and Julia Janos, Team Hemicuda brought one of the most impressive vehicles to the Bullrun Reality Television show this season. Below are their answers to the 10 questions.

Q) How did you first hear about Bullrun?

A) Mark- I originally watched it since Season 1
Julia- My dad watched the show and got me into it the second season.

Q) What was the first thing you did once you knew you were selected for the show?

A) Julia- I remember we had gone camping that weekend at the VW Bus campout, since we had just got our bus finished. It was in the woods so we had no service so my family got in the bus and drove about 3 miles up to the top of the hill to listen to the message. I could not believe that we were selected and was so happy I could not quit smiling.

Q) So you are Team HemiCuda, but that doesn’t look like your typical Cuda. What exactly has been done to that car?

A) Mark- It has been completely modified for driving long distance, comfortably., New generation 6.1 hemi ,5 speed trans, hydraulic clutch , big brakes all the way around new style suspension, coil over shocks, 19 x 10 wheels all around , suede interior , iPod control radio, ice cold a/c , that’s just a few of the mods.
Julia- Basically everything. Everything on the car has been fixed or modified.

Q) With potentially the most modified vehicle in season 3 of Bullrun, did you think it would be an advantage or a disadvantage?

A) Julia- I felt that it would be an advantage. My dad had built the car and knew everything about it. So if we ran into a problem, he should know exactly what needed to be done.

Q) When you first arrived at the starting line and saw your competition, what went through your head?

A) Mark- I didn’t know what to think.
Julia- I thought to myself “We got this.” I looked at the other teams and their vehicles and didn’t feel threatened.

Q) As you may know, I interviewed Team Mach 1 early this month. They said the challenges this year are scary and over the top. Is this a true statement?

A) Mark- I would say that the challenges were very intense and exciting.
Julia- I would agree that the challenges this year are bigger and better then last season.

Q) Team HemiCuda is a father and daughter team. Will the two of you be able to survive weeks alone together during the stress that the Bullrun rally presents?

A) Mark- We work very well together.
Julia- Yes, we have our times when we do not see eye-to-eye and have arguments but who does not when under stress?

Q) The last Father and Daughter Team on Bullrun won the whole thing; can we expect a repeat performance?

A) Mark- You can plan to see a very explosive season
Julia- Well I cannot give anything away. So just have to watch!

Q) This is a question for Julia. The Hemicuda is obviously your dad’s car. What are you currently driving?

A) Julia – I have 2 cars that I drive. The first is a babycuda. It’s actually a VW new Beetle that is painted like the Hemicuda, except the maroon is green on his car. (My dad) originally had it the same scheme as my car then switched. I also have a 350z Roadster that I bought just recently cuz I found out my VW didn’t have enough power for me…especially after getting back from Bullrun

Q) If given the chance, would you do it again?

A) Mark- Yes for sure!
Julia- I had a blast! I would love to do it again I meet so many amazing people! I am waiting for the Bullrun reunion! (laughs)

A Quick Discussion with Bullrun Season 3’s Team Challenger

 The new season of Speed TV’s hit reality television show Bullrun is now less then weeks away. The brain child of Andrew Duncan and David Green, Bullrun features 12 teams of competitors driving across the USA racing through checkpoints and challenges. The goal? $200 000.

Those familiar with the show know how intense and entertaining it can be. This season promise to be even more so. Recently I had the chance to ask Jonathon Bowen, driver for Team Challenger, 10 questions. Along side his co-driver Julian Muniz, Jonathan is piloting a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T in the 3rd Season of Bullrun. With Hemi power on their side, Team Challenger is poised for the competition.

Below are his answers to the 10 questions.

 Q) You were a fan of Bullrun before making it onto the show. How did it feel when you ‘Got The Call’?

A) I was completely shocked. I was on the Bullrun site on a Saturday afternoon, and the casting director, got online and posted that he was now looking for season 3 contestants. He wanted info emailed to him, so I did within 10 minutes of the post. 5 minutes later, swear to God, the phone rang; it was a call from California. It was the casting director and he said my team was under consideration and he wanted to see a video of Jules and me and the car. He needed it by Sunday night for a meeting he was having. I was still working on the video at the time. I called Jules and told him the story and he too was shocked at the whole situation. What a great day that was.

 Q) Rumour has it you applied for the show originally with a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. How did you end up in a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T?

A) I thought that season 3 needed to have a nice C6 Corvette and thought that was the main reason I got the call. Turns out they liked our team but already had a Corvette “in play”, as they said. I assumed it was a hot chick team. When Shane called me back after the video conference and asked if I could come up with a different car that feeling of shock returned. I could not believe I made it this far into the process but now had to come up with a different car. I had a few quick discussions with some business partners and Jules and the final verdict was buy a new car. I could always sell it when we were done filming. It’s a Bullrun car for petes sake, someone would buy it. We spoke with the Bullrun producers and they agreed on this decision. So I went out Thursday afternoon. It was 3 days before we needed to be in California for filming, and I checked out a 2010 Yellow Camaro and a 2009 Challenger in the Dukes of Hazzard Orange. I love the new style of the Challenger and the orange just topped it off. Well the obvious choice was made and we were driving out to California the next afternoon.

 Q) With a basically brand new unmodified car, do you feel you had an advantage or a disadvantage?

A) You don’t need to have a modified car at all to do Bullrun. Maybe a fuel cell would be helpful but not needed. Originally I was thinking it was a disadvantage by not having the Corvette, for speed purposes, but as we were driving out to California, I was getting to know the Challenger and what she could do. It was so roomy and comfortable; it was still pretty fast for how big she was. And it has the VVT engine which drops off 4 of the 8 cylinders while at cruising speeds.

 Q) Were you able to sleep at all the night before the 3rd Season of Bullrun began filming?

A) Actually, I slept like a baby that night. It was the few nights prior that I had some trouble. You know, making sure I had the car in my possession, getting it ready for the trip and the show, getting to California in time; all this was weighing heavy. So when I finally got out there and in the hotel, Jules and I got a hold of some beer from our neighbours at that same hotel and we had some celebratory drinks, I was damn tired by that night.

 Q) On that first day when you meet all of the other teams and saw their vehicles, what was your first reaction?

A) It was awesome to see so many other teams from the Bullrun.com site. I was amazed at the variety of the Season 3 cars. Some good, some great, but I felt really good about our chances, some of the older cars, I figured, would have old car problems. Some of the top end super cars, if they broke down would have a serious issue with repairs and they didn’t look real comfortable either. I thought we had one of the best cars out of the 12 for really having a great shot at winning. You need a good mix of HP, handling, MPG and comfortableness to have a good go at it.

 Q) I’ve been interviewing several of the teams from the 3rd Season of Bullrun. They all keep mentioning how epic the challenges are going to be this season. Is this true?

A) Epic describes it for the most part. I would say the challenges were slightly intimidating and damn exciting to watch and also participate in. The Bullrun producers definitely took it up a notch or two this season. The show will be a “blast” to watch. I can’t wait to see the look on some of my friends faces when they see what the teams from this season had to go through.

 Q) I hear that maybe not all of the teams got along this year and there is a bit of drama throughout the season. What is your take?

A) All I can really say is that when you have alliances you are going to experience some drama, that’s just the nature of the beast.

 Q) After three weeks with no radio, no phone, no contact to the outside world and nothing but each other’s company, are and your co-driver Julian Muniz still talking?

A) Well, we have to (laughing) we work at the same company and sometimes out of the same work vehicle. I can’t get away from the guy (laughs more). Seriously, of course we still talk and are still good friends. I feel something like Bullrun could not and should not bust apart any good friendship. We both know that $%@& happens. That’s how we roll. (laughs)

 Q) Would you do it again if given the chance?

A) In a heartbeat! It was great hanging and competing with other car guys and gals. Other than some of the very long days, I have no complaints. I am very happy to be a part of such an awesome event. I would love another ride on that roller coaster of insanity.

As the world’s cheapest car is being prepared for release in the West, news comes that the $2,500 price tag of the Tata Nano will end up being significantly higher after the dust settles on the modifications required to roll it out in the United States. The reasons? Emissions and safety.

If you’ve ever been to India or China, it is evident that emissions are not a high priority; especially given that they have no emission restrictions under global environmental treaties. This has the tendency to keep the notion of emissions off the radar when releasing vehicles in their home countries. But when the Nano is being repurposed for a release in North America, it requires Tata to go back to the drawing board and re-engineer the two-cylinder, 623cc engine in order to meet pollution standards.

Beyond emissions, safety upgrades are needed to meet U.S. safety specs. This will include the installation of airbags, a strengthening of the roof as well as a lengthening of the front bumper in order to meet U.S. requirements to limit damage in an 8km/h crash.

Warren Harris, Tata Technologies President, would not say what the final price would be, only stating that the price would be more than the $2,500 charged in India. Leaving obtuse statements like this behind, one can look to the European market to get a better understanding of what the price range will be when the 12-inch Nano tires hit the tarmac in America – The European version is priced out at about $8,000. An anonymous Tata official has confirmed, off the record, that the U.S. price point should be comparable to the European one. The car with the lowest price in America (currently) is the Hyundai Accent. Priced at $9,970, it is looking more and more likely that the Nano is losing some of what seemed at first to be an overwhelming price advantage. It is conceivable that the U.S. modifications may increase the cost over the next three years and, given that the Nano’s current estimated price does not include shipping, the Accent and the Nano may be even closer in price range than current estimates suggest. But, three years is a long time in the automotive world and much can happen to alter the price point playing field for both manufacturers.

Although an exact release date is as yet unknown, the chairman of the group of Tata companies, Ratan Tata, has stated that the Nano should be ready for U.S. distribution by approximately 2013.

Mahindra Strives For Global Presence

Mahindra has been struggling to get its diesel pickup trucks and SUVs into North America having had a number of delays along the way, but the Indian company is now reporting they’ll be bringing their Scorpio SUV in before the end of the year.

Mahindra has a limited presence in South American and Continental Europe, with intent to expand into both the U.K. and North America. The Scorpio will be distributed through a network of 300 dealers in the latter.

Mahindra boss Pawan Goenka indicates they have plans that go far beyond the Indian market, stating, “We want to be a global player in utility vehicles.”

Although Mahindra has not given details about the inbound Scorpio, it can be assumed they won’t have time to do much retooling for the North American market and that it should be nearly identical to model tooling around other parts of the world. Given that, the Scorpio will most likely feature a 2.6-litre turbocharged diesel that puts out 115hp and 205 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed transmission comes as standard. No word yet on pricing, but it will likely be very competitive.

A Quick Question and Answer Period with Team Lexus from the 3rd Season of Speed TV’s Bullrun

Regular readers of the Autoshow news here on Autotrader.ca will have noticed a series of interviews with the Teams participating on Speed TV’s Reality Racing Show Bullrun. Ramping up for the big premiere on Speed TV February 18th, Season 3 promises to be full of all the action and drama the previous two seasons of Bullrun have offered us.

This time around I had the opportunity to speak with both Tracy Shayhorn, driver for Team Lexus and Emilie Coppola, Co Driver of Team Lexus. These two ladies piloted a 1992 Lexus SC300 across south-western America during the 3rd Season of Bullrun.

As the only all female team in this year’s Bullrun Reality Television show, Team Lexus would be carrying the banner for the women. Below are their answers to 10 questions about their time on the show. Judging by their answers, Tracy and Emilie look to be one of the most interesting and entertaining contestants to ever participate in Bullrun.

Q) (To Tracy) How did you first hear about Bullrun?

A) I am a car junkie. We all know about Bullrun! But the first time I heard of Bullrun, my boyfriend Dan made it to the final casting call out in LA. He was going to drive my 800 AWHP daily driven Evo 8 with one of our friends who told him about the opportunity. Unfortunately, filming fell during the same time as the SEMA Show in Vegas and we had a car in the Konig wheels booth that year. So he had to turn down the offer to be on the show because of that obligation.

Q) (To Tracy) The Lexus you brought to the show isn’t exactly your own. How good of a friend do you have that they would allow you to subject their vehicle to the carnage that always seems to happen on the Bullrun reality television show?

A) (Laughs) George is one of my bestest friends obviously! I had just sold my STI a few weeks before I found out about the casting, so I didn’t have a suitable car at the time and Emilie’s car was down at the time for a build. He offered it up like it was no big deal, really. When I first mentioned it to him, he thought it was going to be Dan and I on a team. He went on and on about how he trusted us and knows that if we break it we will fix it….blah blah blah. When I broke the news that it would be me and my friend Emilie, he hesitated for a moment, asked me if she knew how to drive, and then said of course. Might I mention again that George is one of my BESTEST friends? Shout out to my homie!

Ok, funny story time. George used to own a rival shop to ours here in Atlanta called Twisted Tuning. We first met at the drag strip as competitors 7-8 years ago. Over time we became friends mostly by the way of friendly #$@% taking at the races. Eventually that led to hanging out after those hard weekends at the races. He ended up closing his shop doors a few years ago after he realized his primary seafood importing business by far out weighed the little money brought in by the shop. Now he is one of our customers and trusts us to work on his cars…and obviously drive the crap out of one of them on a 3k mile rally full of explosions and broken glass.

Q) (To Tracy) Speaking of the Lexus, that 1992 SC300 isn’t exactly stock, is it?

A) I’ll take no for $1000 Alex! Until the news of the show came out, no one knew what George had under the hood. He likes to keep it under wraps. Let’s just say that it has a 2JZGTE swap (with the 6 speed manual transmission obviously), a large single turbo upgrade, an AEM EMS and all of the supporting goods that go along with the set up that makes about 600whp.

Q) (To Tracy) You manage a performance shop. Was it nice to get away from the shop for a few weeks?

It was nice for a few moments. I definitely got home sick pretty quickly. It was also very weird to be away from my boyfriend. We usually do all of our motorsport activities together, so this my first experience with all of that away from him.

The best thing about the trip was being able to be away from the shop, but dish with another female who goes through the same issues as me as a shop manager. When times got rough, we just bitched about the shop and they guys back home to get us through.

Q) (To Emilie) How do you and Tracy know each other?

That’s a funny story, actually. This all started because Tracy’s previous 2 teammates dropped out. So, she posted up on her facebook that she was looking for a girl who could handle a 600hp car, drive stick, and leave in 2 days for a 3 week trip. A mutual friend of ours, T-minus, called me all frantic, and told me I had to call this Tracy chick that needed a partner for Bullrun. So, I got in touch with her, not knowing who she was from a hole in the wall, and it turns out, we had met a few years back at a Dyno Day her shop was hosting in Atlanta. We had hung out a bit, chatted, and got along back then, so, we figured, what the hell! Let’s do this! I was on a plane less than 48 hours later, and the rest is Bullrun history.

Q) (To Emilie) You tried to get on Bullrun in previous seasons, including an attempt with Brooke from Team Lexus on Season 2 of Bullrun. What was it like finally making it?

It was a huge, and unexpected surprise to finally make it, especially since I was not expecting it.

Brooke and I had been friends for years, through a car club called 3SI. We were both car addicts (and obviously still are), and figured Bullrun would be the ultimate driving experience for the both of us. Unfortunately, things fell through the day my 3000GT VR-4 was supposed to be picked up for the first season that aired on Spike TV. We were so geared up and ready to rock, it was a pretty big disappointment for the both of us. Then Brooke got a call back for Season 2, which was very exciting, but I was slightly disappointed about not getting a call back as well.

This season rolled around, and I hadn’t submitted a new video and was not prepared at all. My car was in pieces, I hadn’t arranged to be away from the shop for a few weeks, so, I was just going to shoot for next season. Then I get a phone call about an opening on a girl’s team, and was on a plane less than 2 days later. Everything moved so quickly, it was just so surreal. I don’t think it really sunk in that I was actually DOING this, until the flag dropped, and we peeled out of the first location.

Q) (To Tracy) Speaking of Team Lexus from Season 2, inevitably, comparisons are going to be made throughout the season between your Team and thiers. What do you think separates your team from the other Team Lexus?

A) Well the obvious is that they had a stock IS250 and we have a modded out SC300. Sure they are both white females, but that’s about as far as you can take the comparisons. Last seasons Lexus girls made it pretty far. I wish I could tell you whether or not we had that in common (smiles). You’ll just have to watch and see.

Q) (To Emilie) Being a car-nut like the rest of us, was it tough being the navigator and not the driver?

Oh it was horribly frustrating!! I’m sure Tracy will tell you how annoying I must have been. I haven’t ridden as a passenger in a car for over 2 years now, so it was EXTREMELY hard for me to just sit back and let Tracy do her thing, and trust her skills. I’m used to being the one in control of the wheel, so, to sit back, and just concentrate on navigating was very hard for me.

Q) (To Tracy) In Season 2, Team Avalanche threw their 5500lbs truck around like it was a Go-Kart. Can anyone in Season 3 match his driving skill?

A) I would have to see (Season 3 and Season 2) up against each other to be sure. Maybe a ‘Bullrun Allstar Season’? :Hint Hint to the producers:

Q) (To Tracy) I hear there may be a bit of drama this season. Is it true?

A) Um yeah. I was there. I tend to be like a pitbull at a crowded dog park. I will get along with 49 out of 50 dogs there. It’s just that 1 little #(%@ dog that can turn the whole scene ugly.

Mini has been leaping forward with new designs recently, opening up new and interesting variations on the core Mini styling. Just over a month ago they revealed their door-less, roof-less, Mini Beachcomber concept car that has been turning some heads, and now they have pulled the covers off of the production version of a unique crossover offering fittingly named, the Countryman Crossover.

What strikes most first about the new Countryman is its size. Mini has always been the builder of tiny cars, but the Countryman is the first four-door in the Mini range. It rides higher off the ground and has a wider body than other Minis. It even has a wide opening rear lid to ease loading in the back – especially handy when you need to throw down the rear seats and load up your camping gear.

The interior of the Countryman is an exercise in simplicity, with a single speedo gauge facing the steering wheel and a slick, compass-like façade for the center console. The interior feels somewhat spartan, but the MINI wears it well. In what is a nice touch, the Countryman has a rail that travels, from front to back, down the center of the car. The items that fit in the rail have clip-releases that allow you to slide them along the rail to place them where needed. So, if your passengers have some drinks in the back, just slide the cupholders back there for them to use.

The Countryman arrives with the choice of three different gasoline models and 2 diesels, the latter likely not available in North American markets. At the low-end, the base Countryman will feature a 1.6L four that puts out 90hp, with the Mini Cooper S Countryman pumping out 184 turbocharged ponies at the other end of the spectrum. Most newsworthy of all, however, is the fact that the Countryman comes with an all-wheel drive option.

In spite of the newfangled looks, the Countryman is still quintessentially Mini. It stands apart from the other Minis, but there will be no mistaking it for any other car brand. In a world of sculpted car designs, it is somewhat refreshing that a car company consistently retains the same basic design style over time and they manage to do so without it looking or feeling stale.

Prise dans le tourbillon du boulot depuis son arrivée Léa n’avait pas pu voir sa tante mais elle lui parlait régulièrement au téléphone, lui racontant le menu détail de son séjour en ne mettant en évidence que les strass et les paillettes:
- Mon fiancé est merveilleux tata, il est fou de moi. A travers Léa, elle revivait la naïveté et l’insouciance de ses 20 ans, mais se sentant coupable après avoir arraché Fanny de ses rêves. Elle laisserait Léa rêver, et se nourrir de ses illusions d’amour parfait. Léa avait invité sa tante manger du poisson ” Chez Marcelline” en ville , et exubérante de joie, elle raconta de visu son escapade amoureuse. – tata, c’est l’homme de ma vie, je le sens. Ade sourit devant la naïveté de la jeune femme. Ah longiligne Léa si tu savais que l’amour est tout sauf idyllique. Elle garda ses pensées noires pour elle, de peur de briser un rêve de plus. N’avais-je pas brisé celui de Fanny ? Elle l’écouta attentivement détailler chaque minute de son voyage. Léa était excitée et son visage s’illuminait à chaque fois qu’elle prononçait le mot fiancé. Et ou es ta bague de fiançailles ma petite ? Se retint-elle de demander à sa nièce qui lui semblait se fondre dans un abîme émotionnel. Mais elle l’enviait d’aimer avec tant d’enthousiasme et de naïveté. Ce genre de sensation l’avait désertée depuis longtemps .A la malicieuse sécheresse de son utérus s’ajoutait la sécheresse de son cœur. Triste destin d’une femme que tous enviaient et qui renvoyait au monde une image d’autosatisfaction parfaite. Ah si seulement ils savaient le tumulte intérieur dans lequel elle se dépêtrait. C’était uniquement après l’absorption de ces micropilules dans le tube vert qu’elle avait cédé à Fanny qu’elle retrouvait la paix. Alors qu’elle écoutait Léa, il y avait quelque chose de familier et d’insaisissable dans la description du ” fiancé” qui lui rappelait l’amant de Fanny. Elle cru vaguement discerner dans les détails que lui servait Léa des traits communs à l’homme décrit par son amie. Etrangement, aucune des deux ne lui avait donné de no. Et malgré son habituelle curiosité, elle n’avait pas jugé utile de demander le nom de ces hommes. Néanmoins, dans le cas de Fanny, elle soupçonnait Thierry Ndong Nze d’être l’objet de ses tourments. Mais comment une jeune femme comme Léa aurait elle pu rencontrer Thierry, plus âgé et rarement au Gabon . Elle écarta ses doutes et se concentra sur la énième version du week-end à PN rabâché par Léa lui . Alors qu’elles en étaient au dessert- une délicieuse coupe de fruits exotiques coupés en dés- Ade bravant son inquiétude posa la question à Léa: – Mais ma nièce tu parles, tu parles mais ton fiancé n’a pas de nom? C’est qui ce prince charmant qui fait tourner la tête de ma fille? Léa hésitante, regarda sa tante avec un air mutin et murmura en gloussant: -tata, tu vas le rencontrer, il sera bientôt à Libreville. Je suis sûre que tu l’aimeras tata, il est parfait : beau, intelligent et gentil. Le gendre idéal. Soulagée et déçue en même temps elle expira discrètement. Sa nièce avait attisé sa curiosité. Ade savait d’expérience que la perfection était tout sauf masculine. Mais en dépit du tableau idyllique peint par Léa , quelque chose sonnait faux et elle sentit une bouffée d’angoisse monter en elle . ..Mais par précaution, elle simula l’excitation et décida patiemment d’attendre. Ces jours ci, elle avait soigneusement évité Fanny, ne sachant comment se comporter avec elle. Je t’ai volé tes rêves Fanny. Elle regrettait tellement de l’avoir détourné de son histoire d’amour, même si elle paniquait à l’idée que l’homme qui hantait les cauchemars de son amie et le prince charmant de sa nièce soient une seule et même personne. Depuis son retour à son bureau, elle réfléchissait â un stratagème, afin d’en avoir le cœur net.
Que dois-je faire? S’interrogea Thierry alors qu’il visitait une plateforme pétrolière d’Exxon au large de Malabo. Aveuglé par son entêtement et sa fierté de Fang , il s’était privé de la présence rassurante et aimante de Fanny mais maintenant plus que jamais , il était déterminé à la reconquérir. Mais il savait que la fierté des peuls n’avait d’égal que celle stupide et mal placée des pahouins. Et ni les cadeaux, ni les sourires ne la feraient pas fléchir. Non pas après ces semaines de silence. Lui pardonnerait-elle ? Malabo était sa dernière escale avant Libreville. Les explications techniques dans un français à fort accent espagnol du responsable Equato Guinéen lui rendirent le sourire. Plus que quelques jours.
Ma Fanny tu mas déchiré le cœur avec tes aveux. Jai eu mal. Si mal que j’ai essayé de te fuir, mais au cours de cette longue absence une seule évidence à mes yeux: je ne peux survivre sans toi. Je t’aime. Thierry.
Il relut discrètement le sms puis hésitant, il se ravisa et le sauvegarda. Ses pensées se bousculaient dans sa tête. –Alors Mr Ndong Nzé , nos prévisions d’exploitations de brut sont elles intéressantes pour Golf Oil? Il hocha la tête, n’ayant pas vraiment écouté les chiffres débités par le Directeur Commerciale de la PetroGui , Société Nationale en charge de hydrocarbures en Guinée Equatoriale. Heureusement qu’un rapport lui serait remis à la fin de la visite. Que faire ? Comment l’aborder ? Renouer le dialogue entre eux était sa préoccupation du moment. Plus que les gisements pétroliers d’Afrique Centrale et pourtant.
J’appelle? J’envoie un sms? J’attends d’arriver à Libreville ? Viendrait-elle si Je lui fixe un rendez vous ? Et si elle ne me répond pas ? Je comprendrais si elle me détestait. Elle avait certainement du refermer la parenthèse sur leur histoire. Si courte. Si intense. Si vivante. Pourrait- il vivre l’esprit en paix ? Et si elle refusait de me revoir?J’ai merdé. Il réfléchissait à comment se sortir du bourbier dans lequel il s’était enfoncé. En ignorant ses appels heure après heure, jour après jour, il avait creusé un fossé entre eux qui lui semblait maintenant infranchissable. Comment sortir de cette impasse ? Libreville était sa prochaine destination et il devait trouver un moyen d’ouvrir le dialogue avec Fanny. Vaguement attentif aux explications scientifiques du géologue consultant du bureau local de Golf Oil, il s’égarait dans les dédales de sa pensée. Il sursauta, ses divagations interrompues par une vibration émanant de sa veste. –Excusez-moi, j’ai un appel dit il à l’intention de ses collaborateurs, se saisissant de son téléphone dans la poche intérieur de son blazer. Merde! Encore un appel de Léa. C’était son quatrième appel depuis le matin. Même à distance, elle savait rester encombrante. Il soupira, et se résigna à répondre. -Oui? Léa? je suis en visite sur une plateforme, il y a une urgence? Nullement découragée par la voix énervée de Thierry, elle continua, de sa voix la plus mielleuse : -Chéri, tu me manques. Tu viens quand à Libreville? Si tu ne viens pas bientôt, je viens te rejoindre à Malabo. Quelle sangsue cette fille! – Léa je te rappelle ce soir, on en parlera, lui asséna-t-il, haussant légèrement le ton. Cependant, Thierry avait une certitude :il n’avait aucune intention de la rappeler.
-Fanny, j’ai oublié de te dire, que j’ai eu le Ministre Abessolo et il m’a assuré du soutien de Golf Oil pour l’exposition ! John la regardait amoureusement en lui parlant. Ils étaient attablés face à face, dinant comme un jeune couple chez Papa Union. –Golf Oil ? Articula Fanny à voix haute, hachant ses mots. Le groupe assis à la table voisine se retourna vers eux. J’ai du parler trop fort. Surpris par la réaction un peu agressive de sa femme, il lui lança un regard interrogateur. Déstabilisé en entendant son mari prononcer le nom de la société de son ex-amant, elle se ressaisit, et arbora un sourire charmeur :-Merci chéri, je suis tellement émue par la bonne nouvelle. Elle lui effleura la main avec douceur, les yeux emplis de mélancolie. Thierry, ton ombre plane encore dans ma vie. John se mit à parler, parler pendant qu’intérieurement elle se consumait de douleur. La seule mention de Golf Oil avait ravivé le souvenir de son amant perdu. Et de cette douleur ineffable qui l’habitait. Cette douleur qu’elle avait racontée sans pudeur à Adé. Son histoire. –Fanny tu rêves? interrogea John qui monologuait depuis quelques minutes. –Oh non chéri, je viens d’avoir une idée pour l’expo en voyant les masques encadrés au mur. En regardant son mari si heureux de pouvoir à nouveau l’exhiber en public, elle se souvint alors qu’elle avait omit de raconter sa trahison à lui. Un sentiment de honte la submergea, quand elle prit conscience que l’absence de Thierry l’affligeait bien plus que la trahison de John.
Cela faisait 2 heures qu’il avait atterri à Libreville. Et Allongé sur son canapé, les yeux rivés vers le plafond, Thierry pensait à elle.
Fatigué de se torturer, il détourna son regard et se mit à fixer sa montre, puis son téléphone. Il changea de position. Il se mit à triturer nerveusement son stylo, incapable de contenir la fièvre qui l’animait. Il avait eu beaucoup de difficultés à faire partir Léa qui s’était mise en tête de passer la nuit avec lui. –Léa j’ai une terrible migraine, on se voit tranquillement demain. Déçue, voyant s’envoler ses fantasmes d’une nuit torride, elle avait du battre en retraite.-D’accord chérie à demain. Marmonna Léa d’une voix sourde. Les retrouvailles de rêves avec son prince charmant n’auraient pas lieu ce soir. Soulagé par le départ de la jeune femme, il se laissa enfin aller. Elle ne l’avait pas quitté depuis l’aéroport, et dès leur arrivée à son appartement, elle avait pris l’initiative de défaire sa valise et de ranger ses habits pendant qu’il mettait de l’ordre dans son attaché case. Quel choc pour lui, d’avoir trouvé la jeune femme en pénétrant dans le salon VIP de l’aéroport Léon M’ba. Il l’aperçut debout devant la vitrine du magasin duty- free. Elle sourit à la vue de son prince charmant, cintrée dans une robe courte en stretch rouge vif et lui adressa un signe main agité. Merde ! Qui a bien pu lui donner l’heure de mon arrivé ? Il eut envie de fuir, loin d’elle. L’excitation et le bonheur ressenti à l’idée de respirer le même air que Fanny, de regarder l’Océan du même angle que sa bien aimée s’étaient évanouis. Sans qu’il ait eu le temps de réagir, en quelques secondes, elle l’avait enlacé avec fougue en plaquant impudiquement sa bouche contre la sienne. – Mais Léa un peu de tenue ! Siffla-t-il tentant de se libérer de discrètement de son étreinte. Telle une Lionne s’accrochant à sa proie, elle avait resserré son étreinte insensible à la gêne qu’un tel débordement en public semblait causer à Thierry. Il finit par se libérer des griffes de Léa obligé de récupérer son passeport que l’hôtesse de Gabon Contact lui tendait l’air moqueur. – Bonjour beau frère, résonna une voix familière dans son dos alors qu’il descendait les escaliers débouchant vers la sortie du salon. – Bonjour Landry. Heu! Comment vas-tu ? Bafouilla-t-il embarrassé, mais forcé de se retourner en reconnaissant le timbre de voix du frère de son épouse. Léa restait accrochée à son bras en propriétaire, il la repoussa gentiment et s’empressa d’introduire la jeune fille « Oh Landry, Je te présente Léa ,une amie ». – Bonjour Mademoiselle, persifla Landry également gêné.
– Léa , je te présente Landry mon beau frère et ami. C’est le jeune frère de ma femme, bredouilla t il honteux d’avoir été pris la main dans le sac .Léa, mal à l’aise devant la complicité évidente des 2 hommes les abandonna à leurs retrouvailles t dans les escaliers. Elle ruminait intérieurement, éprouvant un sentiment d’exclusion aigue. Blessée par le face à face humiliant avec le beau frère de son homme, elle s’éloigna vers le parking rattrapée par la vérité. Thierry est marié. Repensant à ces évènements, Thierry sourit, heureux d’avoir pu infliger un soufflet à Léa. Il supportait de moins en moins sa présence étouffante et son attitude envahissante. Dès qu’il tournait la tête, elle apparaissait, toujours présente, mais insupportable. Malgré toutes ces femmes qui se bousculaient dans sa vie, il se sentait si seul sans celle qu’il avait perdue. Fanny, je sais que tu ne m’appelleras plus. Toutes les cartes étaient entre ses mains et il devait agir avant de perdre pied. Bravant la peur d’être rejeté, il prit son téléphone, prêt à rédiger un message à Fanny. Le lien invisible qui existait entre eux était inaltérable .Pour quelques instants avec elle, il était prêt à surmonter tous ses démons d’hier et d’aujourd’hui. Alors qu’il s’égarait, incapable d’apprivoiser ses errements mentaux, son blackberry vibra entre mains. Encore Léa qui lui avait déjà envoyé plusieurs messages, s’inquiétant de sa migraine. Quel pot de colle! L’appel insistant de la jeune femme venait de briser sa volonté. Il abandonna le téléphone et sa vibration intrusive sur le canapé et alla se jeter dans les bras de Morphée. Demain matin, Fanny je t’enverrais un message. Tu me manques.
-Allo tata mon fiancé est arrivé, je te le présente demain. C’était une Léa enthousiaste qui s’adressait à sa tante au téléphone.
–D’accord ma chérie, j’attendrai ton coup fil, répondit Adé , simultanément inquiète et rassurée. Pour se calmer, elle prit ¼ de somnifère et attendit la détente qui l’emporterait dans un sommeil sans rêve. Léa raccrocha angoissée par le silence de Thierry, mails demain est autre jour. Elle éclata de rire, seule dans sa chambre, contente d’elle-même, car elle venait d’échafauder un plan qui lui parut génial. Thierry demain tu vas rencontrer ma tante.

  Eparpillés par terre, sur la peau de zèbre de son petit coin de salon, elle contemplait les photos de ses albums. A la recherche d’elle- même. Elle ne cessait de tourner et retourner les pages de l’album de son mariage. Une photo ou elle et John  exhalaient le bonheur figea son regard. Mais, c’est avec scepticisme, qu’elle observa l’air amoureux et heureux de l’homme et la femme souriants sur la photo. Elle avait l’air insouciant et insolant de ses 20  ans. John affichait l’air aventurier et suffisant des hommes africains de sa classe et de son éducation, la trentaine conquérante .Elle s’attarda sur ces images d’un bonheur longtemps envolé, analysant les expressions de leurs visages, leurs attitudes l’un envers l’autre, elle plongea son regard dans ce passé qui lui manquait essayant d’y puiser une inspiration pour le présent. Un antidote à la morosité de son maintenant. Et surtout un vaccin à vie contre le virus Thierry. La maladie qu’il lui avait inoculée lui détruisait les cellules de la raison. Quelles  tenues magnifiques elle avait  porté ce jour là. ” le plus beau jour de ma vie”. Tiens mais ou est donc cette robe? Elle portait un long fourreau en tissu  Couleur ivoire tissé et teint de Claire Kane et une cape courte à capuche  faisait office de voile. Des arabesques couleur pastels à peines visibles ornait le tissu écru. Et son sourire brillant et éclatant témoignait de son bonheur. Un flot d’émotion la submergea, la menant au bord d’une noyade sentimentale. Et John tout fier de sa femme , distingué dans son costume la serrait comme un conquistador affirmant son territoire. Elle ne put s’empêcher de sortir de son sac la photo de Thierry qu’elle contemplait secrètement  jour et nuit sur Internet et qu’elle avait finalement réussi à imprimer. Pour l’avoir avec elle, en souvenirs de leurs retrouvailles ratées.

When will I see you again? When will my heart beat again?  Quand te reverrais-je ? Quand mon cœur se remettra-t-il à battre ? Chantait Babyface la narguant. Thierry je me meurs à petit feu. Presque un mois sans nouvelles de lui.                  

Ses réunions terminées, il flânait dans  les magasins  Duty free de l’aéroport Quatro de Fevereiro de Luanda , à la recherche d’un cadeau pour Fanny. Il espérait au fond de lui qu’elle lui accorderait le pardon qu’il lui avait trop tardivement concédé. Son amour pour elle l’avait  rattrapé. Et il savait qu’Il ne pouvait plus repousser à plus tard son retour au Pays. Dans moins d’une semaine  sa cavale prendrait  fin. Désormais, il était hanté par l’angoisse et la peur d’être rejeté par elle. Pendant ce mois écoulé, il avait compris qu’il n’était  pas près à la perdre. J’ai besoin de toi dans ma vie. Dans sa mémoire, s’entremêlaient  et se superposaient des images de Fanny adolescente et de Fanny adulte qui représentaient sa vision de la félicité. Depuis leur séparation à Pointe-Noire, Léa le harcelait de coups de fils et de messages d’amour passionnés auxquels il restait muet. Avec elle, il s’exprimer sur un ton amical et impersonnel qui ne devait pas  créer d’ambigüité dans leur relation pourtant sans  équivoque. Toute femme lucide y aurait clairement déchiffré un  ” je t’aime bien sans plus” mais pas Léa. Par son interprétation perverse des phrases de Thierry , elle  détournait le sens à son avantage, travestissant ses messages. De surcroit, elle trouvait toujours des excuses à sa froideur et au silence qu’il observait face aux mots d’amour enflammés dont elle l’inondait. « Thierry est occupé et préoccupé » par son travail serinait-elle à ses collègues qui ne lui avaient pourtant rien demandé.
Thierry était encore sur la route .En partance vers d’autres réunions, empreint de cette lassitude morale qui était en lui depuis ce jour.. Il avait tant de rapports à lire avant d’arriver à sa nouvelle destination, et ainsi préparer les éléments d’analyse essentielle à la prise de décision. Etait-ce viable pour Golf Oil d’entrer en partenariat avec Total, la SNPC et Sonangol ? Dans le salon cossu du Club des Pétroliers  de l’aéroport LUNDA, Il relut distraitement le rapport, mais malgré tous ses efforts, il éprouvait des difficultés à se concentrer sur les chiffres et le vocabulaire technique du document. Le Sourire de Fanny se profilait derrière les chiffres et les lettres.

 Etrangement, la présence d’une autre femme à ses côtés, le temps d’un week -end n’avait fait que raviver le souvenir de l’absente. La  peau d’une autre, le corps d’un autre, au lieu d’effacer son existence, avait rendu Fanny  encore plus présent. Car ce n’étaient ni le toucher de sa peau, ni la volupté de son corps. Il ne pouvait s’empêcher de comparer, le toucher de la peau, le rebondi des formes, les odeurs corporelles. Fanny soyeuse et veloutée  à chaque effleurage. Léa a la peau juste douce. Fanny aux  hanches et à la croupe charnue, rebondies et fermes. Léa avait des petites fesses rondes et des hanches étroites. Fanny  aux senteurs d’amour, de sexe et de sensualité. Léa à l’odeur de fleurs, si fraiche et trop jeune pour lui. Pas assez femme. Il avait troqué une femme qu’il aimait pour une jeune femme qui s’efforçait de lui plaire. Avec Léa ce n’était pas les mêmes  frissons, la même perdition, la même extase qu’avec Fanny. C’était juste bon. C’était un John apaisé, heureux gonflé de l’arrogance triomphante d’un homme repu qui avait quitté son domicile ce matin là. Enfin j’ai retrouvé ma femme. Cria-t-elle depuis la salle à manger. Décidément pensa John jubilant intérieurement, elle ne m’avait pas appelé chéri depuis longtemps.

Les enfants avaient dinés plus tôt .Ils se retrouvaient ainsi dans une ambiance intimiste et sensuelle, un tête à tête en amoureux .Son objectif était de retrouver le couple heureux qui figurait sur les photos qu’elle avait passé l’après midi à contempler nostalgique. Je dois faire un effort. Le silence définitif de Thierry l’incitait à s’agripper à son mariage. Malgré toutes ses tentatives, il lui était difficile d’effacer toutes ces émotions de sa mémoire. Quand Léa débarqua finalement a Pointe-Noire, le protocole chargé de l’accueil du personnel de Golf Oil se tenait à debout avec une pancarte affichant son prénom en caractère gras à la descente de l’avion. Dès son arrivée dans la chambre d’hôtel, elle reçut un appel de Thierry qui demanda d’une voix inquiète : -Tu es bien arrivée Léa ? Bien installée à l’hôtel ? Si elle avait eu une once de clairvoyance, elle aurait décelé une certaine anxiété dans son ton.
– Oui merci mon chéri, répondit-t-elle d’une voix enjouée. Son cœur était rempli d’allégresse. Il m’aime ! Il m’aime ! –Tu viens bientôt chéri, j’ai vraiment envie de te voir, hasarda –t- elle, essayant de le soustraire à son travail.
- Désolé Miss , mais je ne viendrais que vers 20h00, j’ai beaucoup de travail à finir, répliqua –t-il essayant de repousser au plus tard possible ses retrouvailles avec la jeune femme.
-Mais chéri , je suis venue pour passer du temps avec toi, essaies de rentrer un peu plus tôt,insista-t-elle d’une petite voix capricieuse.
–Ecoutes Miss Léa, je t’avais prévenu que je serais très occupé, mais tu es quand même venue alors sois patiente, donc à cette nuit Miss ! Il raccrocha sans lui laisser le temps de riposter. Après l’avoir fini expédiée, pris de remords, il lui envoya un petit texto :Bienvenue à Pointe-Noire Miss Gabon. Il avait transféré sa colère et sa frustration sur la pauvre petite Léa dont le seul pêché était d’être éperdument amoureuse de lui. Mais lui ne cessait d’aimer Fanny. Son Amour maudit.
Résignée par le silence de l’être aimé, Fanny avait suspendu toute tentative de communication. Il ne lui restait que la foi et l’attente. Interminable attente, les semaines se déroulant en éternité. Sa vérité à elle avait gâché sa vie, annihilant la deuxième chance que le destin lui avait offerte , créant une cassure entre elle et l’objet de son amour. C’était donc la fin ? A bout moralement, au bord de l’explosion, elle s’immergeait dans le néant de son quotidien, avec un intense besoin de confier sa peine afin d’émerger de ce cauchemar d’émotions troubles . Ah si seulement j’avais le don de communiquer avec les fleurs et les animaux ! Mais malheureusement ceux-ci ne s’exprimaient que dans les dessins animés de ses enfants… A l‘horizon , elle n’entrevoyait personne à qui se confesser. Si elle avait été catholique, elle se serait rendu au confessionnal pour avouer leurs pêchés dans l’anonymat. Elle se creusa les méninges à la recherche du nom d’une personne proche qui aurait une âme assez charitable pour l’écouter sans la juger. La conseiller avec objectivité sans la moraliser. Comme elle enviait ces familles ou les frères et sœurs se confiaient tous leurs secrets les plus obscurs avec objectivité. Mais Son frère et sa sœur à elle ,déjà assez aigrie qu’elle aie définitivement épousé le Gabon la vilipenderaient, sans indulgence. Elle les imaginait bien la sermonnant « voilà tu est amoral, tu es devenue une vraie Gabonaise. » Comme si l’adultère avait une nationalité ? L’adultère au même titre que l’amour avait un caractère universel. Aussi Universel que les épouses frustrées, les maris fourbes et les amants intolérants. Seule, Adé trouva grâce à ses yeux comme potentiel exutoire : assez juste pour ne pas la juger et suffisamment généreuse pour ne pas la condamner. Ade, femme au destin solitaire et à la vie trépidante. Fanny avait conscience des limites de sa voyante pseudo gardienne de ses secrets. Maman Diabaté, au-delà de ses bienheureuses prédictions n’avait pas la prétention d’analyser la situation et lui apporter les judicieux conseils dont elle avait cruellement besoin. Sa décision était prise, elle se confierait à son amie , espérant de la discrétion de sa part, ainsi que la protection de son secret. Réconfortée par sa résolution, elle éteignit son ordinateur avec un pincement au coeur, faisant disparaître ainsi un Thierry en costume qui lui lançait un regard ténébreux et lourd de reproches.
- Chéri je te sens ailleurs, se plaignit Léa alors qu’elle et Thierry dînaient face à la mer sur la Terrasse du Sea-Club.
– Trop de soucis au boulot Léa, trop de choses à gérer, mentit-il. Mais la vérité c’était qu’il regrettait d’avoir ignoré Fanny et il payait le prix fort, en se retrouvant coincé avec une femme qu’il n’aimait pas. Malgré le mensonge, la torture des dernières semaines, tout son être la réclamait. Mais il était de nouveau hanté par la crainte d’être rejeté. – Mais mon bébé, je suis là, avec toi , oublies le boulot et profitons des moments que l’on passe ensemble, grommela Léa d’une voix plaintive. Sans répondre, il l’observa silencieusement et regretta amèrement d’avoir accepté qu’elle le rejoigne. J’aurais du être plus ferme. Fragilisé par la distance entre sa bien aimée et lui, il se sentait pris au piège par cette jeune femme immature, collante, envahissante et excessivement curieuse. Parce qu’elle avait passé quelques nuits chez lui àLibreville, elle s’était arrogé des droits sur sa personne. Des droits que même Mme Ndong Nze ne revendiquaient pas. Sans savoir encore comment, Thierry était déterminé à se débarrasser de Léa avant qu’elle ne devienne un fardeau trop encombrant.
-Allô Ade je peux passer te voir ? demanda Fanny s’une voix qui sembla anxieuse à son interlocutrice téléphonique.- Je suis en rendez-vous mais on peut se voir dans une heure, proposa Ade qui n’osa cependant pas lui demander pourquoi. Car elle avait bien remarqué que quelque chose ne tournait pas rond dans la vie de son amie. Ses nombreux appels à Fanny étant restés sans réponses au cours des semaines passées, elle fut soulagée de l’entendre. Elles convinrent finalement de se retrouver au domicile d’Ade dans l’heure qui suivait. Disposant d’un peu de temps, Fanny roula jusqu’au Maisha. Elle se retrouva à déambuler comme une somnambule dans les couloirs débouchant sur la suite Makeda. Notre nid d’amour. Une façon de faire son deuil. De cuver trop plein de douleur. Les re-trouvailles de 2 âmes errantes qui s’étaient perdues de vue pendant presque 20 ans, avaient pris corps et vie dans cette chambre. Notre nid d’amour. Tout ceci lui semblait si proche et si lointain en même temps. Trop proche et trop lointain. C’était hier. Que sera demain ? Au fond d’elle elle gardait l’espoir secret que le destin les réunirait, le jour ou ils mériteraient d’être enfin ensemble.
Réveillé en sursaut au milieu de la nuit par un mauvais rêve, il fut surpris de trouver une femme à ses côtés :Fanny ? Fanny ? murmura –t-il angoissé. S’approchant pour l’embrasser, découragé, il reconnut Léa endormie à point fermé. C’est alors que le film des dernières 24 heures défila devant ses yeux. Ce n’était donc pas un mauvais rêve mais l’âpre réalité. C’est avec soulagement , qu’Il se souvint que « ce pot de colle de Léa » rentrait le lendemain .Il avait découvert une jeune femme possessive, capricieuse et déséquilibré qui lui avait fait subir un interrogatoire serré voulant connaître tout les aspects de sa vie privée. Dérouté par son attitude instable, il était resté vague sur de nombreux aspects de sa vie sauf sur un seul point :–Je suis marié Léa et ma femme vit à Paris. Il lui avait asséné cette information, souhaitant que cela refroidisse ses ardeurs envers lui. Paniqué à l’idée de se retrouver dans la même ville que Fanny, il reculait la date de son retour au Gabon. Avant d’arriver à Libreville, il avait planifié des réunions à Malabo, Luanda et Johannesburg. Pourtant, il ne se pardonnait pas d’avoir été implacablement froid envers celle qu’il aime de toute son âme, regrettant amèrement son comportement excessif. J’ai perdu mon enfant mais je n’ai pas le droit de perdre sa mère. Il se rendormit paisiblement bien décidé à récupérer Fanny, pour que survive la mémoire de leur enfant mort.
-Merci beaucoup tonton, à bientôt. John raccrocha tout sourire et satisfait de son entretien avec le ministre Abessolo .Ce dernier, ami intime de son père venait de lui confirmer la contribution financière ainsi que le partenariat de la société Golf Oil à l’organisation de l’exposition « Richesses Bantous ». Faire plaisir à sa femme était sa priorité actuelle. Et il savait que Fanny serait heureuse de pouvoir démarrer l’organisation de cet évènement au Gabon et au Congo.
Sanglotant dans les bras de son amie , Fanny n’arrivait pas à former une seule phrase cohérente. –Pleure Fanny, laisses toi aller. Les paroles de réconfort d’Ade agirent comme un baume bienfaisant sur son le moral. Une fois ses larmes séchées, elle raconta toute l’histoire à Ade en évitant bien sûr de dévoiler l’identité de l’homme. Elle omit aussi de donner des détails sur sa grossesse restant évasive « Je lui ai révélé un secret que j’avais gardé depuis presque 20 ans et depuis il refuse de me parler, c’est le blackout total ». Au rappel de l’absence de l’aimé, ses pleurs redoublèrent, intarissables. En se racontant, elle venait de raviver une blessure encore mordante que le temps n’avait pas anesthésié. Ahurie et incrédule, Ade n’en revenait pas. La prude et coincée Fanny avait donc une aventure extraconjugale ! Incroyable mais vrai ! Elle comprenait maintenant le comportement étrange et émotif de Fanny à chaque fois qu’elles s’étaient rencontrées. Dépassant l’effet de surprise lié à la révélation, elle la laissa pleurer tout son saoul. C’était presque surréaliste,elle Ade,n’arrivait pas à garder un seul homme, et Fanny arrivait à en avoir deux rien que pour elle. Quelle vie injuste ! Taraudait par ces pensées, elle s’evertua néanmoins à apporter paroles de soutien et de réconfort à son amie. Anyambyê. Oh Seigneur ! Réveilles moi ! Fanny ne peut pas tromper John. Elle se garda bien d’exprimer à voix haute son étonnement et se contenta d’être une épaule consolatrice.
–Ade vraiment je compte sur ta discrétion, tu sais les conséquences néfastes que cela pourrait créer dans mon mariage , si jamais John l’apprenait. Elle implora pratiquement son amie, regrettant quelque peu de s’être laissé aller à ce débordement de paroles. Mais comme elle se sentait mieux.
–Fanny, fais le deuil de cette histoire, reprends le cours de ta vie, bats toi et remontes la pente, Tu as une famille, ma sœur, un mari et des enfants, et c’est ce que tu as de plus précieux au monde. Quelle surprise, qu’une femme aussi libre qu’Adeline Martin lui prodigue des conseils aussi sages. Adeline, la terreur des foyers, lui recommandait de tourner la page et de rentrer dans les rangs. Et c’était avec une pointe d’envie et de nostalgie dans la voix qu’elle s’était adressée à elle. –Oui, c’est vrai Ade, tu as raison, j’ai de la chance d’avoir une si belle famille, je ne dois pas tout gâter, dit-elle réalisant que son amie lui enviait son statut d’épouse, ses enfants et essayait de la rappeler à l’ordre. Elle sécha ses larmes et décida de faire face à la « sombre réalité » son histoire avec Thierry avait été une échappatoire provisoire, et appartenait à un passé révolu mais pourtant si récent. La voix de la RAISON. Contre la voix de la PASSION. Combat séculaire et omniprésent qui hantait son monde. Et pourtant toutes ces sensations étaient encore là bien vivantes en elle, la torturant inlassablement. C’est du passé. Je dois avancer. Elle acquiesça aux dires de sa confidente, sans lui montrer sa déception. En venant chercher un réconfort, elle avait secrètement souhaité trouver une incitation à la folie. Comme elle aurait aimé qu’elle lui ait dit « Vas y , appelles le, vas au bout de l’aventure, contactes son bureau, essaies de savoir ou il est, ne laisse pas tomber, ce genre d’amour n’arrive qu’une fois dans la vie ». Au lieu de cela Ade avait emprunté la voie de la sagesse, de la raison, l’invitant à reprendre la tête haute, la voie de la NORMALITE. Plus facile à dire qu’à faire,se dit elle en son for intérieur. Je vais essayer.
–Tiens, Fanny, prends, ce sont des comprimés qui vont te détendre, prends en juste ¼ le soir, lui dit elle en lui tendant un tube de comprimés verts. Fanny prit sans discuter et remercia son ami, la gratifiant d’un sourire forcé. Elle s’éclipsa de l’appartement d’Ade, encore plus triste que lorsqu’elle y était entrée. Abattue et déçue. La confidence avait fait ré émerger sa douleur, lui rappelant qu’elle devait abandonner l’homme de sa vie dans son passé. Un arrière gout d’amertume.
Des larmes brûlantes lui dévoraient le visage alors qu’elle marchait d’un pas lent et lourd vers sa voiture. Peut être son amie avait-elle sous estimé la profondeur de ses plaies invisibles quoique poignantes et encore vivaces, les méprenant pour de légères éraflures émotionnelles. Elle ouvrit d’une main pesante la portière de sa voiture appréhendant son retour à la maison. Encore se parer du masque de la normalité. Supplice des sourires forcés, et démarche de zombie affairé. Affalée dans la voiture, elle laissa tomber sa tête sur le volant et laissa éclater son désespoir. Une insistante vibration sur ses cuisses, la tira brièvement de sa douce explosion de chagrin. Et sans regarder l’écran, elle jeta le cellulaire sur le siège passager. Accablée et anéantie par la voix trop raisonnable de sa conseillère, elle démarra le véhicule conduisant mécaniquement vers sa vie parfaite imparfaite. Mortifiée par la douleur qui n’avait laissé aucune place à la honte et â la culpabilité, Fanny espérait que ces souffrances expiatoires lui ouvrirait la porte à une résurrection de sa vie d’antan , de la période pré Thierry.
Ade se haïssait d’avoir fermé la porte aux illusions de Fanny mais ce qu’elle méprisait encore plus, c’était la pointe d’envie qu’elle avait découvert en elle. Oh mon Dieu libérez moi de ce sentiment! Mais il était trop tard pour effacer cette sensation malsaine qui se manifestait par une sourde satisfaction d’avoir détruit le rêve de l’autre. La solitude de sa réussite sociale, combinée à la solitude née du désir d’enfant jamais comblé, avait rejailli sournoisement. Fanny avait Tout et elle n’avait Rien. Mais elle lui en voulait encore plus de vivre cet amour passion. Alors qu’elle papillonnait, d’hommes en homme sans vraiment les aimer. Elle avait sciemment réduit à Néant les dernières illusions de Fanny en la repoussant sèchement vers la réalité, alors qu’elle subissait l’aigre réalité de sa vie. Son amie partie, elle scruta son corps aux contours impeccable qui avait peu inchangé malgré le poids du temps. Face aux miroirs de son salon, elle détailla son apparence :son impeccable tailleur en lin dont l’ocre rehaussait son teint de métisse, sa bouche petite et mignonne, son visage aux traits exotiques qui avait attiré plus d’un homme, même si aucun n’était resté pour meubler sa vie et aucun n’avait planté en elle la graine de la fécondité. Toute cette beauté, ce luxe discret qui l’entourait, ne compensait en rien l’aridité de son corps qui pesait sur son existence. Elle jalousait Fanny qui avait des enfants, un mari et la chance inouïe de vivre un amour insolent. Alors qu’elle devait se satisfaire des artifices qui ornaient son corps incapable d’enfanter : bijoux, montre en or, cheveux lisses. Secrètement, elle prit
conscience qu’elle en voulait à Fanny d’avoir partagé avec elle sa folle aventure. Elle fut saisie par l’envie de la rappeler pour lui dire de ne pas prêter attention à sa voix pseudo raisonnable. Mais elle resta immobile, essayant désespérément de reconnaître la femme dont l’image se reflétait face à elle. Pardon Fanny. Elle s’éloigna du miroir , fuyante ,apeurée par la lueur qu’elle découvrit dans son regard. Je suis une femme amère et injuste .Se réfugiant dans le confort de son canapé en cuir crème, à son tour, elle explosa de chagrin.
