Md Hafieenaz Md Ali of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline is happy for teammate, Hafizh Syahrin Abdull

Md Hafieenaz Md Ali of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline is happy for teammate, Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah who snatched the Novice title early when he secured the winning podium by Round 8 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Kangar, Perlis. While most would feel inferior, Hafieenaz takes his young partner’s outstanding feat as a positive spin-off to try harder.

Commenting on his young partner’s achievements, Hafieenaz said he is proud of Hafizh for what he has achieved at such young age. “Hafizh has done a good job of securing the Novice title. He has worked hard for it by training day in day out and he deserves it,” said the 23 years old.

Now Hafieenaz says it is his turn to prove to the team and supporters he has what it takes to finish second in the Novice overall standings. ““Now that the title is his (Hafizh), it’s my turn to prove my worth now. It will not be easy because Ahmad Abd Kadir (Faito Boon Kui Racing) wants the spot as well,” he said.

Talk about his own progress, Hafieenaz admits since his last podium in Round 6, his performance has been dropping gradually. According to the Novice rider since the race in Pekan, Pahang, the engine was not up to par resulting in him being less competitive.

“My last podium was in Batu Kawan, Penang. In Pekan, Pahang I crashed because the surface was slippery due to the wet weather and I faced set up complications. The issue took a toll on my performance in Kangar, Perlis as well but I managed to finish in eighth place,” said Hafieenaz.

“The team mechanics have replaced the faulty parts and are busy running R&D with it. So far everything looks good but not 100% perfect. We plan to run a few more test before Round 9 to make sure everything is in fine form. Hopefully everything will fall into place accordingly because I am really looking forward to taking home the chequered flag from Round 9 and the final round in Penang next month,” he concluded.

While Hafizh soars high in the Novice standings with a whopping 195 points, Ahmad stands in second spot with 111 points. 1 point away in third place is Hafieenaz followed by Md Farid Ahmad of Modenas Yuzy Pachi Racing and Zaidy Md Zaifaizal of Motul Yamaha YY Pang with 70 and 65 points respectively.

(Versi Bahasa Malaysia)

Finally, the day that I have been waiting for so long has come. The Porsche Club Track Day! This is the first time that I can really enjoy my Porsche on track. The event starts at 7:00am for Novice group so I have to really set my alarm at 5:00am in order to arrive the event on time. The timetable of the event is divided into two parts. Autocross and Freelapping. The autocross is not too fun but the freelapping is for everyone to get excited about.

During the high speed laps on track, the 2009 Porsche Boxster performs really well especially in corners. I do admit the 2009 Porsche 911s are fast but they do not have much advantages over me. Indeed, I did run some good race lines too.

Anyway, the 2009 Porsche Boxster really gives me confident of driving fast on track. The brakes are just too good and trustful to give you the optimal point of deceleration right before the corners. In additional, the mid-engine configuration is really the key to make this Porsche the best handling on track. Adding more fun on track is the PDK transmission as it really shift liked a F1!

Honestly, I have never such good handling experience with the other car such as the Audi TTS which I was using that in practice.

Porsche is Porsche. I love my car more and more.. She really could offer more on track!

Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM), event promoter for PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship annou

Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM), event promoter for PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship announced its provisional race calendar for 2010, featuring another 10 highly action-pack rounds beginning from March till December next year.

It’s going to be one race in each month for the 2010 season. The curtain raiser leg will kick off in Alor Setar, Kedah on March 19-20, followed by Kluang, Johor on April 17-18 and move up to Batu Kawan on May 8-9. Then Sepang Circuit (North) will play host on June 12-13, Kuala Terengganu on July 9-10 and next is Kota Bharu, Kelantan on August 7-8.

As usual the championship will take a break during the fasting month and also Hari Raya. The race will resume on September 25-26 at Malacca. The venue for Round 8 is yet to be confirmed but it will be held on 23-24 of October. Round 9 will take place at the Sepang Circuit (South) on 20-21 November while the season finale, in Penang on December 4-5.

Much alike this year, the opening leg and final round for next season will be held right in the heart of the city where the population is high.

According to Ron Hogg, Promotions Director for SAM, the event promoter are also eyeing for new venues to add into the race calendar. “Though at the moment we have 10 venues, we are still on the lookout for new sites to organize the Malaysian Cub Prix. It will spice things up as it offers a different set of challenge for the riders and their respective teams. Not just that, even the sponsors and fans hopes to see new locations as well.”

“For example, this year we introduced the Malacca International Motorsports Complex (MIMC), Pekan, Alor Setar and Penang tracks which made the event more interesting and exciting,” he said.

When asked if more rounds will be added to the Championship, Ron clarified, “We are at the maximum amount of rounds. To add more rounds we will need more venues, a high volume of riders, teams and sponsors. Therefore for now we will not be adding more rounds to the Championship but maybe in the future we might just,” concluded Ron.

(Versi Bahasa Malaysia)

SAM umum kalendar Cub Prix 2010

Things are hectic around out apartment as the quarter is wrapping up.
Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 and grease a casserole dish or pan. In a bowl, mix together salsa, cumin, diced tomatoes, baby tomatoes, tomato sauce. In another bowl mix corn and black beans. Slice tortillas into strips. Spoon some of the tomato mixture in the casserole and top with tortilla strips. Layer the corn/beans, cheese, tomato mixture, and tortillas. For your last layer end with the remaining tomato mixture and top with cheese. Bake for 30 minutes or until the dish is bubbly and cheese is brown. Meanwhile, heat the refried beans, spoon them onto plates.
Prior to Round 9 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will be held on December 5

Prior to Round 9 of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will be held on December 5 and 6, the Sepang International Circuit (South) will be open for testing on Thursday of the race week. It is scheduled to take place on December 3, 2009.

There will be two test sessions for the day. The first will session kick off at 10am till 1pm while the second will begin at 2pm till 5pm. The fee is fixed at RM100 per bike for one session and is open to all the Cub Prix teams and privateer riders.

Unlike other venues in the Cub Prix calendar where the layout is narrow, more focused on technical skills and designed to match the capacities of ‘kapcai’ machines, Sepang (South) is intended more for machines with greater abilities, power, durability and speed.

Therefore the set up required to master this circuit is completely different from the ones used by teams for other venues on the race calendar- hence this is why the promoter, Safe Aim Mutual Sdn Bhd (SAM) is organizing the test session.

Mr. Ron Hogg, Promotions Director for SAM encourages Cub Prix teams to take full advantage of the opportunity given. He says it is utmost essential to make sure each and every element of man and machine is reviewed and tested before the race because the Championship is now at its crucial and final phase.

“Even though, Sepang track is not new to all of us as we have been racing year in and year out but I hope the teams and riders will take the testing session to improve on their bike set-up. One of the challenges I foresee is the weather. In Round 5 that was held in the month of July this season, we were racing under the scorching sun but this time around, we might be racing under a cooler environment as it is rainy season now.”

“Therefore, I believe the test session will not only boost the chances of bagging good results but it will also help ensure the machine set-up is in top form. Furthermore, both the Expert and Wira epg titles are still wide open and I am sure the riders who are in the running for the title chase will want to collect as many points in Sepang,” added Ron.

Peluang pasukan uji trek Sepang

Tiket berharga RM20 boleh didapati di ejen-ejen berhampiran seperti berikut : MAJU MOTOR, Shah Alam (03-55108036), AH HONG MOTOR, Kuala Lumpur (03-40417576), YY PANG RACING MOTOR, Shah Alam (03-51215821), SAFE AIM MUTUAL SDN BHD, Kajang (03-87348787), RACELINE SDN BHD, Petaling Jaya (03-77852400, 77859500), SCK MOTOR, Shah Alam (03-55112594), SHAHROL YUZY MOTORSPORT, Puchong (03-83186062), LIBERTY CYCLE MOTOR, Puchong (03-80702227), ARTREE MOTOR, Petaling Jaya.

“If there’s time to lean, there’s time to clean.” The conventional view of productivity is that the more a worker works and the fewer the breaks they take, then most productive they will be. But productivity is not that simple.

Co-workers of all different skill levels make up a work crew. So if a veteran tradesman and a novice take a lunch break together, the novice has the opportunity to socialize with the tradesman. He can learn a trade secret, he can get a mentor-style review of his techniques, he can pick up information about the purpose of the project at hand and how he fits into the plan to get it done.

The veteran tradesmen can get an idea of the novice’s interest in the project at hand their attitude toward the tasks they are doing, mishaps of family life that might strain the worker’s focus.

With the amount of background information and soft facts that can be exchanged, with the team-building that can occur, break time is an essential part of the day for workers, especially when guided productively by a savvy foreman.

Coaxial –100 feet.
Cat6 – 300 feet.
Composite –50 feet.
S-Video –60 feet.
VGA –50 feet. (VGA with a DA is about 100 Feet.)
DVI –30 Feet.
Shielded Audio Cable –150 feet.
HDMI –32 feet.

Like I said earlier though different gauge and different quality of copper will always make a big difference in those lengths, but if you just go to Best Buy or your basic local retail store that sells consumer products most of their degradation lengths are the one’s above.

A new arrival in the Expert category of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship this season

A new arrival in the Expert category of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship this season, Mohd Emir Firdaus Hassan knows that he is staying on the right track despite going through a rollercoaster ride.

The 20-year old rider chalked up his first ever podium finish in Round 7 (Pekan) by finishing the Expert race in third placing. Meanwhile, his second best performance was a fourth place at Kuala Terengganu (Round 3). He worst outing was coming in 13th at Batu Kawan (Round 6). However, after eight rounds of the championship, Emir is currently sixth overall in the standings with 64 points.

As a result, among all the Novice riders that were promoted to the Expert class this season, namely Elly Idzliaikmal Ilias, Mohd Adli Salihin, Abdul Muhaimin Roslan and Shahril Izzuwan Md Noor, Emir of Motul Yamaha YY Pang is the best rookie thus far.

Elly Idzliaikmal representing Suzuki Harian Metro SCK stands ninth in the standings with 52 points, Emir’s teammate, Adli is 14th with 40 points, and one rank behind Adli is Shahril of Idemitsu Honda Racing with 28 points. As for 2008 Novice Champion, Muhaimin (Shell Advance Yamaha Maju) who missed out three races is in 21st position with 8 points.

The 2007 Wira epg Champion and 2008 Novice runner-up rider acknowledges that not many Novice riders can adapt quickly in their first Expert season. “Racing with the big guns is really challenging. The level of competiveness is a notch higher,” he said.

Emir went on to elaborate, “In the Novice class, you will probably have to fend off challenges from only five top riders but in the Expert, all of them are your rivals. Besides that, in Expert every time you go out on the track, doesn’t matter it is only practice or timed practice, it’s crucial as our feedback after each session will make a different for us to stay competitive.”

“However, I know I am slowly but surely adapting in this premier class. I might not be the most outstanding rider but I managed to finish all the races thus far and was able to collect points. Being able to get a spot on the podium in the Expert class is a great achievement for me. It has given me the much needed confidence boost.”

Commenting on his performance so far this year, he said “At the moment, I am quite satisfied with my results as my target is to finish the season in the top-5. Now I rank sixth and I still have two more rounds to catch up with fifth placing, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong who has 87 points. It will be an uphill task but I am not willingly to give up yet, not until I try and give my very best,” added Emir who hopes for another podium finish again.

(Versi Bahasa Malaysia)

I’m surrounded by knitters: experienced knitters, free-spirited knitters, thrifty knitters, picky knitters, even knitters that knit in church. Finally, all this knitting peer-pressure got to me, and I took the plunge into the world of needles and yarn.

I’ve been on this knitting adventure for a couple of months now. I know 3 different stitches (2 I learned on purpose, and 1 by accident). I can slip a stitch for the edges (which I think may be called “selvedge,” but I’m not too sure on that). I can cast on and off… if I have a diagram in front of me. I’ve given other novice knitters advice and showed someone how to do a stitch. I even joined the knitting group at my church.

So, when I finished my first scarf today, I was feeling pretty good. In fact, I felt like a “real” knitter. I decided I was ready to start my next project all on my own and began searching the internet for a pattern. I was wanting to knit my daughter a scarf, so I put something like “kid scarf knitting patterns” into the search engine. What came up were patterns for kids to knit… and I didn’t understand a word of them!

OK, not completely true. I understood enough to know they were way out of my league. “Cables?” Are you serious?! That put a bit of a pin in my big old knitting ego. Maybe I’ve still got a lot to learn from my knitter friends.

In the mean time, I did find a pattern I think I may be able to handle. And as long as I keep knitting, I think I’m a “real” knitter, even if I have no idea what “cable needle at front of work” means.

Over the course of the past 2+ months I’ve recalled several (sometimes painful) events that relate my personal experience to the way people learn and how technology may affects that learning. So what have I discovered not only about cognition but also about myself? I have been threatened professionally by the confounding of novice and expert through mass-consumption resources, such as the internet, which has spawned a culture of “armchair experts”. I have realized that my elementary school experiences, particularly under the tutelage of the infamous Mrs. Smink have informed my understanding that childern learn in particular ways, and that learning may be tied to a particular type of intelligence, and that intelligence may be either nurtured or, in my case, neglected.

I have learned that thinking critically about information and working at forming relationships that raise questions and promote further investigation may be the most meaningful way to engage students. I have discovered that although using technology in the classroom can be a useful way to place learners in ”real-world”, albeit simulated situations, there is no substitute for the “real-world”. Upon reflection, I have realized that the experience I gained was not well served by my previous college experience, as I came out of school under-prepared on more than one occasion.

What I have discovered most importantly is that putting knowledge into action helps form connections between seemingly unrelated contexts, and that although drill and practice was important to my own professional and creative development, it was personal experience that formed the strongest bonds.

Wow, my first one ^^
Hope I've got it right, though I'm pretty sure it is. Put a capo
on 5 if you want to play along to the track, but if you're just
singin' with your guitar... I found this a much easier tone to sing
to XD
Well, here are the chords to yet another beautiful Mika Masterpiece:

C Em
Don't wake up, won't wake up, can't wake up, no, don't wake me up
(Repeat)

         C Em
It's the early morn'
                     Am
Lights flick on
                              Dm G C
Sleepy eyes peek through the blinds at something wrong
          Em
Motionless remains the mess
Am Dm G
Shame, such a beautiful, beautiful, young life

C Em Am
By the time I'm dreaming, and you've crept out on me sleeping
                  Dm G C
I'm busy in the blissful unaware
                  Em Am
By the time I'm dreaming, and you've crept out on me sleeping
                Dm G C
Tell me, how am I supposed to care?

Then repeat the 'Don't wake up' bit, and another verse + chorus.

After the second chorus, the bridge starts. Only I couldn't really
figure that one out. I hope someone will. Maybe I will, some day.
If someone else finds it before I do and wants to post it with the
rest of this song, please do. I would not feel offended: I have no
rights to this song, these chords are just what I heard when I tried
it on my guitar; anyone as much a novice as myself could have heard
it, all one needs to do is take the time for it..

Much love from me and remember... love love MIKA!

Taking part in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix is their biggest achievements to date for Malaysi

Taking part in the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix is their biggest achievements to date for Malaysian Wildcard entries, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias and Md Zulfahmi Khairuddin who went up against world-class 125cc riders in Sepang last month to come out 16th and 20th spot respectively.

Relieved would be one of the many feelings both Elly and Fahmi experience. The 125cc was no ordinary race but it was their judgement day- the test to see if they have what it takes to battle it out against world-class riders-which they did.

Now that they have proven they possess the talent, what happens next?

Though there have been talks about Elly participating in Moto2, while Fahmi is being absorbed into Team Ongetta ISPA, it’s still too early to confirm. However, both riders do hope to follow the MotoGP full season-if the opportunity presents itself.

One thing for sure, both Wildcard riders are grateful to the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship which has provided them the exposure when it comes to two wheels motorsports.

Elly who races in the Expert class of the national series for PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong now views the national series in a different light-a gateway for local riders who dreams of racing side by side the world’s best.

“It is every rider’s dream to race in the MotoGP. It seemed impossible not long ago but now, with the Wildcard Programme, it is no longer a dream,” he said.

Elly went on to add, “For Malaysian riders, the Cub Prix arena is the perfect platform to train and prepare before trying out for the programme. I’ve learned a lot about racing from it such as how a rider’s fitness level is important and how the correct attitude, discipline and mindset play a crucial role as well. And the younger your age when you realize this, the better,” said the 25 years old.

Much alike his senior partner, Fahmi too was happy and proud to have made his way into the 125cc category through the Malaysian Cub Prix.

“No doubt, the riders in the 125cc category were powerful and skilful. It’s a whole new level altogether but the little experience I have racing in the Malaysian Cub Prix help me overcome it,” said the 18 years old.

“Though the bikes used between these two races are different, the core principles remain the same-fitness, strategy, skill and machine. Without the basic knowledge I acquired from my years in the Cub Prix Championship, it would have been impossible for me to compete in the international arena,” concluded Fahmi.

Fahmi races in the Novice class of the national series for team Modenas Yuzy Pachi Racing.

(Versi Bahasa Malaysia)

When I first started as an Archaeologist during the summer of 1992, during my epic 8-year battle wi

When I first started as an Archaeologist during the summer of 1992, during my epic 8-year battle with undergraduate studies, I was pretty unsure of myself. I was far from home (at 22, not really a problem), staying with a bunch of people I did not really know all that well, in an unfamiliar setting , which happened to be the sweltering farm fields of southern Ohio. On day 1 we were given picks, shovels and buckets and told to dig. Digging seemed easy enough, hauling out the dirt, etc., but during those first days what was missing was the context. I had an idea of why I was digging (looking for some signs of past human activity) but no knowledge of the inner-workings, the mechanics of how to excavate a site, beyond the physicality. Until I learned what the big picture was, and all the small pictures that comprised it, I was merely a laborer.

Typical day for an Archaeologist.

Eventually I did learn how context was so important to the process. Anyone can get a shovel, go dig a hole, and take out the artifacts. Those are called looters. Being an Archaeologist entailed not only the physical skills to be able to carefully (and sometime brutally) excavate a site, but what to record, how to record it, seeing variations in soil layers (see a previous post), and placing the artifacts within a context. This, of course, is on top of the academic framework that is required to further understand just what it is you are looking for, and what it is when you find it.

Chapter 9 of How People Learn sets a similar, and predictable, stage of how the integration of technology can be utilized to improve understanding contexts. Technology can be employed to create context-rich environments in which students can learn by doing, refine their understanding and build new knowledge, and receive feedback that enables them to move forward. Although there is no substitute for working in a muddy Ohio pit assailed by mosquitoes and ticks, using technology in the classroom can be a useful way to place learners in ”real-world”, albeit simulated situations, where you are forced to be pragmatic while also understanding why that may be necessary. The authors demonstrate through many examples how this may be accomplished.

I can’t help but refer back to Richard Clark’s assertion that the technology (“media”) alone will never influence how people learn. All of the examples in Chapter 9 lean heavily on utilizing the correct methodology for each situation. So is the technology merely a powerful tool, not unlike the shovel and the pick, whose primary function is being applied in the proper way, or can it be transformative? Can it be, as Vannevar Bush put it, something that frees the human mind to pursue its creative capacities? As we discovered with Clark, and Kozma, the jury is still out whether or not technology can attain a level of capability to influence learning that matches the ability of the learner to embrace it.

After eight intensifying rounds and two more to go, it all boils down to PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline and PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong to battle it out who deserves to be crowned best Expert team for this season of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship.

PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Raceline currently leads the Expert team awards with 212 points thanks to its two Expert riders, Ahmad Fuad Baharudin and Md Iskandar Raduan.

Fuad secured two chequered flag this season with the first being the opening leg in Alor Setar, Kedah and the latest in Round 8, Kangar, Perlis. However, the 30 years old rider dropped slightly in terms of performance between the two rounds. He got a DNF for Round 2 in Kluang, finished second in Round 3, fifth in Round 4, sixth in Round 5, fifth again in Round 6 and fourth in Round 7.

Iskandar unlike Fuad failed to score any chequered flags but the 24 years old managed to climb up the podium four times in Round 1, Round 2, Round 3 and Round 5-much consistent than his senior. As for the other rounds, Iskandar finished fourth in Round 4, did not qualify for Round 6, got a DNF for Round 7 and finished fourth in Round 8.

Team manager, Barry Leong is satisfied with his boys’ performance but made emphasis the fight is far from over, “We hope to finish the season strong and bag the Expert team awards. The issue right now is for Fuad and Iskandar to maintain their pace and deliver their best for the remaining two rounds. I believe it is achievable because at the moment both of them are fired up and the Expert machines have shown some strong improvements since Kangar. If they win the Expert team award, it will be the best Christmas present for the team adding on to the joy that Hafizh and Hafieenaz have already secured the Novice team awards,” said Barry.

PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Ah Hong on the other hand holds 203 points in the Expert team standings- nine points adrift in second place after Md Zamri Baba snatched the chequered flags from Round 3 and Round 7 and finished three races- Round 4, Round 5 and Round 6 on the podium. The 26 years old also finished sixth for Round 1, DNF for Round 2 and did not qualify for the final race in Round 8.

Teammate, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias contributed by getting hold of two chequered flags in Round 2 and Round 4.

Team manager, Kenny Chua is confident with his riders. He is certain they still stand a chance to bag the Expert team awards. “I am confident Zamri and Elly will make their way up the podium in the next two rounds. Both of them are extremely talented and I believe it will not be a problem for them to secure the best Expert team title,” said Kenny.

Meanwhile, Shell Advance Yamaha Maju stands comfortably in third place with 163 points followed by Suzuki Harian Metro SCK with 99 points and Motul Yamaha YY Pang, 89 points.

This week, I decided to use my website, jgkeegan.com, to make some extra money. For the last eleven years, my graduate research papers and, recently, my master’s work have been freely available for download in PDF format. Much of my work was downloaded consistently. Many of my papers were downloaded over sixty times in a week over several months. With that amount of interest, I thought if I charged a reasonable price, people would pay it. I set up a PayPal account, designed a new webpages to sell my work in PDF format, and charged $2.00 per PDF. My most popular paper during the free download period was Cholera: The Work of William Farr and John Snow, so it is the first item offered in pay per download. The second item is a project Decolonization and Indo-China. For $2.00 customers receive by email a zip file containing PDF of the paper, the in-class PowerPoint presentation, and the presentation handout. Neither item has sold yet.

Graduate level papers are not going to sell like hotcakes, but based on available data, I hoped to make at least one sale week. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?
