La banda gallega “Kannon” vuelve con nueva formación tras el sorprendente anuncio de su disolución en 2006. La banda tiene intención de hacer una gira con los temas antiguos antes de centrarse en la finalización y grabación de un nuevo álbum que ya tiene nombre “Cinco lágrimas para la quinta esencia”.

La banda de Vigo se compone ahora por Vicente, Martiño, Gerardo, Eloy y Sandra. “Kannon” surgió como una banda de rap-metal con toques de nu-metal y rap-rock. Pero en su último álbum antes de la disolución “Destino”, su estilo da un giro para centrarse en un rock más tradicional pero sin perder su esencia. Esperamos ansiosos su nuevo álbum. Cuando haya novedades os informaré.

I searched online for Myanmar metal stuff last night and found a forum. With great expectations, I clicked on the link.

What I found?

They were talking about… nu-metal??? Yes, nu-metal. Frigging hell mallcore stuff like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson. There were even people who mentioned Linkin Park and Flyleaf.

Seriously! There was nothing on it but mallcore. -.-

Next one was a blog. He was talking about Slipknot and how much he likes them and on another blog was an article on Myanmar metal scene and the author was talking about Bullet For My Valentine, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium. Frigging Metalcore.

There were even some people who said,”Slipknot is Death Metal”. Ya, go die. It pisses me off when I hear people saying crap like that.

Mallcore, Nu-metal, Metalcore, BFMV, A7X, Marilyn Manson, BMTH, blah blah blah and it goes on and on and on in a never finishing mallcore whirlpool. This is what’s happening  in Myanmar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Metal albums aren’t that rare anymore. You can pretty much buy them here. (Last week I got Black Sabbath:The Dio Years and Megadeth’s Endgame.) Or you can download them via Mediafire or 4shared (which I usually do).

Still people are still drowning in the mallcore whirlpool… labeling themselves “metalheads” with Slipknot songs in their mp3 players.

apparently it’s 1997 in russia right now. f.r.y. thought they were clawfinger and this band thinks they’re korn. for fuck’s sake – close the iron curtain already, it’s letting all the bullshit in.

Have you ever been in a remotely similiar situation as this? For example, where you’re talking with someone you’ve just met and you get your iPod out, and so you ask them what kind of music they like. And they reply, “oh, lots. I like lots of different genres”. You give them your iPod, and they hate every single fricking song.

I honestly love all kinds of music. I’ve been getting into gothic metal (Evanescence, Within Temptation) over the past year, and I’ve also really liked stuff like Linkin Park, System of a Down etc. Nu Metal, I think the genre is?

Now, I’m starting to like British rap. There’s just something that I absolutely love about the London accent that rappers like Dizzee Rascal have. I pick up that accent really easily, I end up using it when I meet my second cousin.. I don’t really like any other rap, except for Eminem. His songs are actually entertaining y’know? You don’t have to be really into rap to enjoy them. Click more, for the music videos etc.

Tinchy Stryder’s You’re not alone (in Sugar they had an article about where they went to the filming (or atleast the beginning) of this music video, he sounds really sweet). There’s just something about how he says on in you keep holding on that I love

Det er ett par sanger som er bra her. Men det er alt for mange kjedelige låter også. VELDIG mye albumfyll.

De høres egentlig veldig Slipknot inspirert ut etter min mening. Vokalen gir meg veldig Slipknot følelse og musikken høres ut som noe nytt Slipknot og en del fra Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat

De får litt ekstra høy score fordi de har forbedra seg mye fra de tidligere albummene etter min mening.

So here it is. A blog. One of literally thousands littering the great digital ether, and every bit as inconsequential as any of them. Except, quite obviously, for FUPenguin.com. (Go ahead, go there. Go there and say goodbye to your afternoon.)

I’d lay out the how’s and why’s of this little project’s genesis, but it seems premature, for precisely the reason films are rarely immediately preceded by the “making-of” DVD extra. So with that said, just what the hell is with that title, huh?

Sept. 29, 8:45 p.m., on the No. 4 Train home: Visually, the woman sitting across from me on the Subway doesn’t make a damn bit of sense. She looks to be in her mid-40s, maybe older, and of average height and build. She’s wearing (in the order that I noticed them) a pink Static-X t-shirt, flare-leg jeans hemmed with safety pins and low-cut Chuck Taylors that have been hand-painted gold. She has with her the following items: a small shopping bag from Crate & Barrel, a black purse and a copy of Marie Claire.

Now I could really have cared less about the jeans, shoes, shopping bag or magazine. In fact, their combined inclusion in Madame’s sartorial goulash only led me to believe that this woman was not homeless or (at least visibly) mentally ill. What interested and puzzled me more than anything was the shirt.

For those who don’t remember or weren’t interested in such matters (and my how I envy you), Static-X were one of about a dozen or so truly awful heavy metal bands producing inexplicably well-selling albums near the end of the 20th century. Their fans were, to oversimplify only a bit, young, overwhelmingly male and quite stupid, preoccupied with all things “dark” or “black” or some such silliness. I am shamed, now, to have counted myself among them in my teens. I admit with aching regret ownership of more than a few of those groups’ aforementioned aural excrement, and shall spend the rest of my days seeking only mercy for my sins.

So, considering the nature of those bands (remember: young, stupid men obsessed with “dark” stuff) I could not understand how their logo even found its way onto a pink shirt, let alone into the hands of a middle-aged woman. I started to dissect a number of possible scenarios (it was/is her daughter’s shirt; one of her sons is in the band; her taste in music is, at best, questionable) when I noticed the man sitting a few seats away from her. He was reading what appeared to be a graphic novel (comic book, for those of you with plans Friday night) based on the now-defunct Fox series “Alias,” and I…I, dear reader, have begun to doubt my senses. A panic washes over me akin to the feeling of dread one experiences when, midway through the cab ride, you realize you told the driver LaGuardia when you meant JFK.

In an instant, I am quite convinced this train will not be taking me home…

Incubus - Make Yourself

Formados en Calabasas (California), a principios de los 90, pronto se convirtieron en un referente de la escena “Nu metal”, principalmente por sus actuaciones compartiendo gira con Korn, o participando en el festival Ozzfest.

Después de un par de álbums siguiendo una linia claramente rap metalera, Incubus profundizaron más en su sonido y se abrieron a nuevos registros, más propios del rock alternativo. Línea que seguirían posteriormente con el tremendo “Morning View”. Se puede considerar este “Make Yourself” como el punto de inflexión en el sonido Incubus. Un disco donde comparten protagonismo riffs pesados, scratches y una base rítmica contundente, con las voces limpias y cada vez más acojonantes de Brandon Boyd (aunque a ratos su uso de la voz sea sospechosamente similar al de Anthony Kiedis).

Un álbum tranquilo pero intenso, que incluye temas de sobra conocidos como “Stellar”, “Drive” o “Pardon Me”. Aunque yo me quedo con “The Warmth”, un tema de los de viajar, bien lejos.

limp bizkit? siapa yang tahu band ini? atau jangan jangan anda sudah melupakannya? hahaha… yap, band ini adalah band yang menemani hari hari saya ketika jaman SMP dulu, dimana bersanding dengan Korn, Slipknot, bahkan Greenday maupun Blink 182, tapi band yang lain nampak tenggelam begitu saja tertelan dengan kejamnya dinamika industri musik yang keras, mulai bermunculan banyak aliran aliran musik baru, lebih keras, lebih garang, lebih bergaya, lebih banyak berteriak, tidak ada lagi embel embel rap, funk, apapun itu disebutnya, orang orang bilang itu adalah musik cadas dan seterusnya. tapi kemanakah limp bizkit, setelah sempat kehilangan gitaris yang sudah menjadi icon sekaligus trendsetter bagi seluruh dunia di jaman millenium, limp bizkit tenggelam begitu saja, sempat tampil dengan gitaris baru yang banyak orang selalu kritik tidak pernah ada yang bisa menggantikan wes borland, tapi saya tetap membeli album mereka dengan gitaris barunya, saya tetap suka dengan musiknya walaupun sudah meninggalkan ciri khas rap metalnya maupun hip metalnya. tapi setelah sekian lama hilang kembali. limp bizkit kembali dengan formasi lamanya, wes borland pun kembali, mereka ingin kembali bermain musik, dan saya kaget setengah mati ketika saya menemukan live concert mereka yang terakhir sekaligus bersama wes borland di festival musik download bersama sama dengan band band “uzur” pula yaitu Korn, Slipknot, bahkan Faith No More, tapi bukan limp bizkit namanya kalau tidak mempunyai ciri khas, dan ciri khas itu telah kembali… welcome back wes borland.

31.10.2009 – Chemnitz, Sanitätsstelle

Eigentlich hatte ich mich von den Bands, die an diesem Abend ihren Auftritt hatten, beim Reinhören keine so richtig begeistern können. Ich bin dann aber trotzdem zum Konzert gegangen, schließlich habe ich schon öfter erlebt, dass Bands, die mir aus der Konserve nicht so zusagten, live dennoch mächtig gerockt haben.

Ausserdem hatte ich so Gelegenheit, mir den relativ neuen “Sanitätsstelle“-Club anzusehen. Der Club ist ziemlich klein, so dass es, obwohl eigentlich gar nicht so viele Besucher da waren, es zwischenzeitlich ziemlich eng zuging. Dafür scheint er aber (soweit ich das beurteilen kann) technisch gut ausgestattet zu sein, und Eintritt und Getränkepreise bewegen sich auf einem erfreulichen Niveau. Da werde ich sicherlich wieder hingehen, wenn es musikalisch passt.

Den Opener an diesem Abend durften Coalest aus Dresden machen. Auf ihrer Myspace-Seite ordnen sie sich selbst unter “Progressive/Metal/Hardcore” ein, auf den ausliegenden Flyern wurde die Musik als “Nu-Core” bezeichnet. Progressiv konnte ich sie jetzt nicht unbedingt finden, aber die anderen Bezeichnungen passen schon so – die Kameraden spielen eine Mischung aus Nu Metal mit Core-Gehüpfe, glücklicherweise ohne den nervenden Wechsel zwischen Shouts und weinerlichem Klargesang, den ich im Nu Metal schon öfter zu hören bekommen habe. Apropos Gesang: der hätte etwas lauter sein können, er wurde des öfteren von den Instrumenten übertönt. Die aktuelle EP gibt es übrigens hier zum kostenlosen & legalen Download.

Als nächstes am Start: Last Chapter aus Leipzig. Sie spielen schlicht und einfach Metalcore. Breakdowns und Geschrei. Ein Sänger im Unterhemd, der auf dicke Hose macht. Ich mag keinen Metalcore (merkt man vielleicht ein bisschen ). Dem Publikum hat’s allerdings gefallen. Ich habe mir das nur angehört, weil ich auf die nächsten Bands gewartet habe.

Fatality Inc. haben die Anreise aus Ingolstadt für ihren Auftritt in Chemnitz auf sich genommen. Sie bezeichnen ihre Musik selbst als Thrashcore, bei den Metal Archives laufen sie unter Groove Metal. Genau darauf haben sie offenbar besonderen Wert gelegt, auf den Groove. Die Songs bewegten sich alle im Midtempo-Bereich und betonten extrem ihren Mitwipp-Rhythmus. Das machte am Anfang schon erst mal einen ganz brauchbaren Eindruck, konnte aber auf Dauer nicht richtig fesseln, weil einfach ein bisschen die Abwechslung gefehlt hat. Der Gesang hat mir recht gut gefallen, der würde wahrscheinlich auch einer “echten” Thrash-Band nicht schlecht zu Gesicht stehen. Als ich noch überlegt habe, woran mich das Ganze (ganz besonders der Gesang) erinnert, hat mir die Band auf die Sprünge geholfen, indem sie eine Coverversion von Sepulturas “Refuse/Resist” angestimmt haben. Sepultura zu “Chaos A.D.”-Zeiten könnte tatsächlich etwas als Vorbild gedient haben.

Zum Abschluss durften dann noch die Chemnitzer Narph ran. Leider hatte sich zu diesem Zeitpunkt das Publikum schon deutlich gelichtet, während das Auftritts traten dann nochmals eine Menge Zuschauer den Rückzug an, um noch den Nachtbus nach Hause zu erwischen, so dass die vier dann ihr Set vor ungefähr zehn Zuschauern zu Ende spielen durften. Drei Uhr früh ist aber auch tatsächlich ein bisschen spät für das Ende eines Konzerts, da sollten die Veranstalter doch mal darüber nachdenken, das Ganze früher zu beginnen (die erste Band startete erst nach 22 Uhr) oder von vorneherein nur drei Bands statt vier auftreten zu lassen.

Trotzdem war Narph für mich die beste Band des Abends. Sie spielen einen Mix aus modernem Metal à la Ektomorf & Co. und Rock. Auch hier gab es einen ordentlichen Groove, diese Parts waren aber vergleichsweise kurz, da häufig Tempowechsel und Breaks eingebaut, ausserdem auch häufig ruhigere Parts eingestreut wurden. Das sorgte für die nötige Abwechslung. Den Gesangsaufgabe teilten sich Bassist und Gitarrist, wobei der Bassist eher für die cleanen Parts zuständig war, der Gitarrist eher für die Shouts. Insbesondere der klare Gesang war dabei wirklich gelungen. Häufig habe ich ja schon erlebt, dass das Ergebnis ziemlich schräg klingt, wenn sich Metaller an so einem Gesangsstil versuchen – das war hier zum Glück nicht so, stattdessen wurden gute, druckvolle Rock-Vocals geboten. Insgesamt ein guter und kurzweiliger Auftritt, dem ich mehr Zuschauer gewünscht hätte.
