Anyone who knows me knows that I hate Lady Gaga. HATE. I guess I just don’t get it. She likes to portray herself as being edgy, but she’s nothing more than a mash-up of earlier TRULY edgy female stars. She looks like she was scraped off the bottom of the recycling bin: a Madonna top here, a Cher wig there. ACK. I hate unoriginality and I DESPISE posers. The worst part? SHE CAN’T EVEN SING! Her songs have a good beat and are drunk-dance-worthy, but they’re nothing that I would consider to be actual music. She’s more known for her “shocking” appearance than her music and I, for one, think that’s shameful.

Alas, her ridiculous lack of talent and annoying antics are not the intended topic of this post. The intended topic is her very evident schlong peeking out from under her dress. This is wrong on SO MANY levels. I don’t really care if she’s a hermaphrodite; I don’t discriminate about things like that. What I DO care about is that she’s a total hypocrite … and a gross one at that.

If you have a peeper and still feel the need to wear a tiny dress, all the more power to you. Do us all a favor tho and strap that thing down. I showed no mercy when Lindsay flashed her flamethrower all over town and I’m not going to show any now. I don’t have any desire to see your genitalia. In fact, I’m going to venture to guess that MOST people would rather live their whole life without having to see your little nubbin. KEEP IT COVERED.

More important than keeping your nether regions properly hidden, is being a GOOD FUCKING PERSON. Perez Hilton is all over every closeted gay celebrity out there, trying to force them out into the open. He claims that if they stay closeted, they’re doing a disservice to the entire LGBT community and are “ashamed” of themselves. Perez feels that since he’s out of the closet, EVERYONE should be out of the closet and apparently doesn’t respect the right each person has to handle such a difficult situation in their own time and on their own terms. As Perez’s “wifey” and BFF, Lady Gaga supports this. How can someone who is supposedly trying to be a gay icon (even though she’s just a confused mess of a copycat) be so disrespectful to the LGBT community and then hide her own intersex? Not only is she cruel and untalented, she’s also a hypocrite. Awesome. Dude CAN dance, though.

That, my friends, is either a teeny tiny peeper or one big fat cooter. I'm leaning towards the former. Photo courtesy of http://www.TheInsider.com

This is screenshot from a video of one of her performances. "Lady" Gaga is DEFINITELY hiding a disco stick in that HID dress. Keep it covered, you beak-nosed trainwreck. Photo courtesy of http://www.slackerchic.blogspot.com

BTDubs, Perez is doing nothing to deny the rumors, leading me to up my assurance that I’m right from 75% to a whopping 90%. He re-Tweeted a post from his latest musical conquest (who shan’t be named because the Pop Culture Vultures are anything but sell-outs): “Who cares about Gaga’s penis or not!!!! Some people are so stupid, a penis a pussy, well where’s music in all that stuff…!!!!“ There’s no musical signifigance to be found in hermaphrodite rumors; there’s also no musical signifigance to be found in Lady Gaga. I think THERE is where you’ll find the correlation. There’s always the chance she’s just doing it for publicity, but I highly doubt it.

Side Note, re the tweet: Since when are exclamation points freely interchangable with question marks!

Thought about upgrading your home network to wireless-N specification, but conerned about getting a USB Adaptor for your non wireless-N capable laptop?

Well most USB adaptors aren’t exactly what you would call small. However, the new Mvix Nubbin changes this completely!

Get speeds up to 150mb/s over your home network, and best of all, it’s only 3/4 of an inch big!

Now might be the time to upgrade that home network!

Its compatible with Windows/Mac/Linux

Nubbin retails for $39 (~£25) check out the Mvix website for more information.

A sprinkling of rain here is like a fucking blizzard in any other country. Everything grinds to an absolute and utter halt. People refuse to leave the cover of shelter for fear of their hair getting wet.

People who usually fly along at double the speed limit suddenly age 40 years and drive like an old person – super slow, hunched over the wheel. Traffic grinds to a halt, deliveries don’t get done and nothing functions.

Ok, I admit, I hate the rain. I hate getting wet in the first place and being damp and cold for hours afterwards. I hate having to change my clothes. I hate having to run to my car scrambling for my keys. But it doesn’t make me stop functioning as a human being.

This isn’t specifically translation-related, but given that many translators live in bilingual households, I think it’s not OT either. My colleague and friend Eve Bodeux recently launched a new blog, appropriately titled Blogging on Bilingualism, with articles and resources of interest to bilingual families or really anyone interested in bilingualism. As Eve’s “About” page says “This is a blog discussing practical approaches and tips for parents who would like to raise their children bilingually or with exposure to two or more languages. Even if your family’s goal is not bilingualism per se, exposure to a second language has many benefits from both social and developmental perspectives. Though my main target audience is families who are bilingual or aspiring to be so, foreign language teachers will also find good ideas for encouraging their students’ international journey.” Enjoy!

I haven’t yet started using Twitter, but I have a number of Facebook friends who feed their Tweets to their Facebook status updates (is that enough Web 2.0 references in one sentence?), and I’ve wondered about the meaning of the hash mark (#) that people include in their Tweets. For example “I was talking on my #iPhone…” or “Going to a #Boulder Media Women event…”. If you’re also wondering, here’s an easy to follow explanation from Kristine Wirth’s blog. In brief, the hash marks are a sort of keyword tag in Twitter, and if you’re willing to sacrifice one of your precious 140 characters, the term that you tag with the hash mark will then show up on the hashtags website. Once you’ve visited the hashtags website, you can then add the decidedly Web 2.0 term “real-time news community” to your vocabulary!

I was recently interviewed for two posts on fellow bloggers’ websites; I’m sharing these links not for self-promotional purposes, but in case any readers have an interest in the topics that the interviews cover:

The home-based work gurus over at Rat Race Rebellion (Don’t you love that name? Their main site is here) interviewed me about the basics of starting a home-based translation business. RRR has a subscription-based weekly bulletin of home-based jobs, and they also work in interesting areas such as training military spouses to launch and run home-based businesses that can move with them as their spouses change locations. This isn’t a link exchange, I just think that the RRR folks and their programs are very interesting!

Rafter interviewed me about self-publishing using print-on-demand, and the interview focuses on the process of publishing my book How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator. Michelle and I had been virtual friends up until now; I started reading her blog a number of months ago, then we connected on LinkedIn, so it was a lot of fun to have an hour on the phone with her!

This one will probably make the rounds as fast as the Welsh roadsign/autoresponder, but today’s post on Language Log has a wonderful and humorous warning about the dangers of monolingualism. The BBC News reports that Irish police have been frantically hunting for one “Prawo Jazdy,” a Polish man who had, according to the police, accumulated more than 50 driving violations while giving a different home address each time. Except… Prawo Jazdy isn’t even a person’s name, but rather the words “Driver’s License” in Polish, which appear in bold text at the top of the license itself (you can see a photo of this on the BBC site). With Poles currently representing Ireland’s largest immigrant population, the slippery Mr. Jazdy has been showing up all over the country…and as the BBC article points out, “Irish police officers should now know at least two words of Polish.”

Okay, teachers (and students): I’m looking for songs to use for teaching about the judiciary. They can be anything from folk tunes to pop music, but the lyrics should relate to a concept we cover in the judiciary unit - the law, justice, authority, etc. Students, we might just be analyzing these songs in class, so pick something you like! Have fun!

When choosing a song for the assignment, please make sure you use the following guidelines:

Be sure to cite the artist and song – e.g., “Mercedes Benz,” by Janis Joplin.

If your song has profanity, you must ——– [bleep] them out. Do not write out any curse words.

Select 4-5 lines of the lyrics that best capture the reason you selected the song for the judicial branch unit. You may also choose lyrics from different verses: for example, 2 lines from verse 1, and 3 lines fromverse 2, etc.

Write one paragraph (of at least 50 words) that defends your song selection that you quoted above. Why did you choose your song? What content do the lyrics illustrate?

11/05 So the New York Times has been publishing a series of articles about sleep, one of them being a study of nightmares and how they are an important way for the mind to settle out the fears and troubles of the waking world. This inspired me to take up a dream journal again – I’m on quite an internal journey of late and this seemed like a great way to proceed. So the other night I settled down with a notebook and pencil nearby and prepared my psyche to dream-out whatever negative things it might be holding in. And that night I had a really hot dream about making out with Brad Pitt – a surprise and a treat let me tell ya! Who knew those were the sorts of things my psyche was hiding from me. God bless you New York Times. God bless you.
