La propuesta de Los Rumbers sobre el escenario se traduce en una combinación de flamenco, música electrónica y baile. No cabe la menor duda de que el flamenco de Los Rumbers se escucha, se baila, se canta y se acompaña con las palmas, estableciendo una nueva visión que acerca el flamenco a un público más amplio.

Su montaje más reciente, bautizado como Flamenco Breaks (Guassa Groove Records’08), que gira en torno a los doce temas de su único álbum hasta la fecha. No se trata de un concierto flamenco al uso, ya que tiene como objetivo ofrecer la vanguardia del flamenco.

El alma mater de Los Rumbers es Pete Lamotta, DJ, músico. A&R y productor con un extenso curriculum de colaboraciones con músicos del más variado pelaje y que, desde hace bastante tiempo, es endorser de los productos Numark.

Pete utiliza productos Numark porque, en su opinión, “Los productos Numark están a la vanguardia…”.

Alors qu’on a tous enterré le concurrent direct de DJ Hero avant même qu’il soit sorti (et moi le premier après avoir scratché le Dizzee Rascal x Justice, j’avoue), Scratch: The Ultimate DJ prend tout le monde par suprise en lâchant une petite vidéo promo bien intéressante.

Sur un segment complètement différent du jeu d’Actvision, Scratch privilégie la technique pure au mix de morceaux, avec une manette platine réalisée en collaboration avec Numark. La platine intègre également des pads de MPC, et semble globalement plus réaliste, ce qui laisse présager un battle un peu plus équilibré que ce que l’on pouvait penser. Même si DJ Hero a pris une sérieuse avance pour l’instant. Rewiiiiiiiind!

The rhythm-action tug of war continues today with the launch of a new trailer for Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, which appears to raise the middle finger at Freestyle Game’s brilliant DJ Hero. The trailer boasts that the controller, expertly built from the ground up and modelled on exisiting Numark DJ technology takes you as close to the real experience as possible. I admit, I approached the trailer with a degree of scepticism, but persevere and by the end of the trailer you may be half-convinced as well. Plus, the soundtrack revealed so far is an incredible hip-hop orgy.

I say half-convinced above as while the scratch techniques look pretty neat, the beat pad looks nothing more than a flashy peripheral version of basic rhythm games Boom Boom Rocket XBLA or Tap Tap Revenge iPhone. Plus the onsceen HUD and graphic layout looks a bit ropey, but then again the estimated release is a vague ‘early next year’ so anything can happen from now until the street date hits.

The only gripe here is why can’t we just have one rhythm-action franchise at any one time instead of two expensive titles both battling for market dominance? As rife negativity toward the DJ Hero pricepoint shows, people just aren’t willing to part with their gaming allowance as freely as they used to.

Im kommenden Update von Native Instruments Traktor wird eine native Unterstützung des NS 7 von Numark enthalten sein. Bisher war es lediglich möglich den Controller mit der mitgelieferten Software Itch aus dem Hause Serato zu steuern. Durch das Update von Traktor kann nun der NS 7 ohne ein händisches Mapping einfach mit Traktor verbunden werden. Noch einen kleinen Controller (z.b. den Korg NanoKontrol) dazulegen für die Effekte und es ergibt sich ein perfektes Traktor Setup. Von offizieller Seite wird noch geschwiegen, aber da es bereits die native Unterstützung für den VCI-300 auch schon gibt, warum sollte es hier diese nicht auch für den von Numark geben.

Configuring the Numark Stealth Control for the Complete Novice (Part 1) – Traktor 3.4

Earlier I had done somewhat of a short review/overview of the midi controller. This will be a follow up to that previous post. This time I will be going through configuring the controller for use with Traktor 3.4. In a future post, I will go through the different controller types and configuring the controller for use with Traktor Pro. Following that, I will try to give a few ideas of how controls can be assigned with both Traktor 3.4 and Traktor Pro.

First Things First

After connecting the midi controller, you will need to:

1. Launch Traktor 3.4
2. Open Preferences
3. Under Hotkey & MIDI Setup, select Midi Interfaces and make sure an ‘X’ is beside the controller for Midi In and Out

Configuring the controller

Now that the controller has been successfully connected, it’s time to do some configuring. You’ll have a few options here, you can either download a file containing the midi mappings for the controller or you can do it yourself. This is entirely up to you. As a side-note, it might be helpful to download the midi mapping file from Numark’s website just to get an idea of how things are assigned.

Last week in the review, I had mentioned that the LED for each button has a different midi note from the actual button which makes it retardedly annoying to configure. So, to make less annoying, I’m including a table that maps button to corresponding LED.

Mapping function to midi controls is done from the Midi Setup tab. assigning a function is super easy.

To assign a function

1. Click the add button and select the function you want to add
2. Click the learn button and press button you want to use
3. Click the learn button once more to deactivate learn mode

It’s that simple. Now you can perform a function in the software by pressing the corresponding button on the controller.

Hopefully, this has been of help. You may have noticed control types such as “toggle” and “direct”. In a future post I’ll talk about those in some amount of detail.

A few tips

Before I wrap this up, I wanted to leave a few tips

1. Always save your midi mappings as this will make life easier when having to migrate to another computer
2. Make a backup copy of all your settings and keep them on removable media or somewhere safe

It’s finally here, the new multimedia player by Pioneer. Some of the specs outlined in the video are impressive, adding a colour screen, DVD support, needle drop features and editing software. The Pacemaker integration is interesting as well because of Pioneer’s notoriety for always wanting to go it alone in everything they do. However, the majority of the features can be found on other players/DVS systems so Pioneer have played it relatively safe.

Weighing in at $2149 (around £1500) per player I can’t see too many bedroom DJs upgrading from the CDJ-1000s as the new features, although useful, aren’t so unique that it would be essential to buy the CDJ-2000. The price is around what you pay for a couple of Denon DNS-3700s or a Numark NS7 and a low end laptop. So in conclusion I cannot see many lower end users going immediately for the CDJ-2000, just nightclubs that the top flight DJs play in. They will be available in Europe and America from November.

As I know that a many of my viewers are from Spanish speaking countries I’ll include the Spanish version of the overview video as well.

Overall, the design is pretty solid and the components are well laid out. The knobs and faders were fairly smooth. The unit is encased in metal but the weight is not that much.

Using the Stealth Control

So far everything seems to be going well for the Stealth until it was time to actually use it. Since I already had Traktor 3 installed I downloaded the .tks (it’s really an xml file with traktor-specific tags) file from the Numark Website and loaded it. Somehow, I did not really like the way the controls were mapped. As a result I had to go in search of a solution and I was able to get help from a member of the DjTechtools forum. In the end, I decided to just map all the functions myself which is fairly easy.

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ, a new video game similar to DJ Hero, set to be released in early 2010, seems to have a more realistic “dj feel” than its counterpart. I had a chance to test DJ Hero earlier this summer and while I appreciate their efforts to recreate the dj experience, the game controller falls a bit short. Numark’s Scratch comes very close with its mini spinning turntable with a somewhat authentic vinyl record attached to it. There may not be an arm for you to scratch up the vinyl, but there are five buttons with a cross-fader. Scratch will allow the player to upload samples with a compatible USB mic, as well as use the preloaded ones. Check the vid below..

Endlich ist nun auch für den Numark Omni Control ein Treiber für Microsofts Windows Vista und XP  mit 64 Bit erhältlich. Damit ist nun der Omni Control quasi mit jedem modernen Laptop betreibbar, was bisher nicht der Fall war. Der Treiber befindet sich jedoch noch im Beta Stadium, so dass ein Live Einsatz vorerst mal noch aussen vor bleiben sollte. Benutzern von 32 Bit Systemen wird geraten den älteren Treiber weiter zuverwenden.
