Iya betul, Mas. Anda tidak salah alamat. Ini betul blognya Gentole. Alamatnya http://gentole.wordpress.com. Hah, apa? Judulnya enggak banget? Ah, biarin. Ini saya merasa perlu posting ini. Biar trefik blog saya naik diserbu ABG. Biar macet sampai leher botol sekalian kayak di jalan-jalan besar di Jakarta. Bukan untuk nampang selera musik ya. Toh, lagu yang saya shortlist juga tidak semuanya dianggap keren. Ada So7-nya. Saya cuma merasa mubazir aja ini. Lagu-lagu ini, karena sejarah hidup saya yang sering keliru dan berliku, lewat begitu saja tanpa pernah saya gunakan sebagaimana mestinya. Mungkin di kehidupan selanjutnya  saya bisa jadi ABG lagi. Terus ketemu pacar saya lagi untuk pertama kalinya (bahkan dalam pengandaian pun Anda harus tetap setia bung). Dan ini listnya:

Saya merasa dunia sebelum ada internet dan HP itu jauh lebih romantis. Kayaknya susah mendapatkan keterus-terangan  yang gamblang seperti yang ditunjukkan Bang Iwan di zaman sekarang. Karena Mbak-Mbak jadul, polos dan pendiam seperti model klip di atas juga udah jarang. Perempuan zaman sekarang sepertinya lebih talkative dan bawel. Tidak bisa dibodohi. Apalagi di Internet. Jadinya apa-apa harus argumentatif. Bukan begitu? Apa masih ada ya perempuan yang mau pura-pura tersipu malu digombalin: ‘Bicaralah Nona, jangan membisu”?

Kawan saya pernah make lagu ini buat nembak cewek waktu sekolah dulu. Haha. Dia enak sekolahnya di SMA. Lah, saya di STM. Tidak gaul pula. Yah jadinya begitu. Ngiri juga. Duh, masa remaja saya kurang bahagia memang. Hidup kayak di Palestina. Selalu takut disergap tentara Israel, yakni anak STM PGRI, atau Empat CKL. Saya sekolah di STM Negeri Tangerang, atau dikenal sebagai STM 80. Waktu itu masih musim tawuran. Haha, tapi saya jadi ingat dulu setiap pelajaran olah raga kita sekelas bakal ngecengin anak-anak SMKK, yang semuanya di lantai empat. Gedung sekolah kita bersebelahan. Dan percaya atau tidak, cewel-cewek SMKK itu jauh lebih agresif. “Hi, cowooook! Hi, cowooook! Godain kita dong!” Sepertinya mereka tidak suka The Beatles, bung. (Note: SMKK itu adalah sekolah menengah kesejahteraan keluarga. Di sekolah ini, kebalikan dari STM, mayoritas perempuan. Kalo ada lelakinya, gayanya sedikit seperti banci. Kebalikan dari cewek di STM, yang tomboy dan tukang palak — meski tidak semuanya sih)

Nah ini lagu saya dengar waktu masih kecil sekali. Yang saya ingat malah kenangan pergi ke rumah kakek buat Lebaran, Atau main gundu sama teman-teman sepulang sekolah. Waktu SMP saya terpesona bener sama lagu ini. Maklum puber.  Pretty girls were different when you were 13, eh? Tapi sayang saya tidak jago main gitar. Cuma bisa lagunya Cobain yang judulnya ‘About A Girl’. Dan Ibu saya sebal kalau saya setel Cobain. “Lagu apaan sih, Leee?”

Sheila on 7 – Jadikan Aku Pacarmu

Dian Sastro saudara-saudara! Baru lulus SMA mungkin. Masih lugu. Masih segar! Anyway, Sheila terkenal waktu saya baru lulus STM. Saya udah tidak ABG lagi. Dan kuliahnya di IAIN. Jadi sangat tidak cocok juga lah memainkan lagu Sheila yang ini. Meskipun saya suka. Ada lagi satu lagu Sheila yang saya demen: ‘Berai’. Hahaha…guilty pleasure eh dengerin lagu ini. Soale waktu itu saya sudah mulai sok intelektual gitu. Sudah tidak ngulik lagu Extreme lagi.

Nuno Bettencourt – Crave

Setelah Extreme bubar, Nuno bikin beberapa proyek. Salah satunya adalah Schizophonic. Dan tanpa disangka-sangka, Nuno jadi Kurt Cobain!!! Ya, dulu saya sempat ngeledek anak-anak Grunge yang lebih mementingkan style ketimbang skill. Nuno tentu pemain gitar yang 1,000 kali lebih jago dari Cobain. Tetapi ekspresi seni Cobain jauh lebih jujur ketimbang lagu-lagu Nuno yang terlalu restrained semacam Stop the World. Nah, dalam album solo pertamanya, Nuno tobat. Ternyata Cobain musisi besar. Kalo tidak salah Dave Grohl ikut membantu pembuatan album solonya Nuno itu. Ini lagu ‘Crave’. Saya waktu STM (atau kuliah yah) selalu membayangkan bisa memainkan lagu ini untuk seseorang. Tapi mengingat kawan-kawan saya dulu kebanyakan jilbaban, dan mengingat liriknya serta nuansa lagunya yang obsesif, kayaknya tidak bakalan ada yang tersipu, malah saya bisa-bisa digampar.

Jadi, kalau Anda listnya apa saja? Ada kenangan khusus? Dan apakah Ada lagu yang lebih terus terang dari lagu-lagu yang saya jejer di atas? Tapi jangan yang desperate dan overconfidence juga.

NB: ‘Nembak’ is one of many weird Indonesian expressions which means ‘to express your feeling’ or to say ‘I like you’ to a girl or a boy. It literally means ‘to shoot’. Why and how we come up with this word? Don’t ask me.

It’s finally time!!! Tonight are the American Music Awards at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, where many world known artists (including Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Rihanna, Shakira, Eminem) are going to perform, while others are going to show the music fans around the earth just how GLAM they can get For Your Entertainment!

As we’ve already mentioned in a previous post here at ASP, Monte Pittman will rock with his white Gibson Flying V (w/Bill Lawrence pickups) on the side of Adam Lambert and Nicki Richards will be singing backup for Whitney Houston!

And there’s more to it! Kevin Antunes and Brian Frasier-Moore who also were in Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour, will perform with Timbaland! Behind the scenes hero- Steve Borisenko, who was Madonna’s guitar tech in the S&S Tour, is now Nuno Bettencourt’s tech who plays with Rihanna tonight!

A cantora Rihanna que lançará no dia 23/11 o seu novo álbum “Rated R”, e sairá em turnê para divulgá-lo em 2010, contará com um reforço de peso para compor a banda que irá acompanhar a cantora durante os shows. Trata-se de Nuno Bettencourt, guitarrista da banda Extreme…(Veja a matéria completa)

Hace unas semanas empezó la quinta temporada de How I Met Your Mother, y la verdad es que el regreso ha superado mis espectativas. Llevan varios capítulos cojonudos, pero es que el de hace unos días lo han bordado con la incorporación sorpresa de Nuno Bettencourt.

Alguno se preguntará que cómo es posible, si en el capítulo no sale. ¡JA! Pues es porque esta parte sale en la página web que creó Marshall. Además que es él quien canta con el guitarrista de Extreme en un estilo muy similar al de la clásica ‘More than words’.

No es la primera vez que crean páginas cuando hablan de ellas en algún capítulo, pero a mi modo de ver es la vez que más se lo han currado

Nuno Bettencourt (of rock band Extreme) is starring in a music video with Jason Segel for the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Known for their love affair with “songs that are awesome,” HIMYM have re-created the famous Extreme video “More Than Words.” Other cast members including Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and Josh Radnor will also appear in the video.

Great debut that finds the band sounding a little bit like Van Halen sometimes (Nuno on “Teacher’s Pet” and “Play With Me”), though songs like “Mutha (Don’t Wanna Go To School Today)” and “Rock A Bye Bye” are pure Extreme classics.

The album cover is pretty striking, because if you didn’t know who Extreme was, you’d think they were just another hair metal band — but they’re actually far from that.

The album has two truly outstanding tracks for me – “Rock A Bye Bye”, which is the usual beautiful Extreme ballad and then “Play With Me” which I think it one of the greatest hard rock songs to come out of the ’80s and it immediately put Nuno Bettencourt on the map as a guitar hero (in fact, the song has been included in the Guitar Hero video game series!).

Besides Nuno’s guitar work, Gary Cherone is another bright spot. He’s always brought loads of personality to Extreme and it all started here (and of course, the backing vocals in general are great as well).

This one can be found new ‘n’ cheap and it’s definitely worth the investment.

Nuno Bettencourt, Portuguese rock musician

A revista Time fez recentemente uma lista com os 10 melhores guitarristas de todos os tempos. A lista é a seguinte:

08. Les Paul
09. Yngwie Malmsteen
10. Prince

Estas coisas das listas dos melhores de sempre, têm sempre muito que se lhe diga. Eu tenho a certeza absoluta que o critério principal foi o gosto pessoal de quem fez a lista. Todos os rankings de guitarristas que vi até agora, têm o Jimi Hendrix no topo. E sempre será. Mas analisando as coisas friamente, ele é o melhor guitarrista de sempre? Eu nem me atrevo a contestar isto, é um lugar-comum. Se ele merece? Provavelmente sim, pôs a guitarra na ribalta e isso é muito. Aquilo que mais aprecio no Jimi hendrix são duas coisas que me faltam: um sentido rítmico apuradíssimo e a forma como misturava ritmos e melodia, criando assim uma harmonia extraordinária, poucos conseguem criar tanta riqueza musical apenas com uma voz e guitarra. Em baixo estão dois exemplos daquilo que acabo de dizer. O segundo “Little Wing” é das minhas músicas preferidas, é de um bom gosto incrível e tem um solo que derrama feeling, como é de costume no Jimi Hendrix.

Muito disto passa pelo problema em homenagear pessoas vivas, ou que ainda estão a construir a lenda, tais como Steve Vai e Joe Satriani. Estes dois são absolutamente incontornáveis. Não se pode fazer uma lista dos melhores de sempre sem os incluírem. A questão passa muito pelo critério, que além do goisto pessoal, é a influência noutros músicos. Certamente o Hendrix é a maior referência nesse domínio. O próprio Satriani o admite e o elege como o melhor. Mas então próprio Satriani não é uma influência? Absolutamente. Nem se questiona. A maior da minha geração, e essa quando fizer uma lista dos melhores guitarristas, vai incluir esse nome de certeza. Eu até uso uma guitarra do modelo dele, palhetas da mesma marca, cordas, etc. Não imito o som porque não tenho ouvido, talento e material para isso.

E quanto ao Steve Vai, é difícil ser influencia porque ninguém consegue tocar como ele. O Satriani é mais alcançável, não digo tecnicamente porque isso é outro campeonato, mas as harmonias, o uso de frases com muitos pull-off’s e hammer-on’s, o uso modo lidío que também é muito usado pelo Steve Vai, o qual confere um sabor exótico nas músicas, coisas que podem ser absorvidas, menos mirabolantes, o Satch distingue-se muito pela dimensão em termos de composição que consegue dar à guitarra. Pois é, este senhor Satriani fundiu este exotismo com o rock,juntando aquele som único e uma técnica magistral (O Hendrix não tinha tanta, lamento, mas é mesmo assim) criou um estilo que influenciou muita e muita gente. Está para os guitarristas da actualidade como o Hendrix para os hippies, mas com uma grande diferença. O Jimi Hendrix estava associado a um movimento de libertação cultural, uma mensagem de liberdade e paz numa altura conturbada. Isso é fundamental para a criação de um ídolo, uma referência, não critico isso, a música serve para isso e o Hendrix transmitia essa cultura a cada nota que atacava.

Este artigo fala de uma coisa muito importante. A injustiça de compara guitarristas de estilos muito diferentes, blues, flamenco, heavy, jazz, etc. São campeonatos diferentes, o Paco de Lucia certamente tem lugar nesta lista. Sou grande adepto do Slash, mas um segundo lugar parece-me esticar um bocado a corda. Rolling Stone também elaborou uma lista do género onde classificou o Kurt Cobain como o 12º melhor guitarrista de sempre. Eu sem exagero, consigo pensar em 50 guitarristas melhor que ele. Mas uma coisa eu não posso negar, se calhar se forem contabilizadas as tentativas de aprendizes de guitarra em tentar tocar o riff inicial da “Come Has You Are”, e comparando com as tentativas em tocar os riffs daqueles 50 em que estou a pensar, provavelmente o Kurt Cobain ganha por “quinjajero”. É uma geração inteira com guitarras cheias de autocolantes a ouvir o “MTV Unplugged in New York” e a passar um charro à gaja que gostam. No fim, são essas coisas que contam. Que se lixe o Satriani…

Na lista da Time, consta um nome que diz muito, Yngwie Malmsteen. Eu não o colocaria no top ten, porque foi alguém que se perdeu no tempo, a qualidade da música foi-se perdendo gradualmente e é um tipo cheio de “manias”. Mas uma coisa é certa, o primeiro álbum dele, Rising Force, continua a ser dos melhores de sempre do heavy neo-clássico. Uma mistura espectacular entre heavy-metal e o barroco, dois estilos que assentam como uma luva um no outro. Porquê? Virtuosismo. Essa é a qualidade principal que os executantes do dois estilos devem possuir. Muitos outros guitarristas fizeram o mesmo, Rhandy Roads (Ozzy Osbourne), Jason Becker, Marty Friedman (Megadeth), Kiko Loureiro (Angra), Ritchie Blackmore (Rainbow & Deep Purple), Tony Macalpine, Michael Angelo Batio.

Este guitarrista sofre de uma doença degenerativa rara que o deixou impossibilitado de tocar, ainda compõe com o auxilio de um computador. Esta é a sua virtuosíssima versão do 5º Capricho de Paganini.

Mas existe sempre uma coisa que impressiona os leigos da guitarra, o “show off”. E o maior especialista nessa matéria é o Michael Angelo. Tem uma técnica e habilidade impressionantes, toca com guitarras de dois braços ao mesmo tempo e faz assim umas trocas de mãos alucinantes e coisas do género. Mas é apenas circo, pois a música é completamente desprovida de feeling.

Eu não discordo que o Prince e o Keith Richards constem da lista, mas consigo pensar em melhores guitarristas, mas o Prince é muito bom e a maioria das pessoas desconhecem esse facto. A presença de Les Paul (falecido recentemente) também compreendo, inventou o modelo Les Paul, absolutamente famoso em todo o mundo guitarrístico, além de ser ele próprio um bom guitarrista. O Chuck Berry é considerado o criador do rock & roll. O Jonh Lennon disse que se houvesse outro nome para o rock & roll seria Chuck Berry. Aqueles riffs de guitarra são reconhecíveis de imediato e a presença em palco com os movimentos de pernas que deram origem à postura rock dos guitarristas. Fica aqui o vìdeo da sua famosíssima “Johnny B. Goode”.

E este é um dos seus famosos “moves”, o “duckwalk”, mais tarde imitado pelo Angus Young dos ACDC.

Há guitarristas que se destacam pela elegância da sua musica. Exemplos disso são o Eric Jonhson e o Steve Morse. O Eric tem dos melhores sons de guitarra que já ouvi e um técnica extremamente subtil. Um primeiro convidado dos G3, um grupo de 3 guitarristas onde 2 são o Satriani e o Vai e outro é um convidado. Uma cimeira dos 3 grandes. Fica a qui uma das suas preciosidades, “Manhattan”.

O Steve Morse é outro exemplo de elegância, mais ainda, de versatilidade. Uma çao de bom gosto e de domínio técnico de todas as técnicas de guitarra. Fica aqui um vídeo de um solo maravilhoso, feito nos Deep Purple, pois ele é o guitarrista dessa banda, em detrimento do Malmsteen, é bem melhor do que ele.

Os guitarristas de blues Peter green, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Albert King, Albert Collins, etc. Não consigo nomea-los todos, são muitos e muito bons. Estes influenciaram outros guitarristas de todos os estilos. No metal não há muito guitarristas, dos bons, que não tenham influências destes artistas e utilizam escalas de blues nos seus solos.

Na fusão proliferam geniais músicos. Fusão é um estilo que mistura jazz com outros estilos diferentes, rock, blues, e frequentemente música do mundo. Da parte dos guitarristas há muito bons exemplos como Pat Metheney, Al di Meola, Frank Gambale, etc. Já tive oportunidade de ver Meola ao vivo e tenho um cd autografado, é genial, mistura flamenco e latino com outras. O Gambale é um guitarrista que tem muitos livros publicados e é fenemonal na ´tecnica de sweep picking, ou seja, varrer as cordas com a palheta e fazer aperggios.

Este vídeo é de uma música do Meola, “Mediterranean Sundance”, ele toca com o Paco de Lucia e faz parte de um disco obrigatório para qualquer guitarrista. O “Friday Night in San Francisco”.

Este é o Frank Gambale, num vídeo a mostrar como se fazem arpeggios, atençaõ também ao baixista, Jeff Berlin.

Bem, eu podia continuar a falar de guitarristas, mas vou abreviar e passar a um estilo do qual sou profundo admirador, o Heavy-Metal. Aqui abundam grandes músicos. A dupla de guitarristas dos Iron Maiden é disso exemplo. O Dave Murray e o Adrian Smith definem o que é o metal. Nem vou entrar em detalhes, eles têm tudo, os om, a personalidade, a humidade e a técnica…Fica aqui uma das minhas preferidas e muito underrated, “Stranger in a Strange Land”.

Eles são tantos, que até parece mal falar deles só de passagem, já referi alguns, mas o Angus Young dos ACDC tem de merecer um reparo especial, são muitos riffs famosos e muito bom gosto. O Alex Skolnick dos Testament, um dos melhores guitarristas do thrash e a aluno do Satriani,um dos meus preferidos. O Dimebag Darrel dos Pantera, que reinventou o metal, o Criss Oliva dos Savatage, e por aí fora. Não me lembro de mais, mas são muitos. Ah, e não me posso esquecer do Brian May, apesar de não ser metal, Queen tem um guitarrista com um estilo único que tocava com uma moeda, que tinha um som que muitos tentaram imitar sem sucesso.

Vou finalizar esta extensa enumeração de guitarristas com um dos que mais me tocou, o Jonh Petrucci dos Dream Theater. Técnica e feeling desta maneira é uma coisa única. Um marco na história do metal. Nem vale a pena dizer mais nada é único. E não aparece na patética lista da Rolling Stone dos melhores 100 guitarristas do mundo, é mesmo isso, conseguíram fazer um alista sem o incluir, nem a ele nem ao Satriani…

O que me mete mais nojo nisto tudo, é o facto do Satriani ser conhecido pela história com os palermas do Coldplay. Experimentem escrever satriani no g0ogle e vejam qual é a palavra que aparece a seguir. Em relação à suposta imitação desses gajos, eu até acho que fazem coisas interessantes, não ouço, se é para ouvir pop, ouço U2 que é muitíssimo melhor. Mas o pessoal fica todo contente com aquela música “Viva la Vida” que supostamente é uma cópia da “If I Could Fly”. Se é ou não, não sei, mas uma coisa é certa, nem é do melhor de Satriani, longe disso.

ps: Faltam aqui imensos nomes (Santana…:D), eu também não me atreveria a fazer uma lista dos 100 melhores, simplesmente uma dos meus 100 preferidos, e não passam disso estas listas, sejam elas sobre guitarristas, álbuns ou bandas. E já agora, estou aberto a críticas, com sempre.

Bem, lembrei-me agora de alguns nomes que não de forma alguma ser esquecidos, Santana, Eddie Van Halen e Nuno Bettencourt.

Já agora algumas uma curiosidades em relação a este video. O pormenor do Santana a desviar a guitarra quando pressente o feedback do amplificador (1:17) dá um ar caótico ao concerto. Genial, quando vejo este concerto e outros em woodstock, dá-me a impressão que foi simplesmente um grupo de pessoas que se juntou para tocar música “Hey, queres vir tocar uns acordes? Não tenho grande equipamento, mas vai estar lá um pessoal fixe e tal, Hendrix, Santana, The Who, Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker.” O baterista que toca com o Santana, Mickaël Shrieve, foi o músico mais novo que tocou nesse festival, e destacou-se pelo solo que faz nesta música. Como é que me esqueci do Van Halen?! Acho que poucos guitarristas popularizaram uma técnica como o Van Halen com o tapping. É uma técnica onde se utiliza a mão que segura a palheta para “martelar” directamente na corda na casa pretendida. Dá um efeito espectacular, e é a foram mais fácil de fazer coisas rápidas. Mas não é só por isso que ele se destaca, tem um sentido rítmico excelente, e os acompanhamentos dele são de um bom gosto tremendo. E sempre cheio de pinch harmonics lá pelo meio, assim grosseiramente, são os “gritos” que se ouvem a sair da guitarra. Algo que é usado e abusado no heavy-metal, Zack Wilde, Glen Tipton (Judas Priest), são bons exemplos.

Também me olvidé de falar dos guitarristas portugueses. E começo já pelo açoriano Nuno Bettencourt, imigrou para os EUA e foi considerado o herdeiro do Van Halen em termos estilísticos. Aquilo que falei do Van Halen em termos técnicos aplica-se ao Nuno, mas o português envereda um pouco mais pelo funk. Eu só não percebo é porque é que este tipo é tão pouco conhecido em Portugal, guitarrista dos Extreme, os autores da famosíssima “More Than Words”. Fica aqui um grande solo, lindo mesmo, pleno de técnica e sentimento, e eu não me canso de frisar o quanto estas duas características são importantes para um guitarrista.

Mas há outros, o Gonçalo Pereira, cheio de técnica e com um estilo muito próprio, também desconhecido em Portugal. Mas posso dar mais exemplos, Pedro Jóia; Joel Xavier, Paulo Barros. Todos eles muito bons. Este último é o guitarrista dos Tarântula, uma banda de Heavy-Metal portuguesa.

Perry Farrell is arguably one of the hardest working men in alt-rock.  Since the late 80s he’s just been a powerhouse, and I liked Jane’s Addiction and Porno for Pyros, but somehow I didn’t know about Satellite Party.

Nuno Bettencourt of the 80s band Extreme. (You know, the “More than Words” guys).  First off, how did these guys get together?  That’s like Bridget Jones hanging out with Indiana Jones.  Just completely different universes.  There should be no overlap.

Anyway, their first show was in 2005 and featured Perry, Nuno, and Tony Kanal from No Doubt.  The band is apparently very theatrical and is based on an imaginary version of Perry’s relationship with his wife, who was once one of his backup dancers.  They released an album in 2007 that featured guest performances by Flea and John Frusciante of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peter Hook of Joy Division/New Order, and Fergie of Black Eyed Peas.

Yeah.  I’ll give you a moment to digest that.

Here’s a video they released called “Wish Upon a Dog Star”, and it reminds me of the movie “The Fountain”, which I was not a fan of.  Watch it and see what you think.

Nuno left the band shortly after this video was made, saying he was uncomfortable with the direction the band was taking.  Since the band’s  lineup changes so frequently, it’s kinda just regarded as his solo project now, and they still do shows here and there.  Regardless of the music, I kinda love him and his wife Etta Lau Farrell.  Why don’t they have a reality show?  Can we get them one please?

O termo one-hit nasceu de artistas conhecidos por apenas uma de suas músicas. Claro que as vezes, são mais de uma (duas ou três por exemplo) mas ainda assim, a idéia persiste. As vezes, não temos tempo nem vontade de ir atrás de algo mais para tentar conhecer aquele trabalho melhor.

Nessa primeira edição, uma banda especial. Conhecida não só por quem gosta de rock, devido esta balada bem produzida. A banda Extreme, mundialmente conhecida pelo hit More Than Words se destaca pela técnica e ótima produção de seus discos. Vamos primeiro ouvir a dita cuja, e depois acompanhar uma pequena seleção de outras músicas, mostrando do que é feita sua música.

The State Of Things At Boogie Street…by Freddy Kowalo.

Hello My Friends!!!! Here we are at the end of another great year at Boogie Street Guitars. Over the past year, Eric has done his best to bring us all the superior guitars that you can only find here at Boogie Street. Well, it is my pleasure to give a review of some of the guitars we still have in stock, and a few that Eric may have forgotten we have.

Let me start with the Washburn Import Paul Stanley Preacher guitars in White. These guitars are great sounding and great playing guitars. They are exclusive BOOGIE STREET imports that play and sound like an American made guitar. These guitars have the Blessing of Paul Stanley, Himself. That should speak volumes about these fine guitars. We have a few, About 10 or so, maybe a little less out of the original 50 we ordered. The black ones have completely sold out. Or maybe just One or Two left… email eric to see.   Again:  There may be a few private stock ones left in black, but I would have to check on that. I think Eric may have kept one for himself that is still on the shelf…lol.

I have just completed setting up every BSG “The Cross” guitar. This guitar is Boogie Streets tribute to Dimebag Darrell Abbott’s Southern Cross guitars. The USA Southern Cross Guitars are completely sold out. As you may know, the entire Run of 100 guitars was never completed. These USA guitars are highly collectable. I have seen them go as high as $5,000 dollars on E-Bay. Due to the high demand for this unfinished Series, Boogie Street commissioned 100 Import “The Cross” guitars, an import model of the Southern Cross that rivals its USA made counter part at a much lower price. These guitars boast USA Seymoure Duncan pickups, a DIMEBUCKER in the bridge and a ‘59 in the neck. Each has Black Grover tuning machines and Washburn’s licensed Floyd Rose tremolo systems. Each guitar is numbered, so call Eric if you are interested to see if your favorite number is available. This is definitely a quality import guitar at a fraction of the price of the original USA model.

We also have a few ET’s left. Eric will be happy to hear that in my search for more guitars to set up, I uncovered a few import ET’s, a USA in red and a few of the original USA NO LOGO ET’s with ET only on the fret board. The No logo ET’s have Exceptional flame tops on them. They are fast and fantastic players. These guitars were hidden away…lol… more like misplaced by me while I was stocking the boxes on the new shelves that were installed by Joey M last year.

We have several USA Nuno Designs. Some of these guitars are exclusive to Boogie Street. Again these guitars are top of the line. We have a few of the all white and a few of the all black. They are great. We also have A few and extremely RARE, surely to become a collectors piece PADUKE NUNOs. We have both the oil finish and the Gloss finished body. These guitars are RIPPING!!! Sustain and tone for days. I am not just saying that… trust me… I am forever on the quest for great tone… These guitars are a complement to any amp.

We still have a few BSG designed Washburn INSTIGATORS and Hollow Bodies on the shelf. These guitars sold well, but for some reason, we kept a few back.

There may also be some miscellaneous Idols lurking around along with a Fallen Idol or 2. I was breezing over the boxes and thought I saw the number codes. I will have to take a closer inspection when I get back there next week. We also have a number of acoustics on the shelf.

This brings me to the guitars that Boogie Street is famous for: Custom runs of the highest quality USA model Guitars. I have already spoken of the PADUKE NUNOS and the Limited Run of No LOGO ETs in stock. Now I would like to tell you of the USA WASHBURN PAUL STANLEY models we have in stock. Washburn and Paul and Eric have made great strides in producing a guitar that would rival any guitar out there, including the Crown Jewel of flame top guitars, the Gibson Les Paul Standard.

We have several BEAUTIFUL USA Paul Stanley Preachers with exceptional flamed tops. We also have a few of our gloss and oil coated Paduk preachers left. These guitars are exclusive only to Boogie Street. The wood grain on these guitars is unique, also. The tone is beyond incredible. These guitars are sure to become collector’s items and will increase in value.

As of this writing, I have begun setups on the New BSG designed PS5 Preacher. This guitar features an oil finish, Tone Pros, Grover hardware and Seymoure Duncan JB (bridge) and Pearly Gates (neck) pickups. The Tone on this guitar is MASSIVE! Through my little Johnson Combo amp it sounded killer, through Eric’s Marshall, It sounds killer!!! These guitars are limited to a run of 8. They will go fast. I have set up the first 2 and I am impressed at the quality of this USA made guitar for under $2000.

In the ongoing attempt to bring our customers the best quality guitars available, Eric has expanded the horizons of Boogie Street Guitars. At the end of 2007 Eric started selling guitars from world famous luthier, BERNIE RICO, JR.

Bernie has an incredible vision when it comes to the quality and design of guitar making. His attention to detail is second to none. I am a stickler for detail… Bernie meets MY standards every time. His finishes are virtually flawless. The small details are addresses on every guitar. We are proud to offer a variety of USA RICOs. Each guitar is handmade to perfection. We have a few Divas, Jeckylls, Alais guitars and a bass.

Bernie’s answer to imports is the Hybrid. The bodies may be assembled overseas to Bernie’s strict guidelines, but each one is finished in Bernie’s shop and sent out. We have both the black and the white V’s. These are the ultimate shred guitars. They feel and play like their USA counterparts, but at a fraction of the price. I am planning on buying a set of these for myself. You gotta have one in Black and White…

There is no such thing as ever owning too many guitars. Each one is a little different than another. Boogie Street offers the finest variety of guitars anywhere. That is what Eric set out to do and he has accomplished that goal and then some. We have a guitar for every kind of player, for every style of music, to fit any budget. Keep an eye on the new E-Store, and remember, we have more than what you see listed on there. Give Eric a call or better yet shoot him off an e-mail to see if there is something that may suit you before we list it. Great guitars do not last too long around here. I expect the new ones that I have just found to fly out of the shop being the holiday season.

Curiosando tra i blog oggi ho appreso con mia grande meraviglia che un paio di giorni fa è uscito il nuovo album dei Guns N’Roses, Chinese Democracy, e surfando di qua e di la, mi sono imbattuta in qualche immagine d’epoca di uno dei miei piu’ grandi amori di gioventù (sottolineo immagini d’epoca, perchè quelle attuali sono, come dire, inguardabili…). Ho deciso quindi di rimuginare un po’ su quelle che sono state le mie passioni mediatiche dall’infanzia ad oggi…

Alla tenera età di 9-10 anni ero una brava scolaretta assennata, ma evidentemente già attratta dai nasi “importanti” (ora li ho abbandonati, forse, dopo averne avuta una luuuuunga serie…), innamoratissima di lui:

Ricordo che in casa avevamo una sola radio che leggeva le cassette, e ne avevo un paio di Baglioni (rigorosamente registrate, mai originali) che ascoltavo fino alla nausea. Ancora oggi ricordo a memoria tutte le sue canzoni, quelle incise fino al 1988 naturalmente… Ricordo anche che costringevo mia madre a comprarmi qualunque giornale, rivista, quotidiano riportasse anche solo una minuscola fotografia dove c’era lui.

Subito dopo, finite le elementari ed iniziate le scuole medie, i miei gusti in fatto di uomini hanno iniziato a prendere la forma che poi è rimasta; non sono mai stata una di quelle adolescenti fissate per i gruppi più famosi del momento, nè tantomeno mi sono mai piaciuti i belloni della situazione, sono sempre rimasta un po’ nella nicchia; così mentre amiche e compagne sbavavano per i Duran Duran e Vasco Rossi, per Nick Kamen e Miguel Bose, per me è stata la volta di

Joy Tempest (che cazzo di nome), cantante degli Europe, gruppetto scandinavo di strani ceffi cotonati e abbastanza glam che ha spopolato con The Final Countodown e poi chissà che fine ha fatto. Ricordo che ascoltavo sempre Carrie, ballad struggente (almeno cosi’ mi sembrava allora). Un album, uno solo, poi boh.

In terza media iniziò una delle mie più grandi fissazioni, che mi avrebbe accompagnato per diversi anni prima di abbandonarmi. Un paio di compagni di classe appassionati di musica heavy metal, mi fecero ascoltare il Black Album dei Metallica, e devo dire che mi intrigò abbastanza, così iniziai a spulciare un po’ tra i gruppi hard-heavy-rock-blues dell’epoca e scelsi quello che divenne la mia ragione di vita per almeno 2 anni. Il leader era un pezzo di stragnocco da 10 e lode, lui:

E che je voi di’ a uno così? Se c’hai 13 anni e l’ormone impazzito poi, c’hai poco da fa… Di Axl, oltre alla voce graffiante e terribilmente sexy, mi piaceva da morire il contrasto tra il viso d’angelo e l’immagine maledetta di uomo violento e prepotente, arrogante e capriccioso come una diva di secondo ordine ma bello come un dio. Ricordo i pianti che mi facevo davanti ai videoclip dei Guns N’Roses che all’epoca venivano passati da VideoMusic prima e Magic Italia poi (MTV non esisteva ancora!!!), ricordo i solchi che ho fatto sul nastro della videocassetta del loro concerto a Tokyo, e le litigate con mia madre che non voleva che tenessi appesi in camera tutti quei poster di quei “5 drogati alcolizzati”.

Dopo una breve parentesi liceal-confusionale che è passata attraverso i Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Sepultura, Scorpions, Aerosmith, Extreme (degno di nota fu Nuno Bettencourt, chitarrista portoghese proprio degli Extreme, figo da niente  pure questo)…

La costante di tutti questi strani ometti cosi’ diversi tra loro, è solo una, il capello lungo. Eh si, sono sempre stata affascinata dall’uomo capellone, tanto che me ne sono trovata uno che addirittura se li piastra… Mi sono anche chiesta se in fondo questa passione per il capello lungo non sia sintomatica di una certa tendenza lesbo, ma vabbè, torniamo al punto. Siamo dunque arrivati a quello che forse è stato, è e sarà il mio più grande amore musicale di tutti i tempi, colui per il quale ho speso tanti, ma tanti soldi tra cd originali, concerti, trasferte, videocassette, cinema, dvd, libri, magliette e chi più ne ha più ne metta, siore e siori. Colui il quale mi provocava e mi provoca tuttora terribili ed irrefrenabili istinti sessuali bestialmente incomprensibili da una mente razionale, colui al quale basta aprire bocca e dire “A” per scatenarmi una reazione simile ad un orgasmo multiplo che mai nessun uomo potrebbe riuscire ad eguagliare nemmeno con una prestazione degna di Rocco. Colui che mi ha fatto imparare a memoria la sceneggiatura completa di Radiofreccia e mi ha fatto prendere secchiate e secchiate di pioggia allo stadio in pieno luglio. Colui che è stato capace di farmi andare a Milano, Roma e Sassari nel giro di un mese per assistere a 3 concerti identici. Colui che tormenta i miei sogni erotici e non solo da 12 anni ormai, da quel lontano 1996 quando a 18 anni il mio grande amore psicotico con disturbi schizofrenici bipolari (lo amavo proprio per questo, sa?) mi fece ascoltare per tutta l’estate “Buon compleanno Elvis” a ripetizione (era l’unica cassetta che aveva in macchina, e considerando che stavamo quasi h24 insieme…). Da allora, nonostante mi renda conto che sia uno sporco interista interessato ormai piu’ al successo che al resto, nonostante mi renda conto che i suoi testi e le sue canzoni non siano nemmeno paragonabili a capolavori come quelli di De Andre’ o Guccini (i miei cantautori preferiti), non posso fare a meno di adorarlo. Che ce posso fa, è troppo piu’ forte di me.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, ecco. Mo si che sto meglio!

Extreme

Ada info yang menarik banget saat gue sarapan pagi sambil baca berita2 di salah satu portal berita. Yaitu berita tentang akan Extreme akan melakukan konser di Indonesia. Extreme? Yeap… They’re back. Gue bener2 ngga nyangka, mungkin karena dulu mereka sempet bubar dan ngga kedengeran lagi kabarnya sampe sekarang. Dan ternyata setelah sekian lama menghilang, Ternyata mereka reuni lagi… Bahkan mereka sudah mengeluarkan album baru di tahun 2008 ini…

Extreme bisa dimasukkan ke dalam band yang besar pada zamannya, yaitu era akhir 80-an dan awal 90-an. Tentunya kita semua masih inget sama lagu balad akustik mereka, ‘More That Words‘ donk… Secara pribadi, itu adalah lagu rock balad terbaik yang pernah ada… Hampir semua album kompilasi rock balad memasukkan lagu itu ke dalamnya… Inget banget pas masa2 smp semua cowo2 belajar gitar pake lagu itu, termasuk gue… Dan sampe sekarang gue masih belom lancar… Hehehe….

Setelah gue cari2 info, ternyata mereka sudah reuni sejak tahun 2004… Gue lumayan ketinggalan info nih. Dan tahun 2008 ini mereka sudah mengeluarkan album ‘Sausades De Rock‘. Makin ketinggalan info nih… Terakhir kabar yang gue denger sang Vokalis, Gary Cherone, bergabung sama band rock legendaris Van Halen. Namun ngga lama keluar lagi… Si gitaris, Nuno Bettencourt, terakhir gue denger dia bikin album solo Schizophonic. Dan personil yang laen? Entahlah… Yang pasti formasi terakhir mereka hanya dihuni oleh tiga orang personil asli. Nama terakhir adalah Pat Badger. Pergantian terjadi di posisi drummer yang sekarang diisi oleh Kevin Figueiredo.

Wah ngga sabar buat ngedengerin lagu2 di album terbaru mereka. Gue penasaran apakah di album tersebut kita masih bisa nikmatin lagu2 seperti ‘Hole Hearted‘, ‘Hip Today‘, ‘Cynical‘, dan tentunya ‘More Than Words‘… Yah mudah2an bisa cepet gue dapetin albumnya, dan begitu gue dapet, pasti gue review di sini kok. Hehehehe… Kalo tentang konsernya sendiri, gue belom ada rencana untuk nonton sih… Tapi liat ntar deh. Kalo ada rejeki, ada yang mau bayarin, gue nonton.. Hehehe… :p
