Spied: production-bodied Acura NSX on the Nürburging

Clearly, Germany’s Nürburgring race track has been very busy lately, from a Ford Mustang SVT prototype spy, to a Tesla Model S lap, to today’s addition: spy shots of the upcoming Acura NSX supercar, this time with a production-ready body!

These spy shots show a car still fully covered in camouflage, but important production-ready details are appearing, such as actual head- and taillights, as well as grille covers. This leads our spy photographers to believe that this could be a production version of the NSX.

The upcoming NSX will not just be a regular supercar, but a hybrid supercar. Making use of Acura’s Sport-Hybrid SH-AWD system, a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter VTEC V6 engine will be coupled to a trio of electric motors – one mounted with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and two mounted at the front wheels. The gas engine and first electric motor will power the rear wheels; the other two motors will provide some extra oomph by sending power to the front wheels.

The majority of the details are still unrevealed, but Honda projects that the engine-electric motor combination will produce around 500 horsepower. Also, Honda’s CEO is certain that it will represent the future of performance under the Acura name, delivering exciting driving dynamics, while also succeeding to over-comply with emissions and economy standards.

Stay tuned to our blog for more details as the NSX gets closer to rolling off the production line in Ohio, and hitting the market sometime in 2015, likely as a 2016 model.
