Ho, hum,

Hahaha, what’s up with me lately, trying to rhyme little poem-songs? xD

I was being honest though, when I think of Humpty Dumpty (btw, what kind of a name is Hump-ty?!), I can’t help but shudder at the thought of how he was trying to stand on all those steps to reach the sun, and then if I remember correct he got burned by the sun?? (I don’t remember well) and he fell. That look on his face was traumatizing, it was! As a young girl I was in horror. O_O

But, it seems I am a little bit of a mazochist I am considering of searching the video on Youtube, to see if it exists and if it does to see if it was really so scary as I thought then. Or I outgrew it. But no, it doesn’t mean I am a mazochist does it?! It means that I want to overcome my childhood traumas! *victory sign*

Greedy Humpty Dumpty

In the beginning I couldn’t even stand to watch it. It brought back memories, I suddenly remembered.

But later on I was able to see a bit more, bits and pieces. =) And thus I saw the scene that had stayed with me, the look on Humpty’s face when he cracked the sun.I don’t know why it had bothered me so much as a child, but maybe it was the music, the colors, the feeling of  it, the look on his face… The look on his face is what had freaked me out then, I remember only that. Well yes he deserved it, that arrogant little bastard, but still his yells of horror were freaky. That animation was simply creepy to me. Subjectively, I agree.

What cartoons left you any sour memories as a child? Why do you think they gave you those feelings?

[I was writing this last night, but I will publish it today. So I still haven't missed a day of writing! ]

Well… it’s funny how this whole thing emerged just from starting a little poem/song with “Ho, hum” Things tend to take interesting twists.

I made these illustrations as a present to the little baby inside my cousins tummy. Its top secret if the baby is a he or a she…but nursery rhymes are for everyone, so problem solved! Now all i have to do is be patient until November 15th!

I belatedly realized that there were a few categories that had been left out in the first post on Mallu Christian names…

The list continueth:

1.  Phonetically translated from shortened English names  (Elizabeth = Lizzy or Jessica = Jessie or Rosemary = Rosy) but then subsequently miss-spelled, e.g. Lissy or Licy (fortunately not Lousy!)  I once came across a Wincy – kept me wondering if a miss-spelled Eensy weensy spider nursery rhyme was responsible!   The reason is that the letter ‘z’ does not exist in Malayalam – the closest equivalents are ’s’ and ‘c’!

Male Mallus are not spared.  I once met a ‘Reggie’ (or so I thought) and innocently asked him if his full name was Reginald – as in the Archie comics.  he threw me a disgusted look and then spelled it out to dispel any doubt. “R-e-j-i : that’s my full first name.”

“Oh!” I replied, trying to be polite, “Ji like the Northies – with respect and all that jazz… ”  I trailed off as he gave me a blank look!

2.  Names that sound like noises – the most common from Kerala is Achu which sounds like a loud, too-late-to-check sneeze to me.

Tamil is not immune to similar tendencies – Kichu is extremely common diminutive of Krishna – I think that sounds like a politely suppressed sneeze!  I once met a Bhooma and couldn’t help thinking her name sounded like a mini explosion!

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe, but, whose shoe was it? Clearly it was either a really big shoe or a really tiny lady. Either way, it’s pretty weird. Is this the sort of rhyme that we really want to be teaching to our nursery-aged children? It sounds more like hocus pocus drugs talk.

This matter needs to be investigated and put to bed once and for all. I suspect the rhyme might even be a mere fabrication, but that’s just speculation at this stage. I’ll get my best men working on it.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. circa 1810

The story about this accident prone egg, originally penned in 1810, has suffered some ‘creative’ editing at the hands of the BBC.  You will recall that all the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put Humpty together again.  However, in the Director’s Cut version they ‘could make him happy again’.

Is this political correctness gone too far?  Apparently, it’s not the first time the BBC has amended a traditional nursery rhyme – in their latest version of Little Miss Muffet, the little girl befriends the spider.  What next? 

‘A ring, a ring o’ roses.  

A pocket full of posies.  

Atch chew!  Atch chew!  

We all took Tamiflu’

I learnt to live with the loss of Humpty.  I comforted myself in the knowledge that all the King’s men, and their horses, did everything possible to save the stupid egg.  Also, something good came of his sad demise.  I learnt, through his example, that climbing large walls could be dangerous…..that cognitive behavioral therapy has stayed with me to this day.

Humpty Dumpty gets a happy ending!

The BBC have rewritten the classic nursery rhyme,  to give Humpty Dumpty a  happy ending.

The original goes a little something like this:

Humpty Dunpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dunpty had a great fall.

All the King’s horses and all the King’s men

couldn’t put humpty together again

The last line has been rewritten to now say “all the King’s horses and all the King’s men made Humpty Dumpty happy again.”

Now is this really necessary?

For decades children have grown up singing Humpty Dumpty to no ill effect. So what if Humpty Dumpty has a fall and can’t be put back together again, at least the nursery rhyme demonstrates the consequences of a person actions. Besides eggs are suppose to break!

It’s political correctness gone mad and im getting pretty tired of how over sensitive our society is becoming. I hate to think what will be next on the political correctness calender.

OMG, Nanny State’s  broadcaster  has changed the ending to the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. Seems the little snowflakes might get too upset if they think the big ol’ egg can’t be put back together again so it’s much better if they just think all the King’s horses “made Humpty happy again”. BBC take a bow.

Out of the many nursery rhymes that he knows, he just loves this particular one, a Malay nursery rhyme – Burung Kakak Tua (a.k.a The Parrot).

And lastly he finishes off with a big smile and a Yeay!!!  ….
