I am so relieved to be back. Aside from being AWOL for almost a month, my camera has been broken for a couple of weeks so I couldn’t take photos. Sorry! But now that I have a working cam… Let’s get this blog kickin’! :)

I thought I won’t be able to publish a post tonight since I will be working on a lot of things for December… But I figured I need to let loose and find inspiration again. I realized now that when I just started blogging a few months before, I didn’t feel as much stress as I do now even if I have a lot of work piled up in front of me. Maybe this is my way of coping up. I felt so restless during those days when I was MIA in the blogosphere. Hopefully now, this will set my gears running, haha.

Anyway, this was my outfit yesterday. I was an epitome of fashion and geometry! ;) Can you guess why? Haha. I think my outfit actually looks giddy with the combination of all the prints and patterns – from my tiger print sandals, my checkered skirt, all the way up to my criss-crossed back! I can see several shapes and geometrical figures somewhere there, too. I’m surprised. Most of the time, such prints and patterns don’t match well together. But this time, they did complement each other. Fashion tip 101: Sometimes, it’s the color combo that does the trick. So, make sure the colors go well together, and chances are, you’ll look good in your outfit. Simple as cake! Lol ;)

I think my top from Vella was the centerpiece of this ensemble. When I saw it online, I didn’t hesitate to buy it for a second! I was planning to wear it as it is, without  the black tank top beneath it, but since it was Sunday yesterday and we would go to church, I decided against it. Haha.

Sometimes, my family would be so random and do things at a spur of the moment. After driving to and from Nuvali, we went to Festival Mall. And as if we weren’t even contented yet, we still went to ATC after. Talk about mall-hopping! Haha. By the time we were in Festival, I was fitting so many clothes that I got tired of wearing my clothes over and over again in every shop I go into. I ended up just wearing the skirt and the black tank top. Lol

And guess who we saw performing onstage in ATC? I was laughing so hard – it’s the first time I saw my mom and tita went gaga over a celebrity. HAHAHA! I didn’t know they are such fan girls til last night. :))

Anyway, I didn’t have enough spare time to have my nails done til last weekend. Thanks to Nailaholics for my Aztec-inspired nails! Been a month since I had my mustache ones! So happy to see fully-furnished fingertips haha

1. Fresh air. Development has caught up with the south, and more people are relocating here. As such, commercial establishments are popping up everywhere. The beauty of living in the south is that there are still places that developers have committed to keeping green. Nuvali, for instance, will be fully developed in a few years, but the promise to keep the area clean and green is solid. Residents and neighbors have taken to the Nuvali roads for their runs and bicycle rides. The only congested area is the Greenfield intersection, which, by comparison to Metro Manila, may still be considered relatively “clean” by Manileños.
2. Great views and surroundings. We’ve got great views of Mt. Makiling and the Tagaytay Highlands. We’ve got trees, and more trees (soon to be planted as soon as we can).
3. Cooperative and generous parents. This is one thing that XS Nuvali has in common with XSSJ–the wonderful support of the parents when it comes to their child’s growth and development. As for the school activities, the parents are also there to support the school. We’ve had a parent plan an animal show for the students, parents initiating plans to support the GIA students, parents giving more than what is expected during the relief goods drive during the Sendong flooding and I could go on and on.

Wakeboarding!!!

Last November 17-19, my friends and I went to Naga for a holiday. It was soooo fun! In fact, it’s the highlight of my year!

The best part of our holiday is when we went to CWC and went swimming with obstacles and wake boarding! Wakeboarding is pretty cheap for P 165 an hour for beginners until 5pm only. The rate changes to P215 after 5pm.

There’s a different park for beginners before you go to the bigger one (picture above).

I’m planning to make this sport serious. Starting this December I’m going to have a trip to Nuvali in Laguna to wake board hopefully every Saturday!

It is fun being away from the city and Nuvali is one of the best destination for a quick escape from Manila.  We spend our Sunday afternoon at Nuvali and we really had a great time!

At first, I wasn’t sure if I could make it. I’ve been running and swimming a long time but I just started biking a month ago. I was also questioning if I would be able to race on that day because I’ll have done a 16km trail run just a day before the event. But the opportunity came, and its a free slot– the reward after the race was tempting too: a limited edition Rudy Project shades “Stratoflys”.

I was so excited on the day of the race. At around 4:30 AM, I immediately went to Republic Wakepark, Nuvali from my apartelle. I set up my bike and things at the transition area, had the body marking, got the time chips and did my warm ups. Present on the venue are Celebrities like Matteo Guidecelli,Erwan Heussaf, Kim Atienza, First timer Billy Crawford,Kim Atienza.Also present are 3isgreatertahn1 girls, Kim Mangorabang, Lc Langit and host Monica Torres.

But for some circumstances, the triathlon that everyone expected turned out to be a duathlon. The water in the man-made lake was not enough for the swim leg. But as a newbie, It’s didn’t matter to me. It was my first time to do either a tri or dua! The challenge will just be a 6km run, 30km bike and 3km run.

The Bike route is a 30km which composed of two loops. If other rides felt like it was riding a day in the park, for me it wasn’t. It was an uphill and downhill route. I just let the other athletes pass me. Drifting is legal here,no penalty unlike other event. I was just doing easy rides at low pace. In the last 5km bike, I felt my thigh starting to cramp but I knew I had to finish this because this was my challenge to myself. Some of the fellow triathetes cheered on me saying “Kaya mo yan, lapit na T2!” I replied “First time po kasi!” Reached T2 with my bike route time of 1:07.

The last leg was 3km run. I had to run fast to catch up my time lost on my bike route. So glad to finish it at almost 15mins! As I crossed the finish line, it felt like heaven regardless of what my time was and my rank.

I finished strong with the whole challenge at 1:58 ranking 345 out 534. As I got my finisher kit and free shades,some of the participants told me “Yan ba ang first time” and remembered they were the ones who cheered me along the bike route. The race turned out to be successful for me despite of some of the issues.

The Rudy Project Challenge was finished but the real challenge was still there– to take our challenge beyond our limits and take us in a higher level. Until the next challenge!

Nuvali Evoliving, Nuvali Laguna by Ayala Lands

Wakeboarding… Giving it a two thumbs up in my list. Had a great time and a great beginner’s luck first try.

The booboo part though is you have to fall in line and wait for around 30 minutes to an hour for your next try.

For two hours, I was only able to try 3 times. I had fun though and was able to spend time with my cousin and our friends.

Bonding time with Nic while our friends were busy falling in line hehe we talked about life, our love ones (our one and only) and another wakeboarding place that he and his girlfriend go to which is in Batangas and farther than Tagaytay. JR and I will try that place out. JR’s familiar with the place since that is where he used to wakeboard and he even bought his own gears (that’s how serious he was ^.^). Hope our plan to make it our couple sport will materialize (if budget and schedule permits).

Then after awhile, Nic tried out the advanced level while I went and prepare since JR will pick me up since we have work to do that day.

Night time came, we went to Chicago Club with the same set of friends. We sang lots of song and drank a bit of alcohol (a bit since we were late). They had me and JR sing duets. Love singing Just A Kiss and Cruisin’ with him. In my opinion, our voice blended well. Then, we sang group songs and a bit of solo songs here and there.

It was really, really a fun day. Joanne enjoyed it a lot and I was so happy to learn, see and feel her happiness. We weren’t able to spend time but all is well. I guess we need a break from each other haha since we are really inseperable at times. She needs to miss me right?

I remember my first cup – Okinawa Milk tea, 100% sugar, less ice with Pearl. I’m not a tea drinker, but when I tried this, it’s really good! I never imagine that tea can be this good! I don’t even taste that “herbal medicine” bitter taste I hate in a tea. Then my all-time favorite is Hokkaido Milk Tea, 100% sugar, less ice with pearl.

A lot of people kidded me that I lost my advantage. True, I do have an advantage in the swim. But I’ve done triathlon enough times to know that the swim (albeit important) doesn’t win you races. It only wins you a Speedo gift pack if you get the fastest split. Alas, I think my fastest swim split days are over. Some very fast young swimmers are getting into triathlon. I was going to see how I fared against them last Sunday, but even my son’s toy Sponge Bob wouldn’t have been able do strokes.

As with a common theme of all my recent race reports, I wasn’t really intending to join the Rudy Project Tri. I decided to join because I wanted to support a couple of friends whom I’ve been coaching in swimming in their first attempt at a triathlon. Of course they were disappointed when the officials cancelled the swim. But I was inclined to think there was a better time and place for the first-timers. No, no, no, no…I didn’t drain the lake! The event wasn’t even in my radar. But I got up out of bed again, sat outside our house with my bike, waited for my carpool, and headed to Nuvali.

There were a lot of friends, teammates, and folks from the local triathlon community who were present on race day. I got to say hello to many of them, wished each other good luck, and exchanged quips whenever someone said “There goes your advantage, Coach Guy.” God, I wish I had a 4-minute per kilometer run pace for every time someone said that to me. I think I replied to one of them: my bike and run isn’t so bad. Who was I kidding?

The gun went off and the big boys and girls and even those with grandchildren took off like rockets. I had my strategy: stay focused on technique and allow my body to warm up naturally, to loosen up, and find my groove when it comes. Apparently, there were about four of us with this same strategy versus about 400 who just wanted to haul ass. I didn’t feel as tight as I did in my two previous 21k races, but it was my energy-level that wasn’t cooperating that day. I had ample nutrition with me, but I simply felt tired. Still, I kept chugging along, caught up to and chatted with some friends, and believed this race would be a vital brick in my future race calendar cathedral.

My legs on the bike leg were fine. I tried to chase people down, or tried to hang on to bikers (since this was a draft-legal race). Although overall it was never going to be a fast-moving day for me, even on a bike course with some long flats and downhills. I consider myself a good climber, so on the return hills, I did catch some people. It wasn’t a goal to chase anyone down, again, I just thought about technique and allowed my body do what it could — even in the final 3k run. As Master Yoda would say: The force, in a different way, feel, if, a slow day, it is.

The triathlon community is growing tremendously in the Philippines. It was good to see people whom I used to only see in bars and buffets before they took on the multisport lifestyle with as much gusto as all-you-can-eat roast beef. Congratulations to all who joined! Thanks for reading.
