I’ll admit a fondness for pictures of cooks. Maybe it’s the hat or the white outfit. This one is for those of you who watch the food network and are contemplating becoming a celebrity chef. You may have to stop at 48th Street en route to the top.

Walking down the sidewalk in a shoe-scraping skirt while taking snapshots is about as dangerous as talking and texting, it’s just less common. There’s a drama happening in the background here, between the women and the man by the street.

I forget about 53rd Street for weeks, though the MoMA block is one of my favorites for picture taking. It’s just the right mix of artsy types, regular people, and tourists, next to a nondescript background.

The man in the red baseball cap is confident, you can tell. His friend, in the green shirt, is listening, but look at his tightly clenched fist. Maybe he’s having other opinions.

That’s why most of us to to a mailbox, isn’t it, to sent back a movie or two?

During construction, the stairs to the AT&T store on Sixth Avenue have been replaced by a ramp. Though it’s only about 14 inches off the ground, the platform affords a new perspective on scenic, urban Sixth Avenue.

He dresses sharp, will make you a hot dog, and serve you a hot pretzel. But if you don’t want food, today’s man will hand hand you a napkin free of charge.

Fifth Avenue is a sensory overload. It’s crowded, so attention must be paid to dodge other pedestrians. Then there are the stores with bright windows trying to distract anyone who will look. Sometimes it’s all too much.

That’s a bicycle chained to the bus stop, as if to remind anyone who is waiting that there are alternative ways to get to one’s destination.

Life in NYC takes place on the sidewalks; it’s where we get from one place to another, eat, drink, smoke, and engage in many other activities. Over the next week or so, I’ll be posting pictures of everyday things I’ve come upon.
