However it comes with a price, customers will have to pay £15 to get the code to unlock the device.

This makes me believe there must be a similar method, as used on other phones to unlock the device via a code which will be calculated by O2.

Die Situation? Ausgrenzung durch Unterlassung würde ich sagen. Denn zwar verbinden Handy und Internet Menschen in noch vor 15 Jahren unvorstellbarer Weise.  Aber wenn sie Ton- und Sprachausgabe nicht hören, Schrift und Bild nicht sehen oder die gängigen Eingabegeräte nicht bedienen können, dann können Behinderte Sprach- und Datendienste in festen und mobilen Netzen nicht nutzen. Und an der Gemeinschaft und Produktivität, die  die Anwendungen moderner Telekommunikation stiften, nicht teilhaben. Auch speziell auf bestimmte Einschränkungen zugeschnittene Tarife oder Möglichkeiten, Kundenbetreuung und Support zu erreichen, gibt es in Deutschland soweit ich sehe nicht. Was alles machbar wäre, habe ich an einem wirklich vorbildlichen Beispiel aus den USA beschrieben.

Darum will ich zuerst mal Telefónica o2 Germany loben — weil sich der viertgrößte Mobilfunknetzbetreiber Deutschlands des Themas annimmt!

O2 will den Dialog mit Behinderten (und dabei wie es scheint besonders mit Schwerhörigen und Gehörlosen) sowie an Behinderung Interessierten aufnehmen. Dafür haben O2 und UPJ, ein Verein, der Unternehmen bei gemeinnützigen Aktivitäten unterstützt, extra eine Online-Plattform eingerichtet. Dort kann jedermann Beiträge einstellen und die anderer kommentieren. So möchte O2 von Problemen erfahren, die Behinderte zu bewältigen haben damit Internet und Telefon nutzbar sind und diskutieren, welche Chancen sich für sie ergeben könnten. Ich finde das grundsätzlich gut und möchte meine Leser ermutigen: Schaut Euch das mal an! Ich habe mich dort vorgestern nach einigem Zögern auch beteiligt.

Wer mich kennt, weiß aber, dass ich hellhörig werde, wenn sich Behörden oder Unternehmen Dialog auf die Fahnen schreiben. Denn was passiert hier? O2 lässt eine Frage ins Netz schreiben (“Brücke oder Graben: Welchen Einfluss hat die moderne Telekommunikation auf die gesellschaftliche Integration von Menschen mit Behinderung?”) und wartet ab, was kommt. Währenddessen wird die Aktion schonmal als corporate responsibility verkauft.

“Diskutieren Sie mit!” sagt O2. Aber von Diskussion ist zumindest nach einem Monat Laufzeit nicht viel zu sehen. Und das ist auch kein Wunder. Denn welchen Einfluss auf wen man sich durch die Beteiligung erhoffen darf, ist unklar. Da werden Erfahrungen und Überlegungen abgefragt, Betroffene und Interessierte setzen sich hin und schreiben. Sie antworten O2. O2 dagegen will es einfach nur wissen. Dialog und Diskussion meinen in diesem Fall Dialog und Diskussion ohne O2.

Am Ende des Diskussionszeitraums wird eine Zusammenfassung der Beiträge erstellt und zumeist auf Grundlage der Ergebnisse eine Veranstaltung mit weiteren Experten und Mulitiplikatoren zum jeweiligen Thema organisiert. Die Auswertung der Beiträge sowie der direkte Dialog im Rahmen der Veranstaltung eröffnen den Auftraggebern der Fragestellung die Möglichkeit, die Meinungen und Sichtweisen der Teilnehmer und Experten, in ihren internen Entscheidungsprozess zu entsprechenden Fragestellungen einzubeziehen. [...] Alle Teilnehmer erhalten nach dem Ende der Diskussion eine kurze Zusammenfassung der Ergebnisse sowie auch einen Hinweis darauf, wie der Fragesteller diese in seinen Entscheidungsprozess einbeziehen wird. Das heißt: In den “Dialog”, den man anstoßen möchte, steigt man selbst nicht ein. Mehr noch, O2 fragt gar nicht, was O2 tun könnte, sondern was “Politik, Wissenschaft, Behindertenverbände und Unternehmen” tun könnten und sollten. Damit ist jeder und niemand direkt angesprochen. Indem man sich beteilige könne man, wie es hier heißt, “Einfluss auf gesellschaftlich relevante Themen nehmen.” Geht es vielleicht noch bißchen breiter und unbestimmter?  O2 macht sich systematisch frei von jeder direkten Antwortpflicht.

Ich finde es grundsätzlich gut, dass sich ein Unternehmen wie O2 offen, ja wißbegierig zeigt. So wie es bisher läuft, ist mir allerdings der Nutzen für das Unternehmen, sich wißbegierig und offen zu zeigen deutlicher als der für diejenigen, die dem Unternehmen ihre Zeit und Mühe schenken. Den Kunden und der Zielgruppe, um die es hier angeblich gehen soll.

Dialog mit Kunden sieht anders aus. Aber im Unterschied zum als Vodafail bekannt gewordenen Versuch eines Mitbewerbers sehe ich hier einigermaßen gute Möglichkeiten, das Ganze zum besseren zu wenden. Thema und Zielgruppe sind definierter, und vielleicht bietet gerade die Unklarheit dessen was dabei herauskommen soll, eine Chance.

Ein Konzern sucht — jedenfalls nach eigener Aussage — den Dialog. Tun wir was dafür! Geht mal rüber , bildet Euch Eure Meinung und beteiligt Euch. Kritisch. Ich würde mir nur wünschen, dass sich auch O2 an seinem eigenen Dialog beteiligt, damit dieser den Namen auch verdient. Und bin wie immer auch hier an Euren Meinungen und Kommentaren interessiert.

So I went to see The Jonas Brothers with my sister last night, yes, the Jonas Brothers. They weren’t half bad and they had a fantastic brass band, this is a photo of them doing a little dance, Joe is second from the right :]

UK supermarket giant, Tesco, has unveiled that they will start to sell iPhone’s this year. Offering ‘competivie contract prices’. A spokesman for the firm said that it hoped to offer the phone “in time for Christmas”. They have not yet revealed tariffs but are offering “competitive prices”.

Tesco has now joined the iPhone party: O2, Orange, Vodafone and now Tesco will sell both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Orange said that they had sold more than 30,000 handsets on its first day of release.

The phone will still be running on O2 as Tesco Mobile and O2 are in a joint venture. You will be able to get the phones both on contract and pay as you go.

The day started well enough. In fact, the whole tournament started splendidly.

A highly successful first Sunday with plenty of top players in action (Andy Murray’s and Roger Federer’s wins being the notable highlights).

On Monday, a day session with enough upset (Soderling beating Nadal in straight sets in a repeat of this year’s French Open fourth round) satisfied tennis fans, neutrals and journalists. A session that ended with time aplenty to grab a bite to eat and settle down for a doubles-singles match duo in the evening.

But then the trouble started to mount. We heard rumblings from the Media Centre about the previous evening’s exploits and the horror that Roger Federer’s press conference would commence at midnight. Oh well, fans thought. Journalists have to do their (very privileged) job. What does it matter to them that they have to share taxis, instead of ride the tube, to get home?

However, on Monday night, journalists’ worries extended to the mass crowd. After a slightly late-running doubles match, the hotly anticipated singles match between Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko (a rematch of last year’s final) started at around 9pm. Both counter-punchers clearly wanted to win, and how; in 30 minutes, a period in which a set can often be complete, the Serb and Russian had only played four games.

For many spectators, their travel arrangements only extended until midnight—and, given the tenacity and endurance of the two players, a long night was predicted.

In fact, many spectators had to leave at 11:30pm in order to secure transport home. Some were even forced to leave at 9:45pm to ensure getting home safely. Many ended up being stranded in East London after staying on to applaud Djokovic’s victory over Davydenko, with tubes into Central London stopping at midnight.

Not good, especially when a session only comprises one doubles and one singles match, the latter being the most favoured for the majority.

Clearly, this isn’t good for the audience—and nor for the players, who must dislike playing in front of a half-capacity crowd at such an important event.

Can anything be done? Well, somehow, London transport authorities must know that such events, with effectively late-night conclusion certainty, are due to take place. Can connections from the O2 Arena and North Greenwich be improved for such occasions?

Television schedules, too, could bring some common sense to proceedings.  Tennis approaching midnight in the UK, while being advantageous for those in North America, is not necessarily what the public wants to watch on a weekday night when they have to get up for work early the next morning.

Of course, the obvious answer is to commence the evening session a little earlier. Even a 30 minute advance in scheduling could make the difference between worry and enjoyment for the crowd, players and even sponsors.

For this event to continue in the utterly successful manner in which it started, surely such an improvement must be made for future years.

Well, the Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals got underway in London. And what a spectacle!

This is an event in the truest sense of the word.  London’s architecturally stunning O2 arena has been transformed into a gladiatorial tennis arena—a setting to inspire, or perhaps intimidate, the world’s best tennis stars. The spotlight is on the players, a one-on-one, week-long fight for the title—let’s hope they shine the entire week.

The view from the bleachers is just as spectacular as the court itself. Each of the 17,000 seats have a brilliant view of the court, in an atmospheric, theatre-like environment. The cheers and electricity emanating from the many thousands of fans to the players on court is addictive. Tennis in Great Britain is alive and well.

What a first day it was. The event kicked off in style with practically a full house observing the first match between No. 1 in doubles, Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic, and No. 8 seeds Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski.  To spice up the proceedings, an upset was duly served, with the eighth-ranked Poles beating the seasoned veterans.

The atmosphere only grew when No. 1 Brit in singles, Andy Murray, took to the stage against 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro. Predictions expected the match would be tight—the world Nos. 4 and 5, a Slam Champion and potential future Slam Champion, battling on their favourite surface.

For the passionate home crowd, Murray did not disappoint. The match, full of blinding rallies, fast serves and awe-inspiring talent, culminated in a Murray victory that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

The conclusion of the day session gave the many fans a chance to relax, recharge and get ready for an eventful evening. The alleyways around the arena became full of chatter and excitement, the electricity overflowing from the tennis court.

There are plenty of food and drinks outlets to satisfy every taste. But beware of the horrendous queues.

Being such an open, important and publicity-packed event, people-spotting is a great activity to make the time fly by. From ex-players, to umpires, to commentators, to journalists, all variety of tennis enthusiasts mingle with the crowds. It’s a true tennis fan heaven under one roof.

More capacity-crowd doubles commenced during the evening session. This time, it was an expected win from No. 3 seeds Mark Knowles and Mahesh Bhupathi.

At 8:45 p.m., however, the “real” match started—Roger Federer against Fernando Verdasco.

The tension mounted until the two greats made their way to the court—a tension that was so greatly exacerbated by dramatic music, emotive video montages and player interviews being broadcast on the big screens.

This event certainly is epic in all its elements.

When Federer arrived, the applause was thunderous, the atmosphere intense. We all knew we were in for a good show.

The Spaniard started on a blinder, pummeling every shot and serve. Federer seemed unnerved at times, yet remained calm, knowing that his chance would come. And it did.

While Verdasco continued his successful shot-making, with a little encouragement from the audience Roger found his groove and started to retaliate. Cross-court forehands, volleys and drop shots all found their mark and soon, Roger was well in control in the third set.

Not even a few scoreboard glitches—Federer became Spanish for three minutes and the big screen went partially black for a significant part of the third set—could dampen the fresh, exciting mood of the first evening singles match to be held in London.

At 11:05 p.m., a thoroughly energised, but hoarse, collection of tennis fans emerged from the O2 arena fully satisfied—the home favourite was triumphant, as was the sentimental favourite. But given the success and enjoyment of the day, the thousands of people swarming about the arena appeared to be craving another dose of high-quality, high-drama tennis on the best, brightest stage.

ATP, we salute you. After an only semi-successful Shanghai venture, we worried if the over-commercialised, over-publicised and over-sponsored season-ending finale in London would be a media and fan nightmare.

But all fears were in vain. You chose the city, you chose the venue and we cannot thank you enough.

I had always taken it for granted that if you sent and paid for a text message to be delivered that it would be, regardless of which mobile subscriber number it was sent to. At least that’s what I would expect at least 99.99% of the time, allowing for the occasional technical hiccup which would be fairly representative of a “best endeavours” clause.

So I was surprised to realise that sending a text message from an O2 to a Yoigo subscriber did not work at all; ever.

When I first started to look at the issue, I thought it might be a technical routing problem that perhaps had not yet been ironed-out, but it seems, from what various people have posted on the Internet, that this most likely is what can best be described as a deliberate act on the part of O2.

My surprise turned to irritation when I realised that O2 are happily charging for the cost of the SMS text message, irrespective that it doesn’t stand a bat’s chance in hell of ever getting to its recipient; moreso since sending a text message from a Yoigo number to an O2 number does indeed work as it should.

Hunting around the ‘net a little, reveals various posts suggesting that O2 does not guarantee delivery of SMS text messages to non-roaming partners. In the light of the additional experimental evidence that I have accrued, that would more properly seem to translate to “We only deliver to who we want, but we’ll take your money anyway if you are fool enough to give it to us”.

Victims of this policy, aside from the originators of such O2 text messages, include Yoigo and Hutchinson 3G (H3H), the latter who are Yoigo’s roaming partner in the UK and neither of which have a partnership with O2.

Some of my initial surprise subsided somewhat after I realised that O2 were nearly 70% owned by Telefonica (España), but this did little for my irritation. Telefonica (aka Movistar) may be forced to “play ball” with Yoigo in Spain itself (by having to participate in the appropriate virtual network sharing agreements), but there doesn’t seem to be an over-riding anxiety to do so from the UK – at least on the level of providing a decent two-way text messaging service.

Overall that’s a pretty shoddy state of affairs, especially considering that other networks do deliver SMS text messages between themselves even without roaming partnership agreements (for example Orange-Yoigo-Orange) – not to mention the fact that sending a text message from Yoigo to O2 also works without issues.

Unfortunately unless enough O2 customers complain directly to O2 (since they are the ones charging for, but not delivering a service), then I doubt that anything will get done about it anytime soon.

On the other hand all it may take is a single complaint to OFCOM.

Finally, whilst touching on the subjects of Yoigo and roaming, the current UK roaming partner for Yoigo appears to be “3” (H3H). A number of people have reported an inability to get any roaming service in the UK, with a Yoigo SIM handset. It is worth checking “3″s current coverage here. It looks like “3″ are in the process of upgrading their network and are stating that their coverage, in and around London, will be much improved by the summer of 2010. See here for details of this “regional” upgrade. Elsewhere, the coverage looks like it’s more than a tad spotty, with lots of “need to try outdoor” holes in it, so you might want to try that if you’re having trouble locking onto their network.

So all is not roses if you’re going to go roaming in the UK with a Yoigo SIM. On the bright side though, Yoigo tariffs are still pretty damn reasonable.

Additionally, it does seem that, prior to making the trip, you need to phone Yoigo on 622 each time you go to the UK to make sure that there is no restriction on roaming for your SIM. You can find the Yoigo FAQ on Roaming here (in Spanish) with links to countries, etc.

Grund sei die Benachteiligung der beiden Netzbetreiber gegenüber den größeren Anbietern Vodafone und T-Mobile. Die Bundesnetzagentur hat im Oktober den Weg für die Auktion gelegt und die Vergaberegeln vorgestellt. Das Paket von 360 Megahertz in mehreren Frequenzbereichen gehört auch die sogenannte „Digitale Dividende“ in den 800 Megahertz-Bereichen und kommt 2010 unter den Hammer. In erster Linie geht es bei den Frequenzen um die schnellere drahtlose Internetnutzung auf dem Land. Die Regeln widersprächen damit den Vorgaben des Telekommunikationsgesetztes (TKG), insbesondere dem Ziel des chancengleichen Wettbewerbs, so laut E-Plus. Auch der Breitbandausbau in der Fläche sei gefährdet und wäre nicht Ziel, die Auktion zu verzögern. Es gehe um fairen Wettbewerb.

The graceful star took to the stage belting hits from her latest album I am ..Sasha fierce as well as performing hits from her earlier work, as well as a destiny’s child melody with all their bootylicious anthems. Beyonce aka Sasha Fierce’s concert was truly amazing and Kanye West also made a special appearance rapping to the hit “EGO” as well as Jay Z -who  joined her on the stage for “crazy in love”

Beyonce also paid tribute to the late great Michael Jackson dedicating her song “halo” to him which was a touching and powerful performance.   Honestly-Beyonce is in a league of her own- period. No other entertainer I know other than Michael Jackson and Prince can sing and dance and deliver live at the same time and has an impact on the modern music world like she does. In  Beyonce’s second date with the 02 she  jumped into the crowd and did a “crowd surf” whilst singing- in heels may i mention!- it was impromptu but exciting moment -letting her fans carry her around and back on to the stage.

Crema tenisului mondial masculin a descins in Londra, cu ocazia barclays ATP World Masters Tour. Primii opt in ierarhie, duelandu-se in grupe parca importate din competitii sportive pe echipe, si cu un britanic printre ei. Andy Murray, un fiu al Scotiei.

Tabelul competitiei masculine domina curtea interioara de la Wimbledon, intre Central Court si Court 1.

Care a si dat la o parte cortina turneului, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, dupa ce demarase cu un 5-0 in 22 minute, in fata argentinianului Del Potro, locul 5 mondial. Un insular in varsta de 22 ani, dispunand de un sud-american de 20, nu intr-o reeditare a razboiului Malvinelor…

Ce-i interesant despre aceste zile de tenis la cel mai inalt nivel tine insa si de localizarea evenimentului. Nu la All England Lawn&Tennis Club, sediu situat in sud-vestul Londrei, in inverzitul si traditionalul Wimbledon, ci la O2 Arena, acea labartata cupola cu tepi din ecranizarea cu James Bond, campata aidoma unui cort extraterestru, undeva pe malul sudic al fluviului, in tuguiul peninsulei Greenwich.

Ce aduce nou aceasta repozitionare a tenisului, de pe iarba Wimbledonului in sala complexului cu nume de furnizor de servicii de telefonie mobila? Beneficii atat pentru spectatori, cat si pentru jucatori.

Pentru jucatori!? Cum asa? Ei bine, e o lege nescrisa partizanatul in favoarea simpatiilor gazdelor de la Wimbledon de a oferi Central Court si in general terenurile principale celor mai bine clasati dintre britanici. Avantajul de a juca pe iarba proprie. Asta pe cand alde Dinara Safina, la vremea verii numarul unu mondial intre femei, era azvarlita pe terenurile periferice ale complexului de inalta tinuta. Un Murray probabil nici nu mai stie prea bine cum arata alte terenuri decat cel Central.

In O2 in schimb, fiecare tenisman isi asteapta randul si democratia e impartita si pentru purcei, si pentru catei. Pe acelasi teren de sub o cupola atat de mult blamata, atat de nefunctionala in opinia multora, la ora cumpenei dintre milenii, cand, intr-adevar, megainvestitia parea a fi devenit un “elefant alb”, un proiect muribund din fasa, miliarde aruncate pe malul Tamisei.  

Iata insa ca i s-a gasit utilitatea, fiind de fapt multifunctional. De la concerte de muzica, incluzand cel al Madonnei, pana la recentele Campionate Mondiale de gimnastica, iar acum, o noutate, tenisul.

E bine si pentru spectatori. Putini muritori de rand isi permiteau luxul de a prinde un bilet la Wimbledon, ale carui destule meciuri se derulau si cu suficiente locuri lasate libere, pentru ca angajatii sau simpatiile ori prietenii angajatilor ori simpatiilor diverselor companii ce-si asigurasera pe cai comercial-corporatiste locurile lor in jurul dreptunghiurilor verzi nu catadicsisera finalmente sa onoreze cu prezenta.

In plus, Wimbledon e cochet, capsuni cu frisca si sampanie, bonomie de moda veche, dar nu intr-atat de extins. E oarecum exclusivist. O2 in schimb e pentru norod, mai mare, cu 17.500 locuri, si extrem de putine dintre acestea de un alt rang. Uniformitate si incluziune prin diversitate. Si un baietel dintr-o familie nevoiasa, de pe-acolo, din estul Londrei, dar de pe malul nordic, atat de “mai altfel” decat inverzitul Greenwich, poate prinde cu taticul sau un loc, inspirandu-se din arta cu racheta a urmasului lui Henman si intrebandu-si parintele cand incepe si el orele in preajma fileului.

Indirect, un imbold pentru regenerarea tenisului la nivelul juvenil si in general al maselor, in Regatul Unit. Atat de zgarcit in oferta de campioni pe scena mondiala. Atat de optimist acum, cand intre aspirantii la glorie suprema se regaseste si un britanic, fie el scotian si nu englez.

Acest turneu la O2 e in pas cu tendintele evidente ale globalizarii, tenis pentru mai multi, o nivelare prin devalorizare, sapand incet la temelia unui emblematic Wimbledon, atat de inradacinat in malul de care incet-incet ne indepartam.

Iar in crema jocului se va remarca Roger, ce ne zambeste cu crema pe fata si Gillette la purtator, nu ca Napoleon, cu o mana folosind racheta de tenis si cu cealalta ingrijindu-se de aspectul sau facial, aparandu-si concomitent amicul din reclama TV cu cei trei muschetari, Thierry cel cu mana pe lama de ras dar si pe minge.

Vom afla curand cine va triumfa, cine va lua potul, acolo unde recent si Marian Dragulescu sfida legea acceleratiei gravitationale si dadea Romaniei si mai mult aur. Unii aduc aur, cu sudoare si repetitie, altii iau aerul romanilor intr-o tara cu munti ca ai nostri care aur poarta. Iar noi?

Cladirea terenului principal de la Wimbledon, Centre Court, vazuta dinspre poarta 5. Wimbledon inseamna traditie, istoria jocului dar si emfaza. Nu e multora accesibil... De aceea Murray se poate astepta in O2 sa fie incurajat de un spectru mai larg de suporteri

Nach 48 Monaten O2 (früher Viag Interkom) und 48 Monaten E-Plus wechsle ich nun zum Ex-Monopolisten. Warum? Complete L mit dem iPhone als Telefon- und Datenkomplettlösung. Leider kann man den Online-Vorteil im iPhone-Fall nicht nutzen, was sehr ärgerlich ist. Völlig unbrauchbar für mich ist LIGA TOTAL – da hätte ich lieber die 150 Euro in Raten abgezogen. Das erste Mal seit 1999 (Nokia 6110, 3100, N82 u.a.) werde ich Nokia also den Rücken kehren (. Wer nach der Werkschließung damals Nokia den Rücken kehrte, den halte ich immer noch für extrem seltsam. Aber das ist ein anderes Thema. Natürlich fühlt es sich komisch an, nach 2 Jahren auf N82 jetzt plötzlich -2 MP bei der Kamera hinzunehmen und auf den Blitz zu verzichten. Auch die geringe Displayauflösung gefällt mir nicht (plus die relative Systemgeschlossenheit). Aber in erster Linie ist das iPhone auch mobile Konsole und Spielzeug  für mich, und nach 2 Jahren kann man sich ja wieder anders entscheiden.

Although Green Day are not the most requested artist we carry, they are popular with a wide range of ages, their ability to engage the listener with songs written with true feeling, and a talent to deliver outstanding tracks time and time again make them irresistable to the ears of millions of fans around the world.

As a Green Day fan myself, following them through the years, I was lucky enough to see them at the o2 a few weeks ago, this was only my second time seeing them, my first being back in 2005 when they made an outstanding appearance at Milton Keynes. The experience was somewhat amazing, but that’s another story for another day!

The next release from the album ’21st Century Breakdown’ is the title track ’21st Century Breakdown’, a classic Green Day track taking you on a musical journey from start to finish. Billie and the band do not fail to deliver in this amazing track, which features a fantastic quiet verse, loud chorus dynamic. I think this is one of Green Day’s best tracks yet. Dare I say, I detect a hint of Beatles like sound in the album especially in the song ‘Last Night on Earth’. I know they will never replicate the sucess of the Beatles, and nor will they ever capture the full sound of the Beatles, but they certainly aspire to them and I would say the Beatles heavily influenced them at some stage.
