Following yesterday’s VOTW, I have some good news if you’re a huge gaming fan, you may have heard of the upcoming Star Wars MMO, or rather the next one. Entering a world which is completely unlike that of a Star Wars Galaxies, yet oh so familiar is Star Wars: The Old Republic, as with most MMOs, the title will be released for PC only, somehow continuing the desktop legacy, they never outgrow their usefulness, will they?

You have the chance to play as either the Galactic Republic or the Sith Empire, each assigned different abilities, unique classes with a relevant backstory who’s affected by the choices the player makes throughout the game. The classes are as follows; the Bounty Hunter, Sith Warrior, Imperial Agent, and Sith inquisitor for the Sith Empire, and the Trooper,Smuggler, Jedi Knight,and Jedi Consular for the Galactic Republic. Despite the fact that the player can be at the helm of their characters choices and the moral implications of such, the story will generally fit in to the overall story arc .Those who prefer even more background information will be glad to know of the nozelisation of the game written by Sean Williams called “Star Wars: The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance” and is scheduled for release on July 27, 2010.

In terms of gameplay, the player will be able to have complete control of their character including the choices they make, which will affectively permanently open or close storylines. The style of the MMO will seem familiar to fans of the Mass Effect series, with full voice dialogue and a benchmark in cinematic scene integration to enhance gameplay. It has been confirmed that the following planets will be accessible so far; Korriban, Ord Mantell, Nal Hutta, Tython, Coruscant, Balmorra, and Alderaan. Although players expecting to see protagonist from the films will be disappointed, as the events in The Old Republic are set somewhat 3,500 years before those on-screen, and some 300 years after Knights Of The Old Republic. The MMO essentially focuses on the re-emergence of the Sith Empire and it’s attempts of destroying the Galactic Republic, which from the rather amazing trailer below, seems successful at one point or another. It seems that the Sith Empire are at their peak and formidable at that. Now take a peek and enjoy. Watch in HD for most amazing shizz ever.

The man who is ultimately responsible for the rise of Darth Vader, the fall of the Republic and the deaths of his fellow Jedi. Good job.

Some great pics surfaced at Sir Steves Guide of two new Cinema Scenes!  No word yet on when we can expect to find them, but here’s what we’ll see:

First off is Anakin’s yellow Starfighter as seen in Revenge of the Sith – the set is titled “Attack on the Invisible Hand”.

As well, we are treated to Jango Fett’s Slave I as seen in Attack of the Clones – this set is named “Escape from Kamino”.

I think we’re getting along quite nicely……NOT!!!! First, he puts all of his stuff on the ground, but now, he says my stew tastes bad*! He said he’d make dinner next time. I’ve got high expectations.

Yet another chapter in the Gay Golden Robot theory out there… also a Freudian field day with the author. It was an entertaining read though so without further ado; I present to you:

C3PO Comes Clean

I must say that the impending destruction of the Death Star is a bit troubling. Sure, from the outside it is an architectural monstrosity, but the interior is quite elegantly designed. The window treatments in the Vader suite are simply breathtaking!

I’m such a bitch, I can’t believe I told you I’ve been to the Vader suite! OK, well if you must know, before all this war craziness started again, Lord Vader and I were almost an item. It was back when the Dark Side was at its peak and he held a little cocktail party. Everybody was there: Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt, Ula the Dancing Girl-you name ‘em!

After a couple of white wine spritzers, Vader was all over me. A bit of a lightweight with the booze, between you and I. The things he said to me that night…

“C-3PO, I hear that gold is a very pliable metal.”

“You, me, a bottle of Dom and lot of WD-40. We’ll put on a little Neal Diamond and I’ll let you wear my cape.”

“I hope one of the six million languages you speak is a naughty one.”

All with that heavy breathing. I nearly blew a fuse.

Our little affair never happened. Vader switched to Scotch and started his ventriloquist choking act. He killed eight storm troopers that night. Such a diva.

The next few weeks he acted all butch so that everyone would forget what a slut he was at the party. Everywhere I went, he mocked the way I walked. Every time I entered a room, he would announce the presence of the “resident golden queer.”

When the chance came to hitch a ride off that negativity train with the adorable Leia, I jumped on it. Leia is a good person. That being said, her choice of wardrobe and hairstyle is fucking ridiculous.

The ride off of the ship was a pleasant one, as the lovely R2D2 was at my side. For all of his annoying ‘bleeps’ and ‘bloops’ and his insistence that robots with wheels have no sexual preference, that little guy is the perfect height for a vigorous face fucking!

Little did I know, my travels would soon connect me with the gorgeous Luke Skywalker. I think I am in love. I have had a tough time letting my guard down after the Vader fiasco. The good news with Luke is that judging from his attire, feathered hair and delicate features, he’ got to be out of the closet.

Many of the fellas coo over that bad boy Hans Solo and say he is queer as a three-dollar galactic credit, but I fear he’ just along for the ride. I see the way he looks at Leia. Plus, his dog Chewbacca is entirely too big for him to be gay.

The gang is sad about the demise of Obi-Wan. Not me. That British queen made more passes at me than Elizabeth II around the moors. I needed a few days and a good welder after one weekend on the same ship with him.

The thing about Jedis is that they’ll fuck anything. And let’ face facts, a Jedi can claim he’ straight, or has sworn an oath to this or that, but it’ all a front. There was that scandal with the
little boys all those years back-some say that is why young Anakin turned into such a bitch in his teens. God only knows what Obi Wan did to him on all those long journeys to the Degoba System.

Let’ just say I’ve been servant to some of the greatest Jedis and there’ a reason why I walk so
funny today.

Tomorrow is the big day. Luke and the gang will fly off to destroy the evil, but smartly decorated Death Star. I wish them well. Their plan looks so complicated. They need to penetrate the exterior of the well-mounded evil orb. Then they have to forge ahead until the see the gaping hole. One good shot right up the hole and into a long canal will make that ship explode with delight”¦ er, I mean blow it to bits.

I just know that Young Skywalker can hit that money shot.

Wie man’s macht, ist’s falsch!

Bestand bei Folge 4 “Senate Spy” noch die Gefahr, dass einem in der Mitte der Folge langsam der Kopf auf die Brust sinkt und man sanft einschlummert, ohne bis zum Nachspann noch besonders viel zu verpassen, so genügt es bei Folge 5 “Landing at Point Rain” schon, nur einmal zu blinzeln und schon versäumt man 3 zerstörte Gunships, 7 erschossene Klone und 11 verkohlte Geonosianer.

The “Wars” are back! Und wie!

Wer das Ende von Episode II mochte (nein, nicht die Hochzeit zwischen Padme und Anakin, sondern die Schlacht um Geonosis), der wird auch diese Folge von CW mögen, dann das ist es worum es hier geht und so ziemlich nur um das. Same planet, same procedure!

Was man daran auch erkennt ist die Art, mit der die Republik mit Planeten umgeht, die sie befriedet hat: scheinbar belassen sie keine Truppen dort, die darauf achten, dass es nach Beendigung der Kämpfe auch weiterhin mit rechten Dingen zugeht, sondern sie vertrauen (wohl aus Ressourcenmangel) darauf, dass die befreiten Völker wohl ausreichend dankbar und zivilisiert sind und nicht bei der erst besten Gelegenheit wieder zum Feind überlaufen, oder von diesem erneut besetzt werden.

Nun ja, mit Geonosis hat das wohl nicht so ganz funktioniert.

Insofern schließt diese Episode auch an die vorherige an, in der Padme unter Einsatz ihres Lebens und ihr Dekoltees’ die Pläne von Poggles neuer Droidenfabrik sicherstellen konnte.

Was die Animation betrifft, so schlägt diese Folge alle bisher gezeigten um Welten. Nie zuvor gab es in CW so viel Bewegung und so viel Action gleichzeitig auf dem Schirm zu sehen. Der Vergleich mit der Schlacht um Geonosis aus AOTC passt nicht nur in Bezug auf die Handlung, sondern auf die Umsetzung der Kampfszenen! Dies führt auch dazu, dass “Landing at Point Rain” die bisher mit Abstand “brutalste” Folge ist. Sah man bisher hauptsächlich “nur” Klone sterben und Droiden zerhackt werden, so werden hier nun auch Geonosianer erschossen, zerstückelt und sogar gegrillt. Diese sind zwar potthässlich, aber nichts destotrotz Wesen aus Fleisch und Blut.

Sind sie nicht attraktiv?

Für wirklich junge Kinder ist diese Folge daher vielleicht weniger geeignet!

Aber es gibt noch eine Reihe weiterer Premieren in dieser Folge: erstmals tritt Ki Adi Mundi in seiner animierten Form auf. Ich finde ja, er sieht mit seinen Kulleraugen viel weniger respekteinflößend aus als “in echt”:

Dann sehen wir Y-Flügler mit einer roten Bemalung. Wie es zu diesen kommen konnte erklärt Pete Vilmur auf der offiziellen Seite.

Rot 5 bereit

Weiters sehen wir erstmals die republikanischen Gunships mit den Geschützkugeln an der Seite, die zwar in Episode II waren, in der ersten Staffel von CW jedoch auf wundersame Weise irgendwie verschwanden. Wobei ich diese Kugeln ja für einen strategischen Irrsinn halte: viel mehr auf dem Präsentierteller kann man ja wohl gar nicht sitzen! Arme Hunde, die da drin Dienst tun müssen:

Schließlich sieht man in dieser Folge unsere Helden zum ersten Mal dreckig und verwundet. Vielleicht legt sich Ahsoka jetzt doch endlich neue Fetzen zu.

Das dreckige Dutzend?

Schließlich feiern in dieser Folge Waxer und Boil, die das kleine Twi-lek Mädchen in “Innocents of Ryloth” gerettet haben und Luminara Unduli ihren Einstand in der zweiten Staffel. Letztere hat immer noch nicht den kleinsten Funken Humor, aber irgendwie mag ich sie trotzdem.

Schmunzeln musste ich über die Szene in der Obi-Wan und seine Truppen im Gunship stehen und sich an den Haltegriffen festklammern, während das Schiff heftig hin und her schaukelt. Erinnert mich ein bißchen an meine täglichen Fahrten mit der U-Bahn:

Schließlich sei noch die Szene erwähnt, in der Anakin und Ahsoka Captain Rex recht plötzlich und überraschend von der Festungsmauer bugsieren. Hier sieht man, dass die kleine Togruta schon recht gut auf den spontanen Irrsinn ihres Meisters eingestellt ist. So etwas wäre wohl mit Obi-Wan nicht möglich gewesen!

The computer animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars occurs in-between Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith of the live-action feature films, following the Jedi and Clone Troopers fighting in the war against the Separatists, throughout the galaxy. As in the prequel films, our main character is Anakin Skywalker, but the show also branches out beyond stories about Anakin or Obi-Wan Kenobi. Some episodes focus much more (or entirely) on other Jedi briefly glimpsed in the prequels, while others put the Clone Troopers center stage, giving us their perspective on life in the trenches.

The series got off to a rocky start – first with The Clone Wars movie, which should never have been put in theaters in the first place (it was originally intended to be the first few episodes of the series, and it felt like it), and then with the first couple of episodes. Right from the start, it was clear that the show had some very strong elements which were mirrored by some very weak elements – the latter most notably via the use of humor in the show. Comic relief and moments of levity are fine and welcome, but the comedy here was mostly provided by the Battle Droids, and it was incredibly frustrating and off-putting.

Jag har tidigare tyckt att duellen mellan Obi-Wan och Darth Vader i Episode IV sett lite småfånig ut. Detta särskilt om man jämför den med framförallt duellerna i I, II och III. Men igår kväll satt jag och tittade på striden på youtube, och jag kom fram till att den är riktigt bra! Kanske bättre än de andra eftersom den ter sig verkligare och mindre dansig av sig. Visst, den har sina fel, det är ju ändå film, men den är mycket bättre än jag fått för mig.

Recordemos que este juego será el MMORPG que reemplazará al ya antiguo Star Wars: Gallaxies, un increíble universo paralelo que hasta el día de hoy puedes seguir jugando junto a miles de otros participantes que aspiran unirse a las filas de los Jedi o los Sith.

Los acontecimientos de Star Wars: The Old Republic están basados en la historia desarrollada por la serie RPG Knights of the Old Republic, lo cual acontece varios siglos antes que lo que es mostrado en las películas de Star Wars.

Para variar, los Sith luchan con los Jedi, la república se hace “amiga” de los Sith, luego los Jedi se retiran con la cola entre las piernas…. y en eso estamos cuando comienza Star Wars: The Old Republic que, por lo demás, aún no aclaran si será finalmente un juego gratuito financiado con micro transacciones, lo cual sería francamente espectacular.

A cynical line. Funny, too. But I’m tired of cynicism. I’m tired of hearing the idea that nobody in government can be trusted, or that this or that party will ALWAYS act a certain way.

The doctrine of Creation: God made the world good; now it is in a state of fallen rebellion.

The world isn’t bad. It’s fallen. Yes you should be wary of politicians, but if we automatically assume they’re not to be trusted then we lose the will to think clearly and speak truthfully. Politics, like any other field of human endeavor, is broken. The cure isn’t cynicism; the cure is Truth.

That’s why I’m grateful to the Ann Lamotts of this world. She’s willing to hold people to their promises, without irony. Against her friends, no less. (Proverb: The wounds of a friend are to be trusted.)

That’s also why I can’t stand the rhetoric of those who constantly speak of the evils of government…typically with less regard for truth than for book sales.

I consider myself an anarcho-pacifist. This is not because of cynicism regarding government (well, sometimes…but not when I’m at my best). This is because I believe that the way we arrange ourselves socially should be less violent and more personalist. We should prefer the weak over the strong. We should be careful what kind of borders we erect between us and the ‘other’.

But while I may have a certain amount of distrust towards democratic liberalism, and a huge amount of distrust towards ‘free market’ ideology, that doesn’t release me from Jesus’ command to love my neighbor. As long as I live in a liberal democracy and participate in a free market economy, I have an obligation to speak the truth to power and to help my country live up to its better promises.

Nevertheless, there is an ever-flowing stream of bad-mouthing coming from certain political conservatives in the U.S. that reeks of a lack of willingness to embrace the other, an over-willingness to exclude through labeling, and a sincere hope that those who disagree with their ideology fail miserably.

Sure, compared to what I believe to be a robust Christian politics, Obama’s ‘Hope’ is thin gruel. In fact, optimism is NOT hope. Optimism, because it is not based on truth, leads to cynicism and despair just as much as anything.

By all means, let’s be people of truth instead of an empty hope. That requires that we hold our leaders accountable, friend or foe. But it also means that we always hope, always trust, always persevere.

I can’t find that sort of persistent hope outside of Christ. That’s why it’s important for me to have the qualifier Christian anarcho-pacifist. I’m convinced more than ever that he is the only hope for this broken world.

But because what often passes for Christianity in U.S.America is so truncated and idolatrous, I can’t afford to have illusions that this message will win the day anytime soon.

In the meantime, what does the church do?

She has to be faithful to the crucified rather than the empire.

Every time.
